Their cupcakes are sweet, but my experience here left a bitter taste in my mouth. The good news is Northwestern employees get 10% discount. The bad news is I didn't know till post-purchase. After they rung up my friend, I showed my ID and asked if I could get my discount too. The lady behind the counter gave me the biggest eye roll followed by a sigh: "do you have your receipt?" I had chosen the "no receipt" option to minimize transmission risks, so I started apologizing. Turns out she easily found my transaction in the system and applied the discount - all within 10 seconds. There were more staff than customers, so my request wasn't holding up anyone. I thought I was being overly sensitive till we left the store and, unprompted, my friend remarked "wow, that lady's attitude!" Must've been quite an attitude, considering we could see and hear her even behind the mask. UPDATE: their red velvet cupcake is alright, not as moist as Molly's or even Whole Food's. Their vegan chocolate cupcake is dry and very salty(?!) - did someone mistake salt for sugar in prepping the batter? I've definitely experienced better. read more

My love for sweet mandy b's is well documented. If there's a special event, birthdays, our wedding, etc., I come here. This location is closer to me than the original, and I think it opened right before the stay at home order was issued. I wanted to support them and Yelp's big night in (plus Easter) gave me the perfect reason. We got a yellow cake with chocolate icing and it was everything I expect from sweet mandy b's. Soft, but with nice consistency, and not overly sweet. I'm docking a star because the cake is smaller and slightly more expensive than the original. But I still look forward to coming in sometime soon. read more

We have been customers to swb for years and were happy to see a downtown location. I think this pandemic has really heightened my taste buds and eye site because this was the first visit I was underwhelmed by the treats and overwhelmed by the price. We got several cupcakes. Lemon and red velvet were good. Snickerdoodle was good. Vanilla was just that. The best one was the blueberry. They were good and simple treats but the prices????? We bought 8 cupcakes and I thought for a moment we should apply for a loan to afford them. 3.50 for a cupcake ??????? A little one at that. Placed an order for two cupcakes yesterday as we had a hankering for some sweets while we we're staying downtown. The site said it would be ready in about 30 minutes. So, after the 30 minute wait, I walk five blocks in a torrential downpour (I had an umbrella but still my shorts were soaked) only to discover a sign on the door saying closed Sunday, August 2! I was not impressed. A great bakery that does not take credit cards or cash. Give me a break. The nerve of you to turn away business of a bilateral amputee long-standing customer in a wheelchair in the rain. It must be nice to have a brand new boutique bakery shop full of pastries in the middle of a pandemic. It must be frightening that 60% of new restaurants fail in the first year. Sweet Mandy B's is simply the best bakery out there. Their buttercream is so addicting! Light, fluffy and just the right amount of sweetness. Although I think the Lincoln Park location is much cuter on the inside, I was over the moon when Sweet Mandy B's decided to open their second location a little closer to home in Streeterville. My go to items are always the chocolate cupcake with vanilla buttercream, the Cookie Monster cupcake, and the frosted sugar cookies. The Cookie Monster cupcake has a chocolate chip cookie baked into the bottom. So delicious! I've honestly never had anything here that I didn't absolutely love though. You will not be disappointed! Last year I bought my birthday cake here for the first time and now I refuse to buy a cake any where else. They're THAT good! read more

This is hands-down the best cupcake in all of Chicago! Most people enjoy just the frosting and the top of a cupcake, but the better here is so delicious that the entire cupcake is worth every penny. If you're picky about your flavors they have a wide selection of batters and frostings to match your tastebuds. And if you don't have a sweet tooth, a friend or family member certainly will! Their cupcakes and sweets make for excellent gifts and they have candles and accessories available in store. read more

We used Sweet Mandy B's for our wedding dessert (cupcakes for guests, small cutting cake for us)! We did a complimentary take-home tasting (6 cupcakes) which was an awesome touch to the entire experience. Jamal was so helpful and patient as we decided on cupcake cake/icing flavors and helped me adjust my order as we got RSVPs and dietary restrictions from guests. The pick-up was also seamless on the day of the wedding. We highly recommend SMB for dessert for events, and also just in general when you have a craving for sweets :D read more

I love this place so much. It is right by my work. I stop by regularly to buy cookies and cupcakes for my staff. The staff are all super professional and friendly. The places is spotless and clearly a machine. All pastries I have had there from cookies to cakes to cup cakes are all fantastic especially the confetti cupcakes. My only complaint is they don't open before 9 am so I can't get my morning coffee there! read more

We came across this dessert shop by chance and the smell once you walk in is delicious! The set up of the store is cute and the proper measures have been taken for Covid. They offer a wide variety of desserts, from cupcakes to cookies, pies, puddings, bars and more. Good luck restricting yourself from selecting one of each. We picked 4 cupcakes; Lemon, Chocolate with Peanut Butter, Red Velvet and Confetti. I made sure to have at least one bite from each and they all tasted very good, but confetti/birthday cake is one of my favorite flavors in general and didn't disappoint at all. Lemon was also surprisingly yummy and very refreshing! We also picked the oreo cheesecake, pecan pie and the bread pudding. They tasted good, but the pecan pie, a usual favorite for me, was average. They were also handing out samples of the confetti rice krispie bars which was super cute! All in all, would very much recommend this bakery & will most likely visit them again. read more

What the hell happened to this business? I usually go to the Lincoln Park location and haven't had any issues, but because of the pandemic I went to the Streeterville location to pickup a cake. It was super dry and tasted like it was sitting in a freezer for weeks and then recently thawed when I picked it up. For $36 I expect something at least palatable but what I received was frosting covered sand. I appreciate the bakery being open during these trying times and seriously people are going through hell and back with this pandemic, but don't take advantage by cutting corners and serving subpar cake. Get back to keeping the quality up! read more

They package it very well and they also serve you a cute little fork set and a knife for cutting which I think is contributes to the price. The shop itself is very cute with chic décor and a lot of Asian-inspired artwork, which adds to the overall vibe. Customer service was friendly. The treats from this bakery were recently a huge hit with a group of teens with whom I work. We were able to serve a large order of cupcakes, cookies, and bars. They were gobbled up within minutes, with lots of kids describing what a special treat it was to have SMBs. The baked goods looked as delicious as they tasted and I ended up feeling like a hero since the teenagers were so delighted with the snack. I would highly recommend this bakery, whether it is for a special treat for yourself or to put a smile on the face of a loved one. read more

This is my FAVORITE bakery in Chicago. Even though I live in the suburbs, I will drive downtown (more than I should) to go pick up desserts for my family. Every single thing on the menu is amazing. Some of my favorites are the iced sugar cookies, every cupcake flavor, regular Rice Krispie treat, and the chocolate peanut butter Rice Krispie treat. The Dubai Chocolate (6/10) was my favorite of the four. I liked the crispy kataifi in the center, the pistachios throughout, and the chocolate chunks mixed into the cookie. The shop itself is pretty much grab-and-go with no seating. Service was quick, but nothing really stood out.

I was an absolute mess dropping phones, my calendar, my mouse... just looking completely flabbergasted! My AirPods weren't working and my WiFi had disconnected... so she came over and asked if she could help. She was AMAZING, even offering to turn down the music so I could just use my laptop speakers. I literally live an hour away without traffic and even longer with traffic, but I make sure to stop by or send someone else to get it for me at least once a month or more. I love the amazing cakes that are so delicious and unique but on top of that, it is Asian owned, LGBTQ supporting, etc. A lot has changed since their little storefront with no seating. The bakery is now a full on cafe and I'm so happy to see how much they've grown and how successful they are. And while it is glorious, I will say I miss the sweet neighborhood charm and great customer service it used to have. Getting in touch with the bakery through phone or text can be tough and to be honest, sometimes one of the people working there is kind of...very mean. It had me questioning if I should keep coming back. I just love this bakery so much though and being raised by parents that had a small food business, I can't help but want to support. I had a particularly difficult last minute request for the bakery a few weeks ago and I was reminded why this place is so great. It had been YEARS since I made this specific request, which was an order for a slice of cake for every flavor and a cupcake for every flavor. This is a BIG and time consuming request, especially if it's last minute. Unfortunately I come to the city whenever the traffic isn't atrocious, so it's always last minute. Dom absolutely pulled through though. Even though there were other employees there (I saw two others but one disappeared and then another male was kind of walking around the cafe and such), Dom took this giant request and fulfilled it himself. The other gentleman (not the mean person previously mentioned) was actually who I made the request to, but he told Dom to do it. I was kind of confused why they didn't do it together but idk, maybe the other guy isn't allowed to handle food? Who knows. Regardless, this request obviously took a long time and the line was getting longer; people were getting a little restless but Dom stayed calm but was swift. I swear he was moving faster than most people in the industry could with a cake knife like that. He was not impatient or rude to me at all. He was just there to do his job as fast and well as possible. It's so rare to see that type of work ethic. He is also so obviously proud of the bakery and the food they serve which makes you feel good about being a patron there. So although I continue to have an unpleasant experience with one particular employee there, Dom keeps my love for this bakery alive. He reminds me of what this bakery was like when they first opened their doors. I hope Dom is cherished there and I bet he is considering his work ethic. I will continue to support this bakery and I recommend everyone else to support as well. It may not be that small little shop anymore but Dom is a reminder of the heart of the place.
