I'm a big fan of sweetgreen and walked to this location for lunch. I came during the lunch rush, but a lot of people had pickup orders that were ready on the other side of the restaurant. I ordered my usual and all-time favorite- the harvest bowl. It never lets me down and the ingredients in this bowl are top tier, order it trust me. I was helped by a kind man that gave me a generous portion than what I was used to. I was pleasantly surprised that my bowl of salad was basically filled to the top and happily finished it all. Some people wonder how Sweetgreen got its name: When they were getting ready to open their first store they sat down to price their salads.  They looked around and saw that everyone in LA was charging over $10 for a salad and decided to do the same. The Salad only costs $2 to make so after the first week when they saw the profits and dollars rolling in, one owner shouted out: "Sweet GREEN!, Sweet GREEN!" And the name was born. Now I got the Hollywood Salad Bowl and it was great. Make sure to sub the Blackened chicken.  They have a regular chicken but it looks so white and pale I could loose my appetite.  Wish they would just remove that pale chicken from the store or send it to the tanning salon. When people in my office asked what it was, I said Hollywood Bowl: chicken, brown rice, kale, goat cheese, grapes, and dressing. Side of bread included. When people in my office asked how I was able to get a Hollywood Bowl when we are not in Hollywood?  I told them that when you pay $15 for a salad with tax, you can bring a bit of Hollywood to you. I've tried their seasonal bowls and loved them. In fact, sweetgreen is a norm for lunch now. The customer service is on point online and in store. I've had questions and everything gets answered and resolved. Favorites have been the shroomami and elote bowl (please bring back!). I haven't gone through the entire menu (yet) but I see that happening soon. Ahhh after over a year without sweetgreen I was so happy to finally be eating here again. I don't have a sweetgreen where I live so when I saw there was a location a short walk from my hotel, I was in. I ordered a modified chicken pesto parm and added the spicy cauliflower on the app. Pickup was smooth and everything was so fresh. The only thing is that sweetgreen discontinued their rewards program because of the pandemic, but you can't fault them for that. read more

Sooo..that old standby Thai restaurant across from the Central Library is now, well, a closed chapter on 5th Street. Sad to not find it, however, it gave me a chance to finally try 'sweetgreen.' That's their emphasis on the lower case. I'm not sure I understand why the lowercase, although I will say I enjoyed their low-key variety of healthful and savory foods. In short, I had a really good lunch here - though I did get it 'To-Go.' I'd walked into other 'sweetgreen's before just having happened by at an inopportune time to stop and eat for me. But, being curious, there are times that I'll take popping into a place, doing reconnaissance work. The menu can be a bit dizzying. I went with The Curry Cauliflower. (Roasted chicken, curry roasted cauliflower, shredded cabbage, cilantro, raisins, warm quinoa, organic arugula, sweetgreen hot sauce, cucumber tahini yogurt dressing). I asked for the hot sauce and the dressing on the side. Really, I'm much more interested in things without dressing, in order to taste what's actually inside the meal. I found it comforting, at times very flavorful, and, sure, at times a bit bland. Enter the hot sauce - which I salute. A strong but honest heat that goosed the flavors to the point of making me very happy. I'd definitely try it again. So I LOVE Sweetgreen. It's a go-to salad spot for me and I try to convert as many people as possible. But unfortunately my Harvest Bowl from Monday was a let down. The rice was not properly cooked and still dry, the sweet potatoes were a bit burnt, and the dish as a whole just wasn't what I'm used to getting from here. I had done a group order with my coworkers and they were all disappointed as well. The two people with the Pesto Protein Bowl were not happy campers and one of my coworkers was trying Sweetgreen for the first time and not excited about going back. Maybe they were having an off day. Oh sweetgreen, you are so so tasty, but so inconvenient. I've been to this location sparingly about three times since it opened and regret to say, it's probably the last. My hour lunch break is too precious to wait in line, and trying to order ahead does no good, either. I ordered at 12:45pm online with an ETA of 1:10. By the time I arrived at 1:10, the small establishment was full of confused customers, standing, scattered all about in a hot mess. Directions say salads will be waiting on the pickup counter and more people were waiting than bowls ready. The system is broken and disorganized. The poor Staffer that has to deal with the mob of hungry patrons kept his cool. By the time I got a chance to talk to him after checking the food on the shelves, it was 1:20. He checked with the kitchen behind him and my order came in, but no food so he started assembling it himself. Receiving my order by 1:25 plus the walk time back to my office kitchen didn't leave me enough time to enjoy my lunch and had to work, eating it at my desk. Would I come back? After reading the other reviews, I was iffy if I wanted to come here. Some said that it was really expensive and others said that their portions are small. If you come here during lunch, the line is pretty long. I got here at noon and waited about 15 minutes. You can see the staff making your salad in front of you and their ingredients look fresh. I thought that their process is inefficient since the person making your salad is ringing you up as well. The line would probably move faster if you have one person at each section, just like Chipotle. All their salads sounds tempting but I ended up ordering the Shroomami. It is one of their warm bowls that consists of shredded kale, wild rice, beets, marinated tofu, mushrooms and other veggies tossed with a miso sesame ginger dressing. The salad has a lot of volume so I do not know why the other reviews are complaining about the portion size. I can easily eat half and feel super full and save the other half for later. The price is decent for a lunch spot in Downtown. My salad came out to be about $12. I look forward to my next visit and cannot wait to try the other items on their menu. read more
