I love that CPK has online group ordering, which makes it super easy for offices to order. Our order was ready at the designated pick up time, but they were missing a few items. I was really craving a salad and decided to try the new steakhouse salad. The salad itself was really good, but the steak was inedible. It was hard as a rock. On my way to Romania, I had a relatively long layover at LAX so I was looking for somewhere to grab a bite to eat. Most airport dining is notoriously mediocre and overpriced, so I didn't have high hopes. I ended up deciding to dine in at California Pizza Kitchen (CPK). You may know them for their frozen pizza you can buy at grocery stores. They also invented the BBQ chicken pizza, so that's a significant feat in itself. Service (1.5/5): This is where things really falter. The hostess brought me to a booth. Rather than menus, you scan a QR code and place your order through your phone. That means service is pretty much non-existent. They bring you your food and you take care of your bill on your phone. I appreciate efficiency, especially when I'm at an airport and my time may be limited. Here's the issue: 20% minimum. Why am I required to give a 20% tip when there was no service? That was a first for me, and made me feel like I was being bamboozled. Ambiance (3/5): Pretty much your typical airport restaurant. Comfortable and large enough, you have room for your bags. There was an outlet under my seat, which I appreciated because I got some work done as I ate. Drinks (N/A): No alcoholic beverages for me this time around, I just had a lemonade. Food (3.5/5): I went with their famous BBQ chicken pizza which comes with you guessed it, cubes of chicken, cheese, onions, and drizzles of BBQ sauce. It's a solid pizza. CPK's crust is a little weird, but it was still good and filling. Nowhere near the top of my power rankings when it comes to pizza joints, but for airport food, solid. A pizza, soft drink, and the required tip put me at $40. $40 for a pizza?! I know it's California and the airport, but that is highway robbery. Pro tip: order your food to-go and eat it elsewhere so you can avoid the required 20% tip. read more

The chopped BBQ chicken salad was tasty & fresh. I had enough points on my account for a free dessert however I was only allowed to choose from 2 options. I chose the churro sundae but regret it. It came with a scoop of ice cream but the churro was hard. They didn't think to warm it up or toast it a little bit. Service was a bit slow considering the restaurant was 2/3rds empty. The last time I visited a California Pizza Kitchen was probably 25 years ago in Farmington, CT and I absolutely hated it, swearing to never return (I was literally a child). Well, all these years later I find myself living super close to this location and figuring it was worth returning and giving this franchise a chance. My wife and I came here on what I believe was a Sunday night when the place wasn't too busy. We came around 6PM and got seated right away. The restaurant itself isn't too exciting to look at, pretty plain and offering a good amount of seating options. The menu here is mostly what you would expect from this kind of pizza place, which is exactly what we were looking for when we came here. We ended up starting the meal with an order of Dynamite Shrimp which ended up being way better than they had any right being. The sauce here was really tasty and the shrimp themselves were very good. For pizza, I settled on ordering The Works which consists of Spicy Italian sausage, rustic pepperoni, Cremini mushrooms, Mozzarella, red onions, green peppers, olives, and wild Greek oregano. Look, I knew I wasn't going to hate it as much as I did as a kid since I'm an adult now who likes more then chicken nuggets, but I really didn't expect to like this pizza as much as I did, so much so, that I finished it off in one sitting and barely left crust crumbs on the plate. The pizza tasted great, and I take back every single bad thing I've ever said about this place. Overall, the California Pizza Kitchen gets a thumbs up from me. The food here was really good, the service was great, and outside of the boring aesthetic of the restaurant itself, I very much enjoyed myself. I upgraded my soup to a "bowl" rather than a "cup" for $2.50 more, making my lunch $16.50, $20 after tax and tip. My usual use their soup and salad lunch combo, which is under $11 with no tip. I regret getting upgrading the soup because comparing it to my co-workers cup, it's the same exact size just different packaging. The service in the Togo section of the restaurant is always attentive. Anything you need they comply! So, while I'm familiar with California Pizza Kitchen as a chain, I had never visited CPK's location on 7th and Fig until last week. At my server's recommendation, I took advantage of their lunch hour special, the Lunch Duo: for $15, you choose a main (choices are a 7-inch pizza, a half-sized sandwich, and a lunch-sized pasta) and a soup or salad. I believe you can also elect a soup and salad as the lunch duo. I chose the spicy chipotle pizza and the Sedona tortilla soup. The pizza was spicier than anticipated (all those peppers! Hehe). I also ordered the peach lemonade (bless those refills) and the Belgian chocolate soufflé cake. My meal was delicious, and quite reasonably priced. More than anything, though - I really appreciated my server. She was busy the entire time I was there, and yet I never felt like she wasn't checking in or looking out for me. Excellent service. Came on a Saturday afternoon for lunch. Overall it was pretty average. Pizza is decent, I liked the supreme and bbq chicken. The Mexican corn starter was a bit disappointing, felt like the flavors weren't all there. My friend and I were famished after spending the day at the beach. We were staying in town for Kcon and just wanted a quick pizza pick-me-up. We noticed a CPK location close to us and decided to order Uber Eats. We ordered two pizzas, California Veggie for me, and a cheese pizza and side caesar salad for my friend. We weren't expecting to get a side of half a slice of bread and olive oil on the side. Maybe that was only because we ordered a salad along with our pizza, but it was a nice surprise nonetheless. We both enjoyed our pizzas. I appreciated the amount of toppings and how nicely seasoned each veggie was. The downsides were the soggy, paper-thin, flavorless crust underneath and the size of the broccolini. Gigantic pieces that wasn't possible to eat WITH a bite of pizza. I had to pick each piece off and eat it separately. Also not much cheese and even less sauce I feel like. I just don't understand how these "high-end" pizza places cook their pizza with the thinnest crust and also don't season the outer crust so you're crunching into a hard piece of plain crust. We decided to have a last-minute birthday brunch at CPK after missing our earlier reservation, and we were so glad we did. From the moment we walked in, we felt right at home. Our waitress, Mayra, was incredibly kind and welcoming, which made choosing this location an easy decision. The warmth didn't stop there--every employee we interacted with was just as friendly and accommodating. At one point, I needed to pay for more time on my car and wasn't sure how to get change. Beatrice went out of her way to try to get me a dollar in change, while Mayra even offered coins from her own wallet! She also mentioned they validate parking at the mall, which was a nice added bonus. So we did that instead. The staff here made us feel like family, calling us "honey" and "sweetie," which added such a warm, caring vibe to the experience. The food was fantastic--everything came out hot and perfect. We were so eager to eat, we forgot to take photos! Although we didn't finish it all (we have other plans later), we'll definitely be coming back. I ordered food ahead of time on the app, but it wasn't very user friendly. I had some rewards I wanted to apply, but I wasn't readily able to do so because the site kept saying it was invalid (but the reward hasn't expired yet) so I had to try different methods to get the reward to be applied to my order which. It also didn't help that the mobile version of the app wasn't loading properly, so I had to use my computer. It took me around 30 minutes to figure out the site and place my order. I would suggest making it more user friendly and clear how we can apply the rewards to our order. When I went to pickup the food at this location, it was confusing where the pickup window was. I followed the signs but it led me upstairs where it wasn't at. It turned out the takeout window was around the stairs. It would be nice to make that clear in the sign where it's located. As for the food, it was okay. The Mac n cheese though was pretty disappointing. It tasted just bland pasta with a thin coating of cheese sauce which was also not very flavorful. Robbery! Your quality of food is terrible. Cubes of chicken maybe get three pieces for a pizza a drizzle of sauce. I chipped teeth not tooth teeth on their crust. What in the world size portion for appetizer. 2 Small almond sliver sized super thin pieces of stale bread and a fit full of corn. The size of pasta servings is enough for a toddler one pizza one pasta and a "free" app 67 dollars! We had to go to another place to eat and get full. I hope cpk isn't around much longer. Its probably the only 2 items I care for. Today I decided to try their lunch duos. I got the grilled chicken sandwich with a BBQ chicken salad. I decided to pay extra for a full sandwich. And I gotta say, that was the best meal I've had at CPK. I truly enjoyed everything. We also ordered the nachos with spinach artichoke dip as appetizer and I can say it also hit the spot. The California Focaccia they brought out with vinaigrette was freshly made, warm and soft like no other. The vinaigrette was also very tasteful. Unlike prior times that I've tried it and it's just oil with no flavor. My sandwich was delicious and satisfying. Not dry at all, very fulfilling and so was the BBQ chicken salad. The salad was fresh and nicely made. The service and our server was great and the ambiance inside was relaxing and enjoyable. Looks like the employees there all work very hard, I noticed a great/big majority of them are hispanic. Kuddos to all for being so hard working. They validate parking tickets and even the security guard was helpful with that as i forgot to validate mine on my way out and parking was gonna come out to $28 bucks. This CPK is located in such a cute plaza in downtown LA on 7th street! We were in the area and decided to have dinner here. It wasn't busy either as we went on a Thursday. We were just in time before happy hour ended (3-5pm weekdays) so we were able to put in our drinks and appetizers and they were all 1/2 off! They also validate parking which was a plus. The spicy buffalo cauliflower and the Szechwan chicken dumplings were super gooood! I could honestly just eat a bunch of their starters for my meal. For drinks, I got the California Colada and the Sangria flight and both were refreshing! I love wine and pina coladas so it did not disappoint! I love their chicken piccata but since I've been trying to eat healthier, I substituted the pasta for broccoli and it was just as good and glad they were able to modify it. I would give 10 stars if I could give to this location. I was ordering my kids lunch and for the teachers from here for the first time and was having a trouble getting through the order. The store managers, Louis&other general manager went above and beyond to help me to deliver the foods to my kids with such a short notices of time.Louis even answered the phone call before their opening time and waited patiently on the phone while I was handling the credit card issues.Managers made sure the food was getting delivered on time to my kids and it did!!!Great customer service and accommodation for the customer. I stumbled across this place while walking around my hotel. I sat at the bar and ordered a Moscow Mule. After checking out the menu, since it's been years since the last visit, I settled on a Sicilian. Sitting at the bar allowed me to check out the work being done in the kitchen as I enjoyed my drink. Since I was in a hurry and thee was a 20 minute wait for a table, I opted to be seated outside. BIG mistake. It took forever to be waited on. The server did provide bread and my drink while I waited--the only good thing about the entire meal. It took forever for the food to arrive. I wanted to ask for a box and my check when th food was brought since, as I mentioned, I was in a hurry. But the guy who brought the food slapped it down on the table and rushed off before I could make the request. As for the food--it had probably been sitting on the counter waiting to be picked up because it was cold b the time it was served. Overall, not a bad location. CPK is what it is and what I remember growing up. Sure, my favorite salad is gone (rest in food heaven, beloved salad!!) but lots of goodies can be found. Their wine list and cocktails are well chosen and I can't wait to get another California colada when it's warm again- it was the best of a pina colada without being too heavy. Perfection! And after that I flipped through the menu but everything seemed so heavy portioned. That is, until I found the back page. You choose half of this, half of that- and basically create your own combo. That said, my half sandwich and half salad was too much food after the spinach artichoke dip, which, let's be honest, who hasn't had THAT!? Our server, Nick, was a kind transplant from San Diego.
