They have a terrific Cobb salad here. They took it off the menu, but you can still ask for it. I love that so much of their produce is organic. And I also love that when I order in store, the only packaging I leave with is the compostable bowl and the "compostable" container for the salad dressing. The compostable bowl is a perfect container for collecting compostables on my kitchen counter, so I don't need to waste a compostable bag. (The "compostable" salad dressing container is made from plants, but it's not compostable in the Mountain View composting program.) read more

Attached is a picture of my $12.95 before taxes salad from sweet green. I am going to have to get something more to eat after this given the poor quantity provided. Not worth your money! I will also add that I have been a customer of Sweetgreen since before it came to California. It was always on the pricey side but I didn't mind paying for it because the quality AND quantity of the food was so good - I could eat it for 1.5 meals. My husband and I used to eat salads here quite frequently. Tonight (6:30pm), our experience at Sweetgreen was so poor that we both agreed that we wouldn't come back ever again. This food place has unfair business practices for the customer. My husband and I both ordered Kale Caesar Salad. The menu shows Lime Juice as an ingredient. They ran out of limes, so without telling us, the worker grabbed lemons and squeezed them all over our salads. Also, the salad previously came with a slice of sourdough bread. This evening, they didn't offer the bread to us, because they said that many morning customers took two slices instead one, and they ran out. There was no discount of price for the missing lime or the missing bread. (We paid the some $12 price as the customers who got bread...except we didn't get bread.) The workers didn't even say sorry. I gave feedback to the Manager Julio. He was defensive and didn't care to resolve the issue. In total, we paid $24 for two [very lemony] salads that were a huge disappointment. This place left us with a yucky feeling -- they throw together salads with whatever they've got in hand. The bread supply is a big question mark, not part of the meal. Some people get it, some don't, pricing model is mixed up. It's expensive for a sub-par salad meal. We don't respect the business practices here, so we won't be coming back. This was one of my worst experience among all Sweetgreen stores. At first I felt I was overcharged so I used App to calculate the price. Then I showed the manager exactly same things on App but with lower price. After we scrubbed everything again, it's clear that App showed a lower price. Then the manager said that App and store charge different rates. I think it's a totally ridiculous excuse but I didn't want to waste more time arguing. You can imagine my feeling at the moment. I really like sweetgreen and have been going to the one in Palo Alto regularly since they opened, but this particular outlet is just A-OK. The people who work there are nice, but the service is quite slow. Despite having 4-5 people running the store behind the counter, at any given point, only one person takes orders (don't know about weekday lunch times since I usually just get dinner here). When I try to flag down someone else to help me out, they often ask that I wait even if they're not particularly busy. The salad itself is great. Fresh ingredients, seasonal menus, and the whole shebang that you'll come to expect from the chain. I'd be happy to increase my rating if their service was a bit faster. read more

I hate to leave a two-star review for an eatery that I really want to like, but I'm trying to get the attention of other customers and hopefully staff and/or management, too. The customer service here is NOT GOOD. The servers in the salad line always seem to be poorly trained, rushed, and inattentive to what the customer wants. Some of them are unpleasant, too (though some of them are nice). Two recent examples: (1) I ordered the roasted cauliflower salad bowl. The server forgot to put in the cauliflower (I was watching her every move, since Sweetgreen was quiet and I had nothing else to do). "Excuse me," I said, "I think you forgot the cauliflower." "No I didn't," she replied. "Are you sure?" I asked "Could you please show me a piece of cauliflower in my bowl?" Annoyed, she dug around with her tongs. Not finding any, she signed and tossed a few small pieces of cauliflower on top, then moved my bowl toward checkout. "I'm sorry to complain," I said, "but since cauliflower is supposed to be the main ingredient here, I was hoping I could have a full scoop of it." She complied, but didn't make eye contact, say sorry, or anything. Wow, I've never had to put up such a fight for a cauliflower bowl that contains cauliflower... (2) I ordered the curried chickpea bowl with tofu instead of chicken. The ingredient list said it included baby spinach and shredded cabbage, which I assumed were in roughly equal proportions. When the server started out by packing my bowl completely full with baby spinach, I asked, "Would you mind putting in a little less spinach and a little more cabbage?" He looked at me like I had two heads. "The greens listed for this bowl are spinach and cabbage," I said. "I was just hoping to have them more like half and half." He stared at me, blinked, said some words to his colleague that I couldn't hear, and then passed my bowl to his colleague. OK, well... So I repeated my request to the other server, who finally took out a pinch of spinach and replaced it with cabbage. But then at the end of the line, he heaped CHICKEN on my salad (I am vegetarian). "Oh no!" I said. "I asked for tofu instead of chicken." So he picked the chicken out - most of it, anyway - and threw it in the TRASH. I hate to waste food, so this made me really disappointed. Maybe he couldn't reuse the chicken because it might have come into contact with an allergen in my salad, but then why didn't he ask me if I was OK with shreds of chicken clinging to my vegetarian salad? Argh! - - - - - - I think part of the problem must be that there's a lot of staff turnover here. I've never gotten the same server twice (after eating here probably 6-8 times), and even when I order one of the standard bowls, my server always has to glance up at the menu to see what's on it, as though they've never heard of it before.... Anyway, you're more likely to have a good experience here if you order something exactly off the menu and if you don't particularly care about the exact proportions or ingredients. Custom preparation is really not their forte. If you definitely want a particular substitution or change, be prepared to watch your server like a hawk every single step of the way. Other than that, I like the food here (they're a little heavy on the greens and skimp on the other ingredients, but the dressings are always good). And it's nice to have a quick, healthy salad option for lunch. But I've gotten so frustrated by the customer service that I will think twice before coming here again. read more

Today I picked up my to-go salad and it had a piece of plastic wrap in it, so I'm not sure I'll be eating here much in the future. It was a large piece and appeared to be part of a plastic bag that the lettuce was packaged in. Wait time: This place gets really crowded during lunch (about 25-30 minute wait), so I started ordering my salads ahead and picking them up. They are almost never ready on time, so I started going about 10 minutes later than the time it says it will be ready and so far, so good. Online ordering: I always order my salad with the dressing and lime juice mixed in. However, every time I pick up my salad, the dressing and lime juice are always separate and I have to mix them in myself. Only one time they were mixed in, and once there was no dressing at all. The salads I've had here taste good, but I'm not sure I'll be coming back much since they are inconsistent. read more

Sweet, crunchy, savory, soft, crispy, refreshing. They are also generous enough to get you full. The restaurant is fast casual, so you can be in and out. Staff can be pretty flexible with additions and subtractions, too. Con: Very limited options, but! The ones that are there are really good, and you have the option of crafting your own salad. When I questioned the discrepancy, the manager very sternly told me she informed her employee to stop serving Kale, but changed her mind. Huh?! I like being able to be healthy when pushed. This place makes it easy for me to accomplish that (: 1. Kale Caesar - ALL HAIL THE CAESAR! It's fantastic! Lots of chicken and the shaved parm is what makes it great. 2. Curry Chickpea Chicken - Filled with roasted chicken, chickpeas, carrots, cabbage, raisins, cilantro, toasted almonds, quinoa, spinach and curry yogurt dressing. Dude, so epic. I had half and then an hour later while starving.. inhaled the other half. If all salads were this good, I'd be on a salad diet. 3. Harvest Bowl - Kale, apples, sweet potatoes, roasted chicken, goat cheese, toasted almonds and vinaigrette. This one used to be my main squeeze before I was hailing Caesar. Salads are not my meal of choice. They have to be pretty unique and/or spectacular for me to order one. Luckily, I learned about sweetgreen from a Yelp event a few years ago, and I fell in love with the bowls! If anyone is making salads and healthy food right, it's sweetgreen. I've been back a few times as more locations have opened up around the Bay Area. The company really stands behind organic, locally-sourced ingredients, so they have a lovely seasonal menu. But I wrote this review to say: hands down, the ginger miso dressing is THE BEST salad dressing I have had. Unfortunately, it comes with a hefty price tag. Kale yeah! Thoughtful menu. Thoughtfully curated ingredients. Tasty eats. Feel free to swap out ingredients. Personally, I'm not a fan of raw beets. I love the variety of salads and bowls, but if you don't like what they've made up, feel free to modify to your liking (pay for extras or premium ingredients) or build your own bowl. I really like that they are clear on the pricing for the premium items when you build your own bowl, because I can see some sticker shock possible. A friend of mine built his bowl into the nearly $20 range. It starts out reasonable with base (salad/grain) + 4 non-extra cost ingredients + dressing. I don't agree on some of the items being premium, such as shredded Brussels sprouts +$1 or curried cauliflower +$1, especially when they barely fill the scoop to the rim at this location, but they do offer yummy premiums like steelhead trout, chicken, avocado, falafel. I love the idea of made to order healthy food, but this location leaves me craving slightly more food. LOL. They just need a few thoughtfully curated craft beers on tap. (Not just IPAs, please) We're downtown, after all! read more

This review is based on several visits over recent months. The food quality is good--the ingredients are fresh and they have a good approach to menu and building your salad. Two problems with the Castro St. sweetgreen: 1. The staff takes an unreasonably long time to clean up the tables. There just doesn't seem to be any urgency. Several empty tables had dirty plates and nobody attending to them. 2. On today's visit, my salad choice had blue cheese. Halfway through I found it. It was comprised of one massive ball of blue cheese, not mixed together. Same with the big ball of rice. This was confusing, since the man in the middle mixing station took enough time to have distributed everything evenly. Came here twice. Once for lunch and a second time for a to go order. The first time I went, the staff was very helpful and efficient. The second time, my server didn't know how to build the salad and kept asking me what ingredients to put in it. I wasn't even building my own! Other than service, the salads here are amazing. So hearty, beautiful, and full. I appreciate establishments like this who gears towards sustainable, healthy, and green lifestyles. They don't even accept cash because it calls for a large carbon footprint! So be sure to carry your credit card. My favorites are the harvest bowl and tahini greek salad. Fresh ingredients that you can see them washing and chopping right through a big window. Maybe they're just in the middle of training new staff members, but hopefully it gets better! read more

We ordered from this place for the first time down here in the Peninsula. We received quite possibly a couple of the saddest salads Ever. Made with no love, no heart and very skimpy. Even the chips were stale and the quinoa was cold and barely a quarter of a cup for each order. It was mainly just a bunch of dry lettuce with cold quinoa. Never ordering from this place again. Awesome salad place in a less busy part of Castro. I've been here a couple of times and have tried a different salad each time, and none of them have disappointed me so far. They're all really delicious and surprisingly filling. My favorite is the Harvest Bowl, but their seasonal specials are also great! I appreciate their idea of serving healthy salads but the service is SO SLOW & BAD. I have seen atleast 5 people leaving, instead of waiting in the huge line during lunch. At one point I have to remind them that we were waiting. Also they serve everything in your salad hastily and carelessly. Instead of one waiter taking care of one customer, I don't understand why they can't work together(like chipotle, subway) in creating salads quickly. All the items other than greens (falafel, tofu, chicken etc...) are of poor quality. P.S. I was skeptical visiting Sweetgreen, thinking it might be a floofy expensive salad place, but I cannot deny that I absolutely loved my shroomami salad! It is a bit floofy in the way they list all the sources of their ingredients, etc. and that they don't accept cash, but the price tag of $10-ish per salad isn't unreasonable when you consider that the portions are huge (I finished my salad in two sittings over two hours). Actually, I've been there twice already before I've had a chance to sit down and write a review. The shroomami salad was outstanding, possibly because I'm a sucker for wild rice, and the sauteed portobello mushrooms really did impart a strong savory umami flavor. The shroomami salad is also a warm bowl, and somehow warm meals are always more satisfying to me. The second time I went I actually deliberated opted for something not quite as filling, and chose the spicy sabzi. It really does have a kick, as they drizzle on hot sauce in addition to the vinaigrette. I liked the spicy broccoli in it. At the end of the salad assembly line, they will always ask how much dressing you want--light, medium, or heavy (the medium seems to be good for me)--and if you want a piece of nice hearty sourdough bread to round out the meal (always yes). I tend to stray away from paying for salads as I'm convinced I can easily recreate them myself but sweetgreen is admittedly delicious. I got a seasonal salad which was really delicious and filling. I would suggest ordering online and then picking it up because when I went during lunch, I waited in line for almost 30 minutes. They have some workers that do their job really well and there were some that worked at a snail pace which might have been the cause of the slow service. I was excited to find one near me and have the bay feel a little more like home so I went for a classic guac greens which is their OG salad. Usually great salads and worth the wait, but not today. I clearly had angered the salad chef when I politely asked for more lettuce (she'd given me a scant portion) because she then glared at me and deliberately gave me partial scoops of everything else that was supposed to go on my salad. When she gave me 2/3 of a scoop of chicken, I asked for a full scoop, at which point she said she'd charge me for it. The guy that mixed the salad was great; but then the credit system couldn't charge my salad and my friend's to the Sweetgreen app. To wait 35 minutes for 3/4 of a salad, get vindictive food and glares from the person behind the counter, and then not use my account? It was so disappointing, and even embarrassing, because I was taking a friend to lunch. OVERPRICED! Ingredients are fresh, yes... Nevertheless, they need to put more vegetables and protein and less leafy greens! A bit stingy when it comes to veggies/ protein. Beware of building your own salad! Unlike any other restaurant who are courteous enough to mention the price when you add anything additional to your dish [ like guacamole at chipotle ;) ] Sweetgreens fail to mention this to you. Price for building your own salad was not written anywhere on the menu nor was the price for each additional item added. It's well hidden. They never bothered mentioning the price for every additional veggie/ protein you add and so my salad came out to be over $20!! Their other pre-made salads are overpriced in my opinion. True, they are delicious as well as their sauces but does not justify the high prices for the amount of protein/ vegetables you get and for a salad! If they up the amount of veggies/ protein and decrease the leafy greens I would have given them 4 starts. Might try again. read more

I order from sweetgreen semi-regularly so yesterday was a big upset for me. I had a long day at work and wanted to skip a grocery trip so I ordered my typical, shroomami with no tofu and lentils added. The app informed me that they were out of kale, the main ingredient for shroomami. The app did not let me choose a substitute like spinach, Romain lettuce, or arugula so I had thought either the price won't be the same or they'll make the substitution themselves. The price was the same for both shroomamis so I had thought they would replace the kale but when I got home and looked inside both were bare. The only leafy green inside were some basil leaves and then there was a boat load of sesame seeds and beets and regular portions of everything else. Furious that I was charged the same price I issued a report about the order on their Sweetgreen app along with pictures and got a notification that I will be contacted soon about the order. I was never contacted and will no longer go to Sweetgreen until this is remedied. read more
