The food, as always, at Sweetgreen is delicious but the low rating is solely on the poor attitude and service I received by the individual I was unfortunate enough to have taken my order. When I communicated what I would like, the individual mimicked as response as if she were about to throw up and then asked if I had ever tried that, adding that "sounded pretty gross". Welcome to the neighborhood, Sweetgreen! I've not tried the salads yet, for the simple reason that I'm too obsessed with the frozen yogurt to be distracted. On a hot DC day, there is simply nothing better than the tangy coolness of the frozen yogurt accompanied by the sweetness of a heaping pile of fresh (!) berries. I also appreciate their compost-able utensils and the overall airiness of the space. I too am mystified by the oft-remarked upon number of folks behind the counter... Sweet green is a great place to grab a quick salad if youre working on the hill and don't feel like going into the longworth cafe. Its a little pricey, but the salads are good and fresh. They have a lot of options for the salad, but seem to nickel and dime you for everything (extra 1.00 for goat cheese etc). I always build my own, their pre-made salad had strange blends to me lol. The place buys local so that's a plus. It's pretty much like chop'ts hipster little brother. I still would rather spend my $9 on something else, but when I'm trying to be healthy its a good alternative. read more

Met with our congressman at the capitol building and got a tour by him and his aide. His aide recommended this place for lunch so we decided to try it. If the locals recommend it then it must be good, and it was. We got three different salads and they were all good. I can't remember what mine was called but it had schiracha and that made it. On a sweltering night, my daughter and I (visiting from MA) tried salads and frozen yogurt @ Sweetgreen. First, thanks for the review, Shawn - we never would have found it otherwise; thesign outside was not lit and there was no other info to let you know what they offer. Plus there were lots of employees standing around outside; we thought they were closing up but actually are open late each night. We love the Sweetgreen concept - seasonal, local food; compo stable utensils; and the small menu card contains seeds and can be planted at home. Our salads were very good - really fresh. So many choices . We finally settled on the Bondie and a Guac variety. We tried their tart yogurt sundaes which were very refreshing - you get to choose 3 toppings, like mango, berries, nuts, granola etc. My first time trying tart yogurt and I really enjoyed it - tasty and healthy. We counted at least 15 employees behind the counter- they were polite but looked crowded and bored back there, and seemed like they were learning on the job, following salad recipes; there didn't seem to be a manager or any senior person in charge. A real turn off is that a # of them were eating take out pizza for dinner -- a poor example in a place dedicated to healthy local eating. Unfortunately, the place was almost empty. A few people wandered in, not knowing what to expect. A good # left, looking for ice cream and afraid to try the yogurt. You'd never know what to expect inside by the business name - they need tho advertise what they sell and maybe offer free samples outside. We'd definitely return - but head back north tomorrow. ok, so, here is the deal: 1 good experience. 1 bad experience. 1st the good: went there on a sunday afternoon for lunch. no one who worked there was particularly nice or helpful and seemed to expect me to know what i was doing the very first time around a la soup nazi. however, they weren't straight-up unfriendly, so i let it slide. the salad i got was delicious, albeit expensive. they let me try the fro-yo which was awesome - it's organic! yessss. i liked the atmosphere, the seating, the solid wood tables and stools. at this point, i looked forward to going there again. now the BAD: fast forward 4 days. not an earth-shattering amount of time. i don't think any asteroids hit DC during those 4 days, but there was some extremely windy weather. i was in the "salad mood" and went there for dinner thursday night. HOLY CUSTOMER SERVICE EXPERIENCE FROM HELL. firstly, dude in front of us had about NINE orders written down on his piece of paper that all the behind-the-counter employees were filling while an ever-increasing long line of annoyed-arm-crossing-eye-rolling patrons kept stacking up. hello, mister!! they take CALL AHEAD ORDERS. i blame dude for sending the SweetGreen staff into chaotic disarray and a state of heightened annoyance at anything that looked, smelled, or tasted of "customer". i was the next person in line behind this guy. yay me? my turn to order. on top of not even acknowledging me or letting me know what was going on BOTH times he walked away to get something, once going all the way downstairs to fetch more lettuce (???), buddy asked me to repeat everything i said . . i'm talking every . . . single . . . ingredient. i had to say it twice. "peppers . . PEPPERS . . . corn . . . um i said 'CORN'." etc. and i also told him twice that it would be a wrap, not a salad. when he handed it to the next chick who started to put it in a BOWL, i was all "oh, it's suppose to be a wrap *smile*". in response, she rolled her eyes, threw the bowl back into place, and said "i'm gonna HAVE to take some of this OUT". wow. so much 'tude. unbelievable. there was no "would you like anything else?" or "any drinks?" just a total spit out at me and an outreaching hand. i wasn't holding out for a "thank you" or "have a good night". the overly-priced salad-wrap still tasted good, but it fell apart immediately and was wrapped as if the person doing it had not yet developed any motor skills. oh and it wasn't even cut in half. this second experience has NOT left me with a warm fuzzy nostalgia that will goad me into returning. too bad. guess it's back to Chop't for me! they're ALWAYS nice there. read more

Salads/Yogurt - 4-5 stars (really really good) Service - 2 Stars The food here is great. Very consistent, very fresh, very good. I especially like the seasonal salads. Also, the yogurt can't be beat. That said, there has not been a single time that I have come to this location that I have not had to go back to the register at least one time to have the staff correct my order. Each time I go, at least one to two key ingredients are left out of my salad - this is especially frustrating since I order off the menu (i.e. no substitutions, additions, etc.). Not sure what is going on here, but these people need to get their act together. I guess it really isn't a big deal since adding something to a salad doesn't really require much, but it is a bit weird since the restaurant is usually pretty empty each time I go (evenings). read more

I often go here, especially now that the weather has warmed up. I always order either the Derby Cobb with Cucumber Basil Yogurt dressing, or the Curry Gold, & get a fountain soda (Boylan's). Positives: fresh, locally grown produce. Innovative menu choices. Sidewalk seating. Negatives: lack of any cream dressings (Bleu Cheese or Ranch) I don't find the prices particularly high, especially given the size of the portions & the freshness/sustainability of the ingredients. I like Sweet Green. The ingredients are fresh and tasty. I usually get a "make your own" salad. The balsamic vinaigrette is delicious and interestingly, the tap water out of the soda machine is some of the best tasting water I've had! The salads were made quickly and they were so delicious! I have had the guacamole greens salad, spicy sabzi, and the avocabbo salad. The guacamole green salad came with a heaping scoop of avocado. The spicy sabzi was pretty spicy (sriracha-heavy in flavor). I love sriracha. It was unexpectedly interesting, but it was great! And the avocabbo salad also came with a generous half an avocado and it was great. I went tonight for the frozen yogurt, and wanted to share my experience. First, the yogurt runs about the same amount as other frozenyo places around town, and is good quality. I do prefer mine a bit more tart, however. The topping selection is usually pretty good, and the berries are always perfectly ripe and delicious (I'm still trying to figure that out). Tonight, the man who served my yogurt asked if I was in a rush, and when I responded "no," proceeded to decorate my yogurt with the blueberries and raspberries I had asked for, creating a masterpiece of yogurt art. This place really stands out as extraordinary. First of all, I love all the local and organic ingredients. Second of all, I really like that it's a salad that will fill you up and feel like a full meal (still, most are under 600 calories).
