I decided to support small business and ordered a pulled pork sandwich combo with baked beans and loaded potato salad via the online ordering with curbside option. Website said orders are ready in 20 minutes and I received email confirmation of my order (upon credit card payment) and said I would receive another email when order was ready. I don't think they get many online orders because after 20 min and no email, I called to inquire about the order and was told at first that they didn't show an online order, after I had paid and left a 10% tip! After being placed on hold for nearly, 5 min, I was told they were still working on my order. So I was put on another hold and a few minutes later, was told it was ready and I asked if I had to come inside and they said yes. So strike 1: no curbside and over a half hour wait. Sometime during the hold process I finally received an email saying my order was ready...about 25 min from initial online ordering and past the time stated in email. So after finally getting my food (well into my half hour lunch break!) I hurried off to Stanberry Park (nice spot behind the businesses) to scarf down my long-awaited meal. I was a happy to see a small sample side of cole slaw slaw in addition to my other sides but was disappointed upon tasting. Way too much vinegar left me glad I didn't opt for slaw as a side! The baked beans were ok but nothing special. The potato salad was very good and the best part of the combo, because the bbq was just ok and the side of sauce ( maybe KC or Memphis style) was sort of bland and nothing to write home about! Strike 2: The worst part was that the sandwich itself was rather small and along about my second bite, I bit down on what could only have been a piece of pork bone and seriously thought I broke a tooth! I mean, you don't expect to find a bone chip in the amount of bbq that could fit into a 3 oz cup, on a sandwich no less! This happened 2 days ago and I'm still not sure I won't have to visit my dentist before my next appt! Definitely strike 3! Yer out! After reading the plethora of great reviews, I was expecting much better. I wanted to be a repeat customer during my travels to Mt. Washington, because I love bbq and supporting small business. But based on my experience here, from the failed online order process to the taste and amount of food and the last straw being the bbq bone bite, I'm gonna be one and done! I wanted to go ahead and shout out sweets and meats for being a staple in our family for the past few years. They are always consistent and never disappoint. The staff is always friendly and accommodating. The food is delicious. I've tried just about everything on the menu and no complaints! I also try to make sure I try their Sunday specials when they are offered - love the meatloaf and the wings. Oh and the Banana pudding is to die for so don't forget it! Have been wanting to try Sweets & Meats BBQ for a while now given all the positive reviews I've seen online. Was excited to see them at the Miami Valley Gaming Food Truck event last weekend. I ordered the BBQ 4-Way with pulled pork. It certainly looked good but the taste was just ok. The pork or something was very greasy and oily, there was a puddle of it in the bottom of the container. Didn't love the BBQ sauce, it was more of a vinegar style so if you like that then this would be for you. Overall it was just ok, expensive for what I got but I expected that for a food truck. Also the guy taking orders was not that friendly. Was expecting better given the hype. Honestly I think finding good BBQ in cincinnati is not easy so folks give rave reviews for BBQ that is really pretty average. read more

I had the Pulled Pork sandwich with a side of Baked Beans and Mac and Cheese out of their food truck at Cincy Brew Ha-Ha. I enjoyed the baked beans the most; they were hot and fresh and very tasty. The mac and cheese was nothing to look at but it tasted good. I would have added a little salt and a lot of black pepper, but that's my thing. The pulled pork was good and the sauce was excellent. The bun was big, too. My only complaint would be the packaging didn't allow for me to sauce up the pork the way I would have liked and there weren't enough napkins. This is a pick up only place. There's no eating in. They're not open very late. At 4 the pickings are slim. Apparently they're really only good for lunch. They smoke all their meats. Our food was not served very hot. I opened my meal as soon as I got in the car. Everything was room temperature. The desserts looked pretty appetizing. I'll have to give them a try another time. The servings are a good size. I didn't find the pulled pork sandwich very special. There were no chunks of meat. There wasn't any smoke flavor. It was very finely shredded. The brisket sandwich was pulled high and sliced which is much better than chopped. The mac and cheese is the home made kind made with eggs and milk n stuff. The sweet potato casserole and the greens are tasty too. There is only one bbq sauce which they don't apply themselves, but is provided in the side. It's a good place. Not sure if the food truck is representative of the bricks and mortar store however this was extremely disappointing. Local FB pages hyped this up to be one of the best in the city. Visited the truck at the Loveland food truck rally. Sadly what should have been a stellar pulled pork sandwich turned out to be barely better than a can of overly sweet shredded pork that you would get out of a supermarket can, plain Jane slaw and to top it off a small packet of regular Sweet Baby Rays sauce. They were probably the worst wings I've ever had. The skin was tough and chewy. They were unbreakable and appeared under cooked. The seasoning was not very good either. An interesting addition to Mt. Washington for sure. I had high hopes for this place. But they suffer from schizophrenic scheduling and inadequate food planning. For a place that operated as a food truck for years, they still don't know how to ensure they have meat and sides to cover an entire shift. I get that you can't whip up more smoked meat in 5 minutes, but I've never been anywhere else that is so often out of brisket, even when I come several hours before close. On top of that, they have short hours, are closed on the weekdays I'm most likely to order takeout, and decide to arbitrarily close when their sign says they should still stay open. All of the above is why I can't recommend this place, and why I don't visit often even given the convenient location. You might ask how the food is. It's not bad. A bit pricey for the portions you receive. The brisket is the star. It's no Pontiac brisket, but it's certainly never dry. The various pork meats and chicken are OK as well. The sides vary in quality but are all OK overall. It really just comes back to my lack of confidence that they will be open or have the food items I would like to purchase. I have to update the review as I've had this place twice now. The second time was much better. The macaroni and cheese was very good. The macaroni and cheese was tender, flavorful and cheesy. The banana pudding was spectacular. It had the right amount of cookies and pudding. They did happen to run out of pulled pork, which I was not happy about. The chicken wings were barbecued and the BBQ sauce is sweet and savory. This time the sauce was in a bottle and I was able to pour the perfect amount to drench the chicken. They give huge portions, plenty more than the bun an hold! I got the Pulled Pork which is perfectly seasoned, I added sauce to mine...I could eat it either way! I was going to give this place three stars because it is convenient to where I live, but I basically threw half of a $13 purchase in the garbage, so really the 2-star "meh" designation sums up my experience there perfectly. The meat was okay, a bit expensive for what I got, which was not anywhere close to a decent brisket. The sides were weak. The bbq meats I have tried here were solidly good. Not great, but good. The prices are on the other hand among the highest for bbq in this area for what you get. For example, an 8 dollar brisket sandwich that featured about 3 ounces of meat. I see in one of the owners responses (although it was from about a year ago) that they get their buns from a local bakery, but the bun I was given with the sandwich mentioned above looked to be, like Glenn reported, straight out of a bag of generic buns from Kroger. That's not necessarily a bad thing, mind you - some of the best bbq to be found in the US is accompanied by little more than slices of plain old Wonder white bread. That said, if the intent is to provide a bakery quality bun, and the bun I was given was from a bakery - it may be in ownership's interests to consider finding a new bakery to source their buns. As of my most recent visit, they are only open on Fri, Sat, and Sun; and unlike most bbq joints I have visited locally, dont have meats available by the pound. I would however bet both of these limitations might well go by the wayside as the business establishes itself over time. Side note: the reviews for this business are a mixture of at least three incarnations of this business: at the Patriot center on Clough (which ceased operations a good while ago), as a food truck (which came next, and I think is still operating), and now as a brick and mortar in the former Little Caesars in Mt Washington, which is what my review is for. Let me just first start off by saying that the staff and the owner are some of the nicest people I've met. Every time I go in I have a great conversation and they are always so helpful and courteous. The food is great! I love the rib tips (my go-to), but I've also had their pulled pork which is so good! The sides are always got and fresh, and compliment any meal that you get! My only issues is that sometimes the food you want is out of stock, depending on what time you get there. That can be a bit upsetting when you've had your mind set on it for dinner, however, I still recommend this place to anyone who truly enjoys some good bbq! I've had their food in the Past, however we had them scheduled for their food truck and within 24 hours they cancelled after having marketed them for weeks. Their excuse...they stated they sent emails twice advising us, however it was learned they sent to a wrong email. They still had our phone number and failed to even call us. When asked to send email they supposedly sent they still can't. Food may be great but customer service will make or break you quickly. Shame they chose this path as I like the owner and his food. Went To the soft opening the staff couldn't have been more friendly or helpful from the cook to women taking the orders. This is the type of small business that you want to see succeed. They don't have inside seating so just know you will have to take the meal home with you or a park if you don't live close. I'm not much of a fan for BBQ unless it really stands out. I decided to give Sweets & Meats a try since I've been seeing their food truck and Lunch Lobby notifications a lot lately. I purchased the 4-Way (homemade mac n' cheese topped with pulled pork, coleslaw and BBQ sauce) for lunch. The portion was definitely satisfying, however, the flavor could use some work. LIKES: The added BBQ sauce is slightly spicy which gives it an appealing yet not overwhelming kick. The meat was tender and didn't have much fat or gristle mixed in. The owner is very pleasant and engaging. DISLIKES: The overall flavor was average at best. I didn't care much for the mac n' cheese or coleslaw. It's also on the pricier side both for individual meals and catering. If this food was catered somewhere (work, wedding, etc.) I would still eat it. But as a recommendation or lunch/dinner option, I will be referring to a more impressive BBQ option. read more

Alongside really great pulled pork were some out-of-this-world sides. Everything was clearly made from scratch. Potato salad, Mac and cheese, and baked beans were honestly some of the best I've ever had. The m&c was a really distinct herby flavor that was totally unique, while the potato salad and baked beans were a perfect example of absolutely nailing classic flavors. They seem to be figuring things out given the COVID-19 situation, but this didn't affect their quality at all. My wife and I were completely thrilled with the food. To the business owners, I would make a suggestion about the truck we ordered from. The exhaust pipe of the truck feeds right into the line of people standing waiting to order.
