I've have visited Sweetsalt for brunch many times (both in their new and old locations) and always enjoyed their delicious offerings and friendly staff. Decided to try them out in the evening recently and sadly cannot report the another positive experience - due to the extreme rudeness we received from Mara, a member of the staff (unsure if she was a server/manager/host). From the moment we walked in, we were greeted by an icy demeanor, followed by sheer rudeness for the duration of our time spent here. Maybe she was having a bad day, but nonetheless, we did not deserve to be on the receiving end of her bitter attitude. We won't let this deter us from enjoying time spent in your establishment in the future. But please talk to Mara and coach her on how to be more welcoming to patrons of yours - it costs nothing to be nice. read more

I'd like to give this place another go but for now, this is the review. Order at the counter and sit style of restaurant. Small menu that seems more catered to breakfast and lunch. Decent pricing but a bit on the higher side like most things these days. Restaurant has plenty of seats, clean, and bright with natural sunlight. It's definitely an upgrade over their previous location. Service was friendly and food came out quick. Good selection of pastries to enjoy with some coffee. Complaint on the coffee was it was a bit too room temp for my liking. The bad: I ordered the bacon breakfast burrito and it was pretty bland. I felt like I grabbed a burrito from a cafeteria. I normally really love coming here for the matcha latte but they were out today and so i asked for a doppio macchiato ristretto. This isn't some made up drink you can go into a Starbucks and they will make it you could go into a cafe in Italy and they will make it. To explain for management bc for some reason they don't train their baristas. Doppio means two shots. Macchiato means a small amount of steamed milk. And the most egregious offender ristretto means restricted utilizing the first half of the pull of the espresso shot which means a less bitter shot of espresso. If you don't know how to make the drink you should say i don't know how to make the drink instead of guessing that what im asking for is a single shot cortado even though i explained and said no i don't want a cortado i want a macchiato a small amount of steamed oat milk double shot just I'd like it to be ristretto. It is so offensive to pay almost $6 for this bitter sour not creamy or smooth double shot of espresso and I'm really tired of restaurants essentially scamming the community out of money by overcharging and not either being able to deliver or purposely choosing not to deliver and to clarify in case the barista claims that oh it was a busy morning. It was not busy. I was the only person placing an order until the very end when she walked to over to "make" a drink she had no clue how to make. At the very least she could have used her phone to look up what a ristretto is. It's literally an open book test. Also this wasn't dine in. It's like every question she asked me i gave her the answer and then she typed in the complete opposite. I really hate to give this place 1 star but after my experience this morning i wish i could give it zero stars. read more

After an errand nearby I had to check this place out cause it looked so nice from outside. Sure enough you go in and see these good looking cookies and pastries on display. Scones ,banana bread, muffins and more. They also serve coffee drinks and tea. Their food menu is full of delicious sandwiches, salads etc... I ordered Buffalo chicken sandwich and loved it. Served warm with a side of mixed green salad. Really good. There are many things that I wanted to try but I chose this. Great customer service as well. read more

We have been frequenting on and off since before they moved into the new location. Their pastries, breakfast burrito and coffee are all really good. I have not ventured to far out beyond those staples in the morning options. But, We visited the wine bar area in the back one evening and got fresh pizzas....super impressed. I don't usually like pizza but the hubs and I finished both pizzas without even thinking twice about it. I think one was with figs and the other with prosciutto. Both were delicious. They were out of or just had run out of most the beers that we wanted but the bartender was great company and did his best to accommodate so that definitely made up for it. I believe they have a happy hour that is super reasonably priced to check out also! read more

Finally got an opportunity to frequent the new space that Sweetsalt moved into in Toluca Lake. It's considerably more comfortable than it's former space and offers much more privacy and breathing room that the old space sorely needed. As always, the service at Sweetsalt is top notch with quick turnaround time from the kitchen and the counter staff being as helpful as ever. The menu...and it's been a while since I've been, it feels like it's been revamped offering some new items that i previously might not have noticed. Two thumbs up to the brioche breakfast sandwich with sausage. Perfect juiciness with a nice mixture of sweet and savory from the sausage and brioche loaf. Overall, while Sweetsalt might be more of a weekday lunch spot for the glitterati of the Burbank scene, it's a great choice for those looking for a relaxing brunch scene on the weekends without too much of a wait and a more diverse menu than say Aeirloom or Patys. read more

Where to start? The inside feels like a cafeteria and odd curtains wall off the back of the place. Zero ambiance. The salmon and haricot vert salad had about 2 oz of flaked, fishy tasting salmon and maybe two green beans. It was overdressed and watery. First time here after hearing mixed reviews from friends. I see everything they meant. Went with a group of girls. In general pairing Olin this area can be a real pain. There is a lot behind the building. Ok. To the juicy stuff. This is an order at the counter set up. The menu looks impressive. Gives the impression it will be a little on the higher end cafe. Two of us ordered the avocado toast. HONEY... the ONE little piece of bread they served us was about as generous as food during the Great Depression. If it were any thinner, it would've broken when anything was smeared. The avocado was rationed, sloppily smeared, and had no taste. For $16 it came with a side salad. That was about 10 pieces of lettuce. HUGE disappointment. The picture looks better than it did in person. Another person got an omelet. I think it was $17. That was more generous. But.... The lemonade, lavender matcha and lavender latte were delish!! The person at the counter was twirling her first day. She did a great job and was a jovial spirit. Others were very neutral. Nothing negative to say about the service. Might be back for a latte, but not sure about overpaying for another meal. . read more

Everything I've had from sweet salt has been good quality and yummy. I mostly have had their delicious baked goods that they offer here. One of my favorites is the lemon crinkle cookie it was so good and chewy with great lemon flavor. I recently got the lavender fries to eat with my lunch and I really enjoyed them. I never would've thought lavender on a fry would be something I'd enjoy but it was great! The service is good the workers are really helpful and kind. This is my neighborhood spot. It use to be located up a block from where it is now in a smaller area. They are now where the previous Honey Baked Ham was. It seems since they moved to a larger spot their prices doubled and the items got smaller not in size but by filling. My friend had the short rib sandwich. You can barely see the meat and I had the turkey Avocado bacon sandwich. It had two slices of turkey in an oversized bread filled with Arugula instead of Avocado and turkey. The sandwiches run from $24-$28 . I think I would have been better off going to Subway. The service is somewhat nice, but the staff said they ran out of items so someone had to run out to buy some that is why the order took so long to prep. What they have done with the place is very cute, but I probably will give them one more try just in case it was just an off day but if they have gotten cheep with their fillings; I'm not interested. I don't mind paying $26 or $28 for a sandwich but I don't want to get full by eating bread with a tease of cold cuts and on my friends case shredded shaved meat. I have passed by this place many times during my Saturday runs and someone from my run club mentioned about it selling a great chocolate chip cookie. Today was the day to try out some pastries. The place is very big, high ceilings, cozy and modern. The girl at the register was really sweet and gave me great recommendations on what pastries she loved. I will come back again because she swayed me to get the cinnamon roll over the carrot cake. My rating scale: 0/5 = SPIT IT OUT 1/5 = one bite is enough 2/5 = two bites is enough 3/5 = decent 3.5/5 = decent but tastier 4/5 = so good 4.5 = almost 5/5 good 5/5 = LADY GAGA (inspired by her interview meme "talented, brilliant, incredible, amazing, show stopping, spectacular, never the same, totally unique, completely not ever been done before.") Let's begin. Chocolate chip cookie: exactly what I look for in a classic cookie. Crispy on the outside, soft in the middle. No excessive chocolate chips. 5/5 Cowboy cookie: I did not catch this one on the display case so I am happy the girl recommended it. It did not disappoint. Great texture and you can taste the oatmeal! It isn't overpowered by the chocolate. 4.5/5 Confetti cookie: This one sadly let me down. I am HUGE on birthday cake/confetti/sprinkle cookies. The taste of birthday was there but very subtle. What was the biggest critique was the texture. It was a crumbly cookie, leaning towards shortbread. It didn't have the same texture as the chocolate chip cookie that most confetti cookies do. 1/5 Snickerdoodle cookie: The flavor was nice but also a texture problem and way too much cinnamon sugar. 2/5 Brownie: What I look for in a brownie is leaning towards the texture of cake instead of hard candy. However, even if this one was super dense, the poignant but not overwhelming chocolate taste helps it. 3.5/5 Cinnamon roll: Another great recommendation. Usually with cinnamon rolls, most of the bread is saved by the cream cheese frosting. Not the case here. The roll itself is soft and with an AMAZING cream cheese frosting (a pretty big size dollop serving too). 5/5 Orange olive oil loaf: I feel this is their main star. Moist with a great glaze on top. I think when you see it in person, you know it will simply taste divine. 5/5 Blueberry ricotta loaf: the visual caught my eye. I expected more from it though and a bit too hard but the flavor is alive with a hint of lemon and the powdered sugar on top is a nice touch. 3.5/5 Triple chocolate ganache cake: Aside from the confetti cookie, this was the other I was most excited for and it disappointed on every level. I have made several chocolate cakes to understand that espresso powder or hot coffee is used to enrich the flavor but I fear either the recipe requires too much or someone accidentally over-measured the espresso/hot coffee because this cake was a coffee cake ft. chocolate, not the other way around. Not only the flavor, but the cake itself was drenched and lightly dripping from so much coffee in it. 1/5 I know we ended on a sour note BUT I would gladly visit again. Plus, like I stated above, a 1/5 rating is not a "spit it out" rating. Overall, this place has some great dessert options and a great chocolate chip cookie. This is an adorable local spot to grab a casual breakfast or lunch bite. I have come here a few times, don't have to worry about a reservation because its new location is huge and they have plenty of seating options. At this visit I had the Chicken & Bacon Lettuce Cups and lavender French fries with the green ice tea. All were delicious. I have friends with dietary restrictions and all find something to eat here. They have a huge menu which seems to be on the healthy side of offerings. Service is excellent. read more

I went to Sweetsalt, wine bar section to meet a friend and celebrate my birthday, and what turned out to be a solo evening became something really nice. The space was incredibly cozy, with twinkly lights, battery-lit candles, and a beautiful ambiance. Bonus points right away for having Titanic playing on the bar TV -- no sports! My friend was running late, so I ordered a drink, and from the very beginning Jerrone provided outstanding service. He thoughtfully set the table for two, placed our waters with carafe (love not having to ask!), and he let me sample a wine to make sure I chose the right one. When I got the call that my friend couldn't make it, I let Jerrone know and mentioned I'd now be treating myself that night. To my surprise and gratitude, he treated my glass of vino. I was sipping my wine, enjoying the movie. Why go home? I went ahead and ordered their delicious pizza. Even as a party of one, the service was top-notch. I also had the pleasure of meeting Stacy, who was incredibly kind. I shared with her that I recently lost a parent, and she was compassionate -- she even offered me sweets after my pizza. Aww! All in all, the night worked out perfectly. I felt genuinely taken care of the entire time and really enjoyed being there. It was the perfect kind of therapy, I needed, ha! I visited Sweet Salt for the first time, you order at the counter and your food is brought to your table. What struck me unfavorably was the 20% default tip prompt when paying via Apple Pay. For counter service? That felt excessive. I ordered the short rib sandwich and a cold latte. The sandwich was flavorful and well-prepared, and the latte was solid. However, the French fries were a letdown they didn't seem freshly made and tasted like they'd been sitting out for a while. During my visit, a woman in an apron brought a freshly made drink to my lunch companion. I asked her for a straw, thinking she might have one on her since she was wearing an apron with large pockets. Instead, she pointed me toward a separate area and said I could grab one there myself. Later I learned she was the manager. Honestly, that interaction summed up the lackluster customer service. Honestly. I come here because it close by, the ambiance is great, and they have working WiFi. It's a nice place to do some work, but they are not worth the money. The food is good, but for the price, the servings are minuscule. A bowl of soup? More like a cup anywhere else. And they NEVER fill the bowl up to the top. They leave an inch to the top at least. A salad with salmon? $30 easy with tax. You realize I could get pasta for that price... hand-made pasta at Ca Del Sol nonetheless. A matcha latte? Doesn't come in a generous bowl-like latte mug, but a small flippin' cup I would never deign call a mug. And they charged me almost $7 for it (before tip). The first time I got it, it was so watered down I had to ask them to remake it. And still... it didn't taste nearly as good as other matcha lattes I've had. Sweetsalt use to be great, before COVID when it was at its last location down the block. There were people that had worked there for years, but they're all gone now, and it just doesn't feel the same. SWEETSALT is a local cafe in Toluca Lake that is very much welcome after a hike in nearby Griffith Park. SWEETSALT is located on a major street and there are plenty of metered parking available on the street. There was no line to get in. There is a short line to order. There is no wait to find a free table to sit in. The place looks like someone's home. And those warm old craftsman home too, not these cold modern houses popping up like mushrooms after a wet weekend. The daughter really liked her Avocado Toast and I gotta admit, this one was fully loaded and was well seasoned. Micro Greens Omelet was large and very filling The Iced Honey Lavender Matcha with Almond Milk was very good and very interesting. I don't think I've had that combination before. The Breakfast Burrito was large and heavy. Could be split between two people if you don't have a healthy appetite and didn't just come back from a 5 mile hike. The Iced Vanilla Latte was strong and good. The Breakfast Sandwich is also fully loaded and totally satisfying. I am not opposed to paying the Kitchen staff but I really don't understand why it has to be separate line item in the bill. May I suggest increasing the price of everything by 3%, maybe even 5%, and paying the employees more rather than having a separate line item? I wonder if it's a tax thing? read more

Thank you to the location scouts of "Dirty John," who used the previous spot in their show...the charm of the space in that particular scene made us instantly look it up and realize it was just around the corner from my husband's office. Now we've finally gotten to try the new location after anxiously awaiting Sweetsalt's return and it did NOT disappoint! They definitely kept the spirit of the old, smaller spot alive in this much larger, beautifully simplistic space. The space is light-filled and pleasant, designed in a way that even full the volume of sound within was not too much...dying to see it finished as I spied what looks like massive future wine storage (perhaps I'm way off) along the back wall of the dining area. And the food? We went for lunch yesterday and it was just as beautiful and delicious as I remembered! Everything was fresh and flavorful. I ADORE their lavender fries...it's such a subtle little sweetness added and it makes them very unique! Those pastries shall soon be calling my name... read more

The pictures don't really do it justice. This is a very beautiful, quiet, romantic spot. The service is always really friendly and warm. The food, the menu needs some work for sure because there is not much there and not many options if you're gluten free which is a bummer. I feel like it has a lot of potential, this could easily be the place I have every catch up lunch or dinner with my girls until the end of time... we just need more options on that menu! read more

We've been regular customers and really enjoy the food and flavors here. We often leave a generous tip--20%--because we appreciate good service. However, our recent experience was disappointing. When our lunch was brought to the table, the server asked if we needed anything else. We requested hot sauce, and instead of bringing it, he told us, "There is a self-service--you are welcome to take it." I went to get it myself, and as I walked away, I noticed him smirking. I said to him, "If you weren't going to get it, why ask if we needed anything else? That's poor customer service." He just stared at me and didn't respond. While we were eating, he came back to our table and said he didn't like what I said and that I was being rude--which I don't think was fair at all. I calmly replied, "What's the point of leaving a tip if you're not doing your job?" He just said, "Oh well! Have a good day," and walked away. I asked to speak with a manager. He said okay, but no one ever showed up. I was with someone who is handicapped, so we had to leave shortly after. My message to the staff: if you don't enjoy what you're doing, please consider how that affects your customers. Poor service leaves a bad taste, no matter how good the food is.
