I'm rarely in this area, but was here hosting a photographic arts meetup nearby, so we stopped in for coffee. Sweetwaters had a very helpful staff, with kind smiles on a very early Sunday morning. Pleasant customers and nice atmosphere. The bathroom was also very clean bathroom (see photo). I doubt I'll be around here to come often, if at all, but if you're in the area I would take some time out to pop in and get some morning flava! read more

Unfortunately they don't tell you this or let it be known that you need to come before 630 if you want coffee smh. Walked 15mins in 27 degrees (feels like 5 degrees) to grab a very much needed coffee just for them to tell me they aren't serving coffee anymore smh and they don't even close until 7pm. Sweetwaters has a cute and calming atmosphere at each of their locations. Although it's a bit on the pricey side, I much rather spend my money at this local chain than a mega Corp. like Starbucks. Baristas here are all knowledgeable and very kind; always ready to provide recommendations based on your preference. I particularly like the location in Ypsi because they support local vendors, like Dom's bakery! read more

The chai was good, a little different than most chai lattes in my past. You can really taste the honey and allspice, which almost reminds me of an apple pie! It is a delicious spin on chai. I wish I would have ordered an extra shot, since I ordered the triple (Sweetwaters version of a large.) My first Sweetwaters experience was a pleasant one. As someone who has explored pretty much every coffee shop in the Ann Arbor and Ypsilanti area, this is my top choice. Firstly, the coffee is actually high quality. Secondly the staff is very friendly and open to giving recommendations. I enjoy walking in and getting to chat with them! Third, the atmosphere is a welcoming space but also one where it is easy to focus. I find myself spending large amounts of time studying/getting work done. Stopped here in the morning to enjoy a Double coco Cappuccino blueberry scone. Great customer service with very knowledgeable barista I will be back to sit outside and enjoy the view. The Coco Cappuccino tastes great no need to add anything to it. The blueberry scones a little dry, i'll give it another go next time. They have a lot of coffee creations. I decided on this location to meet up with a friend. It is near the EMU campus and offers plenty of parking, although it seems that you pay a meter toll during the day, i gratefully missed it. The place is small and quaint. The art work on the wall was fantastic. It was a nice, colorful drawing by an assumed, local talented artist. The staff were also pleasant. There are good selections of coffees and pastries. I got the caramel latte. It was a great cup of coffee and packs a nice caffeine punch. i also had the Blueberry pastry which was a great compliment to the coffee. They have Wifi and plenty of seating. I plan on stopping back through soon. read more

Sweetwaters in YPSI has quickly become my favorite coffee shop around! Always greeted by staff with good vibes. Love the variety of caffeinated (or not) drinks - my favorites are the chai, matcha lattes, ginger lemon teas, dragon eye, mochas (with added spice!) and more. Greatly appreciate the local owner, local baked goods, and local artists's worked showcased in an inviting corner neighborhood cafe and patio space. And where else can you sit around, productively working (or conversing etc.) while enjoying a prime view of the Ypsi Dick all day ;) THE BEST!!! read more

Every time I try this place, I get more and more disappointed that I only can get mad at myself for thinking well maybe this time, it will be great, I was so, so wrong! Don't understand how Sweetwaters in Ann Arbor is absolutely great and this people are the worst in every which way you can think of. First the prices are absolutely out of this world, I can only conclude that they assume the students will buy it regardless. I seriously saw a sandwich priced at $8, it wasn't any bigger than my hand. Let's talk about my latte that I spend a ridiculous amount on, to have it made with soy and 1/3 of my latte was missing. I understand that maybe the frothed milk lost it's fluff but a third?! I can go on and on, but this place is ridiculous. I'll actually walk a little bit more to get a real latte, and if I want a sandwich, I'll go to Jimmy Johns and get a meal for less than $8. Try to avoid this location, and to make matters worst, pray that you're going to find a parking to get a high priced sandwiched or someone else's leftover latte! This Ypsi franchise of Ann Arbor's beloved hometown cafe sits at the end of Cross St., across from EMU, in the shadow of Ypsi's limestone Dong of Power. Great retail feng shui, and a super upgrade to the block. This one has the same assortment of local baked goods and signature drinks as their other locations, but in their smallest and most upscale setup. From the gorgeous, high-top communal table up front (handmade from reclaimed wood), to the wood-planked / chalkboard walls, it's a warm, classy spot to work in, meet someone, or grab a drink on your way in/out of the city (easy street parking and adjacent lot). Yay for cafe diversity - between the lived-in living room of the Ugly Mug, the expansive and eclectic Cafe Ollie, and Sweetwaters fishbowl facing EMU, there's a few good ways to kill time with caffeine in Ypsi! read more

Blech. I had to get on and write this because I was so grossed out and disappointed this morning. I went to this Sweetwaters a few times before when they first opened and I still lived in the area. It seemed fine. I'm always surprised at their prices when I go there. For some reason I expect them to be a little less expensive than Ugly Mug (which has a better quality of coffee) which is why I chose them today since I just wanted an iced coffee. (Moment of clarification: Ugly mug's iced coffee is AMAZING, just their large is a 16 oz and expensive. I wanted more bang for less bucks. Sigh) It was pricier than I expected - and unfortunately it was pretty gross which just added insult to the injury. I tried to drink it, I mean, I can force myself to drink Maxwell house when I'm desperate, but for the price I paid I only took maybe two sips before I grit my teeth and drove to the nearest Starbucks to get a replacement drink. I dumped it out in the parking lot. Ugh. WATERY. Yikes! I could taste a hint of coffee flavor (I think, maybe I was so traumatized I was desperately forcing my tastebuds to compensate), though what flavor I couldn't tell you because it was so watered down. Did they just take old hot coffee and dump ice in it? It had so much ice in it already! I had to battle with the cup with the straw to shove it in there it was packed so tight with ice cubes. The store smelled like backed up sewer. I knew as soon as that smell hit me that I should have just turned and left but I'm too big of a wuss since the barista greeted me. Shame on me, it's my money! So I bought the drink anyway and boy did I get my comeuppance for doing that. Very disappointing experience, especially since I go out of my way to get coffee in this area (my choice, since where I work only has Starbucks and I wanted something different) and was left wanting. Lesson learned. I'm sorry Ugly Mug, I'll never forsake you for Sweetwaters again. read more

The most irritating thing about Sweetwaters is the fact that they fill your drink to the brim, then expect you to walk over to the counter with napkins and lids, then actually put a lid on. This task is absolutely impossible, dear Yelpers, but by ordering from this establishment you have accepted the challenge. I find myself here when I'm in the mood for tea and have some time to kill around Eastern. It's not the kind of place I would drive to, but it serves a purpose. The drinks are expensive, as expected of a college-town coffee shop. They're also very sweet and tasty! The interior is always clean, and the service has consistently been acceptable. Maybe it's just me, but Sweetwater has never been the kind of place I would write home about. Nothing about it is particularly excellent. I enjoy the variety of teas they have, but that may be all it has going for it. Perhaps I'll never get over receiving a cup filled to the brim with (ice) tea and then being expected to transport it lidlessly to the lids across the store. Without spilling it on the way there. And without spilling it while putting the lid on. But Mia, you say, why not just take a sip first!? Because it's a Thai iced tea and taking a sip first means just drinking half and half and no. Stir then sip? Too full of ice to stir. Despite my frustrations, the Thai iced tea is very good, albeit heavy on the ice. It's a relaxing place near campus with free wifi, so why not? read more

My absolute go to coffee stop. I'm an EMU student who commute but sometimes I have days that I'm on campus for 6 hours. I have longer breaks in between classes, and when I want to get some work done, the student center is often too noisy. Sweetwaters is always the perfect spot. My favorite thing to order is the dreamy, and the orange chocolate chip muffin or chocolate chip scone!! Their pastries are always so fresh, and the coffee is great!! I am usually a huge fan of this location and Sweetwaters in general but my recent experience was so terrible I will not be returning. Despite placing our order on the mobile app so we could quickly grab coffee while we ran errands my boyfriend and I waited over 40 minutes for our drinks. The staff had to be reminded that we even placed an order as they made the orders of people who arrived at the store 10-15 minutes AFTER us. Once we finally got our drinks after 40 minutes they were out of straws for the size drink we ordered and the drinks were so full that we couldn't even drink our coffee for fear of spilling it all over the car. Sweetwaters has amazing coffee but find a different location. This one is not worth your time or money read more

Sweet waters cold beverages are one of my favorites in town . I love to go to their all four shops in Ypsilanti, Ann Arbor downtown and Kerrytown. All though all of them don't have the same sitting arrangements . Some are bigger than the other . But the good thing is they all are consistent with their good service. I love there cold brews but recently I had one lychee frappe and it was magnificent. Sweetwaters chocolate cake is also my most favorite. It is moist, rich in flavor and the pricing with the portion is justified too . I have purchased few more boxed items from there and they all were really good quality. I love going to Sweetwaters. They do have free WiFi. I love spending time sitting there with my favorite drink and my book or laptop. The service and ambiance is always good. Seriously my favorite coffee shop when I'm in town for work. I drive an extra ten minutes just to go to this location. They have such a chill vibe and the staff are so personable. Every time I walk I feel like I'm going to a family-owned cafe. Most recently, I went there to do some work and a barista noticed that i spilled my coffee on the table. Five stars is not enough for this place. I have been going here for coffee for almost a year now, and have never had a bad experience. The coffee is great, love the baked goods...even the day olds (mainly because they're a dollar lol) I like it because it's normally busy which is a good sign, the staff is really friendly. I am now actual real life friends with most of the people who work here. Always really clean in there, and the prices are fair. It's more expensive than Starbucks, but for the quality of the coffee there, and the all around atmosphere I would gladly pay this much and more for my coffee. Hopefully they don't look at this and start charging me more. The only sad thing is when I move out of state I can't take them with me. I will somehow have to find a place that lives up to my new expectations and standards...thank you SweetWaters. read more

I have only tried a Thai Iced Tea from here, clearly it wasn't authentic, but it was still pretty tasty! I would like to go back to try something new next time I am in town. The shop itself is very cute! As much as I love Starbucks, it was fun to try out a new coffee shop! read more

Great place to come and work on homework or just to talk. The staff is very friendly and is willing to help you decide between various types of teas, coffees, or snacks. Love the space, love the design, LOVE the chalk wall in the back. Gives the place an artistic flair without being tacky. This place is great and I will definitely be back again. I do wish that they could have later hours, but do appreciate that they are open until 11. I have late classes that don't get out until 9pm and having a cafe that's open past class hours is wonderful. The options to stay out late and do homework late is quite limited, unless I want to drive to Ann Arbor. Thanks guys for opening up this cafe for us students. read more

I had the huge oatmeal raisin cookies here a few months ago and fell in love! However, the last 3 cookies I have gotten -- going out of my way because I can't stop thinking about the ones from the first time -- have been less than substandard!!! The first time I chalked it up to a fluke, and I took it back and asked for a replacement. The second one was better but still not good. So I decided that was just a bad day. Today I bought another one and it was worse than the last two! I swear these cookies taste like they've been in the freezer for months -- freezer burned and stale. We caught the 4th of July parade here sitting on the outdoor patio and drinking a latte and a lemonade, respectively. Walking distance from my home so I love to stop by for weekend brunch or a weekday lunch. Great coffee, ginger fizz, nice cookies and the occasional savory (panini-type sandwiches, a pesto type pastry, salads; menu seems to vary but they are always good.
