Then we sat down to hot fresh catfish which was delicious. The other veggies were one 1as well. We had sweet potatoes, peas, cornbread!!! When I tell you this was the best soul food, that's exactly what I mean. The ambiance was so real. There was this lady seated with her friends from church just starting talking to us as though she really knew us. She complimented me on my cowgirl hat. So genuine. During my trip to Nashville, I went to Swett's for lunch with my family. I learned quickly that Nashville have amazing food so I was excited to try soul food. You walk in and grab your plate and silverware before entering the line. It's like a cafeteria style restaurant so you pick and choose while going down the line. The workers were friendly and patient behind the glass. I ordered the Rotisserie chicken, green beans , and candy yams. The Rotisserie chicken was juicy once you cut the chicken. It had herb-covered seasoning on the crispy skin. It was delicious! The portion size was okay/ just enough. The yams and green beans were also delicious. You can tell the recipe was homemade and passed down to generations. I also tried the cornbread. I honestly didn't like it, it was dry and hard. I recommend getting the rolls. Swett's is one of the best meat and three joints in Nashville and they put out some fantastic food. They have a great old Nashville vibe and their building has decades of history on the walls. Service is cafeteria line style like many of the other local meat and three joints along with the expected rotation of daily specials. The flavor of all the meats and vegetables I have had here have all been extremely pleasing to my senses. They are so proud of their food here they even put their name on their china. They also are open for dinner and they have a decent amount of parking around the place so depending on the time of day you might actually avoid the crowds. The folks working here are really nice and give full blown classic Southern hospitality to you as you go through the line and throughout your visit. I could literally eat here everyday for two weeks (or longer) and never get bored and be quite happy as some of this food would even put my grandma's to shame and there is such an amazing selection of items. Overall this is a definite stop when you are in Nashville for fantastic food and great service. Pro Tip: Many of the other meat and three joints in Nashville close after lunch so you can actually eat lunch at another spot then have dinner at Swett's if you want to do a double feature of Nashville meat and three Nirvana. I love eating here. The beef tips and pork chops are delicious, so is collard greens and sweet corn. Baked potatoes are a little sour. I wouldn't recommend getting rice with the beef because I just generally don't think long grain rice tastes good (life long being spoiled by jasmine rice). read more

Now this is what you call comfort food! Swetts is a cafeteria style restaurant, but don't under estimate it's flavor. They have a variety of meats, sides, cobbler and cakes. It was the best fried chicken I have ever had, I had to come back twice during my trip. The fried chicken was nice and crispy with an amazing flavor. My first go I tried a Fried chicken plate with white meat, greens, mac n cheese, and potato casserole, for dessert I got a chocolate cake. Every bite I had I was in heaven. Everything was delicious down to the lemonade & sweet tea! For my second trip of course I had to have the fried chicken again. Sides, Greens, mac n cheese, cabbage, and mashed potato's and gravy. Let me tell y'all the mashed potatoes and gravy knocked my socks off. I wanted to drink the gravy lol. Mac and cheese is so creamy and juicy it's a must. Actually every side you try is 10/10!! As for dessert, I give the chocolate cake a 7/10 it wasn't as moist as I would like. Peach cobbler 7/10 only because I wish there was more peaches. The food was horrible. Specifically, the chicken was so dry it couldn't be chewed. Friends ordered pig feet that had hair on them, were tough and were overwhelmed with garlic. He then ordered a pork chop and said it was extremely tough. Best part of our meals was the mashed potatoes and cornbread, not the fried variety. Great food and service. Visiting Nashville, this place is not in the center of the action so I sought it out. It's not far from downtown and I want to give back to the local community. This place is a well known soul food place there. The place is set up cafeteria style. You walk in and get a tray, pick up your utensils and proceed to the line. At the front of the line, they have a fridge with desserts and some desserts on a shelf. The banana pudding looked green. Not sure why. I assume it was old. They only had some tables roped off so you couldn't sit there but not enough to enforce social distancing. People could easily be sitting on top of each other. There was hand sanitizer around. The people did not seem happy to be there. Customer service was lacking but I guess being cafeteria style doesn't lead to that having to be a thing. The lady at the register was nice. She helped me carry my tray because I had my sons drink and mine. I was bound to drop it and we both knew it so she said she would help. The menu was full of awesome things. Fried chicken, rotisserie chicken, ribs, beef tips etc. Definitely something for everyone. All the meals came with 2 sides. I got the beef tips on bed of rice and asked for extra sauce that the beef was in and Mac and cheese. The beef tips were delicious. They weren't tough at all. The juice was great with the rice. The beef was a tad bit salty not too bad, but you could taste the salt. The Mac and cheese was mediocre. It wasn't the greatest but it wasn't bad either. I mixed it with the beef tips and rice so it was great all together. This is actually the 2nd time I have visited Nashville and came to this place. Everyone always recommends it. Came for lunch. I was visiting and arrived by Uber. It's not far from downtown and close to the Parthenon. It's cafeteria style, but not all you can eat. Grab a tray, you can get salad and dessert if you want first, then the staff will help you with the entree. There is a menu on the wall and all the options are on a hot buffet in front of you. After you get your entree you get a drink, and then pay. The seating area is a small room with four person tables. The food is amazing! My smothered pork chops were tender and flavorful. I was excited to try this place during my first trip to Nashville and I left conflicted. I didn't want to write a bad review but I would not eat here again and wouldn't recommend it to anyone else. Worst peach cobbler I have ever had in my entire life. The banana pudding was just okay. Mac n cheese had plenty of cheese but little actual flavor. Crispy on the outside, moist on the inside, not greasy, just tasty. Meatloaf was ok, had a tomato sauce (I prefer gravy). Loaded mashed potatoes I didn't like, had a weird taste. With a market right across the street and a line of locals waiting to place their orders, I could tell this is somewhere that has been a respected food location for years. The service was great as I was greeted by the sweet staff. There are also plenty of options to choose from that can fit anyone's tastes (except if you're vegan I think lol). This is dining hall style serving and I chose rotisserie chicken, cheesy mashed potatoes, cabbage, baked cornbread, and chocolate chip cookies. The rotisserie chicken, cabbage, and especially the chocolate chip cookies were great and they provided good portions. However the cornbread was dry and the mashed potatoes weren't that flavorful. Overall I enjoyed my experience, it wasn't too expensive for what I got, and I would try it again. One piece of feedback is I think drinks should be included in the price instead of costing extra. read more
