A wonderful neighborhood restaurant. The staff is amazingly attentive and always asks how you are and what they can do for you. We always have breakfast so I can't comment on lunch. The standard eggs, bacon and potatoes is great! I once had Quiche Lorraine which was moist and fresh. It was delicious. They have desserts so we both tried something. I had Lemon Meringue Pie; it was some of the best I've ever had. My husband had Chocolate Mousse Cake and he enjoyed i All in all, it was a terrific experience. One of the coziest spots you'll eat at. I spent my college years visiting Syb's and now, whenever I'm up in Allentown. I grew up in the Lehigh Valley and have driven past this place hundreds of times but never stopped in, big mistake! I finally tried it for breakfast and can't believe I've been sleeping on it all these years. My go-to meal is a plain bagel, toasted, with cream cheese and lox, a diet Snapple, and, more often than not, a slice of lemon meringue pie. Mary Elizabeth usually orders a cup of soup--all are delicious--and one of the varieties of quiche--also excellent choices. Owner Cathy is a delight and even taught me how to start my new car from afar! Danny makes me laugh, and Mary knows what I want without asking. My husband and I got a bacon, egg and cheese on a roll (we are from NYC so IYKYK ) It was one of the best bacon, egg and cheese on a roll I have had in a long time! I have so many fears: supermarket bagels, prepackaged presliced store-bought nova, old fish, etc. Nonetheless, I was in the Lehigh area for work, so I went to yelp.com to find somewhere for lunch. She was very friendly and attentive. I dined al fresco. The meal was delicious as was the piping hot coffee. I ordered the triple combo with nova, whitefish, and the kip. My fears were immediately allayed. I found the food to be delightful. The whitefish salad receives honorable mention. It was unique in a good way--not from the tub, but instead a homemade schmeer with some chunks, limited mayo, and some surprising chopped egg. Have been meaning to try this place for a while. It did not disappoint. It is a small crowded space, and you will wait for breakfast, but somehow those things just add to the experience. It is real home cooking. Scrambled eggs are not overcooked, cheese on the omelets is perfectly melted, the home fries are crispy and well seasoned, and the toasted breads come buttered. We need to go back to try some other things. The table behind us got the Challah French toast an raved about it. There had to be at least 4 different quiches. And the bagels looked like they should. A real gem. Outstanding friendly service and reasonable prices in a cozy environment made it well worth the detour from 78 while passing through. This is the first time I've ever scored 5* when not every ordered item was 5*. Our party of three loved the chicken & walnut salad and quiche Lorraine. The corned beef in the sandwich wasn't great, but the sandwich definitely turned out better than it could have been by ordering it warm and with the addition of excellent cole slaw placed smartly within the meat instead of on top, where it usually gets really messy, then topped with Russian dressing. For $8, my expectations (not very high) still managed to be exceeded-but I'll probably try something else next time. One word of advice for travelers-if you think you might need a restroom break, take care of business elsewhere before your visit, such as during a refueling stop at Wawa. The restrooms-while clean-are uncomfortably tiny and in the basement, accessible only after walking through the working kitchen. read more

Syb's is located on a side street, so you don't know it's there unless you know it's there. I'd been hearing great things about this deli for years. Now, I really wanted to support a local business, so I made a special trip. First, everyone was wearing masks, insisting customers wear masks and social distance. THANK YOU!! There is a small tented area out front, with one side open for fresh air. Inside is cute, like an old fashioned New York deli with booths, tables, personal photos and nostalgic, kitschy decor. I couldn't decide what I wanted--everything sounded and looked so good! The employees were patient, kind and helpful in assisting with my decision. There was a specials board with some very interesting-sounding quiches and soups, but a few things were sold out. (It was near closing.) So I opted for the Chicken Walnut Salad on wheat. Like most real delis, they have lots of bread choices, including wraps, rolls, bagels, as well as Jewish specialties such as Challah. (Making an assumption here, since I'm not Jewish.) The sandwich looked so good I could hardly wait to get home. Ok, I didn't wait and made a mess in my car. It was thick and fresh and delicious!! I've had breakfast here before but never lunch. The breakfasts have always delivered, so when a midweek opportunity presented itself for lunch, we were all over it. All seating was outside, al fresco dining, given the times of COVID, so we chose a quaint table with umbrella in front of their classic sunshiny, yellow awning. I chose a turkey and pepper jack sandwich on GF bread. My husband ordered the Reuben. We each ordered the unsweetened ice tea with lemon (delicious!) which also included free refills. My sandwich came out piled high with turkey, cheese, L, T, mustard, and mayo (as requested). The turkey tasted like a thanksgiving turkey prepared and sliced thin. Very fresh tasting! The sandwiches came with a good pickle sliced in half in lieu of chips which was a nice change up. I love the neighborhood vibe of this place - literally in a residential neighborhood with some small businesses around. There are quite a few regulars here. And, the regulars seem to know one another as they greet each other and exchange pleasantries. The people who work here always make me feel welcome. When I'm able to dine inside, the decor has me looking all around. There are bits of whimsy, history, and signs all around which will have you smiling. This place is special. The heart and soul of West End Allentown. Cheap, delicious deli food. Sometimes I wish their bread was more local/boutique instead of Arnold's or whatever they buy, but why mess with what works? I tend to prefer hipstery craft food places or authentic ethnic places, but Sybs is an exception, and with good reason. You can't go wrong with the seafood platter or the Reuben. Or much at all, as far as I can tell. Egg dishes are maybe a little overpriced, and the omelettes seem pretty standard. But it's still good. Go for the vibes, stay for the food. read more

If you're hungry for breakfast and you're in Allentown (or, heck, in Bethlehem or Easton), stop at Syb's. No, Tom S., they don't serve pork products because it's a Jewish deli, so you'll have to satisfy your scrapple cravings elsewhere. And, yes, it does have a slightly fishy fragrance (like all great Jewish delis do), but that's because that's exactly what you should order. My go-to: 3-egg omelet with a side of kippered salmon (a cured salmon that's a little less oily than lox). Back-up: A corned beef sandwich on a toasted sesame bagel with brown mustard, served with a pickle. If you're starving, a side of potatoes will do. You'll just have to ask for the Frank's RedHot. The servers are lovely and liberal with the coffee pot. Come a couple times and they'll learn your name. I've yet to leave this place without that warm, fuzzy feeling of helping out a local business. Excellent customer service - with a smile. I got the day's special: Breakfast Crepe - lox, egg, scallion and a white sauce on top; sliced cubed potatoes as the side. The smoked salmon was tender, excellent flavor (not too much salt, too)! Well-mixed scrambled eggs. The crepe had a white gravy-like sauce on top - I didn't hear exactly what it was. It was subtle and creamy. Perhaps their personal take on a "gravy"... Whatever, it only complemented more. The fried potatoes had a light dusting of seasoning. Soft in the center. With tax and tip, just over $12. Score!! Oh, and if you need to use the restroom its thru the kitchen and down to the basement. read more

When one is from Brooklyn, NY and one finds a place that calls itself a deli in the West End of Allentown, it begs to be tried. We sat at a booth and Kathy came by with the menu. I ordered pastrami on an everything bagel and the chicken noodle soup. My better half ordered cream cheese and lox on an everything bagel. Both dishes were delicious, almost like home. The soup had its own twist and had an interesting taste. When I asked Kathy if indeed there was a Sybil, she said that the restaurant is named after Sybaritis. The definition is "...pertaining to or characteristic of a sybarite; characterized by or loving luxury or sensuous pleasure: to wallow in sybaritic splendor." Wow! read more
