I had the avocado toast and plussed it up with the smoked salmon and fried egg. Deliciousness on top of deliciousness! It is a little bit on the pricey side ($16) when you add on the extras but so worth it. The cheese on their did give the open face toast some extra saltiness but delicious nonetheless. Hubby got the bolo which was very good - soft, warm bread with cheese/ ham. It was smaller than we thought it would be. Great find for breakfast! I was staying at the Renaissance so I was looking for a near by breakfast place. The hotel has limited hours for breakfast along with limited food options, so why not explore! I think Covid has impacted hours so Panera and Cheesecake Factory located next to the hotel were not open for breakfast. No problem... I got to check out more of the city. It was a nice walk (about 0.3 miles away) to Sydney. I got to walk right past the Capitol Building, which I loved! As I approached Sydney, I could tell it was super cute. There was inside and outside seating, but I opted for inside right against the window. I ordered the avocado smash with smoked salmon and a hot matcha latte with almond milk (unsweetened). I food came out like a piece of art! So fresh and beautiful! I almost didn't want to eat it, but the dinosaur in my stomach said otherwise! I didn't finish my matcha latte, so I was able to get a to go cup for my walk back. The staff at Sydney is so nice too! read more

An interesting location but I am thankful that I have an alternative to Cafe La France inside the Union Train station. When I walk in, the dining area is clean and feels like you are at a furniture showroom or a gallery. Not that there is anything wrong with Cafe La France, but nice to know that there is a place that I can go to get my better coffee. This place uses Illy's coffee, which I love if you like Italian roast. The the baked goods, salad and sandwich offerings in the grab and go chiller looked well prepared. I opted to have then make a jamon serano and cheese panini. It was prepared with a tangy sauce and pressed on the grill. Worth the wait to get a hot sandwich. The only reason this place does not get 5 stars - I ordered a double espresso with a twist. I get double espresso with no twist on the side but lemon juice mixed in with the espresso. Wow! It was horrible. Ruined a perfectly good espresso. The young lady from La Salle academy who served me obviously did not know what I meant. I had to have her remake it. A learning curve is not that steep nonetheless its hard to get good help these days during COVID. Despite a small hiccup, I will be back again for my coffee and sandwiches. read more

OVERALL: 4.5/5 Sophistication at its finest at this Australia-inspired coffee shop. Their display of pastries and sandwiches was satiating while their decor was akin to an AD magazine (loved). Plenty of Indoor seating available although I opted to get it to go. Service was quick although dismissive at times (I had likely strolled in during peak hours). This is by far one of my favorite cafes in providence. I come to Sydney at least once a week, luckily I live right above it! The atmosphere so cozy, but you can also comfortably work or even hold an interview here! The staff is so wonderful and welcoming, Gary the owner is personalable and always make a effort to say Hi! Most important, the food and coffee is fantastic!! I have gotten the avacado smash (add egg) about 100 times, as well as every other thing on the menu. Can't not rave about this place any more. If you're in the area and looking for a solid coffee on the fly, or somewhere to relax over a delicious meal, this is the spot! Monday and Tuesday's closed! read more

I recently gave Sydney a go for the second time. The first time we had a terrific experience, this time, not so much. We ordered a Vietnamese iced coffee, and the girls behind the counter made them wrong twice...there was barely any condensed milk, and the espresso tasted burnt. We also ordered avocado toast with prosciutto and it came out with salmon instead. The younger girls behind the counter were apologetic but to be honest, weren't as friendly as the previous person we encountered there which I believe was the owner. She was so friendly, kind, and made everything perfectly - which is why this place still gets 3/5 stars for me. Overall Sydney has a great atmosphere, menu and food selection. We came here as part of the local adventure challenge and were delighted to find such a beautiful coffee shop in the middle of the city. I would never have gone here on my own so I'm grateful to have the opportunity. The shop was lovely and it had many watercolors on the walls by local artist that were available to purchase. They were quite beautiful and really added a lot of color to the space. The service was absolutely delightful. The two women who served us were so helpful and charming and friendly that it made our experience even better. I ordered an iced decaf coffee and it really was absolutely delicious. I was told that the decaf that was used there was so good and it is really true. I wanted oat milk and they only had a little so I got oat milk and almond milk. That was fine. We also bought pastries there. I was disappointed to hear that the pastries were not made in house. And actually the Macarons were not even made in the state. They were good but I think they would've been fresher and tastier had they been made locally. But definitely a great place to go get coffee read more

Nothing special, an urban corner shop with no parking and a basic order at the counter menu

First time trying Sydney's and was less than impressed. The service and ambiance were perfectly fine but coffee and food do not compare to other cafe's in PVD. The coffee was okay: I ordered a hot vanilla latte with oatmilk, which was a little burnt, and my partner ordered an iced caramel latte and all the syrup was at the bottom. Pictured, we ordered the classic breakfast sandwich and sweet toast. The sandwich was pretty good but even with inflation, I was shocked that they charge $3 to add one piece of bacon that they broke in half, kind of sad looking on such a large sandwich. The sweet toast would have been better if the ratio to ricotta/compote was equivalent to the thickness of the toast. We did get two cookies and creams macorons which added the third star because they were delicious. Overall, this place was just okay and there are many other options in providence that are worth the $50 we spent here. read more

This spot is actually open. It is super close to the Providence commuter rail station so convenient for a quick bite after a long ride. The open sandwiches looked delicious but I wasn't dining in. I picked up a Brie and pear sandwich with an ice latte. The total came up to around $15. The sandwich was amazing - it was sweet but also a little salty. so many things wrong with my visit. i'm vietnamese, so i was super excited to try the vietnamese coffee. DO NOT GET THE VIETNAMESE COFFEE. it was quite literally the farthest thing from vietnamese coffee i had ever had in my life (not sweet, clumpy, i'm not even sure if they used standard ingredients). i also got the classic breakfast sandwich--not sure if it was just an off day, but it seemed like they were allergic to salt (aka, it had no flavor). i finished the sandwich though, purely because i was hungry, but in essence, it was just croissant, eggs, and a slice of cheese--none of which was seasoned. overall the best thing i had there though ! ADDITIONALLY, possibly the worst part of the meal was the breakfast yogurt bowl i bought. the raspberries were MOLDY, i had to double check with my eyes !! i brought it back and all they told me was "oh sorry about that, raspberries go bad sooo fast!" keep in mind, i was there in the morning for breakfast, so i imagine they just never threw out the food overnight. they gave me a new yogurt bowl (no refund apparently) and i tried it...it wasn't even that good. the yogurt itself was wayyy too thick (almost reminiscent of cream cheese?). on its own, the yogurt was nasty, but i imagine it would taste fine on a bagel. anyways, i bought 3 things from the sydney cafe, and all of it was bad. did i choose the wrong things to order or is it all bad? idk ! but i will not be back. read more

However, you appear to provide lip service to the cleaning of your restaurant, as just 17 days ago Tiffany made the exact same comment as I did about the staff not cleaning the tables, so perhaps you need to make sure your staff are reading your memos. Regards to the pricing, of course you source your products locally, but that doesn't justify high prices on advocado toast and other products. I see that other local Yelpers such McKenzie, Kristen, Marty, Alma, and Thomas, among others similarly feel the quality/value ratio is out of whack. However, I will add that the chocolate brownie I ordered to go, and finally ate a day later was delicious, and reasonably priced at $2.25. read more

I have visited the Sydney in Portsmouth but never the Providence location until today. Got the Blueberry Oatmilk Cold Brew-so tasty. I decided to get the Avocado Smash with Prosciutto-it was big and hearty-I thought it did need salt/pepper/and a little balsamic glaze and once I got home and did that it was PERFECT. Did think $12.45 for the toast was a little on the high side. Girls working were pleasant. Got an ice tea for later and they were happy to make it without ice for me. Parking is not plentiful so not sure how accessible this place would be during a "non pandemic Providence". read more

This was solid. I had the bolo breakfast sandwich and an oat milk flat white. Others in my party had cold brew, the Viennese cappuccino, a chai, avo toast, and other breakfast sandwiches. Interior is adorable and service was friendly. My FW was excellent. I wasn't crazy about my breakfast sandwich even though it was full of my favorite ingredients; I also thought the price was very steep ($9!!) for what I got. Others in the party were happy with their choices, though. I'd come back, but there's other places in PVD that I like more. read more

I wish it was a bit more obvious in their description or website that breakfast was only until 2pm.. literally only came for breakfast and it was 2:15pm... i figured they had it until close since that was 4pm, wrong. So of course at this point it was very slim pickings at the pastries and I'm not a fan of lunch foods. I would have left, but the parking was such a pain we stayed. Large drink and a slice of chocolate bread was $12. I suppose i may find myself attempting to go earlier to try again. I will say it was gorgeous and the workers were smiling and polite! This is an adorable and charming cafe near the train station with delicious food and a delightful staff! We came here after finding out our train to Boston wasn't leaving for about 2 hours. I ordered an Avocado Snash and 2 Chai Lattes. The chai is delicious and a good amount of cinnamon. The Avocado Smash is served on a hearty piece of bread with mashed avocado, coarse salt, feta cheese, sliced tomatoes, micro greens and topped with high quality olive oil. It also splits well if you only want a small snack to tide you over. It is a welcoming environment to eat, drink, catch up with a friend, get some work done, etc. read more

I have such mixed feelings about Sydney. On one hand, it's cute, has fantastic lighting, and is a beautiful spot to bring a friend to or study at. I'm also a fan of the crunchy, toasted croissant breakfast sandwich with sausage and egg - yum! and of course, I think the avocado smash toast with poached egg is quite tasty and savory. Unfortunately, I don't think the food is quite worth the price and level of service you get. I always feel quite unsatisfied after eating the avo smash, and am left wanting more. I wasn't quite pleased with their latte/coffee options either - the $4.50 small green matcha tea latte I ordered was not made very well and had a pasty texture. On another note, waiting for the avo toast and egg takes an INDEFINITE amount of time. I realize poaching an egg is a tedious process, but nobody should ever have to wait longer than 30 minutes for some dressed up toast. Came to Providence for work and on my way to the train station walked by this cafe. I saw Sydney and I just had to go in (I am Australian so I had to lol). Very nice cafe place with communal table on one side, and an assortment of food offering ranging from baked goods (scones of course), breakfast items and salad. I got the avo smash with poached egg (smashed avacado on bagels with poached egg) and a flat white. First yelp check in also scored me a blueberry scone. :) I have to use beautiful to describe that toast. It came with micro greens and sliced raffish and tasted amazing.
