The community table makes a great spot for a group meet up. Plenty of counter, stool and tables too. The ambience is calm with electric. I ordered a breakfast sandwich with applewood smoked bacon, eggs and greens. It took a moment that's because its make fresh with real ingredients. Super cute store, loved the décor and it looks like it's been kept clean and in good shape. Parking was a bit confusing for me, given that I'm from out of town. Parked at a parking meter, put in my credit card and it would only let me put in max time (2 hours). I knew I wasn't going to stay there for 2 hours but there was no other option to decrease the time. But anyway, I digress. I got the avocado smash with poached egg on top and also a small iced latte. Can't say that I was impressed with the iced latte. Super not impressed by the avocado smash. It lacked flavors and the bread was super hard. I could barely cut it in half with a knife. I guess the bread needs to be somewhat hard in order for it to withstand the weight of the avocado spread but it's like break my teeth hard. Overall, I don't think the $14 that I spent that morning was worth my bucks. read more

I went here for the Providence Restaurant week prix fixe menu because they advertised gluten free and dairy free/vegan options. Unfortunately, when I got there they didn't have any gf/df desserts or soups and they weren't offering the side salad. (CLARIFICATION: they have just gf desserts, with dairy). Ordering from the prix fixe menu was a little confusing, I had to request the special menu and the cashier read our options to us. Online there's an option for a side salad, but that wasn't offered to us. They said we were the first customers to ask for the restaurant week menu, so I can forgive the front of house for being unprepared, but management should have at least printed out a copy of the prix fixe menu. I got the half chicken sandwich on a gf bagel without cheese, my friends got the turkey and roast beef. We all agreed our sandwiches were fine but nothing special. They both got the french onion soup and loved it, but hated the macaroon because it "tasted like chemicals." Overall, the grab-and-go options seem good if you have no dietary restrictions and you're on your way to the train station, but don't go out of your way to get here. read more

Sloppy, over rated, and over priced. First the layout is not very effective when crowded. If you order to go don't forget to get your own napkins because they won't give you any, while even Dunkin knows to give your napkins with your order for a lot less. I ordered a cookie and it was crushed at the bottom of the bag, just threw all the food in the bag without any care, the French kiss coffee had a ton of whipped cream and was given to us without a round lid, gave us a regular lid instead on the side for us to lick the whipped cream off before putting the lid on as if a huge chunk of whipped cream is what we came to a cafe for, and of course it was messy, so long story short, it's a MESS to order here. Most importantly, the Vietnamese coffee I ordered was far from good, all I could taste is cinnamon. Tip: Vietnamese coffee is best made with espresso, adding condensed milk is the whole point of this beverage (yours had zero). Please stop selling gentrified products for top dollar to unsuspecting customers. The place has some nice colorful drinks and all but if you will charge top dollar make sure you deliver good service and a decent product. Sloppy! read more

I arrived late last night, in town for a single day for work. I read the reviews and knew I had to come in for breakfast here. The avocado toast looked amazing. Ambiance is adorable. Cute, clean, and modern. College students working on laptops (there's free WiFi). I arrived at 11:37, and breakfast ends at 11:30. So I couldn't get egg on my avocado toast but I got smoked salmon instead and it was definitely delicious. Beautiful presentation, and everything was super fresh. Smoked salmon can be hit or miss, depending on freshness-- it was definitely a hit here. Coffee was great too. There are a lot of options on the menu. Tons of awesome breakfast offerings, and fresh options for lunch as well. There's also a cooler where fresh items are already prepared if you're in a rush and need a grab-and-go. Overall, food and coffee was fantastic. I did feel that service could have been a bit more friendly, though. read more

This cute little cafe is a great place to stop and get brunch with others. I ordered the avocado smash with smoked salmon. It was quite good, however, there was too much avocado on the toast for my liking. The mix of cheese and citrus-y flavor was a good balance, and the toast was the perfect amount of crunchy and chewy. Both of my parents enjoyed their meals as well. I particularly liked my moms ricotta toast with fruit preserves. It was refreshing and quite simple. I came here a couple of times when I first moved to the city since it is so close to the train station. This is a great spot to get work done or eat food. Sometimes the kitchen takes a long time to get breakfast orders out, but the staff seems nice. Their coffee tastes metallic, which is kind of sad for any cafe but especially one that presents itself as a bit upscale. I think they use illy coffee. read more

I have been meaning to try this place for quite some time. Today I finally managed to get here and try their coffee and food. I was not disappointed. With all of the current restrictions due to quarantine, I wasn't sure if they would be open. To my surprise they were. My BF and I got their Iced Maple Bourbon Latte as well as their Lavender Agave Latte. Both were delicious. We also ordered a breakfast sandwich that was on a savory scone. It was delicious and fresh and it was a nice change from some of the other lackluster breakfast sandwiches in the area. This one was savory, and had plenty of fresh made eggs on top and the bacon was thick cut and not the sad microwave bacon you so often find these days. My friend, Jacque C., and I went to visit my good friend Arielle on a snowy Wednesday morning, and headed over to Sydney Providence for breakfast together. This place IS walking distance from the main transportation hub of buses, but in the snow, and with our luggage, Jacque and I were grateful that Arielle offered us a ride. Parking was a bit difficult, but we managed to find a meter two blocks away. It was pretty quiet at 9 in the morning, and we had our pick of tables. This place is, in the words of Outkast, so fresh and so clean clean. Bright, beautiful interior with tiny splashes of muted color and succulents on the table. An Instagrammer's dream, y'all. Speaking of Instagram, make sure to check out their feed at @sydneypvd. In fact, that's how I found this place when planning our trip out there. I was all set to order their limited edition s'mores hot chocolate, but the woman at the register, Tracy, told me they were out of marshmallows (noooooo!). No matter, I switched to a matcha latter and all was right in the universe. Here's what we got: brekkie bowl - 7.95 matcha latte (small) - 4.05 avocado toast w/ smoked salmon 11.50 matcha latte w/ coconut milk - 4.05 + .65 extra breakfast sandwich - 6.05 chai latte (small) - 3.85 three assorted pastries The brekkie bowl (fresh lemon curd, berries, granola, Greek yogurt, honey) was super refreshing and just delicious. If I had no shame, I totally would have licked the bowl clean. The latte was warm, slightly frothy and just the perfect way to banish the cold weather. One interaction, though, made us all laugh. As we were preparing to take photos of our food, Jacque noticed the distress on my face when I saw that our pastries came on a PAPER plate. She asked Tracy if she could get a different plate and Tracy just smiled knowingly, quickly swapping the paper one with some Heath ceramics level realness. Tracy at Sydney Providence knows what's up. I'm not sure when I'll be in Providence again, but I'm crossing my fingers that a Sydney Oakland pops up in the meantime. read more

I've been wanting to try this Cafe for a year now and have never really found myself in the area. Today we were nearby and had to stop in. My husband stayed with the car because there were no spots close by. I ordered a peppermint bark mocha and a Carmel latte for my husband. The peppermint bark mocha was amazing!! Super great! My husband not totally impressed, disappointed at the lack of caramel. Great spot for brunch! Sydney's interior is beautiful and so is the food! And it tastes just as good as it looks. My sister and I stumbled across this place pretty late in the afternoon but they still had avocado toasts available (but no poached eggs..). We really enjoyed our avocado toasts and iced lattes. I had a wonderful first experience and tried to return but haven't been able to because street parking seems non-existent around the store. And they close pretty early most days. It's a bold move bringing trendy menu items like $7 toast, microgreens, and matcha lattes to a state where there's one Dunkin Donuts every 10 square miles (real data). But this Aussie-inspired cafe is a good addition to the PVD cafe scene! You can tell from the pictures of the menu that the prices are pretty high for Providence, but most of the ingredients are locally sourced, so it's a tradeoff. They serve Illy espresso, and the woman working at the counter seemed really knowledgable and happy to talk about the sourcing of the beans, etc. I had a sticky bun and a latte (~$8 in total), and both were good! They offered to warm up the sticky bun and it blew my mind. I'm never settling for a room temperature pastry again. Small espresso drinks come with 2 shots of espresso! The storefront is pretty subtle and on a side street, so you wouldn't necessarily walk past and notice the shop unless you are looking for it. Despite the low profile, the location is very convenient to the train station, mall, Kennedy Plaza, and downtown! The atmosphere inside the shop is really clean and nice, with lots of natural light, chill music, etc. So I would definitely come back to hang out and get some work done. But given the steep prices it will probably be an occasional treat! If you're looking for a fast, affordable place to get caffeine and breakfast, you're probably better off going to Cafe La France inside the train station. But for an Instagrammable snack/meal, Sydney is one of your best bets in Providence! read more

So, the food is beautiful. If you spend ten seconds looking at the pictures, that alone should convince you to come and eat. But after the first couple of times I came, I was reluctant to return because of the high price point. I'm not going lie: $19 for smashed avocado on toast (with a slice of smoked salmon) and a hot chocolate seemed a little steep. Definitely delicious, but these are New York prices and I'm on a Rhode Island budget. However, after I found out whyyyy the price point is so high, I have to say it's for all the right reasons. With the exception of maybe five ingredients, everything is locally farmed and sourced (RI and New England): jam, honey, bread, cheese, greens, tomatoes, chicken, eggs, etc. They serve a single-origin cold brew from Guatamala, the coffee they make is Illy coffee, and they even sent their baristas to training in NYC. All of their tea is loose-leaf and they bag it themselves. The pastries are made in-house--the employees are JWU students and graduates--and this is a young company with fresh ideas, so much drive, and a dedication to work hard and be innovative. I'm sad the hot chocolate is gone (for now!), but I look forward to the other surprises they plan to unveil! read more

This was a cute place with friendly servers. They had water you can grab for free from a jug or buy bottled. They also do brunch only on the weekends till 3. I got iced chai latte with hazelnut, chocolate croissant. The croissant was yummy, but while the latte was delicious, it wasn't strong enough. They have no parking, so street parking was a pain. There's paid parking the next street over, but it's $11 for half an hour, so just circle around and you'll find a place to park. read more

I first tried Sydney a few months ago and have since been a regular customer. My favorite thing about this place is the interior decor- it's very modern and pleasant. It's a great atmosphere that sets it apart from other coffee shops in the area. My favorite thing to get is the Vietnamese Iced Coffee. I've tried a lot of Vietnamese ice coffee, but the one made at Sydney stands out in that it is pressed and is topped with cinnamon. I've also had the avocado smash with salmon, which was great as well. The staff are very nice, polite people. The owner Jordan was kind enough to make a generous bakery donation to a charity fundraiser I hosted recently. It's great to see local businesses get involved in the community. I love the stylish, unpretentious look of Sydney. They have a nice variety of seating from bar top, to tables for 3-5, and a long community table that I saw several people sit at with their laptops and work. I wasn't crazy about the turkey sandwich I got. The bread was really rich and delicious but it was a dryer sandwich. An Australian-inspired independant cafe, Sydney is a great addition to the State House/Amtrak area! The space is clean and bright, although a bit corporate and sterile. They have an on-site kitchen that serves breakfast and lunch, but it does close soon after lunch. If you come by after 2pm, you'll have to make your selections from the cold case. Really good sandwiches and pastries. The roasted turkey sandwich (pressed) was very tasty, although it was still cold in the middle as it came out of the cold case. The bread pudding (pear and almond) was also very tasty. They use Illy coffee, which is not bad, but is not great either. I can walk down the street to The Cheesecake Factory and get Illy. I would love to see them use start using some locally roasted beans, or bring some West Coast roasters' beans in. That would make this pretty cafe a walking-distance source of beans for me. read more

Divine first visit in this place!! The girls behind the counter were incredibly helpful and l Had Vietnamese iced coffee and my boyfriend a smoothie. Both were great! We split a roast beef sandwich which was so good ( girls pressed it for us) and then a chocolate chip cookie that was phenomenal ( I am an choc chip Cookie addict ). When we came in I happened to mentioned that it happened to be our 3 year anniversary, so as we were eating the pastry chef and one of the girls brought out heart shaped cookies ( that were delicious) to wish us happy anniversary !!!
