Quiet, clean space with healthy choices for lunch or fancy coffees and teas. Close to the Capitol and train station. Friendly staff. Order at the counter and wait to be called.

Sydney has two locations in Providence; having been to both, I can thoroughly recommend the location on Exchange St over the Thayer St. Exchange St location is smaller, but it's also the original! It's inviting and very bright - perfect for walking in on your way to or from the train station. I had a hot vanilla latte and a chocolate croissant - would recommend the latte! I expected there to be a bit more chocolate in my croissant.

The food and the coffee was the best I've ever had! The staff was also super friendly! I would definitely recommend!!

I'm a frequent visitor here. Although parking isn't ideal, it's conveniently located next to the train station, and a short walk from providence place mall and Kennedy plaza. There is indoor seating and some outdoor seating in the warmer weather. Staff is always super nice and personable. Love that they have an after dark menu! Pastries are also a favorite. In addition to their good beverages, they also have some functional seltzers and additional drinks available. Pretty good grab and go selection too.

Highly recommend Sydney! I got the avocado toast with an egg and was surprised at how large the portions are, and it came with Saffron. The photo doesn't do it justice! Also got an iced chai with a shot of espresso which tasted great. The barista was super nice and I love the cafe interior

Once again, thanks to fellow-Yelpers, I found this fantastic, clean n quiet coffee shop - 2 minutes from train station (due to amtrak delay). Great coffee and bakery items!

I've been to Sydney Providence multiple times since my first time and have been collecting points with every purchase. With Square Loyalty, I am earning 1 point for every $1 spent after checking-in in store or online and pay. After earning 150 Points, I can redeem a reward for 100% off entire sale (up to $25.00 off). In mid-September, I went to Sydney Providence back to back to study for an upcoming exam. It was really nice, calm, quiet, and well lit for studying. I ordered a large ice unsweetened matcha latte with whole milk (Total $6.86 with service fee, city tax, and state tax). The next day, I came back to study and ordered a large iced blueberry honey matcha latte (Total $7.42). Out of all the drinks I've had, the sweetened with sugar cane matcha latte is the best. Early October, I was craving Sydney Providence and ordered my original order, large ice sweetened with sugar cane matcha latte. Most recently, I came back to have a large Madeline Cider Latte (Total $7.80). This tasted like fall in a cup. The apple cider was very good.

Absolutely loved this coffee shop! I can't believe I didn't know of its existence until lately! Their macarons are stellar, and their matcha lavender green tea is to die for!! My fiancé also enjoyed their lattes, which I will try next time im at Sydney's!

This place is very understaffed. The wait for latte is super long, even though the barista is already super busy and fast. She still cannot managed it by herself. Because she was alone. Sometimes there's two people, but still super busy. If you want to grab a coffee before jump on the train, unless you have 20 minutes to spare don't do that. And the 20 minutes is only for one latte. The coffee, matcha, and food were good. But waited like 40 minutes for two sandwiches and two drinks. Macaroons were terrible, very chewy. Great location. I hope they hire more people in the future.

    Next to my coffee

I usually love their breakfest and lunch sandwiches. They're a little pricey, but good. BUT Don't ever get a salad from here.My salad ended up coming to seventeen dollars because I added chicken salad to it.And the salad looks like a side salad with like a tablespoon of chicken salad Ridiculous. It was very fresh!

Stopped by Sydney in Providence and I'm so glad we did. The coffee was delicious--smooth and just the right pick-me-up. I got the bacon and egg on a croissant and it was absolutely perfect: flaky, buttery, and packed with flavor. I took a bite of my boyfriend's chicken salad sandwich too, and it was so juicy and tasty I ended up taking the other half for myself! Cute spot with great food--I'll definitely be back.

Such a great coffee spot! I had the chai latte with lavender and it was seriously one of the best I've ever had -- super smooth and perfectly balanced. My wife got the vanilla latte and loved it too. We also tried the breakfast sandwich and the CSI sandwich -- both were amazing. Fresh, flavorful, and made with care. The space is bright, welcoming, and has a really relaxed vibe. Easily one of our new favorite spots in Providence. Highly recommend!

Ask the Community - Sydney Providence

Are they closed? Since the pandemic they haven't opened, do you know if they will remain closed?

Hi Karliam, Sydney has reopened with reduced hours. We are open Tuesday through Sunday from 8 am 2 pm with our breakfast menu. We hope to see you soon.

    Do they have high chairs?

    Yes we do!

    Is this the old Quay?

Hi, Quay is our sister restaurant and both locations are now open. Sydney is located on Exchange Street in the ground floor of the Blue Cross building and Quay is located approximately 150 feet southwest on the river walk.

It has a ton of Japanese treats in the fridge as well as shelves. They also have a bar and sell wine and fun cocktails. They brew Bolt coffee (a local brewer and coffee shop) and make a truly exceptional cappuccino. Like, really really good third wave style espresso drinks that I've not found at other shops in Providence so far (two week visit). I was initially worried their iced strawberry matcha latte might be too sweet, but that was fortunately not at all the case! It was balanced and mild. Just be sure to stir it up! They also have some pastries and baked goods from Seven Stars Bakery, and we thoroughly enjoyed a small lemon cake. We'll likely be back in our last few days in town because we became quick fans!

I like the branding, brightness of the cafe, and the fact that there's a decent amount of seating. I got the Iced French Vanilla Espresso Latte + Espresso Teddy which was well-made, bold, and enjoyable. I think the Espresso Teddy is actually made with cold brew and not espresso which I expected given the name and would have preferred. Nonetheless, I did enjoy the slow melt and the boost of caffeine I got as I kept sipping. And it's super cute! The Iced Mont Blanc was also a good try; the sweet orange flavor was subtle and surprisingly enjoyable adding a bright taste to each sip. If I'm ever back in Providence, I would totally come back and maybe try their matcha drinks.

The first time I came, it was a rainy weekday and this time it was a sunny weekend, so I was expecting an even larger crowd; and my prediction was correct. The line was just out the door but because of their awesome staff, the line was moving very quickly. While we waited in line, we could watch them making pastries through the glass, a couple feet in front of us. I admired that level of transparency. When we were third in line, the kindest lady asked us whether we'd be eating in or taking out and she took down our name to help us find a table when it came time. She did the same for the rest of the people in line. She also gave us some recommendations, including the cinnamon bun - apparently they're so good kids cry when they sell out. I didn't intend to order anything with my drink, but I couldn't get the cinnamon bun out of my head so I ordered it along with my iced spiced chai latte. The hen (I think it's their logo) on the aprons of the employees are super cute. We did secure a table. The tables are close together to maximize the number of people who can sit down but I didn't mind. I love their art all around, mostly of birds which I am obsessed with. I love that they have a lot of natural lighting coming through their tall windows. I also like the navy blue and white theme they have going on. The chai latte was perfect. It was the right color (a dark tan), meaning the ratio of tea and milk was good and I could taste a lot of the spices. The cinnamon bun blew my expectations away. The second my teeth made. contact with the icing, it was a magical feeling. I couldn't quite put my finger on what it tasted like, but the closest I got was dulce de leche. It is truly unlike any other cinnamon bun I have ever had. The dough is soft and there is a good amount of cinnamon. It's also $4 which is not bad. I had a bite of their canelé, which apparently requires a lot of work to make. It was very moist, with a great caramelized finish. I am super excited to try their new weekend dinner menu, but also more of their all day menu items.

Inquiring minds want to know and I want to see what's buzzin' so I found a parking across the street and headed towards the Brown Bee. The second I walked in, I knew I found a hidden gem in Providence. The baked goods look like a true professional baked them. Ever grab a tray of croissants from Costco? I'm sure those bakers question their life. These baked goods look like the bakers put time and true methods to achieve the level of a quality baked goods. Take for instance their pain au chocolat. Simple, yet elegant with a classic golden hue. Brown Bee, I commend you on your mad skills. My wife and I stopped in for coffee. I see a great line up of coffee choices: Halva Latte, Pistachio Latte and a Bee Latte made with cayenne. That sounds a little too on the wild side so I ordered two Spanish lattes. Made with condensed milk, smoked chocolate and a sprinkle of sea salt, this is perfect for a cloudy afternoon. I also order a cookie to split between us, a Brookie. The lattes were perfection. The sweetness from the condensed milk and the smoked chocolate gave the drink a nice balanced flavor. The Brookie? Fudgy, chewy and the right amount of chocolate made this an afternoon delight. There is a parking lot in the back, but I was not sure if it was for the café or apartments downstairs, so I just found street parking nearby. The inside gave me Spaniard vibes because of the cream, smooth walls and dark wooden accents. The following were the two things that instantly caught my attention when I walked in: They have merchandise on display for sale and it seems like high quality material and they had a vehicle made of croissants on display, maybe about 1.5 ft x 1 ft x 6 inches. They have their pastries on display which helps visualize what you're getting before buying it. They are unique and big in size. Their drink menu is good and includes a mix of teas (including matcha) and coffee. I went with the bee latte which was supposed to have honey, cardamom, and cayenne. I was interested in seeing how sweet, herbal/minty, and spicy would taste together. I was also [easily] self-convinced into getting a Za'atar croissant. After our order came out, we walked outside and sat at their patio area which has about 5-6 tables enough for two people each. The latte was good. I appreciated how it was not sweet, but I did think the cardamom was too subtle. It seemed like the cayenne was powder just sprinkled on top and I might've inhaled half of it on my first sip, so I was dying a bit. The Za'atar croissant was given to us in a brown paper box with the outside of their building drawn onto it. Since we asked for it toasted, it was warm and extra crispy/flaky on top. It was flat (about 1 inch thick) and about 6 inches in diameter, so big enough to share if you're just interested in a light snack. The inside of every swirl was packed with olive oil, middle eastern herbs, and lots of sesame seeds. Although it may take away from the traditional flavors and way of eating it, I wish it came with something to dip it into like whipped cream cheese or smashed olives. Nonetheless, it was delicious. On weekends, they have a laptop free policy which I think it good to allow for more people to enjoy, rather than people taking up tables for a while to do work.
