Had a wonderful evening here with a group of nine. Service was great the food was delicious. We particularly loved the fried oysters and the duck cassoulet. I had the fried pork as my main which is always delicious. My husband had the beef cheeks which he loved. My friends had the amberjack special and duck and all were delighted. Most of us ordered specialty cocktails, and when I asked to return mine for something else the waiter was completely okay with it. There were several special requests and all were accommodated. I also specifically noted and appreciated the team service as when someone other than our main server dropped food or drinks at our table, if we needed something else (more drinks) it was handled by that person not "oh I'm not your waiter" or "I'll tell your waiter". I absolutely love this restaurant, but after last night I will not return. They took the Brussels Sprout salad off the menu. It's their best dish. When I asked out server she rudely said "what ever is on the menu is all we got". I said it was my favorite dish and she repeated the same. She was rushing us even tho the restaurant was empty and nobody waiting. Our red wine was freezing. When we asked her she returned "that's just how we do it here". Im a local. I know this place. The food we ordered was very small portions and not that tasty. And extremely expensive. I know it's a pandemic, but we weren't treated very warmly. It's really a shame we had this experience. The staff and servers were incredibly helpful. Took pitta on two starving souls with out a reservation and managed to get us seated quickly when it was fairly packed! Came here for my bday dinner, no reservations, luckily got a table but i don't recommend trying your luck by doing the same. The place was packed, so definitely call ahead and have a table reserved. For the second time that day, i was offered to be taken out to a restaurant of my choice, and again i chose to not go with one of my favorites, but rather a new spot i had been eyeing for a while and, alas! The entrance is via a dark passage off of Chartres St that leads immediately into a courtyard (which i did not explore). Just to the left, is where the hostess met us and the experience began. After informing her we did not make reservations, we were told they were busy (which they were) and that it might be a fifteen minute wait for a table outside. So we put the name in and went to the bar for a couple drinks while we waited. The cocktails were delicious, its always extra good when its free as well. After about a solid fifteen minutes, the hostess came to us and said they were prepping a table inside for us, awesomeness, because we really didn't want to sit outside, it was one of those humid New Orleans nights we're so famous for, but we would have taken whatever we could have gotten. I ordered the braised beef cheeks and my date went with a soup and salad. Let me tell you, those beef cheeks were out of this world. I was super impressed with everything about this restaurant from the ambiance (although it was a bit too dimly lit), the service, and obviously the food. The beef cheeks came on a bed of potato puree, laced with sweet onions, field peas, and natural jus. It was one of the best dishes i think I've ever eaten. I know this because we happened to run into the chef outside as we were leaving and i told him that very same statement. My date was really impressed with her soup which was a white bean puree with some sort of bacon flavored-something--can't-remember, and the roasted pear, smoked onion and arugula salad i also tried and was just nodding at its sapidity. She couldn't finish the salad, so i willingly obliged. I could see myself ordering that salad for takeout a lot. We just did not have room for dessert, but once our server caught wind it was my birthday, he offered us these delicious shots. I forget the ingredients but it was a creme consistency, with cacao and mint flavor. Definitely a one-shooter shot, not something i could do all night long, but it was perfect for a dessert substitute; and it was on the house. I'm so happy to have experienced this place, it's not often i treat myself to the spoils of the French Quarter fine dining. I also want to thank and appreciate the manager going around to each table ensuring everything was going well and everyone was enjoying their experience. Great job! My girlfriend and I decided to go to this restaurant on our first night in New Orleans and it was an excellent choice! We walk through the French quarter looking for the restaurant and we almost missed it. The front of the place is really small, and we had to go down through a narrow alleyway to reach the entrance to the place. Once we were at the door we only had to wait a handful of minutes, then we were quickley seated. The place has a nice cozy feel, and the waiters were very attentive. We ended up ordering the chicken liver crostini, the roasted pork shoulder, and the beef cheeks. My girlfriend and I thoroughly enjoyed the chicken liver crostini with dandelion greens, this was probably one of her favorite dishes the entire trip, probably tied with char grilled oysters. I found the pork shoulder to be a little boring, but it satisfied me none-the-less. And my girlfriend found her beef cheeks dish to be absolutely delicious. Cute little gastropub with outdoor seating and great for a date night. I got the rose and it was super crisp and light! I choose the 3 course prix fixe menu and got the deviled eggs for my starter, the shrimp and grits for the entree and the chocolate pot de creme. The deviled eggs were so creamy and melted in my mouth and the bacon bites were an excellent addition. The shrimp and grits were delicious and the shrimp was so succulent and the tomato-basil brood and caramelized onions really rounded out the dish. We started with the cornbread and, don't tell my grandma, but it was just the best. The cayenne butter made it. Also had a Moscow mule. They use fresh ginger and you can certainly taste the difference. We wanted the fish of the day (trout) but also wanted to try the LA crawfish and Tasso, and our server said the kitchen could simply split the servings for us to share. Such a nice accommodation! While the menu is full of exciting options, we tried the chicken sandwich, pork chops, burgers, pork belly and the meat and cheese plate. The favorite of the group was tough to determine but the pork chop won out just barely. The burger is worth trying as it is full of flavor and certainly more than a typical burger. The fried chicken sandwich is a joy and full of wonderful spices separating it from a more typical offering. Everyone also enjoyed the fries and appetizers. Basically, you can't go wrong. The only complaint we had was that there was a bit too much salt on everything so you might ask for reduced salt especially on the fries and flavor to taste yourself. The location is small so make a reservation. You can sit outside in cooler months and inside if the heat or humidity is too much. We sat inside and found it to be a bit loud but certainly better than the humidity there the day we visited. Staff is relaxed and very friendly and willing to answer an array of questions. The atmosphere drew me in immediately. It's dim, charming, and romantic. Service was friendly. However, the food was not quite what I expected. The bolognese was decent. The pasta tasted hand made, so that was a plus. But something about the execution made the dish coarse-tasting (in the style of the food, not the texture). The service was excellent and the drinks were top notch. It was not classic New Orleans dining in that there were no white tablecloths and formally attired waiters. Still, they maintained what is important, prompt service without pressing the diner. The food was, as I mentioned excellent which was a bonus because we really wanted to try the cocktails. The cocktails were intensely flavored and well balanced. They avoided pushing too far to the sweet side. If you don't drink alcohol, they have an excellent house-prepared ginger ale. I'm not sure about the decor because it was so dim I was holding the tealight to read the menu. I do suggest reservations if you can get them as it isn't a large venue. read more

Ordered the Waygu beef belly to start before moving onto the pork shoulder entree. Beef belly just melted and that onion cake, damn. Pork shoulder had an awesome flavor and was served as two fried cakes. Would definitely order both again. Wife had the shrimp pirloo and really enjoyed it. Great Food and Nice Crowd We ate dinner at Sylvain on a weeknight and really enjoyed it. The food is great, as is the service. We ordered the Heritage Pork and the Quail, both cooked perfectly. It took a long time for the food to come to the table, and we learned why once the waitress notified us our ticket had been lost. They remedied the situation quickly, bringing us complimentary second courses while we waited for the entrees. The interior decor is worth looking at. If you're a first-time visitor make sure you use the alley and courtyard to enter, as the door on the street isn't the actual entrance. They have seating in the courtyard as well. A great find. Hubs and I visited Sylvain for breakfast a few months ago. It is a shame we had not visited sooner. The customer service was 5 star and food was just powerfully good! If I was rating this purely based on drinks and atmosphere, I'd give it 5 stars. For purely food, I'd be somewhere between 3 and 4. We sat on the alley-patio which was fun. The Moscow Mule was easily the best I've ever had. Not hard to mess up, but theirs was perfect. We started with the Brussels Sprout Salad, soup of the day and the Pear Salad. The Pear Salad was the only thing that stood out - it was delicious. I ordered the Hanger Steak. The sides with it made the dish. Brussels Sprouts, black beans and corn were great, but the actual steak was average. I still cleaned my plate though. Dessert was great - we had the chocolate pudding thing and sorbet. First, the high points: My cocktail (ironically called the No Fun) was delightful, the space was adorable, and our entrees were amazing. The Beef Cheeks dish that came so highly recommended in many reviews didn't disappoint and the daily Mahi Mahi special hit all the right notes. The entrees really saved the day for us. My advice is (and the foodie in me can't believe I'm about to suggest this) to skip the starters and salads courses and head straight to the main course. The lows were absolutely miserable. The portions in our cheese plate were generous, but were accompanied by a cherry compote that was unpleasant. The alcohol wasn't cooked out of the sauce, leaving it runny with a funny aftertaste. We had a cauliflower and romanesco salad that could only be described as lazy. Irregularly chopped (this went way past rustic), it somehow managed to be both over dressed and under seasoned, served we couldn't tell if it was meant to be al dente or raw. It's clear it wasn't tossed before being plated (all the nuts in the dish were on the bottom of the plate) and it was blanketed with shredded cheese, as if they knew it was embarrassing enough to be hidden. We really should have sent it back. But the truly worst part of it all was the music played in the restaurant. My hubby is a music lover of all kinds and even he was turned off. I don't have the words to describe how terrible it was. Imagine dischordant, experimental, hard core music playing while you're trying to enjoy your meal. It felt like we were being screamed at during the meal. We would have stayed for dessert if it weren't for the music. It was that bad. Look, y'all, we're not asking for Muzak here, but something a bit more crowd friendly would be appropriate for fifty dollars per person. We've been to New Orleans over a dozen times, and this is about as close as we've gotten to a "bad" experience with a restaurant. Considering how cutthroat the competition is out there, you might consider a few tweaks. read more
