I got the chicken teriyaki and it tasted like airplane food. My girlfriends sushi was very bad too. Don't eat here.

This is a great place to come if you live in the area or are visiting. It is always crowded (good sign), so make sure you leave enough time for dinner. They have a good selection of sushi, but I always get the sushi deluxe which comes with a california roll and a few pieces of nigiri. We had the yellowtail Serrano (delicious!), the BBQ Squid (best I've ever had), Ocean Maki (sweet with the honey wasabi and so yummy!), and the Chasu ramen (hearty broth with lots of fixings!). Great sushi. A bit over priced but definitely the best for that area

Maybe we just had a bad day, based on the high reviews left by others. The decorating is modern and it plays funky fun music. The miso soup, which I typically love almost anywhere, had an unpleasant after taste and wasn't very warm. I didn't finish it. Edamame were fine, but our seaweed salad was overly oily. My partner and I split the sushi and sashimi combo. I found the sashimi way to cold, and it required a fair amount of time to warm up before it started to be flavorful. The fish (on a Sunday) was none too fresh and the vinegar was a bit harsher than typical mirin. All in all, decidedly underwhelming. I'd skip in the future. read more

Symphony is the best sushi I've ever had. That being said, I have not been to very many sushi establishments. Pros included the crisp atmosphere, the helpful wait staff, and the deliciousness of the Crazy Maki. Con was the Salmon in the Philadelphia Maki, which was more of a rubbery clay than anything else- nothing a little (or a lot) of Wasabi couldn't cover up. read more

I'll have to try this place again, because everyone looked like they had yummy food around us. A friend and I went really close to closing, so we just ordered some cold stuff. The tempura udon definitely looks delicious though. Overall, the prices were okay. A bit on the steep side for what we ordered, but some menu items looked like real steals. Really good sushi for a good price! I've been here multiple times and have always been satisfied with the meal I get for the price I pay. The only drawback is that they are always rushing you - asking if you are ready to order or if you are done eating, etc. They seem really focused on serving you and then getting you out, even if they aren't particularly busy. In that sense it isn't the most welcoming, however, if you are going for a quick lunch break then it is perfect! Just depends on what you are looking for. read more

Symphony sushi is well worth the trip into the city. Friendly service nice roomy tables and some very creative dishes. Started with the fried calamari with salt and pepper. Nice spice level with some kickin' jalapeno slices! The chefs special app was also great. A beef and onion Bento box lunch special was very nice. The spicy tuna tempura roll was a nice surprise and my favorite crazy maki was spot on. All and all a good experience. Never had any problem parking despite being on street. Went for dinner before the concert. It was busy but not overly crowded, and a very nice space. There were three of us and we split the Snow Maki, the Christmas Maki and a Sushi-Sashimi plate. The waitress suggested we add the Ocean Maki and I'm glad we did, perfect amount for three people. The Snow Maki was on of the best rolls I've ever had! The combination of the crunchy tempura shrimp with the crab was prefect. The tuna sashimi was also excellent, fresh clean taste and perfect texture. And the bills was very reasonable for the amount of sushi we consumed. I will definitely go there again when I'm heading to the Symphony! read more

I desperately want to give a higher rating but I feel really conflicted over a few things. Location wise - it's very convenient. Close to the schools, same block as Symphony Hall, close to public transportation. Parking can be hard though. Food wise and service - it's always a hit or miss. I love the crab cake but I've had it once where it was too salty. But it'll always be my favorite. I love the ginger clam soup but don't order it if you don't like ginger a lot. I love the fashion and double match maki. For the waitresses, I feel like their service depends on their mood. Sometimes they're amazing, sometimes they want to kill someone and you can see it on their faces. I feel the manager can moderate more but a lot of things are out of their control, considering a lot of students want an in-and-out meal and looks to symphony sushi almost like a cafe. Then there are the older people who wants a good Japanese dinner right before their 8pm concerts. I've seen the place get insanely packed and it's just hard to cater to everyone. I almost feel bad for the workers, maybe if they hired more people or new people, everyone would be happier. Also, I personally wish the place was brighter inside. I would go again just for the cheap and quick sushi and good alcohol selection. read more

PROS: convenient location, big tasty cuts of salmon sashimi, really delicious fire and dragon maki, calamari, and (fried) oyster katsu. CONS: jazz muzak in the background, mostly blah sashimi, and inconsistent service. My friends all really like Symphony Sushi, so I find myself eating here more often than I would necessarily choose to. Sometimes the waitstaff is helpful. I was here on a date once with someone who had never eaten sushi, and the waitress put a lot of care into describing the food and helping him pick. Other times though, the service has been really awkward. For example, once, a waitress who had been really negligent to our table actually changed the tip my friend gave her! Another time, three friends and I waited fifteen minutes to be seated at one of three open tables that just needed to be wiped down because the "waitresses were really busy." So, just really wildly bad service here sometimes, but other times, it's really nice. read more

This place is great for cheap sushi. Their pick-up is also nice and fast so I never have to wait very long. It's in a great location and their specialty rolls are pretty good, my favorite being the Symphony or the Mexican rolls. The philly roll is my only complaint- I do not like the taste of the salmon in it! It seems much too salty for smoked salmon...just an opinion. I can't believe i found something -better than- Teriyaki House. If you're already surprised that I said -that- of all things, well, y'see... Teriyaki House used to be pretty freaking awesome to me. I'm saying this because I live ridiculously close to it, and was never aware of any other close-by sushi places...UNTIL my boyfriend and I discovered Symphony Sushi. Here's why I have 5 stars, as a short version: 1) incredible service, but mind you, it was a VERY slow night (just the other Wednesday when the weather was doing its crazy rain+snow thing) 2) INCREDIBLE food 3) equally incredible sushi Now let's go play by play, shall we? 1) Service: incredible. The waitress that served us was not only hilarious, but SO nice. My boyfriend had ordered the spicy beef noodle soup, and I the tekka don (we also ordered two rolls; I'll get into that in a bit). When she had served up his soup, she was about to take my miso soup bowl away when she said "oh! Actually, I'll leave this here in case you want to share! :D" which I found so sweet. Really. What service does that? Haha. Loooove it. Not to mention, when my boyfriend started to just serve me a little bit of his soup into my miso bowl (I only asked for enough for a taste, really), she noticed and came over. "Here, this'll be easier!" She takes a fork and his serving spoon, and starts to load the miso bowl with soup. We were all laughing since it was hilarious that she just kept going and going...oh boy. Two meals in one for me, really ;] 2) My tekka don? FABULOUS. I've been to many...and I mean MANY...sushi places. I can't believe for the price, how much FOOD I god! The rice was sushi rice with tasty sesame seeds, decorated with huge CHUNKS of tuna (the cuts were amazing by the way; so clean, so fresh, so full of flavour!), and THEN with a whole several mouthfuls of watercress, and a freaking real flower to boot on top of that. Sheesh! Gorgeous presentation, and tasty meal to boot. I was -stuffed- like you just don't know, and I had barely gotten through half of my meal. All of that for 14.95...! My boyfriend's spicy beef noodle soup was also fabulous. Man, I can't believe how huge the PORTiONS are! I tried it myself, and I'd say the spiciness of it is about a 2/10, which I personally find just -right- because the spice complemented the soup as a flavour, rather than a measure of heat. 3) The sushi. Oh my word. We got spicy yellowfin maki as well as a spider roll. Let me tell you: I never have liked spider rolls that I've discovered on the east coast, as they put lettuce into them. Symphony Sushi also does it, but they don't overkill on it (or let it get soggy) as, say, Teriyaki House does. Gorgeous presentation once again, and mouth-wateringly delicious! Just the same for the spicy yellowfin maki. Ohhhhh I can still almost taste it. That's about it! I've never felt compelled to write much about sushi places around my area...but I definitely adore Symphony Sushi. Those knocking off stars for the service? I think they should mostly be discluded from your interest in this place. Any restaurant can be busy, or overworked, and yes...service should always be nice to customers, but man, running a place like that? I'm not surprised if sometimes they get a bit nippy ;) I mean, we've done take-out and they're -much- less cordial, but still...to me, the food is all that counts! P.S. I'm basing this review strictly on the chicken teriyaki bento box I got as a lunch special twice in the past month. It was delicious and I love how many options they give. I could do without the dressing on the salad and I'm not a fan of miso soup but the chicken was all white meat, the sauce not to spicy, and the beef gyoza taste so good I could probably eat a whole order on my own. Plus the pieces of fruit are nice as a dessert. All for 8 bucks, it's a good deal and a nice change from a lot of the other food in the area. read more

I really like Symphony Sushi. I think it's really good. My favorite roll is definitely the Spicy Tuna Tempura Roll (Yummy!). I'm originally from LA so I'm kinda spoiled sushi wise.. but for Boston this is definitely the best place I have found so far. I definitely recommend going here. They have pretty affordable lunch specials which is nice... and they have another location (I think it is called Fins Sushi) and Fins delivers NOT Symphony Sushi. I've been here more times than I can count. Fish is always fresh and of great quality's is quick and the waitresses there are nice enough to get the job done. I usually get the Spicy Tuna or Spicy Salmon ($6), and what they do that I've never heard of anywhere else is they smash it up and add bits of tempura and serve it warm. The Eastern Maki ($9), Crazy Maki ($7) , and Symphony Roll ($6) are my other favorites as well. When I've had a rough day I indulge with the Lobster Roll which is basically a California roll covered with chunks of real lobster drenched in spicy mayo. A real winner! The salmon entree is always perfectly cooked, and the appetizer calamari is great too. Shrimp tempura is amazing as well. Great batter! Don't bother with the Philadelphia Maki...something is off here. Also sodas are like $2 and do not have refills...careful! A little more expensive than I would like but oh well, it's sushi after all! Definitely check this place out but be careful there isn't a concert the same time you're going. Otherwise it is completely swamped! read more

One of my favorite places for sushi in back bay. Its fairly authentic, which is quite nice. I have celiac disease and have found that they do know what to exclude most of the time. I've only had one bad experience with them bringing my rolls out with tempura on them. They changed it up immediately. read more

I have come here since my daughter attended Northeastern University. At first I thought it would be substandard sushi for students but it is one of my favorite sushi places in Boston.
