My husband and I have been going here for over a year now. The female owner is the one we usually see who is very nice. Today the male owner was there, he knows we've been coming there regularly but does not acknowledge us even when we say hello. So we went today for lunch and when we entered he did not greet us but we sat down and were given menus by an employee. When he came over I asked for my usual beef and pea pods and that was not available. I asked why and he was kind of gruff saying China town had no pea pods. Ok. Well I went back to the menu found an alternative and had to call out to him we were ready to order. He acted as if he didn't hear me then came over and took our orders. He was very angry about something. My husband ordered his sweet n sour chicken with the sauce to the side like we always do. The food was good but we didn't get any other table service ,no water refills etc. Then he brought the bill and added an extra charge for putting the sauce on the side. Never said a word about this either. When I asked him why it was on there that we never had a charge before he got VERY angry and said very loudly that this was what they charged for doing this. We've never had that before and all I did was ask. I've never been treated like that, did nothing wrong,have been going here for over a year and now we'll never go back. I could have told him how badly he treated us as we entered but I didn't. Shame on him that he just lost two regulars because of his attitude. read more

Honestly, the best Chinese in the area that I have tried. We drive from Round Lake to pick it up. The fried rice is delicious and authentic, unlike the places near me that think orange is the ideal color. Their sesame chicken is the best I've ever eaten and apparently very popular. For Chinese, it's a bit pricey, but the portion sizes are generous and you will have leftovers for days. read more

This is not the best chinese ever but it is for sure the BEST in the AREA. I have lived in Antioch for 9 years and before that Round Lake and Fox Lake so I've been in the area now for 15 years. I've tried chinese places in Grayslake, Gurnee, Fox Lake, Round Lake, Lindenhurst and Antioch. We tend to get egg foo yung, bbq pork, sweet sour chicken, sesame chicken, fried rice, hunan chicken, shrimp with lobster sauce, beef teriyaki, chicken with vegetables, egg rolls and crab rangoon at the places we go. This is better than Tang's in Grayslake, Best Panda in Gurnee, Dragon Inn in Fox Lake, Canton Tea Garden in Antioch and Golden Panda in Antioch. They have the best egg rolls around by far. Their sesame chicken is usually pretty good although we've gotten a couple batches where the chicken was overcooked. The BBQ pork is good, but the quality is up and down, sometimes it is awesome, sometimes the meet is too tough or fatty. Their fried rice is the best around, although it needs a little more flavor. It is a nice balance of bean sprout, green onion, and oil with plenty of meat or vegetables. Their chicken dishes (Hunan Chicken is my favorite) are usually good quality chunks of chicken but some pieces can be a little fatty or gristly. Lots of good, quality vegetables and good sauces. Some dishes can be a little on the greasy side. It is definitely a great place for the lunch special, when you eat in you tend to get more food, plus you get soup. Absolutely the worst take-out Chinese food from their Richmond location. I have never eaten at their Antioch location. The food was absolutely inedible! We ended up throwing most of it out. I will never go back there, and I cannot imagine that anyone who experienced the lack of quality would. The fried rice was awful, All of the prepared appetizers were stale or greasy. After eating at this place for over 10 years we have given them the last $ they will ever see from us. After being sold to new owners the quality of the food has declined. It seems they are able to survive from the gambling machines payouts since they have little regard for food quality. The fried rice was very bland and the hot and sour soup was like water. In the past I've found HAIR in the food. They stopped attaching coupons to takeouts over 10$ unless one item was over the 10$. So even if you spend 100$ unless one item is over 10$ - No coupon. The man lied and said it's always been this way yet when my husband went to pick up the food he was told policy changed. Our order was over 20$ but no coupon. Same thing last 5 or6 visits. This place is okay but it's no Asian Harbor. The crab Rangoon were a 4/5. The beef broccoli was a 2.5/5. Just not a lot of flavor in the sauce. The beef was tender. The chicken lo mein was a 2/5. The noodles were over cooked. Again lacking much flavor. We only got one small container of rice for two large entrees. I only order from here on Mondays since Asian Harbor is closed Mondays. I went here for lunch today with friends. The food is good, and the waitress is friendly and courteous. So why only two stars? Because I don't like when a restaurant is so petty that they have to try and nickel and dime you for every little thing. I frequent Chinese restaurants all the time and they don't try to nickel and dime you like this place does. What am I referring to? The fact that they give you ONE SMALL bowl of rice to accompany your meal, and if you want more, they charge you a dollar for another small rice. Seriously? And when I TRIED to talk to someone about it, all he would say is, "Well, that's our policy." Really? Want to know what my policy is? My policy is that I will not support a business like this. To me this is just a very poor business practice, and the response to my query is very bad customer service. Oh yes, and as someone else mentioned, with how small this place is, having to sit and try and talk over someone playing at the two video slots they seem to have recently installed is definitely not contributing to a good ambiance. Decent chinese food at a great price. Service is excellent. Food is hit or miss. The egg rolls are really, really good. Crab rangoon not so much (it takes fake to a new level unfortunately). And I wouldn't touch any of their beef dishes--the meat is really gamey. However, they have a phenomenally good sweet sour chicken. If you want to go there and haven't had anything there, definitely go with that. Also, there egg foo young is decent. Its definitely no china town, but then they aren't in china town they are in boofoo Antioch, illinois. You won't get better chinese food in the area. read more

Last night I ordered food from here via thier online order form. It took almost an hour to get here. When it finally did arrive, it was cold. When I tried to pay the driver who delivered it, he told me it was already paid for. I told him he was wrong and I needed to pay. He took out a receipt and insisted I paid and he wanted a tip refusing to take the money. About half hour later the driver returned demanding payment, interrupting my night with friends. He then overcharged me and they owe me $10. I called the restaurant and they have failed to respond. I don't understand how A. The driver didn't get it wasn't paid for, you would think when a customer tries to give them money, they would accept it and B. When you rectify the situation and they make a mistake, they would want to resolve it. This place ripped me off do to incompetence and after being a loyal customer for almost nine years has lost my business and is getting a report filed with the Better Business Bureau. WARNING! DO NOT ORDER! SERIOUSLY SAVE YOUR HARD EARNED MONEY! Let me say, what a disappointment! I worked at the Rosatis Pizza next door to this place for two years, and always heard good things. So today I felt lazy and decided to get Szechwan delivered. NEVER AGAIN. I ordered Chicken Broccoli w/ Fried Rice for my girlfriend, Kung Pao Beef for me, and 2 orders of crab rangoons for us to have. The food was delivered quickly by Wei, the manager of this location (I remembered him from my time working next door.) He was very friendly and I tipped him well, expecting there to be an actual delivery driver and not the manager who already gets paid to be there. As soon as I opened the bag I knew there was a problem. An order of 6 crab rangoons costs me $7, and I ordered two. NEITHER ORDER CAME WITH SAUCE. I now have twelve fried cream cheese balls to eat completely dry. Good Start. And then my girlfriend opened her dinner, the room instantly smelled foul like rotten food. They leave the rice and veggies/meat separate, god forbid they stir your STIR FRY for you.... so as my girlfriend is mixing her food together, she wretches and tells me to come look. THE ENTIRE BOTTOM OF THE PLATE WAS DRENCHED IN GELATIN! It looked like a bowl of snot, even to me and I'm not picky whatsoever. Besides the snot, the meal was void of any kind of sauce/gravy/solution. Take a minute to review your menu. I PAID 50 DOLLARS FOR DINNER FOR TWO, AND 100% OF WHAT I RECIEVED WAS INEDIBLE. I called the store back, thinking this must have been sent out by mistake. Instead I was made to feel like I was an asshole by implying that my food was substandard. They told me that the Chicken Broccoli comes in a "clear sauce" and every Chinese Restaurant does this. Let's pause here for a second. I've gone to culinary school, and worked in the food service industry my entire life. NAME ONE CLEAR ASIAN SAUCE THAT NORMALLY IS SERVED WITH CHICKEN AND BROCCOLI. It was pure gelatin, plain as if the sauce had been left to sit out all day/night and separated. Next I was told that I was lying that I hadn't received any sauce for my rangoons- he had packed it himself and handed it to me personally. I'm not blind, I turned everything inside out a second time to be sure. In the end i was told it would be an additional $1.50 charge for each "extra" sauce that he said I "should have mentioned when I was ordering," plus $2.50 for another delivery charge. Which means I have to pay SEVEN EXTRA DOLLARS to get the sauces I should have gotten the first time ordered food- and that's letting go of the fact that my girlfriend's meal was covered in slime. I think what irritates me the most is that, this was the manager who did all this. He took my order, he delivered it, and he answered my complaint. This man, Wei, works there from open to close 6 days a week letting poor quality food go out the door, and then supports his staff by calling the customer wrong and ill-informed. PLEASE PLEASE HEED MY WARNING. I live in this town, I eat in this town, I hardly travel, and I'm not a picky eater by any stretch of the imagination. I also never usually review places on Yelp, but I made an exception in this case. You could not pay me to loiter outside this establishment, let alone eat here again. China Yan by Walmart is much better, and they are cheaper as well. When I used to work across from them, you could see the cooks smoking cigarettes in the kitchen as you walked past the back door. If they are comforable breaking that LAW (not a guideline but a punishable food safety HAZARD), who knows what other rules my may not comply with. read more

My new favorite place in Antioch. We went there for lunch to take advantage of their lunch specials and you get so much food for such a little price! We each got a lunch entree (big enough to take some home for leftovers) and a cup of soup (either egg drop or spicy) and an egg roll (also comes with your chose of white or fried rice, we always chose the fried rice). The food is abundant, especially for lunch and sooo yummy. I love their Empress Chicken and their Governor's Chicken. My husband loves their beef and pea pods. My sister in law really enjoyed her beef and broccoli (and she is really picky!). The lunch menu ends at 2:30 and it's from Monday through Saturday. Anytime we are hungry within those hours we will sure be back again and again! read more

This place used to be THE best Chinese restaurant I had ever been to. The best egg rolls, cashew chicken and beef chop suey! All I can figure is that they changed the chef/cook. I ordered about a month ago. The order was delivered incomplete. They said they would bring the other part of my order in "about" 30 minutes. It was already late in the evening and my food would have been cold by the time the other food arrived. I told her to take that off my bill. She said no. If I didn't like it she told me to leave the food on my porch and they would just come get it. That was ridiculous!! To add insult to injury...the food was horrible!!!!!!!!! The beef in the beef chop suey was all grisly! It was disgusting and tough! The chicken tasted like it had been microwaved. It was awful. Thank God I used my credit card and was able to fight the charge! I will not be going back. Szechwan Palace...whoever your old chef/cook is BEG HIM TO RETURN!!!!!!!!!!!! We have been going to this restaurant for years and have usually had positive things to say about this place. However, after the last visit, I will not be back. With company in town, I placed an order for $60 worth of food to pick up. I received their monthly mailing and one of the coupons is for a free crab Rangoon with a $35 purchase. Not the greatest crab Rangoon I've had, but why not? When I got there, I realized I had left the coupon mailing at home. Thinking they would certainly not mind, especially as we've placed a rather large pick up order. I was wrong! They told me I would be charged for it. Not even liking their crab Rangoon, I told them I didn't want it then. They opened up my food and took it out and set it aside, I'm sure to throw away later. Having nothing to do with the Rangoon itself, but more on principle, that $6 crab Rangoon has costs them a loyal customer. Was the loss...(that I would try and use the coupon again)that important?? Like spending another $60 at their restaurant would be a bad thing for them?!?! That would be a favor to them that I will not be doing ever again. Never order online. Ordered food at 8pm last night online. After over an hour I called, they said it was on it's way. Waited 25 minutes and called back. They tried to call the delivery driver but he didn't answer his phone. Considering the food left the restaurant more than 25 minutes earlier I couldn't help but wonder how cold it would be. Manager said that I should have ordered pickup? That's his answer? Then he said online orders take a lot longer than phone in orders (?) Which makes no sense unless they dont check their online orders, which is my guess. Manager was extremely rude and condescending. Order war cancelled, but apparently the driver picked up that call. Very disappointed considering I have ordered in the past and never had a problem. Bottom line is that i wound up cooking my own dinner and saved myself 45 bucks read more

I've been eating here for years and for the most part have been fairly satisfied. The other night I ordered my regular order and when it was delivered was told it didn't qualify for a coupon. 30.00 worth of food doesn't qualify? I have 9 coupons and have redeemed many more over the years but something has changed! Either they have changed ownership or tactics or just their attitude. Very good! I love the Chicken Lo Mein. The egg rolls were very good and fresh as well! However, I did order a small and ended up with a large. But it was good. Hong Sue Chicken is just like Sweet and Sour Chicken - the sauce comes on the side and you dip the nuggets in the sauce. That I was not particularly fond of because I thought it would taste more like a General Tsao. However, we did order take out and then realized we wanted to eat there and they accommodated very well! read more
