My husband & I have been going to t cooks at royal palms for years! I had my surprise birthday party there 7 years ago . We love it ! After the 2nd renovation we weren't that thrilled with the new "decor" or menu , however, we decided to try it again, this time for lunch . It was my birthday & sat in the back patio & we absolutely loved it ! Charming, romantic & delicious food ! Our waiter Tanino was super friendly without being overpowering. We chatted about our travels to Europe & how this hotel/restaurant made us feel like we were back in Europe. Everything was perfect .... Including the weather ! Expect to leave hungry. The portions are small and very expensive. There are other restaurants that are better like Donavan's or Durant's. However, the atmosphere was very nice and the scenery is pretty. The Mix It Up bar is where I'll be going next time. The food and drinks are less pricey and you still get the live music. read more

Went here for a work Christmas lunch had a group of seven .. food is great here we did the humus and cheese and meat platter and we all got something from BLT to salad to salmon to scallops to clams to a slightly under cooked burger but over all good was amazing great presentation....we get tab and we leave on our well fed and happy...where the low ratings come from is after get back and we're logging our expense report when noticed a gratuity charge that was not mentioned at time of reservation or check out so when we called them to advise we also left a tip that needed to be canceled we were told there was no one to talk to. I just thought T Cooks was ok food wise/ambience wise. Nothing to get foodgasmic about. As far as patios/food go I would much rather dine at El Choro which I love. I am not in a rush to eat at T Cooks again, however, my fiance did propose to me after dinner in February at Royal Palms after eating at T Cooks. I came for dinner with my mom & 2 rescue dogs the evening of April 11 (arrived around 530-6pm) The hostess, server and all the staff were so friendly and sincere. The food was great too and the place was peaceful and relaxing where we could hear & enjoy the music from the bar inside. So I pull up in my Ford Taurus, get valet parking, and watch them park it in-between a next years model Ferrari and a Bentley. Entertaining to me. :) We walk through a very charming little place to T. Cook's and enjoyed a nice meal. Service and the atmosphere were great. The food however was just ok. For the price, the food was not at all worth it. However, being what T. Cook's is, I would have to say that it's a great place for a special occasion or a date for the average Joe. T. Cook's at the Royal Palms Resort royally ruined our 20th anniversary dinner. I had read glowing reviews about the chef's off-menu lobster paella for two. Since my husband is a paella aficionado, we decided this would be a lovely way to celebrate our anniversary. I contacted T. Cook's over three weeks prior to our anniversary to find out if we would be able to order the lobster paella for dinner. I received an email from Royal Palms Resort assuring me that T. Cooks's would be happy to accommodate us for our anniversary, acknowledging the availability and price of the paella, and even following up with a confirmation through Open Table. I responded by affirming that, for the chef's planning purposes, we would be ordering the paella. When we arrived on the evening of our anniversary, the hostess was very welcoming and verified our reservation. She seated us at a table for two with a view of the courtyard and Camelback Mountain and then surprised us by sprinkling rose petals on our tabletop, which we considered a thoughtful gesture. The wait staff were attentive and solicitous. As we were considering wine selections, the waiter began to discuss entrees and we told him that we had pre-ordered the lobster paella for two. He looked surprised and said that he would have to check with the chef. When he returned, he apologized, told us the paella was not available, and asked what we would like to order instead. We told him that we didn't want to order anything else and that we had made our reservation several weeks earlier specifically for the lobster paella. (After moving to Scottsdale a little over a year ago, we compiled a list of restaurants to try for our weekly date night and omitted T. Cook's due to its otherwise unremarkable menu when compared to commensurate venues.) The waiter apologized repeatedly. Although irritated and disappointed, we were not upset with him because it was not his fault, but we got up and left. As we passed by the hostess station, the hostess looked alarmed and asked what was wrong. We explained the situation and she replied that there surely must be a mistake and that she would check with the manager. When she returned, she seemed quite crestfallen to confirm that indeed there was no paella to be had, apologized profusely, and asked if she could provide us with some type of certificate for another visit. We refused since we won't be returning and left. When we picked up our car from the valet, the same scenario ensued--concerned inquiry followed by apologies. By now, my husband was quite blunt about how T. Cook's had messed up, using far more colorful language. The only thing that impressed us about T. First they tried to sit us right in front of the kitchen door- I'm not one to sit in the muddle of traffic, then they suggested to sit us next to the patio door so every time someone came in from the patio, the door would hit the back of the chair. We finally sat outside under the heater in the beautiful patio garden. We ordered the charcuterie - wonderful, great selections of meats & cheeses! They have a new chef, so the menu has changed. I had the salmon, it was ok, my husband had the sea scallops, very good and our friend ordered the antelope, ( not what I would have picked), he said it was average . The food here is unbelievable, but what made our experience was our waiter Sasha. Sasha was so knowledgable and recommended the Colorado Rack of Lamb to me, and am very happy he did because it was so good. I came here on vacation with my mom this week and he made our experience at T Cook's one to remember because of how nice Sasha was and how accommodating he was. My review would have been five stars except for two reasons: 1) No one answered the telephone at the restaurant or on overflow at the hotel when I called twice. I finally got Elmi on the phone, and he took care of me, and couldn't have been more apologetic or gracious but, but I had already been frustrated by the experience, and 2) The layout of the dining room was not conducive to standing in line for one's brunch because we had to snake around pillars and people who were already seated, which I'm sure they didn't appreciate. We had friends in from CT, and we used the Travelzoo discount deal. The fresh seafood was to die for... I LOVED the crab claws and shrimp, and the beef was also excellent. The salads were crisp and fresh, and those at our table who had personal omelets really enjoyed them. Wish there were more interesting fresh, artisan breads to go with! We were able to self-park, which we always prefer, and had a very enjoyable time at a lovely venue. read more

I must've loved the food because I wouldn't have gone back so quickly, especially to a pricier restaurant on a college budget. I'm sure the ambiance hasn't changed. This is for attempted brunch only. Wife's birthday last weekend. Did a stay-cation at the Royal Palms, partly because we wanted to have their Sunday Market brunch. The hotel is beautiful although the rooms are outdated. I had a member of the hotel staff book a reservation for the brunch for us. We showed up Sunday morning at 11. There was a couple in front of us at the hostess stand. They looked a bit pissed, like they had been waiting for a while at the empty stand. Multiple staff members saw all of us waiting and said someone would be with us. After a solid 5 minutes the other couple left. The hostess did finally show up. We were then informed that Sunday brunch was no longer happening. "We can't support it this time of year" was the excuse. It would be nice if someone from the hotel would have told us, or that you would put that info on your website. As of today it still says you are serving Sunday brunch on your website. We were too hungry to go anywhere so we stayed and ate. Service was crappy at best. Food was on par with any crappy hotel breakfast. Hash browns tasted like they had been sitting out for an hour. Had dinner here on valentines 1 year ago, this restaurant is very fancy but being that it was valentines , we had a fixed price menu which we really didn't like, overall it was very nice and ambience is romantic , however my sea bass was undercooked and it took too long to get service, maybe because it was a busy day and they were understaffed. Highlight of the night was definitely the dessert , their caramel crime brûlée is like nothing I've tried before, it was the best I ever had, and typically I'm not a big fan of crime brûlée, but I just couldn't resist!!! After reading other posts, I had a sense this spot might be hit or miss. I was pleasantly surprised to be mistaken. It was a perfectly aimed bulls eye. My buddy and I enjoyed the foie grais sizzling on a hot rock (if you like fg, this is a must!), a lobster noodle dish, the rib eye, lamb pasta, brussel sprouts, mushrooms and fine wine. The service was impeccable and the decorum was chic as well as relaxing. While all was spot on, the desserts were the crowning achievement. We had the chocolate banana caramel mousse as well as a waiter special, dark chocolate peanut butter bars. I don't make this statement lightly....the dessert was the finest I've ever had. read more

When we arrived we were informed by the valet that the restaurant was closed for remodeling, but that they had set up a temporary location in another space.We weren't sure what to expect, but I'm so glad we decided to stay and give it a try! The location they were using was absolutely charming. Our waiter was so attentive and engaging. The food was beautifully prepared and plated. Sadly we dined at T Cooks last night with some friends. It was overall a disappointing experience. The bar area was lively and the guitar player was good. The dining room is so dated. I understand the "old Arizona" feel that they are going for, but it just feels out of step and really needs a redo. We were greeted right away by a young man who offered water and other beverages, but we had brought ours from the bar. We sat for quite a while before I finally asked for bread. I had not eaten lunch and was starving! It came quickly with a delicious pesto dipping sauce, but the bread itself seemed like what you get from the bakery at Safeway. Soft and bland. Several of us ordered from the Restaurant week menu. The scallop dish arrived for my friend and it was raw. She called over a woman who turned out to be the manager. She handled it well whisking away the plate and returning to say a new one was being retired. When the plate returned, the scallop which had been sliced in half by my friend returned cooked through, but clearly the same one that had gone back. The entrees were good, no complaints there. But the service during dinner was abismal. One of us had to keep refilling our water goblets from a pitcher that was near by. The woman trying to open our wine clearly did not understand how to do it, so we had to open our own wine. We also had to refill our own glasses throughout the meal. Several times when we wanted something we looked up to find not a single server on the floor of the dining area. Dessert came for those of us who had ordered the Prix fixe menu, but those of us who did not were not even asked if we wanted a dessert! I asked for a menu and ordered the deconstructed strawberry shortcake. The strawberries were good, the rest of it inedible. The other deserts were also left relatively untouched. They were all awful. Went here for the first time last night with some friends and enjoyed the experience. Our server was nice and very knowledgeable about the menu. The pesto spread for the bread is so fresh and delicious. I had the mushroom risotto and my boyfriend had the filet, both very good. We shared the chocolate silk for dessert, also great. came here on for a prom date dinner a year ago and it was amazing! the food was delicious with a twist as to what it was served on but that wasn't a problem. i was blown away by the fact that we were served and treated well by the owner T cook himself, of course we never found out who he was until the end of our meal! over all it was a very classy and quiet place, thankfully none of our fellow prom goers were there so we enjoyed being one of the few glammed up couples there! over all very excellent service and food, would go again! read more

Seriously, come here. I showed up hobbling around with a crutch and the hostess went above and beyond to give me what I needed. Made a reservation for Saturday brunch. Showed up the day before and asked for champagne to be on the table and to have a card I wrote waiting for my boyfriend (his birthday!). Arrived the next morning, everything in order as asked, and they were very accommodating with my limp leg. Ambiance is wonderful. The seats are extremely comfortable, music is at a nice listening volume, timing from all staff was on point (never felt like I was waiting or rushing for anything). Food is fantastic. Definitely have the cauliflower bisque! A wonderful way to start the brunch. Their Mediterranean Benedict was lovely and the Graham Cracker French Toast was rich and a great desert to the amazing brunch. You can also walk around the grounds to help digest!
