Wonderful! The food was amazing! I'm only giving it 4 stars because it's BYOB. Our favorite small plates were the Kaua'i Prawns and the Mushroom Risotto Goat Cheese Croquettes. We also tried the Israeli Chicken. For our mains, we had the Spiced Ribeye and the Blackened Fresh Catch - both really good. Since we were celebrating, we also had dessert! Had our last night in Kauai celebrating with a family night out. What a great place. The service was outstanding. They were very efficient, attentive, friendly and welcoming. The drinks were amazing - just right- not too sweet. We had Mai Tais and lemon drop and pear martinis. We ordered the spinach dip with warm bread for an appetizer and they graciously supplied more bread when we ran out. Four of us enjoyed the seafood paella. The chicken shrimp piccata and chicken Marsala were excellent as well. It was a lovely evening and a good time was had by all. Definitely an enjoyable experience we would gladly repeat. Sadly, Table at Poipu is not a restaurant that I can/will recommend. There is definitely potential, however, it is very apparent that corners are cut in service, food quality, etc., which is understandable in the current economy and lower tourism numbers. Servers remind me of ladies who have been spent their lives working at chain restaurants. VERY efficient and not in a good way ... lacking warmth, calmness and ability to engage with guests and make them comfortable. Started with the Beet Salad, which arrived faster than was possible to have been freshly prepared. Then ordered Grilled Artichoke, Prosciutto & Goat Cheese and Spinach Artichoke Dip - none of which I recommend. Artichoke hardly has any meat and stem was very stringy. Started with half off happy hour mai tais. Incredible seafood, best we had on the island. I got the mac nut encrusted catch of the day ono with lilikoi sauce, delicious sauce and fresh flaky fish. My friend got the sesame encrusted soy fresh caught ahi, seared to perfection, great portion size. They accommodated my 17-person family with only about an hour's notice, and then dedicated multiple staff-mambers to ensure that our group was well taken care of. I want to make sure I first mention our waitress Erica. She made sure we had a fantastic night. She was attentive and knowledgeable. The food was very delicious and they did a great job spacing out our courses. Highlights included the starters of fried artichoke hearts, goat cheese and prosciutto and bacon wrapped scallops. I very seldom write reviews but I must say that our experience at the Table at Poipu was excellent. Service was super friendly from all the staff and the ambiance was lovely. A special shout to the Chef Gordon for offering such a great menu. The food was delicious. Be sure to try their appetizers especially the prosciutto and goat cheese. The food is amazing. we had the goat cheese wrapped in prosciutto, ribs and artichoke dip to start. They are always consistently delicious . Then pork chop and braised beef, both excellent. For dessert we had the mint chip ice cream that serves 2 people easily, so good! A previous review complained about the credit card fee, as a business owner myself I know the business is charged fees on every transaction, I don't have a problem with covering the fee. I had called this place in October & spoke to Chef Gordon, the owner & chef of Table at Poipu, to make a reservation for 11 people in December. I asked for a reservation confirmation number/email, but he very confidently insisted that because he was the owner, that if I booked it with him personally then it was guaranteed. Well, come the day of the reservation, one of the people in my party called an hour before the dinner reservation worried, because the restaurant did not seem open. The website also said they were only open Wed to Sat... our dinner reservation was on a Sunday. Terrified, I called and texted a few times after 5:00p, but didn't get anyone on the phone nor a reply to my texts. It was peak tourist season & I had a party of 11 hungry people with nowhere to go. Can you believe this clumsy oversight? Chef Gordon should've caught this as I was booking, since he's the owner, like he proudly proclaimed (when I booked the restaurant hadn't yet opened to the public). Was he not even looking at a calendar when I booked? Didn't he know his own restaurant's schedule?! At the very least, as the booking neared, he should've called to notify me of this mistake & tried to correct it. We ended up having to wait hours to get dinner somewhere else. When I got back in the evening, I saw that I had gotten a text back saying that they had been trying to get a hold of me for a week, leaving texts and voicemails. This was an outright lie, as I had never gotten any missed calls, not a single text, nor a single voicemail from them. Sloppy and dishonest - not a good look. Our server originally suggested that the paella would be enough for the 2 of us, but we were hangry and we finished everything! The bonus was that it was BYOB - bring your favorite bottle of wine, champagne, or some beer to enjoy at the restaurant for no corkage fee. Take advantage of this while you can. An elegant upscale contemporary/modern designed dining area with every table a nicely upholstered comfortable booth with linen tablecloth. All of the staff are Aloha friendly especially our gregarious server, beautiful Jenny. She is a treat! We enjoyed happy hour drinks right up until our dinner since happy hour is until 5:30 and our dinner reservation was for 5:00, so Jenny brought us more "half-off" glasses of wine to our table. The braised beef was delicious and the portion was huge. The grilled artichoke and French onion soup were tasty as well. We were so full we didn't attempt the chocolate decadence dessert, but maybe when we return. We liked the experience/meal so much we already made another reservation [and asked for Jenny] before we leave Kauai. This was one of the strangest dining experiences I have had. At a point, I get like we would be on secret camera show. The server couldn't describe menu items (the prawn bake) remember the name of the fish, or describe a special wine. When she could not describe the wine, she offered a sample. When she brought the sample to the table she also brought a straw - and asked to use the straw to taste the wine!!!! It was so uncomfortable so we had to say yes. When describing the specials, she walked away twice to get confirmation of the word for swordfish and shiitake mushroom. I asked about some of the cocktails and she suggested one that she had the night before which she got to try because it had been a mistake pour. I picked something else but she brought the drink she suggested instead. Maybe she wanted another mistake in her favor! When the group ordered glasses of the special wine, and a subsequent glass, the second glass was a "short pour" which she offered to replace. Was the special wine only one bottle or did they not want to open a new one?! At the end of the meal, with a $400 tab, she whispers to the payer that he can do cash instead of credit card for a cash discount. Becuase otherwise they will charge us the credit card fee?! And secretly offers cash payment options. Everything felt shady, food was well below average. read more

Overall we found nothing that wow'ed us in our dining experience. It was all very nice, but nothing compelling that would have us rave to friends and family to check it out. We had two specials. First was Crab crusted Mahi Mahi that was quite unevenly cooked, and braised short ribs that somewhat dry and didn't come across as very braised given the amount of unrendered fat in the ribs. We shared the Huapia pudding for dessert. It was interesting; the pudding was essentially liquid and the pastry cups added little other than to contain the liquid pudding and over powered any Huapia flavor. Service was fair, certainly not what I'd expect from a fine dining establishment.
