Visited Table X 8/15/19 with my wife and a couple we know. This was the best food I've ever eaten in Salt Lake City. Atmosphere: Modern steel/concrete tables with very comfortable mid-century modern chairs. The three booths along the east wall had black floor-to-ceiling upholstery. Large front windows looked out onto a small patio. The floor was a wood-grain dark tile, and the ceiling wood ceiling with exposed ducting and steel structure. Modern but comfortable. Food: We ordered the chef's tasting menu, which included most of the menu. Every dish was excellent. Everything is made in-house and everything was excellent. I particularly enjoyed the risotto, which has a amazing lemon/mint flavor that I've never had in a risotto, but very much enjoyed. The halibut came with coconut rice - both were perfect with coconut, chili and marigold that was a surprising complement the halibut. I'd never had marigold oil before, but it was also quite good on that dish. The soft cooked egg was perfectly done with the pickled mushrooms and farro porridge. We had to wait a bit for the egg, however, and the chef sent out the heirloom carrot salad while we waited. The carrot salad had cooked carrots and shaved raw carrots with ricotta, lemon verbena, coriander honey, and some kind of ice on top. The bread and cultured butter plate was awesome. I don't think I could do every plate justice in description, but in general, the food was perfectly prepared, and there were 2-3 very bold flavors in each dish. Every ingredient listed is apparent in the dish. Most flavors were familiar to me, but every dish had some flavor combination I'd never had before. Drinks: I had an excellent old fashioned before our food, and during dinner I had a Red Rock Marvella Belgian Tripel. I thought I knew Utah beers, but the Marvella was new to me, and despite that it's 11% (!!!), it was well-balanced, very tasty, and complemented the food. I love Belgian beers, and was expecting this American reproduction to be overly-boozy or overly-sweet, but it was just good. I have a feeling it's addition to the menu was carefully considered. Conclusion: Table X is on the pricey side, but there were probably 6-7 chefs working hard, no compromises on food, excellent service (thanks Pete!), and attention to every detail of our experience. Table X is a fantastic eatery. Fine dining from the kitchen is center stage for guests. Here are a couple hints that will make it even better: Reservations: We called on the day-of and found that the tables were booked up. David suggested we try eating at the "kitchen bar" where we could observe the kitchen in action. This turned out to be a great opportunity to chat with a few of the chefs and watch the magic happen. Prix Fixe Menus: We visited during the Sundance Festival 2019 and they had a 3-course and a 5-course prix fixe option besides their regular menu. We ordered the 5-course and were surprised at how much flavor they pack into smaller portions. We ate every bite, went home very full! Parking: There are 2 lots that were full when we arrived for a 6PM reservation. The adjacent neighborhood has plenty of parking within a few steps. X does mark the spot, and Table X brings big city sophistication to the mid city with a mid city price. We visited the second week of opening, but I'm just getting around to this. Table X brings current fine dining food style to somewhere other than downtown. Although it is casual enough not to intimidate, it would feel great when you are all dressed up too. We went with the chef's tasting. It let us get a feel for what the restaurant is all about. It was nice, in this case, because the dishes were not all one offs for the meal. It was a selection of dishes that were on the menu, but, I assume, in smaller portions. The service was excellent, the food was mostly all high notes, and the facility was first rate. Obviously, some of the pictures below are the standard food shots, but I've tried to include a little more. Make sure you go downstairs and experience the restroom area. This is by far the best restaurant and experience i've had locally in a long time. The food was amazing, delicious, fresh and beautifully presented. And the service was above and beyond our expectations. I wish more restaurants implemented the type of service Table X has. We also loved when our food came out the owner / chef came to our table to explain every detail of the dish. He was very informative and willing to answer our questions. When we met our waiter we joked that we wanted to come here for our anniversary (that was in July) but we weren't able to and we finally made it for a late Valentine's Day dinner. When we ordered desert our plate came with a "Happy Anniversary" design and we loved it! We will definitely be coming back! read more

Table X is hidden away in kind of the start of a neighborhood. It has got a modern, plain square look to the outside of the building with a big neon "Table X" sign. Once you walk in, you're in a little curtained-off section to be seated. There are round tables in the middle and cushioned seats around the edges of the room. The kitchen is visible from the seats. The atmosphere was very classy and jazzy, however, the lighting was a bit bright for the aura of the room. We sat down and the waitress came to our assistance right away. We ordered the Chef's Tasting Menu with Wine and were given picked radish to help cleanse our palates. The first wine came with our first course, the Fingerling Potato Dijonnaise. It tasted like fancy mashed potatoes. The sauce wasn't too overpowering and the spices were well mixed. The second course was the oh so delicious Sweet Potato Gnocchi. This was my favorite course. The Gnocchi just melted and I could not get enough of it. It was a little spicy, but not too spicy. I've had Gnocchi before, but not "spicy" Gnocchi and it was just delicious. We were supposed to receive our second wine with the Gnocchi, however, we received our wine a little late; we received it a little after our third course. The third course was the Striped Bass with Winter Squash Sauce and Gala Apples. The sauce tasted buttery, however, it was not too buttery. I was a little iffy before I tried the sauce because I tend to get sick of buttery sauces a little fast, however, this was very balanced. The apples and onions were seasoned to not take away from the taste of the bass, but rather to add to it, which really showed the skills of the chef because onions and apples have very strong flavors. We received our third wine a little after we received the second wine. The last wine was a red wine to match with our fourth course: Bobbette Steak. My steak was a little bland, however, my partner's steak was very well seasoned. I was very excited for this course because I love meat, but I still preferred the Sweet Potato Gnocchi over the Steak. Our last course (fifth course) was the dessert. It was a bowl of Pumpkin Compote with Maple Ice Cream, Ginger Snap Cookies, and Creme. The dessert was very well balanced and was not too sweet. Overall, the Chef's Tasting Menu was decent. All of the courses were very well balanced and delicious. I chose to rate this high-rated establishment a three out of five stars because the atmosphere of the restaurant was a bit put off because lighting, the service was not the best due to the late wine, and the last course before the dessert was supposed to be the highlight of the Chef's Tasting Menu, however, my steak was not seasoned all too well. The pros about this place was that the interior design of the establishment was very modern and simple in a good way, my partner's steak was seasoned perfectly, and the wines fit the courses very well. So good! One of my favorite restaurants in SLC, technically, it is in Millcreek. The attention to detail is fantastic. The wait staff is incredibly attentive to make the experience fabulous. I hate having to flag someone down for a refill at other restaurants. Table X is always keeping an eye on refills and clearing plates. I have only been here twice and both times were great. The second time we did the tasting menu. I had some mushroom toast the first time and it was one of the best things I have ever eaten. I don't really even like mushrooms. All the food is so good that it is fun to have the tasting menu because you know you aren't going to get something that is only ok. The level of service and quality of food is remarkable. 100% worth trying. I can't wait till my next meal at Table X! read more

My husband and I went here last weekend to celebrate a birthday. The food was okay, but after the 2nd course I found a very long blonde hair in my food which I couldn't eat anymore and I struggled eating the rest because of it. When we told the waitress she told me that she was sorry snd it was unfortunate that had happened. My bill was $345 for just the 2 of us. That is WAY too much money to pay for a meal with hair in it that I couldn't finish. I was so disgusted by the way they handled the situation and expected much better customer service. We've had tasting menus in NYC and Philadelphia and this easily compares, if not better! Service was impeccable and every plate was flavorful, balanced and incredibly delicious. Excellent food excellent ambiance, excellent service. I was a little disappointed that they felt that they needed to add a "Service Charge" to my bill. I didn't notice it till I got home. I just don't feel like there is enough value in a $7 bottle of sparkling water a $75 meal and when you feel like you need to lick the plate just to get enough calories to carry you to the next meal. If you really want to feel pampered come here. If you want to feel like you got your moneys worth there are a lot of restaurants that will cost 1/2 and give you 2X the food. read more

We had the privilege of eating here for their soft opening and it was amazing. We ordered a bunch of the starters to share: the Red Beet Curry which was packed with flavor and the subtle coconut came through just perfectly. Next up, the Lamb Tartare - sweet yet savory, it was diced perfect and hit the spot. Don't forget to try the Kimchi Egg - WOW. The crispy pork in the salty pork broth accompanied the egg perfectly. Next up, entrees. Our favorites were the Rainbow Trout - which had crispy skin and the most amazing beans underneath and the Steak that came with this sweet black garlic and was cooked to perfection! My wife and I were in town for the Thanksgiving holiday and got a chance to get away from the kids to escape to this Table X for a night to ourselves. We had the 5 course meal which came with a roasted kale bite, beet salad purée, risotto, blackened cod, steak, and finished the courses off with coffee cake. It was delicious. Pricey evening but we expected that (~220$). The flavors were all impeccably balanced with many earthy tones from local fresh ingredients. We also opted to do the optional non-alcoholic drink pairings which I recommend trying once. The drinks were interesting and very flavorful although did not always blend well with the dish in front of me. Food is delicious but the fact that you have NO CHOICE in what to eat for that money is ridiculous. Ambiance is nice but reservation was made 3 weeks in advance and all we could get was 5:45pm on a Thursday. I left feeling underwhelmed and still hungry and for $425.00 for 4 people I am not sure I would ever go back. Be prepared for a $20 corkage fee, I get corkage but $20 seemed steep, and a 3.5% surcharge, you know..."because of covid." Portions are 2-3 bites as it's a tasting menu but still paid $75 per person. Again, food is delicious but I will choose to spend my money elsewhere. read more

While looking for a nice restaurant to take my wife to for our 21st anniversary, I found Table X. The wine pairings with the various flights was perfection. Be sure to arrive at the restaurant on an empty stomach so you can enjoy the full 7 flights. Definitely worth the price and it was a great place to celebrate an anniversary. read more

The food was excellent. We had the tasting menu which was well balanced and flavors were beautifully proportioned. My main criticism was of the reception staff, who was not welcoming and had an aloofness which I wouldn't expect in SLC or have a desire to encounter again. Other staff were fine, all food was brought to our table and removed from our table simultaneously, which I like. I liked the decor and the open plan kitchen but there was a distinct lack of welcoming energy in the place. read more

At a minimum Table X is the best tasting menu in SLC and at a maximum a top 10 restaurant. The food is 10/10 and the service was as you'd expect from a restaurant at this price point. My only complaint and it's a small one is that it's bar menu (specially cocktails and spirit list) were a little limited. We sat at the chefs counter which I would highly recommend. read more

We chose this restaurant for our anniversary dinner. We had high expectations and we were initially very pleased. The first two courses were very nice. The rest of the meal went down hill. The fish dish was mediocre at best as it was over cooked. The pork dish was, to be polite, just bad. It was pulled pork formed into a loaf. It was dry and tasteless. The dessert was dry and a dissatisfying end to what we expected to be a wonderful meal. We enjoyed the service and the atmosphere but will not return as the food was overall very mediocre at best and much better places especially for the price. So sad! Julianne was our wonderful server and she provided knowledgeable and prompt service. Listen..... I hate to do this I really really do. I'm a jovial guy, I like good things. I like happy things. So when I have to relay bad news it weighs heavy on my soul. But the people expect and demand honesty and I MUST comply . The truth is I enjoy eating at nice places . Valters, Handle & Francks are my joints. I love these kinds of places. So when a waiter at HSL recommended this place to us I was excited . But it just did NOT deliver . So to start all appetizers were just ... so so. Nothing special. We got the chicharron, a salad and the spaghetti. Not terrible but not good. But here's where my heart explodes with sadness : My wife got the Hudson Valley chicken. And it was the size of a single chicken finger from your local chicken drive thru place. But .... BRUH... it was dry AF(that's how the kids say it was drier than a saltine cracker) and tough. I mean this with all sincerity , when I was 12 I took a chicken breast from the freezer, sliced it in half, put it in the microwave for 1 minute and then doused it in generic teriyaki sauce. And I promise you it tasted better than this . And was probably less dry than this too. It seriously was BAD. I feel like I'm tearing up right now. I am . My eyes are moist. That's how disappointed I am. It's not just that it was dry and microwave-y. It's that it was dry and microwave-y for FORTY BUCKS!!!!!!! Not a typo. I don't mind dropping $40 for a piece of chicken if it's Effin edible. Now I've gone from sadness to anger. I tried to save the meal with a "milk cake" but it was .... you guessed it... This was one of the best food experiences I've had. The pork & beef were both delicious, but dessert was a highlight. We had the pecan tart with pumpkin ice cream and I could have eaten ten of them it was so good. I also loved their sourdough bread. Their food is earthy and rustic with creative presentation. It is on the pricey side, but so worth it. Picky eater approved and so versatile. Love that they have a tasting menu for vegetarians as well that's similar to the regular tasting menu. The wine pairing is also super nice but the non alcoholic option is great too! It's a great place to go with friends! Just to get an idea, there was 7 of us and we chose all the options, it came to about $1200 not including tip. So about $170-ish a head. I really wish I had checked Yelp before eating here. The previous two reviews were spot on. My descriptions of the food will pale in comparison to those written before me, so I won't elaborate on that. $36 chicken better be on point, but it was anything but. Halibut was good quality fish but sauce was boring and pretty flavorless We had heard great things...but...so terribly disappointing. The only decent thing we ate came from a bottle. Prosecco was yummy. The worst part of the experience was the BS pretentious foodie talk. "The chefs couldn't find decent chicken in Utah, so we fedex them in from NY." What a load of crap. Plenty of delicious chicken in UT - AND - they overcooked it! Don't eat here. I predict failure within a few months. If you do, I hope your experience is better than ours. read more

I never leave 2 star reviews. I find it in bad taste and completely shallow of a customer to bash on hard working people and food establishment owners, detering other potential paying people from trying out what they have to offer. I simply could never find a good reason to say "Save your money". I think anywhere is worth trying once, and I still hold that value. If you have not been to Table X, please go. Try it out and see if you like your time there. They serve good tasting food. But I personally have been a few times now and I cannot endorse it any longer. Not that I have much power and my opinion may mean nothing, but Table X is not worth more than a single visit. There are many problems that plague Table X. Some that were not present when they first opened, but have recently reared their ugly face. Some have always been there and never been fixed. #1 Portion sizes have dramatically decreased. Insultingly small portions of fish and beef are served on the taster menu. 2 cubes of bavette (aka flank) steak for the last course is like a slap in the face. #2 Ingredients are cheaper. Not low quality but stuff that shouldn't be on a $60 taster. They are searching for the cheapest possible thing to make you but in the fanciest way. They are trying to make a person FEEL like they are getting their money's worth but in reality it's a $30 meal. It's a facade. This a true sign of either slipping finances or laziness. Bean salad, a poached eggs, 1 scallop, a few cubes of bavatte steak and pudding should not compose this expensive of a meal. #3 Wait staff suck. Non entertaining, stone faced and soft spoken individuals make up the staff. Non enthusiastic people that stick a glass of wine in front of you and say, "here is wine #2". #4 I lost my appetite between courses. It took so obnoxiously long to get food. Still takes a full 2 hours to dine here. Still 2 hours even after they have slashed portions in half, cut back in ingredients and thrown creativity out the window. Table X has truly lost any charm it had. It's cold and evil, money grabbing cooking. 2 hours of unattended dining with tiny portions and cheap ingredients. The garnishes cost more than the meal. On the outside, Table X is beautiful. But underneath all the fancy stone plates lie a depressed restaraunt screwing on a fake smile. I left bored, exhausted and hungry. More unsatisfied and unhappy than I have ever felt after a meal. The whole experience simply sucked. I went to Taco Bell to grab a bite after. Partly because I like crappy tacos just as much as I like a $50 steak. But more because after dranopping $400 on dinner for a party of 5 all I had left was 99 cents. If they have turned into this sad place because they wanted to... I'm upset. If they serve itsy bitsy portions of bean salad and poached eggs out of sheer desire then that's robbery. BUT If they are doing this because they have to... then I feel awful. If it's out of necessity they turned to tiny cubes of bavette steak on a $60 taster then I hope it all works out and yall can rise above. Good luck Table X. read more

Last Saturday evening we had a party of four and dined at Table X. Our reservation was for 5:15 as that was the only time available. The four of us decided to try the tasting menu ($55.00 each) and the accompanying wine for $20.00 each. We started with a complimentary amuse Busch which was French radishes in a dip. Very good! Next were asparagus and mixed mushrooms on sour dough. Delicious! The first course a halibut poached in a delicious broth. A very delicate white wine was added. The second course was a rare delicate Bavetta steak over a bed of radicchio. Steak was done to perfection. Desert was goats milk pudding with six year aged balsamic, candied pined nuts. Just ok. We had reservations for a work dinner; the location was dead. There was one couple in the restaurant. Besides them and us, it was only the workers. I felt like service was pretty slow based on the number of people who were there. Everyone was friendly though. The food was hit and miss. Some of the things we had I loved, other things I couldn't stand. We had chickpea Sacca bread instead of the regular bread due to dietary restrictions. It was delicious. I got the Jones steak; the steak itself was a good cut of meat. The sauce on the top was ok, not my favorite, but fine. There was something on the side of the steak...grilled radicchio perhaps? Not sure, but I couldn't eat it. Radicchio itself isn't bad, but whatever they grilled it with...it was like eating a cigar. I am not too picky, especially when it comes to work dinners, I do the polite thing and eat everything on my plate, even if it's not something I particularly care for. But this stuff made my stomach turn, I left it on my plate. I don't drink, but the people I was with are quite well versed in wine and were really impressed with the selection and quality of one of the Pinot Noirs. read more

Simple but elegant space with well space tables and soft lighting. Food was fresh and tasty , really enjoyed local produce and flavor dish . The wine pairing was appropriate but simple . Very nice service although I had to pour my water all the time . They had very safe Covid precautions including reusable use of the silverware but will recommend to provide a place to set them down between dishes instead of just the table read more

OK. I can't wait to write this review. Noted this was my first time only. 8:45 pm reservations but we were not seated until 9:20. We were told to wait in the area by the bathrooms, downstairs called the "lounge." People we could see the faucets in the bathroom while we waited down there, even guided a patron. Fuck! We just spent $500 for 3 people with tip. Our server was a little condescending after we had to wait by the toilettes. Sorry we werent feeling special already! We ordered 2 bottles of pinot noir. The octupus was chewy, a little smelly. Not impressed. The bread was dry with not enough butter to cover a quarter of my bread. The risotto was good and same with the cod. A little too salty for me but we were all starving so we licked our plates. The coffee was nice and the gingerbread mousse was everything. I could have had another. So why one star? Because for $500 I dont sit by the bathrooms to start my dinner and i expect perfection. Failed. read more

Friendly staff, cool atmosphere, white lights from kitchen disturb ambience a bit. The food has a sophistication that keeps it interesting. We loved to just taste and study the food. I would like to see more seafood and vegetables variety. The gnocchi is the best thing on the menu, very well rounded dish. The thing that really just makes you happy right when you get there is the individual serving of fresh sourdough bread with butter, my meal was made there and I could have gone home happy. One of the more avant garden restaurants in Utah. Table X only opened for 9 months. Contrary to traditional wisdom, "too many chefs in the kitchen, the restaurant is owned and operated by 3! talented chefs, overseeing the details from the food, wine, and staffing. Definitely a lot of synergy going on. The food is excellent, showcasing the best version of the ingredients: heirloom tomatoes with garden-grown melon, Hokkaido scallop, Spanish octopus, and Jones Creek beef from Utah. There's Korean, Japanese, American, Spanish/Portuguese, Italian, and French influences to the meal. The service warm yet professional, the staff walked to show me the restroom (huge service points), the decor contemporarily reflects the forward thinking cuisine. Make a reservation!! Arrived at 6 with a work colleague to enjoy dinner with our spouses. We were accommodated with a table and a 1 hour time limit because they had reservations and were booked for the night. Based on our minimal selections I would love to return for a more leisurely meal. My scallops and hubby's steak were both cooked to perfection. Field mushroom appetizer was divine. Again - hope to return when we can enjoy the whole experience. Service was efficient and clearly focused on getting us served and out for their 7pm reservations - which I totally appreciate.
