Last night, I attended the private friends/family event at Tabu Shabu Thousand Oaks! Yes, I made the drive there and back from San Diego, but it was oh-so-worth it! A special shout-out to the owners, Yina and Jeremy for extending out the invite to me! My entire experience was exceptional, from the friendliness and attentiveness of the staff, to the always delicious Tabu shabu meat/veggies/broth/dipping sauces....EVERYTHING was amazing and delicious, and I'm so glad I could make the drive from San Diego and attend this event! If I ever find myself visiting Thousand Oaks, I absolutely will be visiting my friends at Tabu Shabu Thousand Oaks! And if you're a local Thousand Oaks person, do yourself a favor and go eat at Tabu Shabu TO!!!! You WILL NOT be disappointed and you will be coming back for more...trust me on that! read more

It was okay. I've mainly only had at home hot pot for reference. The meat was good - a little pricey and the portions were good. They don't give you all the veggies thought which sucked I really wanted all the mushrooms. The have an awesome amount of sauces though. Delicious. Great service with regular checkins. All the ingredients we fresh and the broth was perfectly balanced. We got the sukiyaki with rib eye. They give you a pasteurized egg so you can dip. read more

Waited for more than 1 hour and then asked when my party would be seated but said they are waiting for party of 2 who was 3 parties behind us on the waitlist and there wasn't much communication. Really need to work on organization and probably more space. read more

The service was great, we were able to sit right away and the server explained everything and gave recommendations. The food came in a reasonable time. The quality of the food was good, but the quantity was lacking for the price. Our dinner was almost $100 for two people. So expect to spend some $$ at this place. Our server sort of disappeared towards the end of our meal, maybe he went on a break. But the other servers were able to step in and help out, so no big deal. Overall it was an ok experience. Attended this wonderful establishment during a training night tonight as they work towards getting everything together for their grand opening. It's apparent that the owners take pride in serving the freshest cuts of meat along with their daily made ponzu and goma sauces (the best I've ever had!). This, along with their extremely friendly and attentive staff makes this restaurant well positioned for success. I almost don't want to post this review because I selfishly want this place to be kept a locals only secret - but I'm going to post this because Tabu Shaba is a welcome addition to all of Ventura County and deserves to be in the spotlight. I love this place! Been going here since they've opened. The owners are really sweet and the staff is so friendly. Everytime I come I am never disappointed. I usually get either the rib eye or the salmon, both of which are always so good. And the veggies they serve are always fresh. read more

The meat quality is 4 star The broth quality is 3 star- we got sukiyaki and kombu seaweed dashi; in my opinion, the sukiyaki is a bit sweeter than usual and a bit lacking in saltiness. The kombu seaweed dashi was straight-up water and two pieces of kombu seaweed. The setting is bar-like, but it's a bit awkward trying to reach the pot, and your vegetable plate might be very close to the person next to you when it is crowded. I don't know if it's just my plate, but my spinach was 1/8 spoiled. The service is five stars; they are very friendly. These rating is comparing to mo-mo paradise and is entirely just personal opinion. read more

We won't be coming back. The food quality was very good; the portions were small. The major drawback was the wait time. We went on a Saturday nite and the seating bar was 3/4 full. They still wouldn't seat us because there were two large parties ahead of us. We kept getting told that we around be seated in "about 10 minutes." It actually took 1 hour. The restaurant staff isn't sufficient to handle a full counter. If you go at an off hour you would probably be fine. read more

I have been here roughly once a week since they opened. Always solid and very tasty. Manager is very nice. Lots of great veggies come with each order and plenty of broth choices to choose from. Glad to see all this flavor pop up in the relatively tasteless row of food places on the Blvd. their meats appear to be high quality too. i'll never know how the ratings got so high on this. The food is a 3 of 5 and the service is 1. Again and again problems with orders. Lots of unreasonable delays. We've tried a few times because we love all japanese food, but they acted every time like it was their first day in business. BTW, they must have asked lots of people to review the place because they haven't been open long enough for that many reviews. read more

I have been waiting forever for this place to open and it was definitely worth the wait. The food is excellent and the staff is phenomenal. Super high quality ingredients. They are only in their soft opening and already have things going really well. We both had the grass fed ribeye and I had the kale ramen noodles and the bf had their gluten zero carb noodles which were both delish. One of the best experiences eating at any restaurant ever. If you've tried Korean BBQ, Brazilian, or any unique restaurant experiences, this is going to be a real one-up from all the others. Finally a legit Shabu Shabu place in Ventura County!!! At this point I would consider myself a Shabu Shabu veteran. I was really bummed that my favorite spot California Shabu Shabu in Santa Monica closed a few years ago. So that meant me driving even further to get some good Shabu. The location is Tabu is perfect as it has plenty of parking. The stuff is pretty green however they are friendly and helpful. The sauces are on point and they have many protein choices. They even have a variety of different broths. My only gripe is what another yelper posted about. That is the cooking station at eat seat is too far away. I'm a pretty tall guy with long arms and it was a challenge to reach it comfortably. I hope they fix this by getting taller stools and changing this distance of the burners. Other than that I recommend this place and I hope it stays around. read more

Great food. Been here over 10 times now. Best shabu! Always friendly staff too. Manager: We weren't impressed with the staff last visit. Very friendly and attentive, but the girls came across unprofessional and (sorry no other way to say it) ditzy. In our 2 minute chit chat she said something (totally unintentionally and obliviously) mildly offensive to my cousin. We just had to roll our eyes as she scampered off. After the conversation, we weren't too surprised Half our order came out wrong, but they quickly corrected it. We had to ask for tools, then sauces, then the garlic and green onions with a 'heehee oops!' response every time. Also one of the girls kept dumping the dirty dishes into the bucket from high up and it was extremely loud. Every. Time. Jesus. The young ladies need a little more self awareness. read more

We come here pretty often and normally we always have a great experience until earlier tonight. We decided to come for my fiance's birthday dinner because it's always a solid spot to grab dinner - the staff is normally great and we always have a good time. Unfortunately, we felt rushed out to leave because a group of 9 was coming in and they needed us to leave as there were 7 open seats to the right of us. We were kind of bummed because they gave us the check before we were able to even order dessert. Then talked in front of us about how the other party was getting upset about not getting seated faster. One of the female staff pulled my pot off the burner before even asking if I was done with it. I guess I would've been fine if we were on the tail end of our dinner but we were both still eating and were planning on getting dessert.
