I'll be honest. I was expecting the worst when my friends wanted to grab Mexican in the Marina. And when I saw the Nantucket decorations my fears were only validated. But what didn't validate them? The food. The tacos, though maybe not the most authentic, are certainly far from the white people tacos my mom would make. I had Nick's style which was so so good. The tacos are hefty, cheesy and crispy. It's really a carnival for your mouth. I tried Tacko for the first time a couple of months ago through takeout and was absolutely delighted. It truly rivals the burritos in the Mission where I am located. I got the San Francisco Carne Asada burrito (inspired by the Mission District burritos) and even as takeout, it didn't lose any of its flavor. The biggest characteristic of a Tacko Burrito is the crispy sear they are able to get on the outside of the burrito, it adds a perfect and much needed crunch to the experience. The carne asada in the burrito was also very flavorful and crispy, a true marker of a delicious burrito. There was the perfect amount of cheese, sour cream, and guac, not overcrowding the burrito, but adding just a little bit of freshness and flavor. Unfortunately, when I went to their actual store last weekend, I was a little disappointed in their service. It was a busy day, so my friends and I decided to order online and come back when they told us it was ready. They gave us an approximate time of 30 minutes to make our food. When we got back 40 minutes later, they told us that they weren't even close to making our food, and we had to wait another half hour to receive it. I hope this was just a mistake because of the crowds, but I would have hoped that their app and wait time would convey how many orders they had received. I wouldn't have minded to wait an hour for my food, as long as I knew I was going to be waiting that amount of time, and plan accordingly. Bland, low quality food. The only thing going for this place is that it's one of the only spots with tacos & burritos in the vicinity. This is the last time we'll go. It used to be fantastic but it changed ownership since then - and management & oversight seems to be increasingly diminishing even under new management (or maybe their newer goal is high volume of low quality food for delivery apps, so no freshly grilled meat, etc...). Had the a Carne Asada Quesadilla with Suiza (guac & sour cream) and it wasn't enjoyable at all. Barely any cheese, mostly meat, barely any flavor. The meat totally lacked flavor and just felt heavy; seems like a low quality meat that was boiled (not grilled) leaving all the flavor behind in the water. Ordered a side of rice and beans, and those too were totally flavorless. Don't expect the red & green sauces they put on the table to make it enjoyable, because those aren't so appealing either. After a couple bites I took the leftovers home, but ended up throwing it out the next day because the thought of eating it was so unappealing. One of my favorite Cali-Mex places in the city, Tacko delivers. I reckon it's not easy to compete in this cuisine in SF, a place that's littered with great options for this style of food, but Tacko makes it's way to the top of the list. The best dish here is the quesadilla (carne asada, no pico), the chips/salsa/guac are great (though a bit over priced), and also good are the burritos (sf style) and the tacos (nicks way). These salsas are amazing, and I highly recommend trying the habanero. Nothing too special about ambiance; it's very basic where you order at the counter and seat yourself, however I'll say it's well kept/clean and large enough that there's always a place to sit. Similarly with service, nothing special, but it's usually surprisingly quick for how busy they usually get. I'd normally deduct a star because I've had a few instances where it's either taken longer than promised or they forgot to add something to my order (such as chips, guac, or salsa); but they're quick to correct their mistakes, and I just simply recommend checking your order before you depart if you do takeout to make sure it's all there. I come here often, and will definitely continue doing so. read more

There's certainly enough salsa to pair with the heaping serving of chips. This dish is perfect for sharing. The burritos are HUGE and are stuffed to the brim. This is pretty much true for the "Nick's Way" tacos as well. The delicious housemade salsa offer an excellent option to top your food off with. Although pricy, the guacamole is delicious here! Also notable: sparkling water is offered. I like to sip on it while I wait for my chow. Got 3 items for delivery from Caviar. Poco Queso, San Diego Burrito (Chicken), and Carne Asada Quesadilla. What's good is the tortilla. Damn, it's crispy, and buttery / oily. You'd definitely feel good eating it. And the regrets will come later on because it's that oily. The Carne Asada Quesadilla is great. The meat is so flavourful. The tortilla is great as mentioned above. Now, let's get to the not-so-good stuff. Poco Queso (cheese quesadilla). There is no cheese in it. Tortilla is already great (this is the 3rd time I mentioned how great the tortilla is), yet no cheese to be found. I think the mistake that they did was the packing. They probably pushed too hard on the foil packaging that all the cheese leaked out, and sticking to the foil. So, we ended up with just tortilla with no cheese. San Diego Burrito (chicken). Chicken is bland. I was expecting more flavor. Though one thing that I didn't like is how soupy it is. Like, so much water in the burrito. TACKO HITS THE SPOT!! And it's even better on Taco Tuesday with $2 street tacos and $2 Tecate beers all day. I love the carne asada and chorizo the most, but all of the meats were really well seasoned and tasty. Definitely recommend getting the elote too - corn covered with cojita is the perfect side with tacos. And of course you have to get the chips and guacamole. It's a hefty portion of chips with a generous amount of delicious salsa and guacamole. Even had some extra to add to my street tacos. If you want some drinks to go with your tacos, go straight for the pitcher of margaritas. For $19 a pitcher, you might as well! It poured about 6 drinks. I've had tacko take out before and it was actually decent. I had the tacos and the sauces were really flavorful. I'm not sure what happened today, but this is the worst quesadilla of my life. The chorizo quesadilla was covered in oil, swimming in it really. You can see this in the picture below. It was inedible because of the amount of grease covering all of it.
