I found this place on Yelp and I'm so glad I came in! We for the California and Surf & Turf burritos plus two tacos de pastor. The burritos were very good and flavorful, plus they were a decent size. The tacos were ok. I was expecting more flavor from the meat, but those hand made tortillas are killer!!! I would go back just for the tortillas! We had a sample of bean soup and it was delicious. The salsa bar was awesome! They had everything you would need, including cucumbers! I can't tell you how much my two toddlers love cucumbers and being able to give them a few while the food was ready was a life saver! Also a big plus, it's next door to Nekter!! My oldest doesn't really like meat and my youngest has a dairy allergy so it was really nice to be able to go next door and get them a healthy, safe drink. read more

I came here for lunch because my brother's friend raved about this place. First off, I was not expecting such authentic Mexican food in an Americanized suburban shopping center of San Marcos. A Mexican lady hand-makes their tortillas right in front of you! They have meat that's slow roasting over a fire, with giant pineapple slices for flavoring. My brother ordered carne asada and pastor tacos, along with ice cold Coronas for us. I ordered a garlic shrimp quesadilla--I didn't even know those existed til this place! He got his tacos fairly quickly, and was able to grab a handful of great-tasting salsas and grilled onions from the fully-stacked salsa bar. My garlic shrimp quesadilla took a while, and I started wondering if they forgot about it. Sure enough, they brought my order out to me-and I immediately understood why there was a wait. Stacked high on my plate was a giant quesadilla cut into four heavy slices. The garlic sauce was dripping on the plate, and the shrimp was bulging out of the hand-made tortilla. Let me just say, every bite of this quesadilla was pure bliss! There was so much cheese, sauteed shrimp, and sauce; it was bursting with flavor. It was so big, I could only finish half of it. I had to share it with my brother, who was more than happy to help after eyeing it since it arrived. This was hands down THE BEST QUESADILLA I've ever had in my life!! As for the atmosphere: it's a very clean restaurant with friendly staff, two big wall-mounted TVs, and fun music playing in the background. High quality meat and flavor, low quality chips. However, the meat is the main show: the chicken was surprisingly juicy and far from bland and the asada was prepped nicely. I used to love this place, but the owners used the pandemic shock to increase prices on all food items, making them the most expensive taqueria in north county. They also started to charge for condiments that were once free. The owner exploits customers and workers by not paying prevailing wages. I was shocked that I bought 4 tacos, a burrito and another item costing over 50! Are you serious? Gordon Ramsey or Anthony Burdain would never charge so much. My family and I come here at least once a week. I have referred many people including my boss to come and try. It does not disappoint in any factor. The tacos are awesome. They have a wide variety of Mexican plates. My family loves the flavor of the dishes. My favorite has to be the Ceviche Mazatleca. If you love spicy food you will devour the Ceviche (like I do.) The service is superb! It's kind of like a Cheers atmosphere. They remember you and always greet you so kindly. We've been coming since this place opened and have watched them grow. This place use to be great quality food and salsa (although a bit pricey). The area this shop is located in is probably the reason for the price so I understood and try to support local business. What I don't understand is why I now need to ask for salsa when the pricing is still high, even with a 2 salsa limit per item I guess giving more than 8 salsa for $60+ (5 items) in food is hard to ask for. Fish ceviche with no fish the worst ceviche I've ever had. Terrible calamari tacos they had absolutely no flavor and the breeding was over cooked and again not enough meat. When it came to the asada tacos well I wasnt that much impressed with the quality of the meat it didnt have much flavor i think if it wasnt for the diced onions, cilantro and the guacamole it would be a no no. But the guacamole was a great touch. Next the grilled chicken tacos i loved these! The chicken was all chicken breast and full of flavor! My boyfriend didnt like them so much though he rather stick with carnitas next time. The beef rolled tacos is what really won me over. I love rolled tacos and these definitely made it to my top!! Love this place! Been coming here since they've opened, but just now am I writing a review for them. Staff: great staff and super friendly. They're all awesome!! Food: Had all their tortas and I love them all, especially their pastor! The pastor can be dry, at times, but their green salsa solves the problem. I have notice less of the pineapple in their pastor, but nonetheless still worth it. Burnt would be nice if we got that flavor back. Their tacos are good! My favorite is their calamari. The calamari is good as a taco and burrito. Their tacos are good size tacos with their corn tortilla made right on the spot. Condiments are awesome and spicy! Their salsas are great and I love their carrots and red onion mix. The red onion mix is great, if you like spicy! I believe there is habanero in it spicy, but very good!! The reason for 4 stars is they will charge you $2 extra if you ask for your eggs in a breakfast burrito to not be cooked all the way. I had a carne asada burrito and my husband had an El Pastor burrito. Both were good, my husband burrito was greasy. My family and I used to frequent The Taco Bar, probably ate their twice a month when we first discovered it. We just went back after not being in for a while. They have SIGNIFICANTLY eliminated many items from their menu. I used to always order the hot shrimp quesadilla...when I tried to order a hot shrimp quesadilla this time they said they didn't have it. I asked for a regular shrimp quesadilla, nope. I asked don't you have shrimp/hot shrimp tacos?? The employee says "yes" so it would only be logical that they could put shrimp on a quesadilla...the girl taking my order said, just said "no shrimp quesadillas, we only do meat quesadillas". One of the best salsa bars in townwith 4 salsas, carrots, roasted peppers, limes, etc. I personally like their roasted salsa best. The carrots were cut too thick and not blanched long enough making them too crunchy for my personal liking. They have a wide variety of meats available for their tacos, tostadas, burritos, tortas, and sopes. I tried the carne asada and al pastor tacos. There tasty but both could have been juicier. It's not overly greasy like other taco shops and you will find a variety of unique flavors.
