I love this place, great food, family owned and friendly atmosphere. The owner was previously a sous chef at Atlanta Fish Company in buckhead. His concept is right on target for the area, have lunch at the Cantina a couple times a week. The chicken Milanesa Torta is one of the best sandwiches I have ever had. We stopped in for lunch today for the first time on a whim. We were warmly greeted and, since we were first timers, given a complete and mouthwatering rundown of the entire menu. We ordered one barbacoa torta and one chorizo torta to go. The sandwiches were made to order and hand pressed. We also ordered rice and beans with both sandwiches and they definitely do some magic on them because they were off the charts. Absolutely delicious. Although it is called Taco Cantina, be sure to order a torta. We will come back soon and often! read more

Let me start by saying that I personally believe that the reviews are fake.... my hubby and I tried this place about 10 minutes ago and the steak looks like chicken yes the same in color I ordered the steak asada I ate one it didn't taste anything like steak the salsa is store bought. My experience is a negative -1 the combo comes with white rice and canned black beans this is the worst Mexican restaurant I have ever ordered from. I do not recommend this place. read more

Another great Yelp find. Was by Cumberland mall and had a hankering for some tacos. I found the location easily and the parking is ample and convenient. I read the reviews prior to arriving so I already knew what I wanted and ordering was quick. The cashier was nice and the cooks were friendly as well. I ordered a chicken, steak, and shrimp taco. I enjoyed the variety of condiments that were self serve. I appreciated that the condiments were an enclosed refrigerator to ensure everything stayed fresh and tasty. The tacos were all really good. The chicken was juicy and seasoned nicely and the portions were ample. They give you two tortillas so I was making each taco into two regular sized ones. The steak was flavorful and not chewy or grisly. The shrimp was cooked nicely but I found the sauce to be a little sweet, but with the salsa I still enjoyed it a lot. The tortilla they use is the perfect size and is toasted so it doesn't fall apart like a lot of tortillas can do. They also provide a wide array of beers and beverages you wouldn't normally find. I look forward to coming back to try the tamale and I will go out of my way to come back for their tacos. read more

I ate here 6 months or so ago and was pleased enough - maybe 3 or 3.5 stars pleased. But this was a bummer. The chicken tinga burrito was the most canned and bland chicken I've tasted in many a moon, which is particularly annoying because that is what was recommended by the cashier. And the enchiladas - I got pork with verde sauce - were equally bland to the point I thought - and still am not convinced otherwise - that they were the canned chicken from the burrito. The guac was decent but for $4+ not a very large serving and not something I'd get again. And the salsa bar... meh. Great to have options but not a single one stood out to me. So, as much as I hate giving a bad rating, and as much as Mexican/Latin American food is my go-to, I have to say that this is one of the most negative experiences I've had at the many establishments I seek in my travels around the U.S. I do hope this was an off night for them and that they get their meats back up and running in flavorful condition. read more

I went to Taco Cantina for lunch and I must admit I was pleasantly surprised! This is coming from someone who absolutely loves tacos and I consider myself a taco subject matter expert. Lol! I ordered the Barbacoa, Asian Beef and Pezcado ala Parilla which came to a total of $8.00 including tax. The Barbacoa was absolutely delicious! The juiciness came rushing out of the back of the taco as soon as I bit into it so make sure to have plenty of napkins handy. The Pezcado taco had a refreshing flavor that I very much enjoyed. Very nice contrast between the Barbacoa and Pezcado. The Asian Beef was a nice mix of flavors but the sauce was a little salty for me. But don't get it twisted...I still devoured it. :) Overall, I was very pleased with the food! The restaurant is casual, cozy, clean and feels welcoming. It actually reminds me of Tacos La Villa but this place has that extra spark!!! I am so glad Taco Cantina is in the Smyrna neighborhood! read more

We went to this restaurant because we heard it is owned by an Atlanta chef who has much success in some of the city's best restaurants. Certainly this is Mexican fast food, but is authentic and it is very good. I tried several types of tacos and others in our party had the mexican version of a cuban sandwich. This place is the shit! We went based on Yelp ratings and were not disappointed at all. We got the Cuban (best I've ever had), and 3 tacos with rice and beans (barbacoa, pulled pork, and chicken tinga). The chicken was good but I will stick to the pork and barbacoa for sure because they were both amazingly flavorful and the chicken paled in comparison. The salsa bar was also very good, and I like how you pull the cover down when you are done so everything isn't just sitting out and exposed. They also have a great selection of beers.
