Taco Depot has terrific food. However, every time you go there....Literally EVERY SINGLE TIME... they will fuck up your order. My guess is, language barrier. The quality of the tacos can be a hit or miss depending on the cook, however, for .99 cents, its a great deal. This place lost a star because of their temperature system inside. The customer service has definitely gone down!! I really enjoy the food but I won't be returning. The last few times that I have ordered, my order was wrong. The very last time I ordered, the woman on the phone sounded as if I was inconveniencing her by calling. When I went to pick up my order, I paid and was left just standing there for 10 minutes. Finally a guy from behind the counter came and asked if I had been helped. When I told him name, he found that my order had been ready the whole time. The woman behind the counter didn't even bother to check if it was ready. Once I got home, the entire order was wrong. When it was returned, I was met with a very nasty attitude by the same woman. I don't understand how she was upset because I was returning an incorrect order. The service was much better before. I have become a fan of Taco Depot; great chips and salsa and $.99 tacos. When first going into the restaurant, my expectations were not very high because it isn't anything really classy and the outside doesn't look very clean. However, once inside, you are immediately greeted and seated. However, the inside seems a little outdated and the restaurant is fairly new. I was immediately served chips and salsa. I think I was won over by the chips and salsa. They are homemade and they were still hot from the fryer when served. When it was time to order, I ordered two chicken tacos on flour that was on the $.99 menu. I enjoyed the tacos, but it was missing something, they also have a homemade taco sauce that adds flavor to them. I enjoyed the food and it is a great lunch option. I believe the chips and salsa makes the restaurant, because that was the best thing that I had there. The servers are also very friendly; they are always making sure that we were doing okay. I was very pleased with the service. I would definitely recommend Taco Depot if you are looking for a cheap meal. However, I would suggest using the restroom before going because it literally stinks in their restrooms. It was hard for me to just wash my hands in there; now how do you think I would feel if I actually had to close the door and use the restroom. At the onset of a two day road trip we saw a guy on the side of the road, holding a sign advertising authentic Mexican food. This looked like a fantastic idea... And it was. (++) Yep, five stars. This place does not try to be anything more than a depot of tacos and for this humble honesty, I applaud them. Straight forward, simple, no frills, 99 cent tacos. (+) And there's a drive-through. (+) Cheese is extra; I don't mind. Carnitas, steak, chicken, pork, beef, or beans. The green sauce is preferred (we had mild when we ended up here again on the way home) and carnitas were my favorite. I also prefer onions and cilantro instead of lettuce and tomato, but they'll hit the spot either way. Definitely a better idea than Arby's, McDonalds, or other greasy fast food options. Wow, was I surprised by this place. I guess my expectations were low upon arrival (drive-thru, 99 cent taco special), so yes, I was prepared for some subpar mexican food. I ordered a chicken sope ($2.50) and two pork tacos (typically $1.89, but apparently all tacos are 99 cents right now). Chicken sope - perfectly heated thick corn shell - chewy, and just a little crispy. Typical toppings (lettuce, cheese, tomato, sour cream), but the chicken was clearly slow-cooked and shredded. That's a welcome relief from the gristly meat you get most taco stands. 9/10. Pork tacos - I worry when taco places have one "pork" taco. It can mean a lot of things. Here, it was darn close to "al pastor" which is my favorite type of taco. Marinated, bursting with spice and flavor, and the perfect balance of dry/tender. The pork tacos came with only cilantro and onion (as they should) and they were a steal for a buck. 9/10. The salsa verde gets an 8/10, the hot red gets a 7/10. Plenty of heat, but not much flavor. Oh, by the way, the man and woman working near the drive-thru were extremely friendly. I'm definitely coming back. read more

I really liked the vegetarian Big Boy burrito. It's pretty big and more than sufficient for lunch. It's probably like the same size as a Chipotle burrito. The flavor and all were good, except for the potatoes - I thought that tasted somewhat off in a burrito. Probably next time I'd order it without the potatoes. Great food. I have been going here for years. They have the best horchata in the NWI area. I love their flaming hot burritos and their Karla sauce. They also do an amazing job making their elotes (corn in a cup). Upon request they will layer your corn in a cup so that you get mayo, cheese, red pepper throughout the entire cup and not just on top. I just keep liking this place more and more. We went in last night to carryout their new charbroiled chicken family size dinner. For $14.99 you get enough chicken, tortillas, salsa and beans to feed 4 people. They are pretty stingy with the rice for some reason that I cannot understand but there is enough to feed 2-3. Great little quick spot to stop and get some mexican cuisine. They have the perfect sized mini-burrito which is about $2.95 that comes with your choice of meat, and cheese/lettuce/tomatoes (if my memory serves me right). I also ordered the steak fries once, which is an appetizer, but I won't get them again because I wasn't a fan of their fries. They were sort of cajun/season fries (kind of like Rally's or Checker's fast food fries). In my opinion, they she be regular style fries. Anyway, my friend loves their tacos, and they're only $1! Stopped at Taco Depot on the way from Chicago to Indianapolis. My wife had one fish and one veggie taco ($.99 each), my daughter had a kids quesadilla meal and I had a vegetarian burrito meal. All of the food was great. Chips and salsa were also very good. Service was outstanding! We make this trip many times during the year and will always plan on stopping at the Taco Depot along the way. read more
