If you're looking for this establishment, it's inside/connected to the gas station (but there's drive-thru service too). Wife scans the menu and decides on the one taco plate with asada and I opt for the two chicken enchilada plate; plates come with rice & beans + a fountain drink. We sit and wait, but the young girl working the counter was nice and brought out our food. Now the food isn't out of this world but has a homestyle taste (not over seasoned). My chicken enchiladas tasted like I was back in SD (@Roberto's) their red sauce allowed you to still taste the tortilla and chicken = simple & tasty. Their refried beans were smooth so there's probably plenty of lard while their rice was on the dry side almost a fried rice texture, LOL. My wife enjoyed her taco and the chips & salsa too (which are free if you're dining in. They have a small salsa bar but a big batch of pico de gallo which could use little more salt and lime (so just ask at the counter for those two items and voi-la. Honestly, this was the absolute worst California burrito I've ever ordered. We're traveling back to San Diego at a nearby hotel and it was so bad I gave it to the dog (she loved it!). I eat a cali burrito at least once per week but this "blend" of potatoes, onions, carne mush had a weird vinegar taste. The workers were incredibly friendly (+++) and the free chips and salsa bar was really nice (++), and I hate to give bad reviews but I wish I went to the Wendy's next door (yuck!) instead. I ordered a steak burrito and paid almost $16 for it, but there was no steak inside of it when I got home and the food was very bland. Also, this place asked for a tip in the drive-through as if they provided any service other than making the food and me paying for the food. I've been here about 4 times in the last two months. The first time, I was lucky enough to get the $1 taco Tuesday special. The deal was a good bargain. I tried the chicken and beef ones they had. The filling could have been more, but it's what you would expect for a $1. They're way better than anything you would get at Taco Bell or even the Jack in the box tacos. On my second visit I got the crunchy tacos paying full price, and I did notice the meat filling was substantially bigger. I got ground beef and shredded beef that time. The nachos al pastor were probably my favorite of the things I got that day. I tried the carne asada street tacos, but they were just OK. My family loved their carnitas. Their shredded chicken was good. I also highly recommend their super burrito carnitas. On a weekend I was also able to try their breakfast burritos. Price was maybe a $1 or $2 higher than what I would want to make it a regular spot for me. But the chorizo breakfast burrito is 5/5 stars. The bacon breakfast burrito is ranked lower for me. So at the end of the day, I'll be back for more pastor and carnitas, and possibly chorizo breakfast burritos. I got some coupons in the mail, so that helps in bringing down some of the costs. I also like that they have daily specials. There's so much more food I want to try. Oh their green salsa is great with the perfect amount of heat for me. I've only ever gone through their drive through. I've yet to go inside. As a drive through option I think it's great. All 4 times I went at different times, the lines were not bad, and service was fasts . I think some of the food pricing seems comparable to other Mexican restaurants in the area. You pay a little more on some items since you have the convenience of going through the drive through. But as mentioned before, the mail coupons and the daily special help to balance the order for a family of four. read more

Came here to support a Latino business, ordered a super burrito de asada that ran me about 18 bucks which is pretty crazy but didn't mind it until I opened my burrito and ate it. It was basically a sack of refried beans and sour cream with barely any meat in it lol. I paid 18$ for beans and sour cream and scraps of whatever tiny pieces of meat were in there. Don't even know if it was carne asada. Nothing more irritating than asking for something to go only to feel like they did you wrong knowing you wouldn't be in their face to confront them about it. Cause man, I even tipped a bit when paying. What a slap to a fellow Latinos face, lesson learned and I'll make sure to steer people away! The hours online are incorrect sadly i have come twice around 11 and they are closed which is disappointing :( But as far as the food, when i come during the day the food is fresh and filling! I actually love that this place is open till midnight. With that being said, I feel like the portions here are a bit on the smaller side. I feel like I paid too much for the amount of food I got. I ordered from door dash & I didn't see an option to order salsa. So sadly I ate my burrito without any salsa to accompany it. The burrito was skinnier than other California burritos I've had. It was a little salty, but maybe the salsa would have helped neutralize that. I thought the rice was good tho. If I try this place again, it would probably have to be in person. read more

I am obsessed with this place, what is happening because I literally crave food from here at least once a week, I have tried so many things on the menu and everything has been great, from the Carne Asada fries to the crispy tacos and enchiladas. They do not disappoint they have a drive-through which I absolutely love. I don't mind waiting a little bit longer for the food to be prepared. As long as I don't have to go in, the quality ingredients and the amount you get for what you pay for are top tier also the employees are very friendly! Love love love this hidden gem ! read more

We were craving birria ramen, but all the places we originally considered closed by 7-8 pm on a Thursday night. Then we saw Taco Express was open until midnight, sold. Initially pulling up, it was surprising to see that they were connected to the gas station, but it was still a full service restaurant with plenty of seating available both indoors and outdoors. When first walking in, there was an odor that was a little off-putting, but it was likely just from the food and a scent we weren't used to. However, the restaurant was clean, and we were greeted and able to order right away. We had four orders of their birria ramen. At first, I thought it was a bit overpriced at $14.99 each, as the picture on their menu showed a ramen cup of noodles, which we thought would be small and not filling. Boy, were we wrong. They have an amazing complimentary salsa bar with unlimited chips, salsa, pico de gallo, and cucumbers with tajin (it was my first time having it in a really long time), so delicious and refreshing. Now I'm hooked and just bought a bottle of tajin to sprinkle on my fruit and veggies at home! When our birria ramen came out, it was served in big bowls, similar to those used for pho. Self serve plastic utensils are on the counter. By the look of the broth, the kids were afraid it was going to be spicy, but it wasn't spicy at all! We added onions, cilantro, and lime. The dish was very flavorful and meaty. We were all so full we forgot we were supposed to grab dessert on the way home. If you're in the mood for a quick and tasty Mexican meal, I would definitely come here again. Next time I would try another dish as those look just as good! 4 stars because they charge $0.50 per water cup, yet have an unlimited salsa bar. Crunchy tacos - were very, very light meat inside. Was filled with lettuce, onions and expired Onions (gross) and not only that the lady didn't ask if we wanted everything of if we wanted onions or no onions. Meat had NO flavor whatsoever. We had gotten takeout simply because it was close by, and didn't have high expectations. However my family and I were very surprised and impressed. When we got home and were eating at the table, all of us immediately started talking about how good the food was, which rarely happens. From our experience, it's a step above other fast food taco bars we've been to. The quality of the ingredients and the preparation are better than most. I got the carnitas plate, my wife got the quesabirrias tacos, and my son the super nachos. The carnitas plate was incredible. The meat was flavorful and moist rather than dry and chewy, a problem I always encounter elsewhere. And, the first time my son tried the nachos he commented on how good it was and encouraged us to try. Then my wife, who usually doesn't like nachos, ended up eating nearly his entire plate. I stopped in for the first time on a Friday around 5:30 pm because it's close to my house. I ordered the Mexican burrito and a Quesabirria combo plate. They have a salsa and chip bar. They gave me a paper bag to fill with chips for my to go order. They only had one cook and one gal taking orders, but I still got my food pretty fast. The burrito was huge and filled with carne asada, rice, beans, cilantro and onion and spicy salsa. My husband and I spit it and we got full. My kid got the Quesabirria tacos combo with rice and beans and it was all delicious. It included the consommé for dipping. There was a weird odor as someone mentioned before but I smelled it when I entered the gas station mini mart since that is the entrance. The restaurant looked really clean. I will go back. read more

Authentic style Mexican food. Everything on the menu is packed with flavor. I've had the crispy, soft tacos, enchiladas, birria ramen, queso birra tacos, and my favorite, asada fries. I just found out Taco Xpress opened in the old Taco Bell location situated in the same building with the Chevron gas station so the kid said...."Let's Go!" As of April 06, 2024, it's a soft opening and I noticed no one has given a Yelp review so I'm able to be the first person to review it. Wahoooo! The nice lady behind the counter said their official opening will be on Monday April 08th. The hijo and I ordered the birria taco combo with consume and it was very good for a fast food setting. Mi esposa got a ground beef burrito and she gave it a thumbs up.
