Picked up a burrito and street tacos! The burrito was stuffed with carnitas no beans and had a solid weight to it and tasted even better! The street tacos were just ok. Pretty basic an average. The service was friendly and professional. If I'm in the area and in a hurry this is usually the pick up and go spot.

Honestly, this was the absolute worst California burrito I've ever ordered. We're traveling back to San Diego at a nearby hotel and it was so bad I gave it to the dog (she loved it!). I eat a cali burrito at least once per week but this "blend" of potatoes, onions, carne mush had a weird vinegar taste. The workers were incredibly friendly (+++) and the free chips and salsa bar was really nice (++), and I hate to give bad reviews but I wish I went to the Wendy's next door (yuck!) instead. Maybe others have a better experience with other food.

Carne asada nachos So much carne you can't see the chips! Took a second pic to show it after mixed up $15, but enough for 2 to share

Pregnancy craving- Carne Nachos Quick yelp search, saw nachos at Taco Exxpress & bonus because it's a drive through so I didn't have to get dressed Ordered, $15 tried to not get my hopes up When he handed me the bag and I could feel the weight & knew it was going to be good! Opened the box and was shocked by the dense carne! Craving cured Definitely enough to share

Combination #4 Taquitos Rice & beans were good. But the taquitos had no flavor even with the salsa

Was happy to find a taqueria opened at 10pm at night in Elk Grove and a drive thru! We ordered a ground beef super burrito. It was delicious but if I had to compare it other super burritos from other restaurants, it was not "super" but looked like a regular size burrito. And pictured was our #4 taquitos combo. Sadly, it had no taste even with the salsa.

Do not eat here! This place has roaches as I found one in my food. Horrible experience and they will be reported.

Can't beat $1 tacos for taco Tuesday. The tacos were okay, nothing to rave about , not that much meat and the tortillas definitely weren't fresh, but hey you get what you pay for. I like they do have a drive through. Service was pretty standard, the lady was decent. That's why I give this place a solid 3. Let's note that I have only been here once and I haven't been back so it's not somewhere to go out of your way to, but if your in the area and want something cheap check it out.

I actually love that this place is open till midnight. With that being said, I feel like the portions here are a bit on the smaller side. I feel like I paid too much for the amount of food I got. I ordered from door dash & I didn't see an option to order salsa. So sadly I ate my burrito without any salsa to accompany it. The burrito was skinnier than other California burritos I've had. It was a little salty, but maybe the salsa would have helped neutralize that. I thought the rice was good tho. If I try this place again, it would probably have to be in person.

    Breakfast burrito, chorizo and bacon

I've been here about 4 times in the last two months. The first time, I was lucky enough to get the $1 taco Tuesday special. The deal was a good bargain. I tried the chicken and beef ones they had. The filling could have been more, but it's what you would expect for a $1. They're way better than anything you would get at Taco Bell or even the Jack in the box tacos. On my second visit I got the crunchy tacos paying full price, and I did notice the meat filling was substantially bigger. I got ground beef and shredded beef that time. The nachos al pastor were probably my favorite of the things I got that day. I tried the carne asada street tacos, but they were just OK. My family loved their carnitas. Their shredded chicken was good. I also highly recommend their super burrito carnitas. On a weekend I was also able to try their breakfast burritos. Price was maybe a $1 or $2 higher than what I would want to make it a regular spot for me. But the chorizo breakfast burrito is 5/5 stars. The bacon breakfast burrito is ranked lower for me. So at the end of the day, I'll be back for more pastor and carnitas, and possibly chorizo breakfast burritos. I got some coupons in the mail, so that helps in bringing down some of the costs. I also like that they have daily specials. There's so much more food I want to try. Oh their green salsa is great with the perfect amount of heat for me. I've only ever gone through their drive through. I've yet to go inside. As a drive through option I think it's great. All 4 times I went at different times, the lines were not bad, and service was fasts . I think some of the food pricing seems comparable to other Mexican restaurants in the area. You pay a little more on some items since you have the convenience of going through the drive through. But as mentioned before, the mail coupons and the daily special help to balance the order for a family of four.

    Yummy birria ramen.
    Melissa T.

We were craving birria ramen, but all the places we originally considered closed by 7-8 pm on a Thursday night. Then we saw Taco Express was open until midnight, sold. Initially pulling up, it was surprising to see that they were connected to the gas station, but it was still a full service restaurant with plenty of seating available both indoors and outdoors. When first walking in, there was an odor that was a little off-putting, but it was likely just from the food and a scent we weren't used to. However, the restaurant was clean, and we were greeted and able to order right away. We had four orders of their birria ramen. At first, I thought it was a bit overpriced at $14.99 each, as the picture on their menu showed a ramen cup of noodles, which we thought would be small and not filling. Boy, were we wrong. They have an amazing complimentary salsa bar with unlimited chips, salsa, pico de gallo, and cucumbers with tajin (it was my first time having it in a really long time), so delicious and refreshing. Now I'm hooked and just bought a bottle of tajin to sprinkle on my fruit and veggies at home! When our birria ramen came out, it was served in big bowls, similar to those used for pho. Self serve plastic utensils are on the counter. By the look of the broth, the kids were afraid it was going to be spicy, but it wasn't spicy at all! We added onions, cilantro, and lime. The dish was very flavorful and meaty. We were all so full we forgot we were supposed to grab dessert on the way home. If you're in the mood for a quick and tasty Mexican meal, I would definitely come here again. Next time I would try another dish as those look just as good! 4 stars because they charge $0.50 per water cup, yet have an unlimited salsa bar. If patrons are dining in, water cups should be complimentary. We opted to grab our waters from the car.

Chicken crispy and beef tacos on Taco Tuesday
    Sarah T.

Service is ok but love their taco Tuesday deal. I really like their crispy chicken tacos. You can grab your own salsa and chips as well.

Tried Taco Exxpress for the very first time and my family are I are extremely disappointed. The pictures on the windows looked delicious. So we finally gave in (bad idea). Crunchy tacos - were very, very light meat inside. Was filled with lettuce, onions and expired Onions (gross) and not only that the lady didn't ask if we wanted everything of if we wanted onions or no onions. Meat had NO flavor whatsoever. The expired onion flavor was GROSS AF!!! Birria Ramen - noodles were over cooked and NO FLAVOR VERY BLAND! Birria was OVER cooked as well which left the whole dish very DISGUSTING! And I don't even want to get started on the rice and beans... 4 DISAPPOINTED NEW CUSTOMERS 5 thumbs ALLLL THE WAY DOWN

The staff is super attentive and ready to fill your cups or take away any finished dishes. Tonight I had the plum salad. Sounded a little on the wild side but it was amazing! So sweet and refreshing I ate every bit of it! Loved it! For my entree I picked the braised short ribs .. it was so tender! I was put off by the blue cheese mash beneath it a bit but it's ok because the short rib was so delicious. For dessert I had the berry crumb cobbler. The cobbler came with a dollop of vanilla ice cream on top. It was great! The berries were sweet and the crumb top was so buttery. Everything flowed deliciously. My husband had the filet mignon.. he said it was made medium rare just as he asked. And of course the crème brûlée is the reason why he keeps coming back lol My go to for fine dining in Elk Grove! I made a reservation inquiry for my birthday at exactly 5:00 PM on Saturday, April 11, for a party…read moreof two. I was told the earliest available reservation was 7:45 PM. I then asked if there was any chance of being seated sooner as a walk-in, and Aubrey told me they had room for two at a table in the bar area. I specifically asked whether it was an actual table where we could comfortably order food, because I did not want to be stuck at some tiny corner setup where only one plate could fit. I also made it clear that it was my birthday and that I wanted something a little more formal and comfortable. I was told it would be in the front by the bar, not shoved in a corner, though it could be a little crowded if people were in the waiting area. When we arrived, the first issue was parking. For a first-time guest, parking was unnecessarily difficult to figure out, especially during a rainstorm. Since the restaurant is set up like a small house, it was not obvious where to park, and there was no clear sign letting us know there was parking around the back. Once we walked in, I immediately saw the table that had been described to us. It was right near the bar against the wall, and it was much smaller and more awkward than I had been led to believe. My girlfriend was wearing a dress, and because it was such a high table, it made it uncomfortable for her to sit naturally and comfortably. As soon as we sat down, I looked at the table and asked if we were really going to be able to order multiple items and eat comfortably there. I was told they would "pace it" and "make it work." That should have been the warning sign right there. We started with two ice waters, and even that nearly filled the table. They brought a pitcher and poured the water into the glasses. I asked for a separate cup of ice, and because there was so little room on the table, I had to ask the waiter to take the glass back and pour it for me so I would not spill everything. That is how cramped this setup was. We ordered the chicken breast special and a half dozen oysters. First came the garlic bread, and now we had bread, butter, two waters, silverware everywhere, and barely any room left. Then the oysters arrived, and everything had to be shifted around just to make it fit. At that point, the table had bread, oysters, hot sauce, waters, and multiple pieces of silverware for each guest, and it felt like one wrong move would send a glass to the floor. After we finished the oysters and bread, they cleared the table and brought out our entrée. We ordered the shareable chicken breast after I specifically asked whether it would be enough food for both of us. The waiter said it should be. In reality, it was about four small pieces of chicken once cut, three asparagus spears, and two very small scoops of mashed potatoes. For the price, it was honestly disappointing. I cannot remember the last time I paid that much at a nicer restaurant and still left hungry. What made it worse was that they knew it was my birthday and did absolutely nothing to acknowledge it. No small dessert, no candle, no gesture, nothing. Ironically, the only people who made the night feel special were another couple who had apparently been dining there for years. They overheard us mention it was my birthday and kindly bought us two sparkling wines. That was thoughtful, but it also added even more clutter to an already ridiculously tiny table. The service overall was underwhelming. We were barely checked on, and the whole experience felt awkward. The hostess kept staring at us throughout the meal, and at one point, she rolled her eyes when she went to take the Tabasco sauce, and we told her we still needed it for the chicken. For the prices Boulevard Bistro charges, I expected much better service, better communication, and a much more comfortable dining experience. Instead, the whole night felt misleading, cramped, and disappointing. I will not be coming back.

This is a fair review…read more Mimi's is definitely a cozy spot with excellent staff, but quality can be hit or miss. I've been dining at Mimi's Cafe for many years, and while it still holds a lot of cozy charm, it's definitely a mixed bag now vs. 15-20 yrs ago. It was 5 stars back then. The Positives... *Friendly Staff: The service here is consistently warm, welcoming, and accommodating. *Cozy Ambience: The restaurant provides a great, comfortable atmosphere that is particularly relaxing and ideal for older adults. Tbh I have an old soul with some social anxiety. So Mimi's became an instant fav in my 20s for the ambience alone. *Great Brunch Selections: The menu offers a fantastic variety that is perfect for breakfast or brunch. It's truly all about the brunch at Mimi's! I don't think they could ever mess up a pancake, waffle, or French toast. *The muffins: Their muffins are unbeatable! So delicious and fresh. The Downsides... *Bland Flavors: Certain classic menu items have become a bit bland and lack the rich, robust taste they had 15 to 20 years ago. *High Price Point: For the quality you receive, the prices feels a bit too high. Plus they have done away with the free bread and carrot cake baskets. Although I believe they may still give you free bread, but you'll have to ask. *Timing Affects Quality: The timing of your order matters immensely. If you order a breakfast item during evening hours, parts of it might arrive tasting old, hard, and reheated. Recommendation:It remains a wonderful place for breakfast and brunch.

Trio: Chips were terribly stale, artichoke dip looked old, old, old and tasted old too. Quesadilla lacked flavor. The wings were just okay. French pot roast- Over sauces so you can't taste anything else. Half Chicken- was so old and zero flavor. I was surprised they were not embarrassed to serve us that meal. The soda was completely FLAT. We tipped the server his 20%, not his fault the food was horrid. We will never return. They might be great at just breakfast, I don't know. We took the French pot roast home, rinsed off the sauce and fed it to our dog.

Scrambled eggs were good too. My husband got the chorizo burrito with tater tots on the side. He liked the burrito but said it did have little kick to it. The tots were fried to perfection and not oily. My brother ordered the "Dad's Mash Up," all kinds of stuff (breakfast meats and cheese) served on top of tots and covered in gravy. It was a pile of food, no complaints from my bro. Service was great and welcoming as soon as we walked in. No wait on a Wednesday morning, but I imagine there is on the weekends. I let our server know it was my brother's birthday, and after we were finishing up our meals, they brought him a complimentary small plate of the strawberry French toast! That was a fantastic way to end his celebratory breakfast. My only complaint, which is more of a suggestion, is to have flavored cream available besides half and half. The coffee is strong and delicious and our cups were never empty. Thank you, Jamie and staff, for a wonderful and yummy first visit. We'll be back!

When she returned, she said she would bring water, even though we were already ready to order. It took a while for the water to arrive. * Later, we requested a water refill, which she acknowledged, but it appeared to be forgotten. The refill only came when we were getting ready to leave, at which point she apologized. Although it was a Sunday brunch service, the restaurant did not seem busy enough to fully explain the level of disorganization. Food: Breakfast is available all day. Cali Benedict with avocado, tomatoes, and arugula D. Smoked Salmon Benedict The Club Sandwich also comes with a generous portion size. We were seated in the outside patio, no music, just quiet enough to hear every tables conversation. After taking our order, we asked for waters, which was dropped off to us almost 20 minutes later. I chose the mashed potatoes as my side and they were creamy with chunks of potato whipped within. They were topped with country gravy, turning these spuds into full-on comfort food. The cornbread was a large, satisfying portion; the whipped butter and honey on top rounded it out nicely and made it feel like a classic diner treat. Vegetable and Salad The vegetable side was the one miss on the plate. The zucchini, broccoli, squash and carrots seemed to be steamed and were noticeably overcooked and sitting in water, which made them soggy. The side salad, on the other hand, was solid. I opted for blue cheese dressing, which tasted like it was made in-house and added a lot of flavor. There were a few pieces of lettuce with brown edges that I just removed, but overall the salad was fresh enough and a nice way to start the meal. Service was friendly from the moment we walked in. We were greeted right away, offered a choice of a booth or table, and seated quickly, even though it was senior night and the discount window can draw a crowd. The interior looks and feels like a classic diner: red accents, country-style decor on the walls, a TV with the news playing, and a front counter where you pay as you leave. Near the entrance there's a pie case showing off their desserts--in particular, an apple pie that looked very tempting and is on my list to try next time. Overall, Original Mike's Diner delivers satisfying diner food, warm service, and a straightforward, old-school atmosphere, with the Broaster chicken and sides carrying the experience. The overcooked veggies keep it from being a perfect visit, but the generous senior discount and friendly staff make this an easy 4-star spot I'm happy to return to--especially on Thursday nights. Simply Wonderful!!
