Outside... corner of Bishop Street and Hotel Street

Lunch in Downtown Honolulu, Hawaii... Located on the busy corner of Hotel Street and Bishop Street, Taco Kabana has been here a long time - around nine years? but the parking was the main obstacle for me... ...until I read the street signs and came to the conclusion that parking in a loading zone is free on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays! Yay! TI: Don't come here on a Sunday - they're not open! Come on a Saturday when the Downtown workers aren't there! No lines! No crowds! More parking! Yeah - I parked almost right in front of the entrance on Bishop Street... in the loading zone... I was so happy! Inside, the strong odor of clorox (or some type of cleaning solution) hit me hard. Yuk! I sat on the other side of the room where ventilation was better! At the counter, I ordered three tacos, but one at a time so that they were each hot and fresh. First, I got a Fish Taco... WOW! It was so fresh that it was almost sweet! It had no batter! It was just purely grilled... simple and delicious! It was piled with lettuce and lots of fish! No skimping here! Next, I tried the Veggie Taco... yes! There were some beans, rice, cheese, sour cream, tomatoes, onions, and lettuce! The combination was great! My last taco was Pork (carnitas)... because they had run out of lengua (tongue) and they didn't have adobada. Shucks! However, the pork was SUPER tasty and tender! It was grilled just right so that there was a slight crisp! I could taste a tiny bit of salt - just enough to pop the flavor! Whoa! This place is legit! It also has a convenient restroom for customers... that's a rare thing in Downtown! Service was very friendly, helpful, and welcoming! Thank you!

If you wanna get some Mexican food in downtown for lunch, this might satisfy your craving. They got a good selection of protein and types of food like quesadilla, salad, tacos, burritos, burrito bowls, even chimichangas! I got the chicken, fish and steak tacos. The flavor was pretty good, but I had to not treat it like Mexican food to enjoy the meal... I'm not sure why the tomatoes and onions were so coarsely chopped up. They looked like vegetables ready for stir fry not for toppings in Mexican food. Then the sauce they drizzle on top tasted interesting, but glad there's some salsa verde in a separate container to eat my food with. The fish was seasoned well, but it's very soft and just broke apart when I picked up the taco. Didn't seem the be the right kind of fish to be used in tacos. The steak and the chicken meat were good. I mean I finished all my food. They tasted decent. Not too salty or sweet, nor underwhelming or overpowering in any sort. If you go in not thinking it's Mexican food, then you wouldn't be disappointed. The place had quite a few tables and it's packed during lunchtime. There was an empty table that no one took. I didn't get why until I sat down and realized the light underneath the spinning fan was shining on the table like a strobe light. I didn't wanna get a seizure while I was eating so I moved to the counter standing area by the window to eat my food. Overall, ok, not bad. There definitely could be room for improvement. If they could do that, I'm sure there would be more people visiting.

This was today's veggie burrito. I usually enjoy your burritos here but today's was definitely an exception. Unfortunately, I did not see how burnt the burrito was until I opened it to eat it after I had left the place. Please do better by your customers next time.

I took my husband to Taco Kabana yesterday for the first time. I had been there before and raved about it to him but we hadn't had a chance to go together but we finally did yesterday and he was sooo impressed. He had three street tacos and they were made to perfection. The service was great and they definitely gave service with a smile. We actually ate in the dining area. I usually get my food to go, so it was nice to have time to sit and enjoy our meal. The dining area is clean and well lit. We truly enjoyed the time that we spent there, we definitely be returning for another visit soon.

They are still a pretty solid Mexican food place in downtown they moved to a larger spot right in the corner or Bishop St and Hotel St. I recently enjoyed their chicken salad and love that they also put a few tortilla chips in there. Generous portion and tasty! The service was efficient and friendly and there are inside tables to eat at.

I've been coming here since it was in its original location. Consistently good food, good service, and your order comes out pretty quick.

Manager said he was busy and can't take care of everyone! What!!!! I saw the reviews and thought i would try it. Bad move... i called and made my order with the manager or owner and ordered the chicken bowl and asked if they make wet burrito and he said he would. So I said would you wet a carne Asada nachos instead of a chicken burrito as I have the bowl. He said he will do it or otherwise I wouldn't have ordered it as I hate nachos that the chips are dry and not coated. His word is hisword and should be honored. Got home far away and had nothing so I called and they was closed already. I never eat it because I don't like them dry. I called when they reopened. The same man Manager answered and told me he will give a 50% discount on one item. I was mad at his answer. He made the mistake and I didn't eat it and I brought it on his word that he would do what he said. So I took his offer so I can tell him the truth how I feel. I liked the chicken bowl the first time so I ordered that. I showed up and started to tell him how I felt. I said first of all you made the mistake and I didn't eat it then you want me to pay for your mistake. Then he had the audacity to say we was busy and I can't take care of everyone. DONT MATTER BUSY OR NOT IF SOMEONE ORDERS A SPECIAL ORDER AND YOU SAY YOUR GOING TO DO IT, THEN DO IT. OTHERWISE I WOULDN'T HAVE ORDERED IT. So why should people eat your place if you can't KEEP YOUR WORD!!! His attitude and disrespect was unbelievable. I WILL NEVER EVER EAT THERE AGAIN. WHEN YOU MAKE A MISTAKE YOU ADMIT IT AND HONOR YOUR WORD. And the chicken bowl wasn't good the Second time. First time chicken was cut small and second time was long big pieces which thru off the ratio of ingredients. Not good and VERY DRY. RICE DRY AND CHICKEN. NOTHING LIKE THE FIRST ONE. THE MAN MADE IT BETTER

Hole in the wall place, no frills, but good food. I got the bowl with steak and it was delicious. You order at the counter, pay, and go sit down. They'll bring you the food. Definitely worth a visit. Parking up front but it's a busy street. Good quick service and good prices.

Our server, Mandy, was the absolute sweetest! She made sure my dog got her steak prepared and even brought her a delicious pup cup for dessert. Cutlery definitely knows how to do dog-friendly dining right! For starters, we had the escargot, which was super good! I do wish the bread was a little softer, but honestly, it didn't take away from the dish. We also got the duck fat fries, and those were --crispy, flavorful, and done so well! For our main course, we had the braised beef pasta, and it was TO DIE FOR. They were definitely generous with the beef, so you're getting your money's worth. And of course, we had to finish with the crème brûlée. It was creamy, delicious, and the perfect way to end the night. Overall, I had such a great experience and will definitely be coming back--especially because my dog loved it just as much as I did!

I like sitting at the bar, so that's where we decided to sit, and the service was excellent. The menu is pretty much what you'd expect from a classic steakhouse: soups, salads, steaks, and traditional sides like fries and grilled asparagus. For my main course, I had the Beef Wellington, and it was phenomenal. The steak was perfectly cooked, and the crispy, flaky outside was delicious. It came with a baked potato, and they brought all the fixings--sour cream, chives, and bacon--to the table and dress your potato for you. The potato was delicious, and the side of vegetables was just what was needed to round out the meal. We ended the evening with a flourless chocolate cake, which was also excellent. Overall, it was a great night and a really enjoyable meal. Definitely worth checking out if you're looking for a nice dinner or a place to celebrate something special!

We both ordered the ribeye steak, mashed potato, asparagus and fried rice. Both ribeye steaks were cooked to the exact doneness. The size of the ribeye steak was pretty big. Luckily I was very hungry so I finished my steak. The asparagus was very delicious and the mashed potato was very delicious too. Our server, Elijah did an excellent job answering any questions and was very attentive to what we ordered. When the meals came in. He even asked to double check the doneness of the steak by cutting it right down the middle and it was cooked to perfection. I don't remember the last time I went to a steak restaurant other than my birthday, so it's very rare to go to a restaurant and order steak. So this was a large treat to me. The restaurant had a very nice atmosphere with the lighting dim and the music very soft. This restaurant was very busy luckily we just wanted a seating for two even though they asked if we had a reservation and we didn't so we got lucky.

Our…read morereservation was for 5:00 p.m., during the restaurant's advertised happy hour, which runs until 7:00 p.m. Before arriving, we had looked at the happy hour menu online and assumed those selections would be available during that time. We were seated in the dining room and ordered drinks, but no one mentioned that happy hour was restricted to a different seating area. It was only after we received the dinner menus, noticed the happy hour selections were missing, and specifically asked our waiter about them that we were told the happy hour menu could not be ordered in the dining area. By then, we had already ordered our drinks at full price. I think this is something the restaurant should make much clearer on its website and during the reservation and seating process. If a 5:00 p.m. reservation places guests in an area where the advertised happy hour does not apply, that should be disclosed before they are seated, or at minimum before they begin ordering. The difference affects not only price, but also the food selections available and the overall dining experience. Our group was actually a little stumped by the regular dinner menu because the options were much more limited than what we had been looking at online. I asked specifically about the Scallops Dynamite because I do not tolerate spicy food well. I told our waiter that I did not like spicy food, and he explained that the dynamite sauce could be served on the side and that the scallops themselves were basically seasoned with seeds. Unfortunately, even without the sauce, the scallops were extremely spicy. I could barely eat them. The heat was intense enough that I drank my entire glass of water and then much of my daughter's trying to cool my mouth. When the waiter came back and asked how everything was, I told him directly that I could not eat the scallops because they were far too spicy. He smiled and walked away. There was no offer to replace them, remake them without the spicy seasoning, suggest another entrée, or even acknowledge that the dish was not what I had been led to expect. That was probably the most disappointing part of the experience. At a restaurant at this price point, where many items are à la carte, I would expect the staff to be more attentive to whether a guest can actually enjoy the meal, especially after the guest specifically asked about the spice level before ordering. There was also a smaller moment that reflected the overall lack of attention to detail. Our guest of honor arrived wearing two leis, and the waiter immediately said, "Happy Birthday." He had to correct him and explain that he was actually leaving the islands. A more polished approach would have been something simple like, "Are we celebrating anything special tonight?" It could just as easily have been a birthday, promotion, retirement, anniversary, or farewell. I dine out and travel frequently, so I understand that not every meal or service interaction will be perfect. But several things missed the mark here, and together they changed what should have been a special farewell dinner. We will not be returning, but I do hope management takes the feedback constructively, particularly regarding clearer disclosure of the happy hour seating restrictions and how staff respond when a guest clearly cannot eat the dish they ordered. My advice for first time diners is ask where you will be seated if you're hoping for a full menu option during happy hour. The website is misleading.

Since it was late, we noticed the back of house staff help the front. Everyone was so friendly and food comes out fast. The only reason for the 4 stars instead of 5 is because the food was a bit too flavorful - we all agreed that everything was slightly salty. I could also say portion of some items may not match price, but I understand inflation is increasing at an alarming rate. So I'll leave money out of this. Crushed cucumbers were interesting. We couldn't decide if eating it with chopsticks or spoon was better. With chopsticks, you might not get enough sauce. But you could taste the layers of flavor. With a spoon, you get too much saltiness. The spice hits at the end. The tako karaage were a little too chewy for us. Beef tongue was so tender. A definite must order. I dont think it needs rice though. We also ordered the late night nikumiso but it didn't come with an egg, which the menu said it should. We tried handful more items but we'll be back to try the oxtail items, as it sounds like that's their specialties, but takes extra time to prepare.

The pear salad has amazing fresh pear slices with a wonderful complement of greens, cheese and salad dressing. I'll definitely go back during my next trip.

Was full so did not order desert but was brought out a complimentary slice of cake that after one bite could not say no to. Thank you for ending my vacation on a high note. The happy hour is limited to the bar, but there are so many good options, including some seafood favorites like Kona lobster toast, oysters, spicy ahi tacos, and even a NY strip! I had the oysters and spicy ahi tuna tacos, and both were so good. My mom got the bone marrow prime beef burger and fries, which was put together table side. Such a fun presentation and the burger was delicious! I also had the Stripsteak martini, which came with black truffle and blue cheese-stuffed olives. Definitely a fun drink if you like a dirty martini! Overall, this was such a great spot to stop for happy hour. The food felt really high quality, the service was great, and there were so many things I wanted to try. If you're looking for an upscale happy hour with amazing food, definitely check out Stripsteak. 10/10 recommend!
