I always love Taco Palenque. Usually. Their food is consistently great. This morning, they forgot something. I ordered some breakfast tacos through Uber Eats. It was delivered FAST. (Kudos to the Uber Eats drivers) When it arrived I dug into the sack for my egg and chorizo tacos. To my surprise,... No Salsa. Taco Palenque's salsa is delicious. The perfect amount of spice and heat.... Except when there isn't any. My first thought was maybe I forgot to order salsa with my tacos... So I went back to the Uber Eats menu. No option for ordering salsa. I assumed they always include salsa... Except if they forget. I'll forgive the lack of salsa, and will return to Taco Palenque. But come on guys... Throw some salsa in every bag, and make it an option on the Uber Eats menu. read more

The service is pretty quick you order then they give you a number and you grab a seat. The ambience feels pretty lively. Culebra/1604 Once a great place for a good meal. Lately they are way overpriced, a picadillo taco at this location nearly six dollars for hamburger meat. Then again once you could say we'll its a big taco, not anymore.. Here comes the TP decline, 6 dollar cold taco with very little picadillo in it. Taco Palenque never lets me down! I came right after a food poisoning incident I had at taco cabana not too far from Taco Palenque. I went there instead of here to save a buck and it BACKFIRED. I'll never cheat on you again! Service is always 10/10 they let me take my time ordering with 0 attitude! Restaurant is always clean with friendly staff! Definitely a great spot to sit down anytime! Doesn't get sketchy after a certain time either! 10/10 I would recommend. Only issue I had was my sweet tea wasn't that sweet but I'd rather have it under-sweetened rather than over! Pro tip: go in and enjoy if you can. The drive thru is great too, but indoors you have the salsa and chip bar and it's unlimited. My favorite salsa is the salsa quemada. I normally get the matamoros tacos which is a sirloin with guacamole and queso fresco on corn tortillas. Ask for limes on the side and I prefer my tacos a little more crispy because I like the crunch. Their classic bean and cheese is also delicious. I mean it when I say I'm pleasantly surprised. I'd never been in one of these before. Clean. Modern. Festively decorated. Better than average Salsa bar. TVs with sports. Raging mariachi music! Spacious seating. Oh and good food and service. The pretty lady behind the counter helped this güero decide what to get and told me what many people typically order. I had the matamoros taco combo with nuts jo beans and a Barbacoa taco. Yum! I actually thought about ordering a burrito for later because I saw a dude get one the width of his forearm and it made me envious. The salsa bar was fresh, clean and organized. The trays are on top. I was visiting my son and asked him if he had any recommendations for a good Mexican restaurant to eat at after my visit and he suggested Taco Palenque. Apparently he and my granddaughter's love that place and they convinced me to go. The bonus was that I had my niece with me and they just happen to have an indoor playground for her to play in. They have an awesome menu with plenty to choose from. I chose the tampiquena for me and my niece wanted a quesadilla. The tampiquena plate consisted of an enchilada, fajitas, and a picadillo crispy taco. It was all delicious. The fajitas were tender, the enchilada was good, and the refried beans were unusally good for a fast food restaurant. My 8 year old niece kept saying how good her quesadilla was. The bonus about this place and probably what makes it stand apart from other taco places is their vast salsa bar. They have at least 6 different salsas, chips, radishes, cucumbers, cabbage, pico de gallo, and other condiments, too many too list all. All of it looked fresh, well maintained and was constantly restocked. My niece loves cucumbers and kept going back for more. She also loved my fajitas and finished them all. Stopped by the drive through at Taco Palenque Culebra in the morning during a long drive. What I like about this taco joint is that they have a good selection of different tacos. I went with two, al pastor and the other is escaping me. You can also choose your choice of a few different salsas. In need of some late night food after visiting some friends. One option we found was Taco Palenque. I'm not from around here and I've never heard of them, but hey, they're open and I'm hungry. We ended up ordering a couple Super Papas, a Sirloin burrito and a few tacos. The Super Papas is a cross between Carne Asada fries and a baked potato. The Super Papas came with a huge baked potato. Which was buttery and tender. Toppings included a good amount of cheese, bacon, sour cream, green onions and carne Asada. Or I guess they call it "Papa Asada" here. The meal also came with a bag of chips and some salsa. And their salsa is spicy! I did like this spin on a baked potato/carne Asada fries. The tenderness of the huge potato really made this dish. The Sirloin Burrito was your standard burrito. Nothing to write home about. On the smaller side from what I'm used to seeing in San Diego. It was ok. My friend had the tacos and he said they were pretty good. Overall, I liked that the restaurant looked clean. The service was great. And the food was very satisfying. I often grab lunch and or dinner from Taco Palenque. I love that they are open 24 /7 for delicious Mexican food. My favorite is the double beef fajitas quesadilla, the red hot salsa, and my son loves the the fideo. They have some amazing tortillas they you can buy by the dozen. I love there refried beans. Since I'm from the area where Taco Palenque originated, I seriously probably have had Taco Palenque food close to a hundred times in my life. I was surprised that I hadn't reviewed any in San Antonio. For this Taco Palenque, I definitely noticed a few differences in the menu, compared to the ones in Laredo. Didn't matter much, as the food tastes the same. My only negative feedback about Taco Palenque is that their food is overpriced, compared to other Mexican Restaurants. However, I would say the food at Taco Palenque is solid! I actually use Taco Palenque as a measuring standard for other Mexican restaurants: if the food is better than Taco Palenque that place is great, if not then it's mediocre and not worth my time. Now to get to the food here, the Piratas are delicious. Three simple ingredients in a taco that work marvelously together: beans, fajita, and cheese. Usually one pirata fills me up, unless I'm really starving. The other types of tacos are also solid, from the Matamoros to Casero. My favorite item at Taco Palenque are the Panchos. I can't really explain it, but their cheese, beans, fajita, and avocado (and green salsa) just do the trick for me each time, especially at night. On 12/30 at 11:30am, my husband and I and our 2 kids went to this location as we've gone hundreds of times. However, what we saw firsthand and how the manager failed to handle the situation left us no choice but to never return here again...and to report the incident to the health department and file a complaint. While the exterior and dining area appear to be quite presentable and clean, it's the behaviors of the staff that has me quite disgusted. There was a woman wearing the drive thru headset that was preparing a taco. First, she was touching everything without any gloves, (in fact, no one was wearing any gloves or any hairnets for that matter). As a person that works drive thru, you typically should NOT touch food directly because you are handling money and cards, thereby contaminating the food if you touch it. She proceeded to touch a tortilla, grab foil to place the tortilla inside the foil, she grabbed chicken (again, barehanded) and then LICKED HER FINGERS! Then she went over to the grill to flip tortillas and back to the register to continue to take to-go orders and I assume payments. I am a former ServSafe instructor and proctor, so I can count soooooo many issues with this entire scenario! I then asked to speak with the manager on duty while my family was at the register. We ultimately decided NOT to eat at this establishment due to the disgusting behavior that we witnessed. However, before we left, a woman approached as the manager on duty. She was on her phone texting when the cashier went to approach her for me. When she came to me, I explained the situation and her first initial explanation was "she was making herself something to eat!" WHAT?!?!?! Again I explained to her that she in fact went back to the grill and back to work! Are they eating while preparing food or serving customers? I could very clearly see that by her explanation and the smile on her face the entire time she would not be doing anything. In fact, what she should have done the moment I notified her of the issue is to pull that worker immediately so that she could wash her hands and sanitize her entire workspace. She did not. She failed miserably. I asked her to provide me the number of the corporate office to file a complaint. Instead she gave me a number, for a Pedro Moraila. She claimed that this was her boss. She stated her name was Wendy. I decided not to call this number as she had already failed to gain my trust with that short interaction with her. Finally, I have gone to these lengths as this is the second time I've witnessed an issue at this location. The first I never reported, however it occurred several months ago when a child came out of the playground and ran directly to the chips and condiment bar. He grabbed several chips out of the bar barehanded and didn't use any tongs. I stopped him and asked him where his mom was and he said she was in the back working. In hindsight, I wish I had reported that incident at that time. However, again, it appears there is a deeper issue here that needs to be addressed immediately. In addition, I did file my report on the palenque email and reported the issue. They have never called, however, they did send an email claiming they've tried to reach me. I responded with a screenshot of all my phone calls and lo and behold no missed calls from anyone other than family. read more

Honestly, I've eaten here twice and the food was ok the first time, just a waxy tortilla and worse the second time, with a picadillo burrito that gave me the trots. The service is functional. I like that I can find Chicharon tacos here. Be warned they are pretty messy to eat but that is the case everywhere. I really like the flavor of the salsa they cook the chicharrones in. I went there today waited 20 minutes in line and they wanted to charge me $7 + change. No I finally got up to the window and showed them the receipt they said no way!
