This was a literal "first place you see" we stopped at. Just left son's dentist appointment and he was starving. I will get right into it. Let's start with the few positives. It was clean, and I liked the decor. First, and wow, they used the RIGHT cut of meat for the fajitas I ordered. Not only were they correct, they also were cooked beautifully. Tender and delicious. Clap for that. The midget had mini tacos, those were also pretty good! The charro beans we had were missing and zip or kick. Didn't see any type of traditional seasonings to it. They were passable. The salsas were both great. Let's see...the negatives. First, we saw other tables get chips and salsa, we were never brought nor offered any. We ordered queso flameado. If you look at the description of the plate, it states Monterey Jack cheese with Mexican sausage. Not what we were brought out. It was standard Mexican cheese with a dollop of chorizo. Also, it was brought out in a ceramic/ramekin type plate. Normally, at least in the great places we visit, they bring it to you on cast iron plate similar to fajitas. Why? Well because it keeps it warm longer and helps the cheese stay melted. It was ok for like the first minute, and bam it got cool. The tortillas that came with it were just as disappointing. We thought they were store bought, and not the good kind. We noticed a couple were oddly shaped. That means someone managed to make them the texture and taste of the run of the mill bagged flour tortillas...tisk tisk. So I decided to get corn tortillas since I was told they were freshly made in house. They were, but they had zero taste. No seasoning in masa, not even salt. They were overcooked to boot. Also, just out of curiosity..why leave the tail on the shrimp on in mixed dishes? You still have to pluck them out to remove the tail. So here is where I got a little upset. I get that every restaurant has different clientele and financial issues. But, to charge for to go plates, and then charge a service fee for paying with a card? Boo!!!! The rice also felt like it was left out for a while. This is a no for future visits.

Got food poisoning and felt sick within 30 minutes of eating here. I would stay away from this pace for your own safety.

    1 lb. Beef Fajita

I used to order here all the time and good god they are going downhill on portions. lately i dont know if they are under new management or what but they are stingy... payed 30 bucks for a half pound and they are putting 90% vegetables and 10 % beef fajita on their plate enouth for maybe 1 taco. It's weird because when ive gotten down to eat in the store their portions are super big. But when i order online they always forget something and don't serve you enough. This is the last time i'll order online i'd rather go to another chain. I put two stars because their catering is actually good only their drive thru is horrible.

What a nice little gem in San Antonio! We called to see if they could seat a party of 16. They said sure and were ready for us when we arrived. Our server, Juany, was pleasant and prompt with all of our orders. We made it during breakfast, so we were able to have the pancakes and some of their authentic dishes like chilaquiles, tacos, and queso. Everything was delicious and the only thing we could complain about was the steak was a little tough. Prices were extremely reasonable. Thanks for great service!

Food has been great! Would eat here again. Bit of an echo. My Carna Asada burritos were made to order and tasted great!

    Dry and tough Carne guisada

I decided to check this place out since I was craving some tacos and this place showed up on Yelp with 4 stars. I figured that it would be a solid choice. I ordered a Carne guisada with cheese and also a bean and cheese with bacon taco. The tacos were just okay at best. They left me feeling disappointed in the flavor department. The flour tortillas were alright but I got the sense that they weren't 100% homemade. They might have used one of those mixes where you just add water... I'm not sure what it was but they just didn't taste authentic. The beans in the bean and cheese taco didn't have much flavor and they were barely warm... definitely reheated. I was expecting an actual strip of bacon since I paid extra for the bacon. Instead, there were just a few tiny peices of bacon mixed in with a decent sized chunk hanging out of one end. At first glance, I thought that it was an actual strip but unfortunately that wasn't the case. I felt ripped off by the bacon bits since I paid for the bacon. The Carne guisada taco had good flavor but it wasn't exactly tender. The outer peices of the meat were perfect but as I bit down, I was met with dry and very bland meat. I've never had this happen before. The meat on the inside was tough and dry. I feel like I spent way too much money to feel this disappointment. Perhaps I just went on a bad day but I don't intend on coming back.

My daughter and I dined here today for lunch. The meals were reasonable and very tasty. Only thing, my daughter did not like the Carne Guisada. The puffy Tacos were very good and the home-made flour tortillas were superb. Our waitress was very gracious and she took very good care of us. The atmosphere was grand, everyone social distance and the restaurant was very clean. I would definitely return to this restaurant and highly recommend for a visit.

Ordered @ the place and my food was ready within 10 minutes. I even went outside to wait in the car bc there was a lot of people and the gentleman at the cashier station, brought me my order; I didn't Ask him to and honestly didn't expect it. So great customer service right there The bean & cheese was excellent, very tasteful and the bacon I put on it wasn't burnt for once The carne guisada taco w/ cheese was beyond my expectation. The meat was tender, the sauce wasn't messy and the perfect amount too. Side note: green salsa was tasty and had a nice kick to it Excellent breakfasts tacos in my book

    Chicken quesadilla plate

I love this place, always great customer service and food. Portions are generous and prices can't be beat! High quality ingredients too. I get the chicken quesadilla plate once or twice a week and it lasts me a few meals. I appreciate the heart that goes into it! Not to mention the lobby is always nice and clean when I pick up my order.

    Chilaquiles
    Tavo D.

I ordered chilaquiles and got this plate which is more like migas with pico. they were tasty and the tortillas were good. The chips and potatoes were awful. they tasted like fish, which isn't really what i like to taste when i eat eggs. the potatoes were very overpowering taste-wise. all you could taste was fish. Also, for my 3yo niece, we ordered a pancake and it is served with eggs and a strip of bacon. her pancake was undercooked. it was raw in the inside but cooked outside. we got it replaced but with one that wasn't as undercooked. our server was mostly on top of things and it was a larger party so she did great. I also asked for the yelp's check-in free app but it wasn't honored so that was also a let down.

The foods are decent and average price. The enchiladas was good but I had better enchilada. I still recommend this place for Mexican foods.

(It had Just Egg but I think other things added with it. It felt that it was softer and lighter than if it was only Just Egg) and pico de gallo on handmade flour tortilla. We were surprised by how much we enjoyed it. Their two self-serve complementary salsas were also fun and creamy. Concha- Delicious and we liked the top of it. Maybe one of our favorite conchas. Elote hot cake - Came out really hot and was delicious. These are only available on weekends. I was tempted to get more but we had lots more food targets on the schedule. Torta with Asada was pretty good too. But the other items excited me more I think. The person at the front also gave us some samples of other taco fillings to try: the fillings of the La Ranchera: Potatoes and pico de gallo in salsa ranchera and also grilled nopales. My husband who is usually not as crazy as me about nopales liked them here. They have mole on the weekends but it's not housemade from scratch. They use premade mole and add some more things to it so we skipped that one. My general rating system: 1 star: I would stay away 2 stars: Has some good things about it but I generally don't recommend. 3 stars: Pretty good. I wouldn't go out of my way to go back but a decent place 4 stars: Great place. I would go back. 5 stars: I highly recommend stopping whatever you are doing and making plans to try it out! I'm taken aback every time I walk into to this wonderfully positioned taqueria in downtown steps from the River Walk. The smells, the feels, the sounds- it'll set your senses on fire. It's ambience is nothing short of walking the streets of Mexico and stumbling across the best local food find there is- it's your lucky day. It doesn't end there, because I have yet to discuss the flavors that this place dishes out. If you can imagine that other taquerias in town as as good as mamma's cooking, Plantaqueria is grandma's cooking saying, " I taught them everything they know." The counter service, decor and neon lights transport you to a pueblo that you probably have no business being in but were fortunate enough to get lost in. I feel that the people working to advance this visionary concept are in love with what they do because you get that experience with every bite of fresh, homemade goodness, weather you dine in or take/order out. Dude, fresh corn and flour tortillas, C'mon, man!! And speaking of vision, the owner, Sofia, who looks like she would get IDd at a bar has created something truly unique and incredibly delicious. Plantaqueria has revolutionized modern, classical Mexican street cuisine. It's open 7am-7pm so you can literally have this all day and you might wish you did. Y'all need to get you some, and don't thank me, thank the purveyors of this Alamo City gem. P.s. I've brought my mom in to eat this stuff and she totally agrees!

The smell alone made me think we were in for something special. We grabbed a couple of cocktails and ordered tacos, which seemed like the obvious choice. The tacos were good, but that's about where I'd leave it. They weren't bad at all, but they also weren't particularly memorable. With the aroma coming from the grill and all the recommendations I'd heard, I was expecting a little more flavor and a bigger wow factor. The atmosphere was fun, the service was good, and the charcoal grill definitely adds to the experience. I just found the food itself to be more "solid" than "spectacular." I'd rate it about a 7 out of 10. Worth trying if you're already at El Camino, but not a place I'd go out of my way for.

The kind of place where your stress, your diet, even your cruda takes a backseat. Now the food. No overthinking needed here. Everything coming out of that truck is a straight up pow pow of flavor. The carne is cooked just right, juicy with that perfect char, and the corn tortillas are legit, soft but with enough structure to hold everything together. I ordered the Mamón and the Chingón, and honestly, both lived up to the names. No misses. And the agua fresca de fresa? That sealed it. My wife and I use to frequent this place YEARS ago, the service was good and the food was good,…read moreyears later we decided to go back & mannn the food quality & service has went down terribly! Pulled up on a Friday late night with my family ordered the standard 5 tacos. They are a bit pricey as well. I ordered the carne Asada and my mother in law ordered the chicken. While it did seem like it tasted good it was super greasy. (TMI coming up) When I woke up the next morning my I noticed my bowels were literally moving the next day, (I counted about 9 times). I felt bloated and everything. My wife even told me that as we were pulling off she witnessed the cook I believe his name is Julio eating some of the product while he was preparing peoples food (the side door of the food truck was open so you could see right in). Funny enough we decided to go back Saturday evening to give them another try, thinking it would be better, BOY was we wrong. I ordered the same order plus charro Beans, elote (corn in a cup) and 3 cans of sprite. This time we took literally one bite and the meat was DRYER than the Saharan desert both the carne asada and the chicken. (Tasted like some reheated old meat or meat that had been made days prior). We were already at the hotel at this point and was infuriated!!! We ended up calling and I believe I spoke to Julio (or whoever the cook is) over the phone. After lying saying that he cooked the meat fresh that day he stuttered I told him aint no way the meat was fresh. He then said and I quote " I cooked the meat "a couple days ago" then said "sorry I burnt it or overcooked it". (Knowing that why would you serve that to me?) I then stated "yes it tasted old period". I requested a refund in which he agreed to. Driving all the way back I brought the food back as well. Julio (or whoever the cooks name is) tried to plead his case to me saying that the meat is fresh and took a fork and tasted the food himself and then tried to offer me the food. I told him "no I don't want to taste it, just refund me please" in which he did. Dishonesty, Not handling food with care, lying. Is something that crosses the line and I won't be back. *Also if the owner is reading this I have the phone conversation recorded and the video evidence to show proof this whole interaction, so do not just glaze over this review* I don't like writing bad reviews, but this one is for sure warranted. Seems like they will dress up the taco and selling you some "old meat" people just be careful and mindful when coming to this taco truck. "The Earths Best Taco" they say... that's a stretch!
