The most underrated Mexican food in bend. I'm from Los Angeles and moved here a year ago. After going to a couple highly rated/recommended placed like spork and Parilla I was dissapointed. Then, on a hungry whim, I wemt to taco salsa. Probably the most traditional hole in the wall Mexican food that matched what I was craving for. The atmosphere isn't great. The service isn't overly friendly or spunky. The guacamole isn't very good. But this place is also the only place I've found some decent Adobada. If you like organic whole bland food then you probably won't like this place. But if you like some down and dirty Mexican food that's the most similar to a Southern California hole in the wall. Phoned in order at 10:10 am . Said I'd be there in 10 minutes. Got there at 1045. No one at drive up window. Had to go inside and yell hello 5 times. Girl wondered what I needed. Told her my order. They just then started to make it. No apology- nothing. I had 10 minutes for lunch. Cook glared - like SCARY glared- at me the whole time. What did I do wrong? Ordered food to pay their salary? We were excited to try this taco place on our trip in bend. However, we were very disappointed with our order. We had 2 chicken tacos, 2 carne asada tacos, and 2 bean and cheese burritos and 1 soda. We paid $27 and couldn't get passed a few bites of each. The tacos were cold, tortillas tasted very old, and the bean and cheese burritos were basically all tortilla and cheese. Customer service is awful! The lady couldn't or wouldn't answer any questions I had. Seemed annoyed that I didn't know what I wanted. When I paid for it she disappeared for 5 minutes while I waited for her to give me a receipt and my card back. The burrito was the most expensive burrito in town. The ice machine was empty. When I asked about it she said yea with no offer to get me some ice. I asked again and she said she was getting to it. Waited for a few minutes and left. To top it off the burrito isn't even good. We were very impressed with Taco Salsa! It's probably the most AUTHENTIC Mexican taco spot in this town, which we were desperately seeking to find among the sea of cliche, pseudo taco restaurants here. Coming from Florida, we were missing the taste of warm, soft corn tortillas, well-seasoned meat and simple, refreshing toppings. This place was a great reminder of what a taco SHOULD be! There's no need for the fancy, fusion-style recipes - this is the real deal. I went here for a breakfast burrito. It was fine - not terrifc but a solid meal. I do think it was a bit on the bland side for my personal tastes. As a suggestion, I would suggest they provide more variety of salsa - they had a few salsas but they varied mainly in spiciness rather than taste. For example, providing Salsa de Pepita de Calabaza and a nice Creamy Chipotle Salsa would add some diversity to the flavors. The portion was large and the value was good. I used to like this place for cheap mexican food. It was nothing special but the salsas were always a great bonus. That being said I decided that I will no longer be returning. When I recieved my burrito it was a 3rd of the size with very little filling. I was disappointed but didn't want to complain. After hearing loud laughing from the kitchen I noticed all the cooks slapping each other on the butt and eating pizza while trying to cook. Taco Salsa isn't a restaurant, it's an experience. Definitely the best shitty Mexican food you can grab at 2 am for under $10. All the employees look dead behind the eyes. All the customers are quite drunk, too drunk to be operating the vehicle they came in. The food is quantity, not quality. The Decor is tacky but in a good way. While I was eating my two beef burritos for the amazing price of 9.50 I was rushed by a kid who promptly let me know that his name was "Bogie" and that he was "fucked up". He then ran to the other side of the restaurant and let another group of kids know his name and the amount of alcohol he had consumed that evening before he hopped on the table. 5/5 would go again read more

Being from California we've been disappointed time and again with Mexican food in Central Oregon. But today we found a place that we would probably return to. I had a simple vegetarian burrito, beans and rice had really good flavor. Got lots of cilantro and chopped onions as per my request. I have bee a fan of this place for years. The seating and decor is alright, not its strong suite but comfortable. The real draw is the food. I wouldn't know from experience but from what I am told it's pretty authentic. The topping bar they have is awesome, they always have caramelized onions in a dish, with a variety of hot sauces and pickled veggies to top off your plate. I have had several of their burritos, shrimp, beef, and California and all of them were in decent portion size and very flavorful. They sodas that they have are also unique and very delightful to go with any of their meals. I love this places hours as well as you can typically count on them for a late night meal. I went here for tacos. I ordered a carnitas taco and a legua taco no guac. I got a steak taco instead of the carnitas. Steak was yummy and flavorful but the lengua tasted overcooked. I asked the girl working if they made the horchata in house but she didn't know so I ordered one anyway. It tasked of artificial sugar and lots of vanilla. Definitely not made from scratch if it even is made in house. Overall I will go back because of how close they are and I enjoyed their salsas and that one of the employees spoke Spanish. read more

Huge rip off and unwanted lip service from the window gal. She wanted to argue with me over why my plain rice bean and ground beef burrito cost more than any other burrito on their menu. Felt unfair and when i asked about it she gave me attitude and said " its my fault for wanting beans". I guess beans are a priceless commodity now. Never going back! Shitty service. The sausage cost more than the steak which is odd. Food was bland; have to use sauce. No egg in my breakfast burrito;just a bunch of sausage. Just your average small "hole in the wall" mexican restaurant. Nothing special.Once a Dairy queen, now a taco place. though they offer other things like burritos and enchiladas. Plus a salsa bar.This place is closer to taco Del mar then an actual mexican restaurant. I liked them but they wernt anything special. The coke machine was out of ice and they had to give me ice from the drive though. Also the cashier, whom looked to be the mananger wasn't too happy to give my order but was real happy when a hispanic lady came in after me. Go figure. 5 star dining with the service to match. The cuisine was presented in what might quite plausibly be the most aesthetically pleasing in the northwest. I ordered the carne asada fries and yumm! The beef was cooked to an excellent texture and the fries were warm, golden, and crispy! it was $8.00 I do believe which was an absolute steal. My friend got the rolled tacos which were only 5 dollars and they were also exceptionally delicious. To match the food, the ambiance was very romantic-there was perfect lighting and comfortable seats. While I was eating, I believe the lady at the front counter was giving me the love-eyes. I was flattered. All in all, I give taco salsa a 10/10 and I will most certainly be returning on a regular basis. Maybe I'll get that front counter ladies number ;) read more

First of all I hate to leave 4 star reviews but for this one I have to. The food is very authentic but can however be bland. It just depends on who cooks it. Very good salsas and do not be afraid to go spicy! The reason I give four stars is because of the staff. They are not very friendly and hospitality is a huge part of operating a restaurant. However, I was very disappointed in the service. The girl at the counter looked distracted (there were only two customers in the store), didn't give back my change (20¢ but still) even though I counted out what I gave her and I was not offered a receipt. This is the place to go to get fantastic Mexican food! It is inexpensive, and delicious. If you are looking for a fine, sit-down place with a waiter, go somewhere else. If you want great food, inexpensively Taco Salsa is your place. They do have tables and booths for eating in but you will have to pick up your food once it is ready and get your own condiments from the fresh salsa bar. This place is great for quick and relatively good Mexican taqueria style food. There is a drive through that is open almost 24 hours a day. The burritos are a good size and I love the salsas. Just be careful with complex orders because it can be a crapshoot as to whether or not they will get your order exactly right if it is complex. Ultimately I am stoked to have Taco Salsa as a quick and easy option for burritos and occasionally other items like chile rellenos. read more

This is one of my favorite places to eat when I'm craving something Mexican. My favorite is the Carne Asada burrito... something about the flavor of that steak. I would have given five stars, but out of the last (roughly) 10-15 times I've been there, 2 of those times, the Carne Asada didn't have the same flavoring. The lack of consistency is a little bit of a turnoff. So, now fear of showing up on an "off" day might be enough to change my mind about going. read more

Just moved here and tried out Taco Salsa YUMMY. Really good food. Bean and cheese burrito HUGE and delicious. It isn't a restaurant but good food. Taste authentic. Building is a little to be desired but it was clean inside and good food. Been there 4 times in the last month service has been good for me each time. Can't wait to go back. I like it much better than Rigabertos. You should try it yourself and see what you think. It isn't five star restaurant but great for fast food the best in Bend. Authentic Mexican food. The most authentic and best Mexican food in Bend. Far more authentic and tasty than other faux Mexican places like Taco Del Mar and Longboard Louie's. I have had most of their tacos, burritos and tortas and all have been very good. I am particularly fond of their carnitas. Service is always fast and friendly.
