i have been more inclined to try food carts as a bunch have been recommended by friends especially in the queens area and today its taco veloz in elmhurst and it was worth it for tasty tacos , burritos, tostados. etc. this visit it was a triple taco treat and the choices are many from pork , chicken, goat , cheese , beef and a few more that i am not brave enough to try .2 chicken, i beef , with the works minus the sauce please .for less then 15 bucks including soda my belly was full and happy. food is very good and most important its fresh . to be fair its not really a stand but a store front where you order at the outdoor counter space and hit the road . we were lucky as we were the 5th on line and ordering and pickup is less then 10 minutes as the workers are moving around fast .must give 4 stars overall and you dont have to go to a sit down restaurant to get good mexican food at cheap prices . read more

Kay, for starters this place isn't awful. Yes - I'm aware that that's not the best way to begin a review, but as much as there is something about there food that rubs me the wrong way, I can't deny that they are indeed cheap, tasty, filling and open late - which is really what took my rating of Taco Veloz from 3 stars to 4. My all time favorite Mexican Food/Taco spot in this hood is "Guadalajara de Noche" (go see my super detailed review: http://www.yelp.com/biz/guadalajara-de-noche-jackson-heights#hrid:jn-j3rvCrNTsZJhIo6Iddg) and at Taco Veloz I've had their chicken burrito and their steak, chorizo, al pastor and chicken tacos. I've had all these items (and more) at 'Guadalajara de Noche' and they've always been significantly better in terms of meat quality, cilantro freshness, not stingy with the cheese or limes and just tastier. Guadalajara's (HUGE) downfall and the real reason that I've had to sacrifice quality, flavor, comfort of seating and price (usually a .50 - $1 different at most for the particular food items mentioned above) is because after like 10pm or so Guadalajara becomes a bit clubby and seedy male and (scantily clad) female seedy characters arrive and ruin my taco joint... At times I've braced it, held my head up high and gone in if I'm super hungry and don't care - but it's really at night time that Taco Veloz gets my business...although I don't know what's going to happen when it gets super cold out. Anywhoo, I know this isn't the sweetest review ever, but this place isn't really that bad. I feel as if I would like it so much more if I didn't KNOW that tastier food existed literally RIGHT ACROSS THE STREET. If you're alone and want a quick bite, definitely give these guys a shot. I'm pretty sure they're family owned and I like that, I'm all for thriving small businesses and inexpensive noms. Food had: carne asada tacos and carne asada nachos. They serve some of the best carne asada tacos I've had in NYC and probably the most comparable to L.A. tacos. Really good tacos! A long counter facing the street, kept pretty clean. No seats avail, but doesn't really matter since it only takes 5 whole seconds to eat one of their tasty tacos. The beef & pork was moist and flavorful so much better than some of the trucks on Roosevelt. This is now one of of my to go places when I crave tacos. The only thing with this place is the waitress/cashier did not speak any english so I couldn't find out what time they close. Went to this place today with my parents ordered some food the beans that comes with the tostadas were cold not even warm , lady taking the order was Extremely rude we told her no cream to the quesadilla and they ended up adding cream we told the lady we wont eat it due to the cream which I'm extremely allergic to ..... I accidentally missed my stop and ended up in Jackson Heights, so I spontaneously decided to get off for a quick snack. The highest rated spots in the area were taco joints, so I decided to check out Tacos Al Suadero; however, the menu lacked vegetarian options. I came here instead. I asked about a vegetarian taco option (It wasn't on the menu) and she said there is one. The taco was loaded with ingredients (for only $2.50). Highlights include fresh oaxaca cheese and whole slices of avocado (as opposed to mashed/guacamole). Although it does also come with a small container of guacamole, which was great. The taco was a little cold though. While on line, an elderly woman demanded donations from me. I had seen her do the same to the patrons on line before me as well as the customers after me. Then, I overheard the latter say that the woman had been doing this for years. It's also a HUGE pet peeve of mine when restaurants give you a range of dollar coins/coin denominations as your change (i.e. 5 dimes instead of 2 quarters). Sorry if I seem petty. I came here after my go-to, love-of-my-life taco truck was closed, but after reading the previous reviews, I should have gotten tacos. Instead we ordered a chorizo torta, and three tostadas: cecina, al pastor, and carnitas. My boyfriend gave the torta a thumbs up, but even though I told them no avocados...they put avocados in it. The tostadas were just ok--the meat was fantastic, perfectly seasoned and juicy, but the toppings were all lackluster, tasted like storebought ingredients. It took away from the overall flavor and lacked simple things like salsa/tomatoes. I will say their green hot sauce is VERY good, it tastes homemade. read more

Recently visited Taco Veloz to try their chicken tacos and quesadillas. I was served promptly and the staff was friendly. The quesadilla was tasty, fresh vegetables, and soft tortilla. This place will get 4 stars because the chicken had small bits of cartilage and chicken skin which is fat. I would encourage management to use skinless chicken. So I've gone to Mexico and even in Mexico the tacos aren't as great as taco veloz. The meat is juicy tender and cooked to perfection. It's a very simple taco but its extremely satiating. I was in the area coming back from work and i was hungry. I remember this place is open 24/7. Why not try some tacos. I ordered 1 al pastor, 1 lengua taco and 1 polllo. I took my food to go, as i thoight i would best enjoy it home, NOT the food never made it home. So i had the al pastor, i can taste the pork and the seasonings but it was not amazing as i thouhht it would be. I had the lengua taco, this one did not even tickled my palate. The lengua was chewy hardly any flavor, although i did managed to drench my tacos all 3 of them with a runny avocado like green sauce the entire experience was just ok...now for me it was a disapointing experience. Perhaps next time i will try a torta? I think i want to give them a second chance. If your craving some quick burritos for a good price this is the place to go. In California, i'm used to getting the burritos from the taco trucks. This place "will do" if your on a budget. A burrito and rice is $5. There are no chairs or table. This is a stand up place where you can eat there or take it to go. I recommend the Lengua Burrito. It's really tasty. My family and I were looking for a Mexican restaurant to eat after a family day out. We walked into Taco Veloz hoping to get good tacos and cemitas. From my experience the Cemita which is sesame seed bread, chicken cutlet, queso Oaxaca, avocado, mayo and papalos was good. I've had better but for the price of $7 it was decent. The place itself felt a bit uncomfortable dude to the lack of space and it was very dim. Overall we enjoyed our food and look forward to taste the tacos next time, since I've read good review of their tacos! read more
