Over all I do enjoy Tacodeli tacos, they're an awesome quick grab from my favorite coffee shop and shopping center I shop at. However, there are two things that I would LOVE if they improved on. One is the size and amount of raw onions in their tacos. I'm a chef, so I'm over all a food lover, not very finicky, however, it's just too much! They're very large and just so raw, it really takes over the taco, specifically the breakfast tacos. The other thing that I often come by and is disappointing is the undercooked/heated corn tortillas and veggies. I've gotten multiple tacos where the tortillas and veggies, such as sweet potato, are hard still and cold. The tacos are on the small side, and the quantity of ingredients can be lacking at times. The sauces, mainly the habanero one.. sure does have some kick to it. Set-up inside is a little crowded if you are trying to order and then turn a few inches sideways and pour yourself a cup of coffee. Can't believe I haven't reviewed this place yet. Top 2 breakfast tacos in Austin hands down. By far the best chain bfast tacos. So good they're offered in every market in town. Of course you have to get them fresh for it to truly shine. The build your own is the best option here, it's bountiful, cheap, fresh, and truthfully delicious. Queso is the only thing that leaves a little to be desired. Go on saturdays, one of the only times you can get bfast and lunch tacos at the same time. For those that like spicy, get the Torreados. It'll blow your mind, and probably blow a few other things a few hours later. Their salsas are an Austin staple. It's truly changed the Austin taco landscape. My favorite combo: chorizo, Rajas, mashed potatoes, egg. You'll never need another taco. Do yourself a favor and get here early before the line is out of the door, better yet, order ahead. Puerco Verde We also got the puerco verde and I think this one was better than the mojo fish. They definitely had a lot of flavor but also a lot of sodium.... Breakfast Taco Don't remember which one it was but it was the one with eggs and bacon. This one wasn't too salty because the egg balanced out the strong meat and sauce flavors well. Pretty good! I always get the el pollosito, but this time I also got the carne asada. Both were really good, but the el pollosito will always be my favorite. I am also a big fan of their dona sauce!! This sauce is a must if you like spicy things! Back when we were in the office, we would order Tacodeli all the time for meetings. Breakfast tacos were always easy to get if it was a morning meeting and then chips and queso were a must for afternoon meetings! They have made online ordering and contactless pick up extremely easy during covid. Every time I have ordered online, it's ready within 10 minutes max, which gives me just enough time to order and then walk over to go pick it up immediately. Conveniently located near an entry point to the greenbelt, this location gets bonus points for being nearby a walking attraction, but a ding for limited parking as a result. Very few designated parking lot spots and many cars on the street normally. The offerings are a wide variety but not overly remarkable on their own. The best bit is the doña salsa, which you can now buy at select grocery stores. This is one of several TacoDeli locations that offer two different dinner plate options after 4 PM. We tried both and would not have them again. The mole sauce was overly spiced and bitter. The rice was also a miss. The plate would be better served with the potato side they offer throughout the rest of the day. I do not know why this place has such good reviews. I mean given, the actual tacos are pretty good, but the breakfast tacos are definitely not. This unassuming store front may have limited space, but the tacos they serve up knock it out of the park! Among my favs tacos are The Heather, Freakin' Vegan, Happy Taco (back when I was a meat eater), Jess Special, The Vaquero, and then pretty much any breakfast taco with their mashed potatoes. During my visit to Austin, my friend kept on raving about Tacodeli. After my first visit, I could see why people are a fan. I ended up visiting during lunchtime, and the length of the line made me think that this place is quite the popular spot. The line ended up moving rather quickly, and I ordered three tacos: the Pollo Fantastico, the Tikin Xic, and the Puerco Verde. I wanted to try a variety of their offerings, so getting one each of their salmon, pork, and chicken tacos seemed like it would provide a good sampling of their menu. I'd never have a salmon taco before, but I was impressed with the Tikin Xic. It was a bit on the salty side, but the achiote-marinated grilled salmon was quite flavorful. The Puerco Verde paired tender pork shoulder with a tasty salsa verde, and the Pollo Fantastico delightfully blended shredded chicken with a green chile sauce and crema Mexicana. I had the migas plate. It's a stretch to call them migas. The eggs were either powder or liquid, most definitely not fresh. I could be wrong but the texture was nothing I've had from fresh eggs. No tortilla strips in them either. To their defense they offered to replace them because the "mix" wasn't up to par as breakfast was near end. I declined because the addition of strips wouldn't have helped them anyways. Friendly staff that did their best to make it right, but line staff can only do so much to correct a decision made above them in the chain of command. Over one year of interning close to their Barton Skyway location, I'd gone through their entire menu (minus the vegetarian ones). But that was 5+ years back. Sol it was wonderful to go back after all this time, order the al pastor and then find that nothing has changed. I decided upon 3 tacos: -The Otto on corn -El Popeye on wheat -Classic Migas on flour Nothing was special about the ingredients nor combinations so I was pretty underwhelmed. We did also order a small side of queso and guacamole, but there was some miscommunication in the order I guess and they were forgotten as well as the second one of my friend's tacos. Fortunately, because it wasn't that busy we were able to reconcile it fairly speedily. The queso was probably the best part and was way better than the guacamole which was too acidic for our liking.
