If you've ever lived in Austin (shoutout to my fellow Longhorns!) then you're familiar with Tacodeli. Their homemade tortillas are delightfully fluffy, their menu selection is diverse, and the sauces are like the icing on the cake. I stopped by Tacodeli the first time around noon, and realized I'd made a mistake because the place was packed. This could be due, in part, to them having just opened. However, I think Tacodeli will have a big crowd going for a while so be prepared to wait. The line was wrapped around the entire restaurant! The second time I went I called ahead to pick up my tacos to-go and it was packed, once again. They do a pretty efficient job at getting people their food though, and I thought the experience was better. Can't wait to make this a regular taco spot now! read more

I love the variety and bold flavor of Tacodeli's tacos- as someone who almost exclusively eats chicken, there are a ton of options. There are also a ton of vegetarian options, which is nice. I also love that they have queso, which was solid but not amazing. I really wanted to love this place. My boyfriend always raved about the Austin location. We went for the first time at the end of April to check out the Houston location. I ordered a sirloin, egg, and cheese taco and was sadly surprised when there were only 3 tiny pieces of steak. I figured it was a fluke and decided to go back this morning and re-ordered the sirloin taco. To my complete shock, there was barely any meat!! What a ripoff. Great tacos in one of my favorite Houston neighborhoods. I highly recommend if you're ever in the area! the creativity is not as high as Torchy's, BUTTT I like this place a lot because they do justice to each ingredient. My friend and I went on a Saturday afternoon, so there was a bit of a wait to get into line, but the turnover rate seems relatively fast. There is an abundance of parking in their private lot, so none of the crazy Montrose parking on the streets shenanigans. The two tacos I got were The Otto and the Puerco Verde taco. Two solid choices. I'm so glad that they have breakfast tacos available on weekends, but I'm a definite fan of breakfast tacos. The creamy refried beans in The Otto with the crispy bacon -- textural yumm. The puerco verde taco did not disappoint either with its richness and spiciness. They have a solid vegetarian menu, so if you have friends who don't eat meat, this is a great place to take them. What Tacodeli does best is keep things simple and delicious. They don't overdo it on their tacos, and they make each bite excellent. Holy grail of tacos. Vegan? You're good. Gluten free? No worries. Straight up carnivore? They've got you covered, too. I've been to tacodeli in Austin multiple times, and it's never disappointed. Houston clearly doesn't disappoint either...I can still say I've never had anything bad here. I got the papadulce and the Tikin Xic, but I've had the Jess Special, Freakin Vegan, Otto and Migas as well. And they've all knocked it out of the park. Coming here today was great vibe a place to hang here with friends and drink margaritas and beer. I was exited to taste the food I thought they would be great because they where 4.25 for taco usually tacos are 1 or 2 dollar. But when I saw them they where small and after I tasted they where salty meat. The only good taste where their salsa. Please excuse me while I jump on the Breakfast Taco Bandwagon... I started coming here the week it opened thanks to Yelp's Hot New Businesses email. The food has stayed consistently good and the service has gotten exponentially better. Our first visit was a takeout order that I'd placed about 20 minutes before we arrived. I walked in and the other in my party of 2 stayed in the car, since we both assumed it would be a quick trip. It wasn't. The place was PACKED, both with dine-in and take-out orders, and everyone behind the counter was working feverishly to keep up with the understandable demand. About 15 minutes after checking in with the takeout cashier, the manager approached me, apologized for my wait and handed me a couple coupons for some free tacos. Win. Eventually I walked out with my sack-o-breakfast-tacos and we both enjoyed them on our way to the Houston Zoo (which is another awesome story entirely). The sauces they offer are a great compliment to the already perfect tacos. I'd recommend adding queso to any of them because queso makes everything better. Subsequent visits have included tacos other than the breakfast variety, and they're all on par with some of the best taco places I've had in Houston (which of course is saying a lot since there are a TON of great little taco stands in Houston). The to-go situation is still a little slower than I'd like, but not unreasonably so. Also, for some reason I keep missing the sauce display when I order carryout so I feel like I'm on the spot when the takeout cashier asks me if I want any sauces. It usually goes like this: Cashier: "Do you want any sauces to go?" Me: "Yes." Cashier: ... Cashier: "Great! Which kinds?" Me: ... Me: "What do you have?" Cashier: *points to gigantic sauce spread* This likely has to do with its placement at the end of the dine-in line and the takeout's position in relation to all of that. You'll just walk right past it if you're on a mission (and I'm always on a mission when tacos are involved). Not a complaint, just a heads-up if you want to avoid looking as silly as I do. The dining room is pretty small, but there is some patio seating that seems less cramped. The location itself is right on Washington (and I do mean RIGHT ON Washington), so you get the lovely urban ambiance that comes along with that if you choose to eat outside. read more

Went there for the very first time today. Got 2 El Shrimposito tacos. Insanely delicious. Shrimp was fresh and grilled to perfection. Avocado was the perfect ripeness. Heavenly seasoning. Super fresh ingredients. The service was great. Everybody was really friendly and "weird". Great Austin-like vibe. I gave it 4 stars, because I didn't do a restroom inspection. This is by far my favorite taco place. When I heard they were opening up a spot in Houston, I made sure to show up for their grand opening! All of the tacos are simple but delicious. There is no need for crazy combinations or sauces, just simple tacos with great flavor. The delibelly daily special on Wednesdays and Saturdays is probably my favorite taco anywhere, but I also enjoy the mojo fish and akaushi picadillo! They all pair well with the salsa dona, which has a very nice heat without any overpowering taste. I would recommend this place to anyone who likes tacos. To be fair, my two biggest gripes are that the chips and queso are not very good (compared to other popular taco chains), and the hours aren't great. I had never heard of Tacodeli until they moved in off Washington Avenue. Boy was I in for a treat. The breakfast here is phenomenal and the specialty tacos are very original with their ingredients. Don't like any of them? That's fine! They let you build your own too. The tacos themselves are four stars but what sets it all apart is the sauces they offer. You can go to torchys or velvet or any other taco stand but ill go to taco deli. I cant say it enough, this place cranks out some seriously well seasoned tacos. They have a great variety from the shrimp, fish, pork, or steak tacos you can find something you'll love. The queso and guac here were also pretty great, but i prefer the guac. Of course the dona sauce is something special, super spicy and creamy which pair so well with all of their taco offerings. This is the perfect location as well, its a great part of town with a lot of bars and activities. The only downside to this place is that it closes at 3. If they were to somehow become a late night eat to accommodate the night life on Washington, this place would solidify itself among taco lore. I had Tacodeli for the first time in Austin a couple weeks ago and I absolutely loved it! When I heard they were opening one in Houston, of course I had to go! My friend and I both got the Shrimposito and the El Conquistador. The El conquistador has shredded pork, onions, and avocado in it. It was good but a little dry. The shrimposito however was delicious! I highly recommend it. The location is a little small, but the staff is super nice! Will definitely return to try everything else on the menu! read more

Very surprised by the number of choices for each meat. The ones I went with were all excellent and had flavors that matched the menu descriptions. Unlike Torchys that throws any and everything on a tortilla and comes up with a "trash" name these seemed well thought out. The meats were tender and you could taste them all even through the other ingredients. The counter guys were friendly and chatty which I like. Plenty of parking and the sauces are pretty good too. Not many places get 4 stars so I think this is a place I will recommend and head back to many times. read more

So, this place seemed to be pretty basic. Which I was really disappointed in. The staff was excellent, the inside was really nice. I ordered the cowboy, and chipotle shrimp taco. Both of my tacos came out with the meat in both of them rather cold. Because of that, they didn't taste very good. The queso was awesome, but then again melted cheesy goodness always is! Salsa bar was also awesome, with some salsas that are actually spicy! Also, about $12.00 for 2 small tacos rice and beans seemed to be kind of pricier for some sub par tacos. We dropped by today early in the morning on our way to my daughters school . For past 1 week was intrigued by the name and seemed like a fun place. My only complaint is that they close at 3 PM because I find myself constantly craving TacoDeli at all hours of the day. TacoDeli is my favorite taco place in Houston (or Austin, or anywhere for that matter...). Their ingredients are very fresh and the tacos are always delicious! I recommend the Sirloin Frontera Fundido, Jess Special, & Popeye- they are all excellent choices if you don't know what to order. The Roberto's Brazo Fuerte Queso is TO DIE FOR. It's my favorite queso out of any of the many, many Tex Mex joints I've been to in my lifetime. Sadly, I have to watch my figure and only order it on special occasion. But you should get it at least once. Some other reviewers are raving about Torchy's. I'm not a fan. I don't like super spicy things and much of their salsas are too spicy for me. TacoDeil's Roja Salsa is perfect for me! We even bought it at Whole Foods a couple times to make our own tacos with. read more

I've quickly become a huge fan of Tacodeli. I had been meaning to try them for a while, and now that I have I'm kicking myself for not coming here sooner. I enjoy the variety of tacos on their menu, and the service is exceptional. I enjoy eating out on their patio as well. So about those tacos. They've got local seafood, of which I enjoy the Shrimp Taco and Shrimposito. They've got chicken tacos, of which I enjoy the Pollo Adobado and Mexico City Chicken. They've got more beef than Nicki Minaj and Remy Ma. Look out for their daily specials as well. Last, but not least, I really dig the customizable breakfast tacos. Oh, and I love their horchata. My only knock on Tacodeli is their hours. Closing at 3PM on the busy Washington Corridor? Not a good look. Those tasty breakfast tacos somewhat make up for it, but not nearly enough. It's unfortunate that I can't have Tacodeli for dinner or late night, but at least there are plenty of other taco places in H-Town for that. read more

Tried this new taco spot out with my wife. We had two drinks, three tacos and a pozole for almost $30. I had an cold brew coffee which was 2 stars, I drank it but it did have a slightly unpleasant "green" taste to it. Shrimp taco 3/5 stars. The delibelly taco was the highlight of the trip - tasty! The pozole was generous with poor but skimpy on cabbage and radish ... Usually it's the other way around. The space was really hot for a late May morning - can't imagine how hot it will be in August! This is a counter service taco place and they bring your plate to you. They have daily specials and the special of the moment in addition to a full breakfast and lunch/dinner menu. I ordered a small chips and queso, the conquistador and a small 50/50 of red rice and whole pinto beans. The queso tasted great but was super runny (thin). The conquistador was a little salty and very dry. Not sure if the cut of meat I got was just dry or if that is purposeful. The small 50/50 was a joke. It comes in a 2 or 4 ounce to-go ramekin. HEB gives bigger samples than the small side I paid more than $1.50 for that was the equivalent of 3 bites. Overall, i give it a 3. I would go back with friends but I would not make this my regular go to taco house. read more

The chicken, pork, rice, beans, eggs, and corn tortillas are organic as well as most of the produce. The hanger steak and ground beef are 100% grass fed, and the drum fish is wild caught. We ordered 4 different tacos all on corn tortillas: Pollo En Mole, El Conquistador, Al Pastor, and Freakin Vegan. My fave was the El Conquistador, the pork was a bit crunchy which meshed perfectly with the large cuts of avocado, so good. My assistant's favorite taco was the Al Pastor. The pork flavor was delish and the red chile adobo sauce had the perfect amount of spice; not overpowering. The corn tortillas were outstanding! read more

Orale! So good. I'm usually in the area on Saturday mornings, so I decided stop in here and get some breakfast. I'm so glad I did. The place was crowded, but the line moved quickly, and there was plenty of room for everyone to sit. The staff was friendly and welcoming. Their menu is quite extensive, but my cashier was helpful (as I had never been here before.) I chose a sirloin, egg and cheese taco, a house-made sausage, egg and cheese taco (WOW!) and a bean and cheese taco. The steak, and the sausage tacos were out of this world. This is what I would expect from Abuelita's kitchen. The sausage was the best I've ever had. The eggs were cooked to perfection, and the flour tortillas were amaazing. I don't like to give a place five stars on the first visit, I but I did this time because Tacodeli is what Torchy's and Freebirds aspire to be. I was so happy when I heard that Tacodeli was coming to Houston, and it has not disappointed. I absolutely love their tacos, if only because they have so many vegetarian friendly options (that aren't just fried cheese or tofu). But I think they also do a great job of just making tasty and flavorful tacos in general. My favorites are the Jess Special, Papadulce, and Space Cowboy. You can also pick between corn, flour, and wheat tortillas, which is a nice option. Their chips and salsa/guac also serve as a great side (although beware because their salsas and guac can get pretty spicy), especially if you're in a group. They also have daily specials; my mom is a big fan of their Thursday scallop special. When you go, get two tacos, which is a good portion for lunch - although I'll admit that I am often tempted to get three when I'm hungry. You can easily spend under $10, which isn't always easy to do when you're eating out. If there's a line, never fear, because it moves pretty quickly. They also have a huge parking lot, which, again, isn't always an easy feat when eating out. My only complaint is that they aren't open for dinner, but this is probably for the best, because otherwise I might come here for every meal... If you go as often as I do, grab one of their VIP Gold Cards, which keeps track of your points (1 point for every $1) and after 75 points, you get $5 credit. If you're going to get tacos anyway, you might as well be working towards a free taco too, right? read more
