I was a HUGE Tacodeli fan as a student at UT and even worked there one summer. I was thrilled to find out they were coming to Houston, but concerned there may be a lack in quality because it's a new location working out the kinks. Well, I should have known better. This location is top notch. I know first hand how they source and prepare their food, and it truly shines through in their flavors and quality. I turned my whole office onto their tacos and Dona salsa. We've eaten there twice in the last week. Soooo... their tacos are solid, but not my favorite. And I hate that they close at 3pm. The homemade tortillas are definitely a bonus, and these tacos aren't greasy at all--yay! They are simple without much creativity like you get from Torchy's or Velvet. Some people prefer that, others don't. I've had several for both breakfast and lunch--my favorites being the Otto and Shrimposito. On one occasion I couldn't finish any of the tacos because they seemed salty AF. Not sure if it was the tacos or their salsas... but their Doña sauce is legit! However, it's just a good knock off of the green avocado sauce you can get at your favorite taqueria. Not that there's anything wrong with that... especially since you can get as much as you want! The agua frescas are tasty--watermelon is my personal favorite and super refreshing! All the staff is friendly, parking is plentiful, and service is quick (especially if you order online or by phone for pick-up). However, I can't help but know I can get similar style tacos on the east side of town for way cheaper, but this place was meant for a gringa like me, lol. read more

Was in the area and started to look for a place for a quick breakfast...omg, I was not disappointed at all with my choice! I had the black bean taco with bacon and avocado...those were some of the best refried black beans I've had in a long time! So tasty and perfectly seasoned! I can't express how happy I am that tacodeli finally opened a location in Houston! My main source of excitement stemmed from the fact they have a VEGAN taco option on the menu (thank you baby Jesus!). Although they don't have a whole section of the menu dedicated to "vegan" they do have a vegetarian section with several options- the staff has been very helpful in offering up suggestions on what items can be veganized by removing cheese- two ladies that helped me were also knowledgeable enough on what vegans can and can't eat that they warned me that one or the tacos had a honey sauce. It makes a vegan feel very comfortable with a restaurant when the staff is knowledgeable on this kind of stuff- many other restaurants in the area, which I won't name, have employees working for them that still think vegans can eat dairy. I tend to steer clear of those places. So far I have tried the "Freakin Vegan", Pappadulce, and the "space cowboy" (minus the cheese)...all or those tacos were amazing and they have a wheat tortilla option which I love. The guacamole is hands down the best guacamole I have ever had (my boyfriend said this as well and he is picky!). My only complaint about this restaurant is the fact that it closes at 3pm....what the Hecht am I supposed to eat for dinner? Ha Definitely give this place a try! You won't be upset! read more

TACO TUESDAY! So I came to this place on the opening day for some breakfast tacos. Ended up with The sirloin egg and cheese and got it on corn tortillas. Customer service was good, being that it was opening day everybody was overly anxious to help and serve and ask several times over how meal was. It wasn't very crowded when I went at about 8 AM but apparently I had missed a very long line. My order came very quick. I explored their salsa bar that has several different salsas to try and they are in order from mild to spicy. I tried the spicier options and they were pretty good. My taco was executed well, the steak was tender and eggs were cooked well. I think it's very hard for me to say judging on their breakfast tacos alone whether or not this is a home run taco place. I think I would be better served to go back at lunch or dinner time and try those options. That's my only hesitation at giving any more than three stars. It was good but not anything super Duper spectacular as far as breakfast options are concerned in my opinion. But it's hard to have an amazing breakfast taco and really stand out. I can't believe someone would say that your tacos are mediocre. They clearly haven't experienced the goodness of Tacodeli queso or freshly made whole wheat tortillas. This former Austinite was jumping for joy when your new location opened two blocks behind my new home. It really must have been 'fate'! I literally have to drive the opposite direction every morning on my way to work to keep myself from stopping by for a breakfast taco. P.S. I am loving the cold brew! I highly recommend the Cowgirl taco on a whole wheat tortilla. It's not on the main menu, but it's essentially the Cowboy taco with chicken instead of steak. There are so many different ways that you can customize your street tacos, you'll never get bored. They use only fresh ingredients. Super fresh, high quality ingredients and the consistency of the high quality factor is always there. Believe me, because I am a frequent Taco Deli goer. The staff is awesome and super friendly. I've been here many times and I have to say the tacos are good, the salsas are Great! the tortillas are usually not hot, please do something about those limes! Limes for tacos are supposed to be cut in "quarters" and freshly cut, they are always brown and old, we were there this week and the limes were exactly as always, they look like they been in and out of the refrigerator for weeks, I asked one of the guys there if he can give me some fresh limes, he was rude and asked me what was wrong with those limes, I told him they looked old, he looked and me and throw me a 3 slices of lime in a napkin, I did't say anything because I was with other people from the office, but they saw what happened and we all agree to never come back. Sorry but you need to pay attention to those disgusting old slices of lime and more important, never be rude to customers. read more

I was craving tacos and had gotten a Yelp alert a few weeks back that this "hot, new restaurant" was opening up, so I decided to pop in today for lunch. There is ample parking in the lot located directly next to the restaurant. There were only a couple of other patrons ahead of me, so I briefly glanced over the menu and was then quickly escorted to the counter. I decided on the Blue Plate Special with the El Picosito taco, Al Pastor taco, Mexican red rice and refried black beans. The cashier asked if it was my first time, and was great about making recommendations and explaining that my food would be brought out to me--so listen for them to call my name. The beef tenderloin in the Picosito taco was cooked to perfection, full of flavor! The Al Pastor taco was good too, but I liked the Picosito better. They definitely weren't stingy on the portions either, as both tacos were filled with adequate amounts of meat and toppings. The rice and refried black beans were the perfect compliment to the meal. Overall it was a great experience and I will add this place to my list of go-to's. read more

We have been on a role with this place lately. We have been ordering at the office and having it delivered by door dash. My whole office loves it and the hot sauces are superb. I have not tried any taco on the menu that I did not like. The tortillas are home made no matter if they are flour or corn. The ingredients are fresh and go together well. Anything from ATX is usually legit and this place does not disappoint! Tacos galore and the most mouthwatering quest dip- aka Roberto's Brazo Fuerte Dip & Chips. It is an absolute must! Their chips are incredibly light and crunchy and they will give you additional bags! My favs are Cowboy Taco and Happy Taco. The tortilla soup is a must on days you want to go lighter- it's a chicken broth instead of cream or milk. Whatever you choose, you cannot go wrong. I've been to a couple of the taco places in Houston and Tacodeli just did not wow me. They do have a very accommodating menu, for those with dietary restrictions. Couldn't be more disappointed with what I received from Taco Deli. I ordered the beef flank steak taco, that was chewier than I would've enjoyed. I also ordered the shrimposito taco which was terrible the salsa had zero flavor an the shrimp just tasted terrible. The last taco I ordered was the puerco verde taco, I kid you not when I say the first bite I took tasted like blood and iron. This food was absolutely atrocious. The restaurant has a fun, chill vibe with very attentive staff. I had the carne Asada and the Puerco Verde tacos on corn tortillas. These aren't anything gigantic- about the size of a typical street food taco. I ordered the blue plate special so they threw in beans and rice.
