I was excited to try Taco Deli after hearing they had opened a location in Houston, but I have to say the food did not live up to the hype. (1) The chips get served to you in a pre-packed plastic bag (like Tostitos you buy at the store). I was very put off by this because I expected this place to serve fresh chips or at least serve the chips warm? (2) They have an option where you can get your taco as a dip (they just give you the taco filling in a cup). But when they give it to you as a dip, you realize that the ratio of dip to chips is completely off, and it leave you feeling like you got a bad deal. (3) The tacos were nothing special. They came out lukewarm (and the tortillas were not great either) We ordered the Deli Belly, Cowboy, the Ceviche, and a Short Rib taco. I do not think I will come back again, but I will say that you should order the Short Rib Taco if you are set on going to Tacodeli. That was the only one we really enjoyed. read more

After months of my friend telling me to check this place out, I finally got the chance to go! I came for breakfast/lunch with two friends and had a really positive experience. This place has a huge variety of tacos and the service is reasonably fast (and friendly!) considering how packed the restaurant gets! I ordered the Shrimposito (savory, seasoned shrimp with cheese and avocado) and Tikin Xic (grilled salmon, spicy black salsa), which were both very good. The Tikin Xic was a little too seasoned/spicy for my taste, so next time I'm at Tacodeli I might pass on that option. Came here for some quick breakfast time tacos before attending a class, and it did not disappoint! There was a bit of a line, but I was in between 10am and noon on a Saturday, so that's to be expected. I had a vaquero breakfast taco and a specialty taco with very tender pork. One of the tacos came as a combo with rice/beans and the other typical accompaniments. This place is a little pricy but boasts fresh ingredients, so it seemed like an okay value. Yet another Austin transplant placed on Washington Ave. It's a good place to grab some tacos. I've mostly had the breakfast tacos, but they've been ok. Their focus is the farm to table, fresh and better for you approach. Hence the slightly higher price range. I will say you can taste the difference. Menu has a very good number of vegetarian options; more than I've seen at most taco houses. And many can be made vegan style upon request. You can order from the standard menu, but there's also a "taco of the day" option. I like their salsa dona. It's hot, but has pretty good flavor. Service was good. Coffee pretty good. Went here specifically for the breakfast tacos. I got 7 "make your own" with potato, egg, sausage and avocado. I wish there would have been a way to add a 5th item (cheese). I would have been willing to pay extra but there's no way to do more than 4 toppings on the online orders. At any rate, the tacos were delicious. You would think breakfast tacos would be more plentiful since they're relatively easy to make but they're not always easy to find. These were filling, had good ingredients and a great flour tortilla. Also, they had very efficient customer service for takeout with all the COVID stuff going on. Overall it's definitely worth a try. Meh. Taco Deli earns a mediocre star from me. I first tried this chain in Austin, TX. That time, we had the breakfast tacos and they were pretty decent. This time, I tried a Houston, TX location for lunch. Not very impressed I'm afraid. Everything was just ok. The Tacoloco: This was decently good, but a little on the spicy side. I got it with a corn tortilla. The brisket was actually kind of dry which was disappointing. Rating: 3 The Shrimposito: While the flavor of the shrimp was actually good on this one, it did not pair well with a corn tortilla! Tacodeli is another Austin transplant that's making its mark on Houston. It's located right next to Platypus Brewing and close to B&B Butchers. Your first question might be how does Tacodeli compare to Torchy's, another Austin transplant? They both have creative menus with Tacodeli offering more taco options. It's a pretty big menu! You can order your taco or flour, wheat, or corn. A nice way to put it is that Tacodeli is a healthier version of Torchy's with a lot of organic ingredients. They also offer salads, chips and salsa, chips and queso, etc. You can even make it a combo with two tacos of your choice, rice, and beans. Plus, agua frescas. Here's the downside. They're only open for breakfast and lunch (close at 3 PM). They don't list their prices on the menu above the counter where you order. I found this pretty peculiar. I want to know how much things cost before I order! While I know the ingredients are quality, I just didn't like the taste of the tacos as much as I do Torchy's. Because of the short hours, we never made time to come try it out until this weekend. I got a breakfast taco from Tacodeli at a farmers market I often go to on Saturday mornings in Tanglewood and it was great! I haven't been here in years since we moved from houston. It's an Austin based taco place like torchy is. Parking is one way so be careful in the parking lot since there is that rush coming off washington. This is during Covid so there was not a line when ordering so that was good. I love seeing the options of salsa levels and I normally don't use salsa but my weak self was able to handle level 3 the green one out of 4 hot levels. I usually get breakfast tacos, and you can custom build your own if you are on a certain diet. I love the cute decor around, like the tables. Taco Deli! Super convenient location to where I live, and thus my go to taco stop. They are now open all hours of the day, including dinner, which makes it super convenient! That was my only gripe about taco deli before was that their hours were hard to catch (would close at 3pm etc) but now open til 9pm. They have a variety of mix and match breakfast tacos (have yet to try these out), but I definitely just come here for their lunch/dinner tacos. My favorites are the steak fundido and shrimposito tacos. They are sooo jam packed with flavor, and they give quite a lot of protein to fill in. The tacos range from about $3.95-$4.95 per taco depending. My other favorite thing here is the sandia agua fresca aka pure watermelon juice aka pure refreshing bliss. These tacos are more Americanized and run $4 to $5 each but every single taco I've tried here has been delicious. Yayyyy! I've been wanting to try Tacodeli for some time now, but everytime I'm in Austin, we somehow cant squeeze it in. Today that changed when the FIRST Tacodeli Houston location opened up! I called in to see if they had reached their first 100 shirts, and they had not! The guy on the phone took my order, and said it would be ready in 10 mins, I ordered 6 tacos. When I got there, there was a line out the door. I walked into the separate side door for online and call in orders, went right to the register, no line. Checkout was easy, they asked if I wanted any sauces, or needed any help picking out sauces. They had some packed ready to go. I ordered el popeye, the vaquero, the jess special, and the otto without bacon. My favorites were the vaquero and jess special. The el popeye was good too, spinach was fresh and the taco was not watery as I was expecting. The eggs in all the tacos were great. I got a wheat tortilla for all tacos, but they offer flour and corn as well. Tortillas were awesome. They have about 4 different sauces, red - mild, verde, the dona, a jalapeño poblano sauce (my fav!) and a habanero. I also ordered the pineapple. lime. jalapeno agua fresca. It was super tangy, not sure If I would try that again.. Watermelon sounds promising. Came here on a nice Saturday afternoon for lunch and was able to easily find parking nearby. I got the carne asada and mojo fish taco. Both were delicious but my favorite was the carne asada! Usually seafood tacos and be hit or miss but i really enjoyed the mojo taco as well. The chips and guac are decently portioned (got a medium) and could be split amongst two with some leftover. As I was dining I did see people walk in thru the main entrance and cut the line bc they didn't realize it wrapped around and that people entered thru the side by the pick-up/to-go register. This place is great and there is so much free parking!! I came with a few friends and had to wait about 5 minutes in line. I got the blue plate special with the Pollo fantastico and the Frontera fundido chicken both on flour(their tortillas are fantastic!). The plate comes with your choice of beans and rice. Both were good just a tad salty. Pollo fantastico: the shredded chicken in this taco was perfectly seasoned and juicy. The Green Chile sauce and crema complimented the chicken well. Frontera fundido chicken: I wasn't much of a fan of this one. The chicken was a little too dry and the poblano-onion rajas made the already dry taco drier. I had to add a lot of their salsa doña to make this taco good. Salsas: If you like spicy their habanero is similar to torchys but less gritty. Their salsa doña is absolute perfection. Hands down the best salsa at any taco place I have been to. Even beats out a lot of those authentic taco trucks. Overall the atmosphere is great, food was good and I can't wait to go try more tacos. Best people running the place and just down right makes you smile when you eat them. Yes there is a wait, yes parking is ok and yes they have the ever so awesome Pollo en Mole, God I could down a dozen of those things if I was 20 something again. I love tacos. But it's difficult to find places that accommodate for vegetarians. Props to Tacodeli for having 6 vegetarian options! Space Cowboy (5/5): generous amount of guac & mushrooms were cooked perfectly & had a nice texture compared to the usual soggy mushrooms you get from other taco joints Papadulce (4/5): yummy but could use a little bit of sauce to flavor it up My friend had the Mojo fish and said it was packed with flavor. They had ran out of the Texas Drum & replaced it with salmon. The acidity of the pico complemented the savory seasoning of the fish, and the creaminess of the guac brought the whole taco together very well.
