Good friendly service from Ashlynn, fair drinks, and ok food. Having had the Baja fish taco at TPC, I was so looking forward to this visit as that taco was pretty darn good. A visit to the restaurant provided a flat, overcooked, and dried out piece of "fish" that I suspect had been sitting under a lamp waiting for someone to order it before it had to be tossed in the trash. Lucky me. The asada taco was not bad but the meat chunks were actually too big which to me is just lazy. Asada needs a fine dice to soak of all the flavor and from the marinade. My wife ordered an avocado taco and added chicken but didn't expect some boiled in unseasoned water chicken. #blandblandbland I will add that the Henry's queso and guacamole appetizers were very good. And the chips were decent and thankfully warm unlike other reviews I've seen. Unfortunately, for me, this is an over-rated Jax Beach staple and this place was packed. Wait wasn't horrible at about 40 minutes. Probably more of a 2.5 star but that fish taco just left me disappointed. My husband has been dying to try Tacolu, so we finally went. My daughters loved the ambiance. The decor is very cool and unique. The food was delicious. I got the banging shrimp taco. I would have liked it to be a little more spicy, but it was good. I also got a side of the Mexican street corn, which is a must!! So good! I ordered tequila mojito and now I am hooked. It was refreshing and a perfect drink for sitting on a beach lol!! My husband definitely enjoyed his meal as well. There is not a printed children's menu, so just ask your server. The vibe of the place is immaculate and their selection of tequilas and alcohol are top tier. But those are the only things that are truly great about this place.... The food is sadly mid. I've had 6 different taco selections from the bang bang shrimp (people rave over this but I thought this one was the most mid of all), to the $10 and the mahi taco. All of it is mid. It taste like my 16 year old niece made tacos for the first time then gave it me. Now it's not THAT bad!!! It's for sure edible, but it's all pretty bland. For all the 5 star reviews this place gets you'd think the food would be a little better. Now.... First time to Taco Lu and had a 5 star experience. Complimentary valet parking and the guy working was very nice. Was seated right away in the back room. I really did not expect the restaurant to look the way it does! It felt like we were in a log cabin. Not beachy like I expected lol. Our server for lunch on a Friday was great and very laid back. I started with a margarita with mezcal and enjoyed it. I liked that we could get small orders of guac and queso since it was just 2 of us. The guacamole had garlic in it and pumpkin seeds on top which I loved! I picked 2 seafood tacos and can't wait to go back to try the other ones. The scallop taco was $6.99 and had big scallops in it! I love Flying Iguana's scallop taco and this was just as good. I also really enjoyed the bang bang shrimp taco. I was deciding between the fried bang bang one and the blackened shrimp. I don't eat a lot of fried food, so this was a treat. Next time I'll try blackened shrimp and the salmon taco that my friend loved. My husband and I love Taco Lu. We live in Orange park but happily drive out to the beach for some tacos here. I've never had anything here that I did not like. 5 stars all around. We had a snapper taco when it was in season and definitely one of the best tacos we've ever had. The Mexican street corn is to die for. Excellent! This is a must try here in Jacksonville! We had such a great time here. The hosts were all happy and welcoming. The allowed me to walk around the restaurant if I wanted to take pictures while we waited for our table. The restaurant decoration was fantastic, inside and out, great attention to detail trying to recreate a Mexican culture! The offer FREE Valet Parking which is awesome. But there is also plenty of parking around. We were here on a Thursday night, around 6:30 pm. Obviously not too crowded, they say that it gets really busy on the weekends starting on Friday afternoon for happy hour! They also have a full bar, so many drinks, so many options. The atmosphere was perfect. People are here to enjoy and to have a good time. They have seating inside and outside, and they have heaters if you get chilly outside. Our waiter was Malachi, he was such a great guy, very helpful, talkative, friendly and quick. Great recommendations, superb service! And the food... it was so good! I wish I had a bigger stomach lol. The carne asada tacos were delicious, the street corn bowl was tasty, our drinks were refreshing. Everything was up to part! High quality food! TacoLu sure knows tacos! Hubby and I have been here a couple of times and it has become one of our go-to taco spots. They walk the line between authentic Mexican and Tex-Mex. They are usually busy but totally worth it. The chips and salsa are super good. The chips are a little on the thicker side which I really like. The salsa has a thick consistency, not all watery and has a nice, spicy kick. I like how the salsa stays on the chip. The tacos are awesome! I really can't choose a favorite. The carnitas is juicy and tender. The brisket taco is delicious with the cotija cheese, cilantro and onion mix. Flyin' Hawaiian is one of the best - sweet and tangy. The chorizo is flavorful without being greasy. If you like shrimp, the bangin' shrimp taco is a must try. You can't go wrong with any taco at TacoLu! read more

Absolutely love this place! Came today to show my family from out of town and they said they definitely want to come back and that the enchilada was the best they've ever had. Vegetarian and vegan friendly. I got the banging tempeh tacos, I get those every-time I come. The salsa is my favorite, just spicy enough and a good consistency. Great price for the food. It's usually pretty busy because of how great the food is but the service is always fast. I've never had a bad experience. I believe our server was named Kylie and she was awesome! Very sweet and attentive and offered recommendations. I would say that personally their guacamole isn't my favorite, if you like your guac more creamy and less chunky than this guac would be for you! Local favorite, I absolutely love the bangin dilla! Also highly recommend their salsa and queso. I used to be a bigger fan of the specialty tacos, but over time they just haven't been my favorite. Better to stick to the order that never fails. Great outdoor seating area, although wish there was more parking and that you didn't have to valet here. This has been our favorite go to spot since it opened. I grew up in Jax and have lived away but we still have our place so we come back often. This is our favorite place for tacos and drinks. We've lived in Dallas part time so we have a plethora of great Mexican food and Tex- Mex. TacoLu is our absolute favorite and we haven't found anywhere that has the Carne Royale. The decor is amazing! We went at 2:15pm on a Saturday and the place was packed. The service was great, and we didn't have to wait very long for our food. The food was so delicious and there are so many selections to choose from and it's vegetarian friendly. The only downside is the drinks are nothing special. I ordered sangria and one lonely taco, John ordered 2 tacos and of course the chips and salsa hit the table before even speaking to the server! John wanted me to try the $10 taco a steak taco, we also ordered the brisket and the Jimbo (chicken). While John loves that $10 taco- the brisket was the one that blew me away with flavor! On a busy Thursday.. we were seated In the bar area... Warning : the acoustics are horrible here. It is very loud.but we were hungry. So the chips and salsa are pretty good... My vegetarian taco was very good ..yes I was surprised with good mushrooms.. corn off the cob and spinach... Different and good...not soggy. This is a huge staple of Jacksonville. The main issue I have with the tacos is that I just want to take all the fillings out and eat them without the tortilla. Honestly would love them to pay as much attention to the tortillas as they do for the filling of the tacos. Dining area is enormous inside and out, so sometimes it can be slow with service. If you go in knowing that it helps just sip on some drinks and enjoy the company. If you have not tried this place it is a must try if you are from out of town it is an experience in itself and will continue to be for years to come. read more

I've been frequenting TacoLu since they were further down Beach Blvd located in the opposite side of the road and in a much smaller establishment. TacoLu is one of many restaurants in Jax that I say has a "cult like following" due to the tremendous crowd it brings at all hours of the day. And for good reason! It is such a cool atmosphere with the graffiti skulls and chill vibes. On the menu you will find a variety of tacos as well as dips, sides and cocktails.
