Taco Lu is probably the single most talked about place in Jax beach! The atmosphere perfect and the staff is always cool! If you come on a weekend tho expect a wait. In terms of their food, I really like their street corn and the ten dollar taco! If you are looking for a casual Mexican food place with reasonable prices this is the place for you. Their nachos are amazing and the queso is delicious. Tacos are reasonable (approx $4 for each) and food arrives quickly. Our server was attentive and helpful with food suggestions. There is a kids menu which is very reasonable as well. I'm docking one star because the restaurant is LOUD making it hard to have a conversation with those at your table. First time visiting Taco Lu and I absolutely loved it! Lot of my friends have been telling me to visit this place and their tacos are sooooo good! I completely forgot the name of the shrimp taco but it was my fave! Whatever sauce that's on the taco is so flavorful. Also chatted with a local at another table and they mentioned that this place is haunted. Apparently there was some history of spirits and ghost still roaming the building. Not sure if this is true but it's always interesting to hear what locals think. And major thanks to the waiter for letting me take photos all over the place with my food. This is one nice restaurant. Many different rooms throughout with a cool Mexican theme. We sat in the outdoor patio that had quite a bit of tables, 6 feet apart. Our server, Grace, was great at helping us order and making recommendations. They gave us complimentary chips and salsa and we ordered queso ($6.99) to go with them. For drinks, we had a sangria and glass of wine. Due dinner we ordered the chorizo taco and the $10 taco. All the food was really delicious. I don't believe I've ever started a review by complaining...but here it goes... *Complaint: there is only one location and it's too far away from where I live to frequent...Poo! {{{Waaaaahhhhh!!!}}} - How can this be fixed?: Open a location in St. Augustine or St. Johns somewhere...like in Durbin Park off 210 or in the Palencia area along US 1 if you don't want to go all the way in town. ["Pretty Please with sugar on top"!] Moving on...I've heard about this place for a long time (like a few years ago+...literally), but again, it's too far unless you (me in this case) are in the area. But I finally made it and I can understand all the hoopla...this place does not disappoint. The unique taco and margarita selections are a reason to go alone! Add the amazing chips & salsa, entrée selections, salads and veggie options and you've got a home run for any appetite. I would eat my way around the menu if it was closer for sure (hint, hint)! It's a good thing I go with folks that don't mind a little taste/sampling of their food. The décor inside and out is unique and welcoming. A perfect place for relaxing and hanging out for a meal and a few laughs. They can accommodate large groups and have an outdoor area too. There is ample parking, and they do offer valet just in case. Let us not forget about the staff...they are super friendly and ready to answer any questions you may have and/or request. It's not every day I give a Mexican restaurant 5 stars since I am a self-proclaimed Mexican food snob after living in Texas for 7 years and New Mexico for 5 years. The other two were really good though! My husband got the Rosa something taco. It had seared ahi tuna in it. Now, we are both big sushi fans. And I love raw fish, but this fish in this taco...it was inedible. SO fishy. It tasted very low quality. Idk. I can eat some gross and disturbing things, but I couldn't handle this. Really liked the vibe of the place. Their drinks were delicious and I enjoyed their extensive tequila list. Wasn't a fan of the menu situation or the payment situation. Although we're not from Jacksonville, Taco Lu is a spot we always come to. We had a 10 top and put our names in at 630 on a busy Saturday. We were sat within the hour and for the waiting time grabbed drinks at the bar with our group. Once we sat down there were chips and salsa on our table within minutes. If disappointment were a flavor, this fish taco would be the gold standard. Dry, flavorless, and somehow both overcooked and underwhelming. I come here for the company. The people I meet here. I'm not a huge fan of the food but I will say the chips (with the chips n salsa) are fabulous chips. The salsa is HOT and the queso is pretty darn good. But overall, it's alright. I did have what Guy Fieri suggests, which was the Rosa, but I had the sauce on the side (didn't even try it) and a fried egg on top....because although it was Friday, I wanted brunch and the ONLY way to make anything here brunch is to add an egg. If you know me, you know my favorite day is Taco Tueday! This week, I took a trip down to TacoLu. We were immediately welcomed by 2 smiling faces who were eager to get us a table. After sitting down, we kicked the afternoon off with a round of guacamole. The guac here is unbelievably creamy with roasted pepitas for a nice crunch. Following the guac, we gazed over the menu which was full of one of a kind tacos. The options were so appetizing i could hardly decide what to order. After coming to my decision, I then asked for the the the black and bleu taco which includes filet mignon, bacon, bleu cheese, caramelized onions, and mushrooms. This complex taco was like nothing i've ever had before, talk about quality! I then moved on to the blackened shrimp which was cooked to perfection, so pillowy and juicy! This taco served as a lighter palate cleanser to prepare me for the carnitas taco. The carnitas taco uniquely was marinated in coca-cola and orange juice, brining a light zest with the lime wedge squeezed on top. A little disappointed that it crumbles when you pick it up. It looked more like those tortilla you buy from the grocery store. The meat (eg. Pork and chicken) are tasty but on the dry side. I craved tacos on Taco Tuesday, and did a quick Yelp search for a taco spot nearby. TacoLu appeared, and I was on my way. I did not expect a crowd on a Tuesday evening, but the parking lot was packed and there was a 20 minute wait for a party of 1. The front of house service wasn't welcoming and the ladies seemed annoyed at my presence, but I decided to wait for a table anyway; and I'm glad I did. 10 minutes later, I was seated with Grace towards the back of house. Her 'grace' and personality alone turned my experience from a 2 to a 12. She offered suggestions, was patient as I navigated my first visit in and was just so nice overall. The bangin' shrimp taco was my favorite, and the sopapillas?! I will travel daily just for another order of those. They were fluffy, flaky and topped with agave honey and ice cream that sent my tastebuds on a ride to heaven. Tip: pass on the guacamole. It's bland, and more like plain mashed avocados. One of our favorite places to go for tacos and atmosphere. This place is alive with music, conversations, positive vibes and great food. Don't want to wait in line. Use the no wait app through Yelp. Base your arrival time on how many people are ahead of you. Saves you time as many of the times we have gone the wait has been out the door. The longest we have waited with the app at the actual restaurant was 15 minutes, amazingly good for one of the best places for food. The staff is great and very hardworking. Pleasant to interact with and never pushy in rushing you to order. The place is casual with great decor. Now let's get to the food! Very accommodating to food allergies and gluten free. Fresh Ingredients, food presentation enlightening and always warm to the touch and taste. They have gluten free chips also and the salsa is complimentary. I love the Queso, it's a must try! My favorite taco is the $10 taco for $4.99. It's worth every bite. So sit down and eat, drink, laugh and conversation you'll be glad you did. TacoLu is a must stop anytime I even pass through Jacksonville. IMO is worth a detour to Jax Beach just to enjoy a jalapeño margarita and some tacos. My personal faves are the $10 taco (not really$10) seasoned filet mignon in a for tortilla with Jack cheese, cotija, Pico free Gallo $4.99 and MY FAVE The Carne Royale, Carne asada with brie cheese and grape salsa $5.99. It may not sound appealing but a jalapeño margarita is OMG delicious. Tequila Blanco with a jalapeño cucumber puree. You can taste a hint of cucumber that refreshes the slight heat you feel from the jalapeño. Yes, the cucumber softens the strong pepper flavor. This wonderful beverage is $10 but worth every penny. The Lu is just across the bridge of you're coming to Jax Beach from I95 as your coming in to Jacksonville Beach. They offer valet parking. It was just okay. First of all... lemme say, they have forced valet I guess. You roll up to the parking lot and there's a little valet canopy that you drive up to and they just immediately take your keys and park your car. There's no information about what's going on. There's a sign that says "free valet" but I'm guessing it's pretty much required. I really didn't like that at all. It seemed a bit aggressive. As for the food...Fish tacos were pretty basic, they were good but nothing that stood out to wow me. I could of made it at home. The fish seemed fresh though, I think I would of preferred it to be on a flour tortilla instead of corn tortilla. The sauce on it was good. I also got the side of street corn and I could not eat it, something about it reminded me of throw up. There was left over juice that filled up half the bowl that was so unappetizing, I just couldn't. My fiancé ended up eating it and dipping his chips in it. Thankfully I ordered that because he only got 2 "$10 tacos" they definitely wouldn't of been enough to fill him up. He did say those tacos were very good though. We got 3 fish tacos, 2 "$10 tacos", one side of street corn, 2 beers and 2 waters for $35ish. The atmosphere was okay-ish. We got sat for the first seat that opened and it was outside. Not the best, there were fans but none on us. It was very crowded at certain points because people would come to the back deck where there are guests seated eating and they would sit there on the bench waiting for their names to be called. At one point we had about 10 people sitting about 5 feet behind us waiting on the benches. In my opinion, the back deck should be closed off to people waiting to be seated. Also on the back deck you can smell the dumpsters so you might want to skip that area if it's a hot day.
