Stumbled upon Tacombi on Yelp while looking for somewhere to grab a quick bite. Really glad I did! We went here Saturday around 6pm and it wasn't very busy, but it could be because it was raining nonstop. It's a pretty big taco spot! We were a party of 9 and were seated easily. It's probably one of the more "pricier" taco spots at $6+ per taco, but I will say the flavors are worth it! The service was quick and the tacos were great! The customer service was good as well. Met the manager Paola who came to check on our table and she was such a sweetheart! Drinks: I tried the spicy poblano margarita which didn't do it for me. It was very blah. My other friends had the "sandia santa" and were raving about it so I decided to try it. This was way better! I loved it as well. Food: I ordered a Al pastor and a Sinaloa shrimp taco. They are fairly small but my God was the flavors BIG! They remind of authentic tacos I've had when I worked on the Mexican borders. Both were soo, I ordered 2 more of each! Yummy tacos on their Vista Hermosa corn tortillas... about 9-10 different yummy fillings, from pork, chicken, beef, fish, shrimp, beans etc. approx $5.50-7. Love their corn in a cup (esquitesi). The watermelon agua de sandia is super refreshing (non alcoholic). I'm sure they also have great margaritas. Multiple locations in NYC, Chicago, Miami, Bethesda, Arlington etc. I've also been to their location near Empire State Building. I visited this restaurant on a Friday afternoon because I wanted a frozen margarita. It was so good and refreshing. I ordered the Al pastor taco, carne asada taco and corn esquites. The service was great and the waiter was very helpful. The food was delicious. I really enjoyed the corn esquites. I'll definitely return to try the other margarita flavors on the menu. Coming from LA, this was alright. I met up some coworkers here as a nice casual spot to catch up. The staff was fairly slow to catch our order so this place does get busy. As for tacos, I tried the seafood tacos for something different since I usually get the other meats back home. It was ok but in my opinion well overseasoned so I didn't think they stood out. I'm sorry, I cannot wrap my head about these good reviews. Yelpers, you have lead us astray. We had one of the most bizarre dining experiences in NYC to date here. For one, we understand that it's smaller plates, BUT, their menu is highly deceptive. If you are expecting an actual quesadilla, pressed together between tortillas, that's not what you are getting here. What you'll get it actually a TACO, and it's 5" at best, not 7" as advertised. See posted pic with measurements. The tacos I saw other people eating were 3" big at best. So, believe the reviews that complain about portions. No one warns you at the restaurant and their menu is false advertising. The "Ribeye" quesadilla was SIXTEEN dollars and I'd bet ten times that much that it wasn't even ribeye. No marbling or fat, well done and tough, no flavor - a couple shaved pieces. All very strange. The pastor was better than the ribeye but very salty. Also served on a tiny tortilla like a taco. $10. Horchata was just ok. Watered down. We actually only ordered them because their table water tasted so much like plastic that it wasn't drinkable. $5 each. Guacamole was decent (not great) but was served with overly thick chips that seemed stale and we weren't asked whether we wanted a small or a large (we didn't even have menus yet) so they automatically brought us, two people, a large for $15. Beans and rice were bland and ended up not eaten. Served in a cup with a bunch of chopped onion on top, and came out way before the rest of our food. I did enjoy the two salsas. Service was pleasant but slow and it was not at all busy. I would not come back. I'm disappointed we spent one of our evenings in the city giving this place a try. We left thinking about finding a different place to eat some more since it felt like we had just gotten a couple appys. Alas, we decided to just bag it. Fantastic (and reasonably priced) frozen marg, but my crispy chicken tinga taco was extremely dry. The chicken tinga is described on the menu as chicken thigh, but the meat itself was so incredibly dry I suspect it was actually white meat. Good HH spot with BOGO tacos on Tuesdays. read more

I like the vibe with the decor and dim lighting. I also enjoy how much space there is. We were seated quickly on a Thursday around 7pm. I'm sure it gets busy on certain days/times. Drinks were good and strong. I really enjoyed the guac and chips. The guac had more flavor than the tacos to me. I had the beef birria and carne asada and it was 80% spice and didn't have as much flavoring as I'd assume. I preferred the beef because the broth added more flavor. We have been going to Tacombi regularly on Tuesday's because of their BOGO tacos offer. Recently they have revamped their menu a lot. Lots of tacos are gone. They have introduced new items. Crispy fish, beef birria, shrimp are some of the best ones to me. The restaurant well maintained its dining space. The tacos get served super quick. Everytime we go for lunch, we get done with 25-30 minutes. They have excellent service. Regularly empty plates are taken out. Tacombi is a great spot if you're craving tacos in a fun, slightly upscale setting. I had their mango margarita, which really hit the spot, just the right mix of tart and sweet with a bold mango flavor and a tajín salt rim that paired perfectly with the food. I tried the carne asada, al pastor, and shrimp tacos, and each one delivered. The carne asada was flavorful and tender with a generous portion, the al pastor had that perfect balance of spice and tenderness, and the shrimp was plump and juicy. I'd come back here in a heartbeat just for the Mezcalita alone. It was so delicious! It was nicely balanced with the sweetness and the smokiness of the mezcal. The burritos are also super tasty! That means can take a date and not even feel like you're out any cash if it doesn't go well. Granted, that date needs to be good with the Garage Decor Vibes and call me if you need me service typical of all Tacombi locations, but if they can't hang with a casual night out, are they really worth investing more? Since Tocombi was doing a collaboration with Califa de Leon, I decided to go here for lunch to check them out. I was pretty excited and couldn't wait to try their Michelin taco. When I got to the restaurant, I asked if I can't take my order to go. They said no and that for those Califa De Leon taco, I'm suppose to eat it at the restaurant. Okay, fine. I wasn't thrill as I need to rush back to the office but okay I'll sit in. At least I thought to myself, the steak taco should be even more delicious because it's made fresh so the meat will be even more juicy, succulent, rich and yummy. Then after waiting about 15 min, my meal came out. OMG, the steak was paper thin, it was dry and flavorless. It was sitting on two corn tortilla with two condiment and nothing else. I think the only thing that save that meal somewhat is the corn tortilla. Otherwise, the whole taco itself was an embarrassment. For them to gloat about not having add on so patrons can enjoy the tenderness and flavor of the meat is a joke. For these two tacos, it ended up costing me $18. With this in mind, would I recommend these tacos to anyone. You guessed it....nope. Save your money and check out the real joints that's scattered all around NY for something more authentic tasting then at Tacombi. I enjoyed my tacos and piña colada during a bustling Happy Hour coincidentally on "taco Tuesday ". The waiters at the bar were pulling double duty for the entire establishment. We came to Tacombi on a Friday night around 630pm. We didn't need a reservation. This music and lighting were great. I loved the food and drinks and prices and simplicity. They also have very solid plant based, vegan options. The avocado tostada and black bean and sweet potato taco were amazing and you can have them remove the cotija cheese without an issue. The chips and salsas and guacamole were also excellent. The special barbacoa taco and soups were also very good I was told. The drinks were also tasty and simple - I enjoyed a Paloma and the Spicy Margarita and Monopolio beer. I'll definitely come back. The only reason it wasn't a 5 is our waiter wasn't very enthusiastic and we had to flag him down to ask for things rather than him checking but , that said nothing with our orders was wrong so ultimately service was ok. On a night out with a half dozen friends and sat outside with the space heaters on, this was a good option for us. I order a couple of tacos and having been to this place before at it's other locations I knew that it was going to be decent and it was. This is a good option for both lunch and dinner with a nice menu where it's not hard to find something most can order. Usually people get a drink too and so you can expect that this is not one of the cheaper options but it's decent enough you won't be too mad about it. All of the locations seem pretty consistent so doesn't matter which one you pick. read more

Exceptional tacos at Tacombi! We were looking for a good Mexican place and I was blown away by their food. Not only was service fast but the prices are amazingly affordable. I would come to Tacombi Flatiron again IN A FREAKING HEARTBEAT. We discovered there were Tacombi locations in NYC by accident and flipped out in jubilation! Our first experience at a Tacombi was in the Design District of Miami - where else amiright and what best a location to have our first experience with this chain than MY-JAM-I?!! There is absolutely no false hype in Tacombi. If you have one in your area, get your butt over there PRONTO. Tacombi not only has a cool dining concept going for it, the restaurants are sooooooo amazingly cool, trendy, vibey and well designed, it's a fun place for large groups as well as for a date or for a smaller gathering for friends to meet up, pop in and hang out in a super chill, relaxed, casual setting. It's a sit down, full service restaurant but without the stuffiness or touristy-ness of typical NYC full service places. The menu is simple and straightforward and you order like you're placing a sushi order - mark your order on the paper menu using a mini golf pencil and give your order sheet to your server. The street tacos are delicious. Everything comes out hot and fresh from the kitchen. You can tell the ingredients are fresh, the meats are quality cuts and marinated just right. Chips are free and unlimited AND THEY'RE SOOOOO GOOD - HEARTY, CRISPY CRUNCHY LITTLE TRIANGLES OF DEEP FRIED GOODNESS. The tortillas were not cooked, the meat was soo weird (like not birria, just red, and way overly flavored not in a good way), the pico was old and wilted, the extra guacamole was brown. This was ordered at like 1pm on a Tuesday. The location in the WV is a little better but tbh both have gone down hill in the last couple years. Tried both of the Callifa de Leon tacos. The meat alone was better than expected, but it wasn't good enough to carry the taco by itself. It required the salsa. I'm reading other reviews saying that chips are free, but we weren't offered any. The tacos weren't bad, but I wouldn't make a dedicated trip just to try them. Saw them on the news and found a location right next to work, so I went with a friend. Nice big space. It felt like being in a food court, but it's all 1 restaurant. We were seated, and they gave us each a slip of paper that was the menu. Little pencils were in a cup for us to mark our orders. The waiter came around and took our drink order and asked if we wanted guac and chips and took the slips of paper. Guac and Chips were good. We enjoyed the chips, it was not greasy and it was very crispy. The watermelon juice was delicious, not watered down like other places. Al Pastor was ok. It didn't have much flavor but tasted better after some salsa verde. Fish was delicious, definitely getting this again. This is a great location hidden on 24th. The service is outstanding. We were sat right away and the food and drinks came out so quickly. Not to mention how friendly our server was. We got the special rib eye tacos and quesadilla, and literally had to order another round because they were so good. The margs are great as well. We walked in on a weekend evening and there was a short line to see the hostess. There was a lot of seating available outside and we were able to be seated immediately, but the service was not good. The outdoor seating is spacious. However, it took a long time for anyone to get our order, a long time for the food to arrive, and we had to ask the wait staff for service multiple times. They did not serve us water the entire time we were seated. We came because we wanted to try the Callifa de Leon tacos and we tried both the beef and pork Callifa de Leon tacos. We also ordered corn esquites, guac and chips, the baja crispy fish taco, the beef birria taco, the watermelon aguas frescas, and the orange lupita soda. The corn esquites was our favorite item, even though the portion was small, and the chips were good and crispy! The guacamole was average. The birria taco and watermelon aguas frescas were also good and my friend enjoyed the fish taco. We asked 3 different people for the salsas that were supposed to come with the Callifa de Leon tacos, since it was just tortilla and meat, but it took them an extremely long time to bring the sauces, and by the time they brought the salsas the meat was cold and no longer good. Amazing trip into the city because we were blessed by a parking garage around the corner from this gem. (There's another location in Westbury!) We started with the Guac & chips & corn esquites which paired together perfectly. For the Corn Esquites: In the words of my boyfriend; "I can shovel a tub of that into my mouth all day." Which is also completely accurate- it's crack! I loved adorning my tacos with it. One was enough to share between the two of us. The sweet potato black bean taco was a slam. Little bit of corn on top perfected it in my taste buds. All tacos were perfectly sized; I could be stuffed with 2 but felt blessed with the third. The pork tacos were savory and each had their special zing about them. My bf had a chicken taco & chicken quesadilla that melted away before I could get a snap shot!
