Recognized some of the staff from the NoHo location. Got the Pork Adobada Taco $5. Adobada is pork shoulder red adobo sauce made from dried chiles, garlic, and vinegar. Served with pineapple similar to al pastor but this is spicy. I realized that I can ask for Zero spice & it was amazing. (you can always add extra heat from the side counter of salsa & radishes). The corn tortilla was so fresh & slightly puffy. It's a generous portion. Might try the steak sometime, didn't like the dark meat chicken at another location. The cactus looks interesting. From the outside, the elevated restaurant and all white interior looks weirdly intimidating, being on "Park Ave." but it's also around the block from a Barnes & Noble, so a good local addition to the neighborhood. I came here at off hours in a weekday, so there was no line. There are no chairs, just counter you can stand at. At the time I was there, it was easy to get a spot. Even if there is a line, just know it moves fast. This is a go to spot for quick and good tacos. My favorite is the al pastor. You can also ask for grilled onions and peppers on the side which is not on the menu. I've been to the location near Penn Station many times, but found myself around union Square recently and was happy to see that they have a location there as well. So consistent, you can really go to any of their locations and expect to get the same exact food. I've determined that the reason they are so good, is because they have constant turnover. There are so many people coming in, they are so busy all the time, there's no time for the meat to sit out. It's just constantly being cooked and replenished, hot and fresh. Stopped into this location for a quick lunch and it really delivered. I ordered the carne asada quesadilla it was surprisingly delicious. This is a pretty solid taco place, and I do believe it lives up to the hype. The best item I had on the menu was something with a name similar to 'vampiro.' The flavors were very similar to a regular taco here, except it has that crunch aspect to it because it is on a flat, hard-shell tortilla and something else I can't recall (see photo). I thought the crunch made it 10x better and wished I had ordered more of it! The meat was VERY tender very flavorful. I would assume that the restaurant would be more spacious, but I honestly couldn't tell. The day I went, it was CROWDED. It was super hot in the restaurant. I'm saying shoulder to shoulder, eyes craning for an empty corner to eat. And the wait was a bit long, but the food was good! I wouldn't wait in that line again, though. Loving this new location right near Union Square. The staff were very welcoming. Line moved very quick. It is a big clean space. The counter space is divided into stations. First you would put in your order and pay. Then you would go to the next station where they will ask how to put together your meal, using what kind of tortilla. Choices were corn and flour. There are also additional toppings you can add with the server as well as on the side. Limes are provided in a bowl. The adobada, which is the grilled pork was filled with lots of flavors. Such a great location - my favorite taco spot popping up in this area is awesome! My favorite is the adobada - where the pork they use comes from a huge slab that is on a rotating grill. I love alll the oils from the pork that add to the sauce of the taco. The staff all looked super happy and excited on opening day today. The line moved super quick and similar to all the other locations, it is standing room only. It was very bustling as expected - once you get on line, you order and grab your drink, as well as any salsa or guac you order. Hand your ticket to anyone behind the counter and let them know if you want a corn or flour tortilla, and if you want all the toppings. Legit as street tacos can be. A chain here in NYC so similar to The Taco Stand chain in San Diego which too is so similar in taste, style and service as the best street taco stands of Tijuana, Mexico itself. The adobada taco on a corn tortilla con todo (with cilantro, onions, guacamole and grilled pineapple shaved off the "Trompo" were on the level of Tijuana adobada street tacos. This stand operates fast, with already prepared burritos ready to grab and go. I opted for the CHORIZO CON HUEVO and within seconds was handed a burrito, a side of sauce, napkins, all thrown into a plastic bag. The ordering setup is the same; you choose the food item you want--in my case, the cheese shell taco with pork con todo. I've had this before at the Times Square location, but with steak. The employee suggested pork. The employee gave me a ticket, which I gave to another employee. Don't lose your ticket--no ticket, no taco--no bueno. I received my order, and I added some salsa on top. The setup is definitely different, standing only which is great if you're in a pinch. Service was friendly and fast. The tacos though...chefs kiss! I stopped in for a quick meal with friends the other day. I ordered a tamarind juice, guac and chips and a chicken taco and pork taco. The food is always made fresh to order and delicious. Service is great. In fact a manager came up to us and asked if we liked jalapeños and onions and I said yes, and he brought out a plate of roasted ones for us. So nice!
