This taco shop was not just off the highway but it was also off the hook. I ordered 2 barbacoa tacos (probably only available on weekends). They were 2 bucks reach, but had so much goat it was unreal. Huge. And delicious. The awesome team behind the counter made me a small soup, too, using the same goat meat in a delicious broth and served with fresh onion and cilantro. Randomly picking this place as I haven't eaten for a while, I was super hungry for some grub. Tacos Chapala was one of the few options of this corner plaza. Coming in here, some of the decor and signs were unorganized or misplaced. This place is transitioning to a new owner so it's understandable. I ordered a burrito El Pastor as I was wanting to eat fast. The staff were super friendly ! The food came out and they offered grilled onions and grilled jalapeños!!! So cool. Warehouse style type atmosphere. Breakfast burritos were filling and full of traditional flavors. I could taste each ingredient. I asked for beans, chorizo, potatoes, cheese, with no ham and no bacon. I love this place. They should sell coffee. Just plain coffee. read more

The first time we tried coming here they were closed even though it wasn't 4pm as it said that their new hours closes at 4pm. We got there at 3:45pm. Should have been the first sign. Came back another day, and mind you I didn't know how to react or say or do because I was in utter shock! I should have said something but like I said I was in shock. Mind blown and lost for words. I did try calling them but no answer. They closed at 2pm instead of 4pm now because I drove back and the hours changed. I ended up throwing my food away, not touching one bite, of it outside in the hotel entrance trash. Why you say I threw away my food? I paid for my food, and the next person ordered with cash and so on and so forth. The cashier didn't change her gloves, and after the line died down the cashier started to help make the food. She just caught my eye and I was like if she doesn't touch mine I'll be ok. She grabbed a scooper and started hitting the back of the scooper on the palm of her hand with the gloves that she didn't changed after hanging cash. I was like in my head, "Good she still hasn't touched my food." Then the cook put my food down with meat. The cashier then took my food and started to added the salsa and sour cream. She still hadn't touched my food. Then she took the scooper that I mentioned earlier, and scooped up the lettuce and put it in my taco salad. Then she started to cut the avocado and tomatoes that went into the Taco Salad. I was like, "Oh, man!" They put my food in the bag and handed it to me. Like I said I threw it away. Again, I was shock on how unsanitized and unhealthy this was. Especially with COVID. Then started looking at Yelp reviews. Someone said they got food poisoning and wrappers were left on their food. This place has to be my favorite taco spot in the city. The place is very clean and just minding my business I can see the manager Erika is all about it with direction and accountability. The food is amazing I love their El Pastor and my new thing is there puffy taco a must try. I usually go to the one on hammer ln but they seem to never have the masa for the puffy taco so I'll drive 15 mins instead of 3 minutes for them now on. Keep up the great work and food! Absolutely amazing!!! I got 3 tacos (chicken, asada, al pastor), all three were amazing the chicken was so moist (other places are hit or miss with chicken). I got a California burrito with carne Asada. The burrito was pretty big but the burrito itself tasted okay. ATTENTION: I have been coming here for a year on lunch breaks; they hands down have the BEST sauces/salsas I've ever had. However, they suck on their customer service & to go orders now. They CHARGE for ONE bag of chips now, 2 dollars if you want one for your To Go order ! What other Mexican restaurant does that?! They did not used to charge. However, if you eat there they don't charge. What is the difference when you are ordering their food ? Ridiculous. On my most recent visit I had my first ever breakfast burrito since it was about 9:45am. It was really good I got the chorizo with bacon burrito. After adding some of their salsas to it I found that it made it better. I'm not sure if veggies are supposed to come in the burritos but having onions or cilantro or something would've added more flavor as well but as I said it was really good. One thing you get when you come here is consistency. A consistently good food at very fair prices. Their carne asada is off the hook good. I was in LA for two months and went to 2-3 taquerias and taco trucks a week and not a single one was good enough for me to come back. The food in LA is miserable, and everyday I missed Tacos Chapala. Everything about it was good; toasted bread to perfection, good amount of meat, veggies and cheese.
