Very disappointed, my family and I used to love this place. The quality of the food has went down drastically.The prices definitely don't match the food. I saw that birria tacos were on their menu and was excited to try them, they didn't put the broth to dip them in. So I was bummed about that. I ordered a super nachos as well. The meat was really salty and mostly fatty, chips were greasy, no beans and I wasn't fond of the nacho cheese instead of real cheese. My husband ordered a carne asada quesadilla and he asked if I got it from Chapala, because it definitely didn't taste the same. I'm not sure if it went downhill because someone new is running this place or if it's because they are too busy opening more taco trucks and restaurants, whatever it is..we probably won't be ordering food from here anytime soon. read more

Sure they may have off nights, they were out of the barbacoa and tripas this evening. I like the seating area and kudos for the nice salsa bar with pickled hot peppers, catrots, sliced radish, and limes included. Maybe I'm just partial to the offerings of their Loncheria truck, but go here if you are curioua about their breakfast burritos (only served in the morning-- have yet to try it). Had the carne asada fries.. The flavors of the carne asada is on point. The fries are steak fries cut. You can order a medium (probably good for 3 ppl) or large size. They put a dollop of guac and streaks of sour cream. Not quite the atuff you find in SoCal but I would stick to their tacos and burritos offerings here. read more

I guess I'm late to the party. Everybody in town knows about this place except for me. Thanks to DB for his review and tips! He was my inspiration for stopping here. And I'm glad I did. I will add this place to my rotation. They are located on E Hammer in the Pavilion strip mall right above the underpass by Walmart. Close to Suzie's for a guy's reference point. lol They are on the very west end of the mall next door to Love's barbecue. When I walked in I was really impressed with the cleanliness and the decor. It gives you that "Mexico" feel. Reading the reviews and tips I had an idea of what I wanted to order. I have never had carne Asada fries before so I decided to try 1/2 order $5. They were quite tasty. Served with carne Asada, fresh hot steak fries, nacho cheese, guacamole and sour cream. Hold the cilantro. I hate that stuff. After that, I still had to eat dinner so I ordered three pork street tacos. Again, hold the cilantro. $1.50 each. They were very tasty. They slice the pork off that rotisserie thing. To wash all this down I had a large Horchata with no ice. Thanks again, DB! Check out the photos that I posted of my meal and the restaurant. They say a picture is worth 1000 words! The staff was very friendly and helpful. They were constantly cleaning...wiping down tables and cleaning windows. They also have three taco trucks. My favorite and go-to Mexican restaurant. Affordable but great-tasting food choices. Staff are really nice and friendly.

We came here on a whim because it was late in the afternoon and we were hungry for a small bite to eat. We were going to share the nachos but a regular customer urged us to try tie tacos. I had the Al Pastor taco and it was a burst of flavor. I enjoyed every bite. We also had the Queso Taco with Birra and we got the dipping sauce on the side. It was a little too spicy for me but again the flavor was outstanding. I will come here again and recommend that you stop by and try it. read more

Breakfast burrito was on point!!!! 4 stars because the staff needs to smile more and be more friendly and attentive. I asked for bacon, chorizo and ham in my breakfast burrito and the lady said you're wanting 3 different meats?!?? Looking so astonished as if it was unheard of. I'm Mexican, we like all that stuff in our food. We eat eat. Hell, if I wanted 4 different meats what's it to you?! This is not your nice and fluffy pansa you gotta worry about. It's all mines. Lol. It's crazy that I haven't done a review for my favorite taco place in Stockton yet. Well here it is lol. Today I order 4 tacos 1 Asada 2 pastor 1 Barbacoa. For first timers I highly recommend you get the pastor, all the meat is delicious but this is what they are known for... make sure to ask for the pineapple on the pastor tacos takes the taco to another level. They also just added barbacoa really delicious and tender another meat choice I'd recommend. Wide variety of food here also a reason I gave them 5 stars from breakfast to nachos with nacho cheese. While I was there not only did they argue with me about an order THEY got wrong, but they managed to somehow get another customer's order wrong and piss them off too. If I'm paying money, don't argue with me. Don't argue with the customer, otherwise you look unprofessional and just plain cheap. This brand really went downhill. The food and customer service overall. I don't think I've ever had such bad experiences over and over at a restaurant, no matter how much I give it chances. Never going back. This restaurant had hair in my food and the manager made me drive all the way back in order to get my refund instead of refunding me virtually because I. Paid with my credit card. I had to prove that the hair was not my own and show the lady at the cash register proof. Fun fact: the logo (what their yelp profile photo shows) was actually constructed from a large wooden circle and colored screws! Now, I haven't been in the restaurant so I don't fee it's fair to give it 5 stars, but 3 stars definitely doesn't cover how good the food is. So.. 4 stars it is. They also have a taco truck by Nissan car dealership which is where I first tried Chapala and loved it above all other taco trucks. Their food at both restaurant and truck, is no where near as greasy as most taco trucks. Their is no grease dripping out of your burrito and still all the flavor. And... The speak English! So there isn't ever an issue with a misunderstand on your order when you are picky like me and want to add this and minus that. I have enjoyed everything from Tripas to carnitas so I can vouch that all of their meats are tasty as can be. They are also really quick and take call in orders at the restaurant so for my co workers and I with having a 30 min lunch, we are back in time to eat in no time. I'm usually hesitant to order carne asada our, because it tends to be dry or not too flavorful, but the carne asada here is juicy and delicious. The carnitas are great as well. I recently got hooked on the following burrito: the California with nacho cheese instead of white cheese. I like it with carnitas or carne asada, but I think with carnitas is a little better. This burrito comes with the meat, French fries, nacho cheese, sour cream and salsa. It's exquisite. This place is too expensive!!! And used to be one of my favorite taco restaurants but last time i ate tacos here i felt they had tremendously downgraded the love and quality that goes into the taco. Well first the meat seemed kinda like it was cooked last night and it was late in afternoon. Second they began to produce buttered tortillas to disguise the downgraded quality of the tacos as if it might give it more flavor which makes the dull and basic meat under perform all around. I've been coming to tacos Chapala for about two years. The food is good but does not make up for the horrible service. Last night during my visit I asked for a cup of water. The cup of water was for my 1 year old. When I asked the cashier told me that she would need to wait on a couple of customers before she was able to get me a cup of water. I waited until my food was ready which took about 15 minutes and when I went back to ask her she looked at me and walked away and went on a wild goose chase to find a cup. She then said yes they have grilled onions but they only give them when they're available. I asked if they were available she looked over turned to me and said she didn't know. After an awkward moment and long pause I asked her to check. She eventually checked and said that they did have them. What can I say it's now becoming typical to get that blank stare even when I'm speaking in Spanish or in English. And the service here is absolutely horrible. Not a place I would go to for lunch bring any colleagues And 6 month later Disappointing even after six months of not being there. Sometimes it'll be parked over by the car dealership and sometimes it will be parked in the plaza parking lot and I've had everything on the menu with no complaints at all. However, do not go to the restaurant across the street in the plaza. This place is honestly a hit and miss spot. Sometimes my family and I will go get ourselves some quesabirrias and they will be spot on perfect. But recently we have been coming here and our orders are always messed up. We got 2 sets of 3 quesabirrias with everything and a set of 2 plain....I don't know if they read them wrong but they were all plain with one of my tacos having only one piece of onion inside....PLUS on top of that they were bathed in grease which is really unhealthy for a pregnant woman like me or someone with health issues.
