My boyfriend and I went here yesterday for 2 bean and cheese and 2 chorizo and egg breakfast tacos. Service was great and so were the chorizo and egg tacos but unfortunately our bean and cheese tacos were stale and the bean was old, with the oil separating from the beans itself! Not to mention smelled so nasty. We Called and got told to come back the next day to fix the mistake because we live 30 minutes out, only to be disrespected by the manager (I presume) on shift about the tacos. He asked if we ever ate there before, as if to say we didn't know what a bean and cheese taco is supposed to look like. Showed the picture of the said taco to the manager and he proceeded to look down and shake his head and nothing else was said. This is a true historical gem!!! People that don't know about this spot have never had exquisite puffy tacos like the ones served here. I've been coming to this spot since I was a child. It continues to be one of my all-time favorites. We arrived with 10 minutes to closing, and the entire staff was so gracious and kind and welcomed us warmly. We each ordered our puffy tacos and we received them in minutes. There is so much great energy and ambiance and it's hard to take your eyes off the walls with all the antiques and artifacts they've collected over the years. However, when the tacos are served, you can't take your eyes off those. The beef and the tacos are perfectly seasoned and quite savory. Totally mouth watering.The puffy tortilla is both crunchy and chewy at the same time. The guacamole and homemade lemonade are the absolute best. I can't wait to return. read more

My least favorite was the country sausage and egg. Overall everybody was super nice they all said hi to me when I walked in and they said bye when I left. Just ate here it was subpar, the huevos rancheros was a good price but they don't give you potatoes and instead give you bacon. The water also wasn't filtered just tasted like dirty sink water, as for the carne guisada, they gave you a good amount of it in each taco but it was still tough. read more

This was our first time there. Food was good, service was excellent but if you decide to leave a tip for your great server, the way they do it seems questionable. We were asked at the time we paid if we were leaving a tip on the card or cash. We left it on the card, and the cashier gave us the equal tip amount in cash back. We left the cash back amount on the table but further discussed whether we just gave a double tip since we were still charged the cash back AND left the cash back on the table for our server. When we called to ask and get a better understanding of this, the manager would not take our call, saying that he didn't want to speak about how they handle the tips. That alone just seemed shady. But, if you don't mind getting double charged or having your great server getting screwed out a tip if you don't leave the cash back because you figured you already left a tip on your card ... have at it and eat here. read more

This restaurant is what my entire family calls "The Spot." I've been going to this restaurant since I was a little girl and I'm close to a quarter of a century now. This restaurant is great! The food is awesome, the staff is always friendly and the owner is there almost every day sitting at left table, next to cash register. I've had most of the specials but my favorite is and will always be the cheese enchilada plate with rice, no beans and two tortillas. Don't get me wrong the beans are good but I love rice. They have a great chicken fried steak plate too. The best part of this restaurant is when our family finishes eating and we order delicious carrot cake or chocolate cake that the restaurant sells by the counter. This restaurant is great! read more

The refried beans are so tasty. They remind me of how my grandpa used to make them. We got the buenos rancheros special. It came with eggs, bacon, refried beans and tortillas. The eggs were soft and fluffy scrambled. The bacon was crisp and did I mention the beans? The waitresses are very friendly and service is quick. This place is a total hidden gem. Its very close to Lackland Airforce Base. They have two daily specials including the VERY BEST Chicken Fried Steak on Tues and Chicken Fried Chicken and Fried Fish on Friday. When I asked to please tell me why my bill was so high the onwer showed me on these recpit for 2 tacos and coffee was $ 6.21. I have never paid for red sauce? Being back in San Antonio I wanted to make sure I had an opportunity to have some authentic Mexican food for breakfast before heading back to the big D. We drove to the West side of town with some friends this morning, and I was in heaven. I really wanted menudo, but it was $7 for a huge bowl...and since I always just eat the broth and hominy I figured I would pass so I would have room for tacos. I ordered a bean/bacon taco and two barbacoa tacos. The refried beans were silky smooth and perfectly seasoned...definitely cooked with bacon grease by some little old Mexican lady who probably has been cooking forever. Scrumptious. I could have eaten the beans by themselves and been completely satisfied. The barbacoa was exceptional in the fact that it was not really fatty. While barbacoa is not a lean meat anyway, a lot of places leave too much fat in the meat and its a little gross. Not TER...these tacos had a ton of very lean barbacoa. My only problem though was that I am used to barbacoa tacos coming with lime, grilled onions, cilantro, etc to build my taco. These came with just meat and tortilla. Disappointing, however they brought all of the fixins (at no charge) when I asked for them. They also served their tacos on flour tortillas (blasphemy) and I am pretty sure they were not homemade. I still ate every last bight and then even went so far as to finish my friend's chorizo and bean taco. Those beans must have had crack in them or something...I just couldn't stop myself. Mmmm mmm mmm. On top of it all, I paid $6.82 for three very large tacos and bottomless coffee and this included my tip! Gotta love the West side... read more
