We live in Carson but every time we visit our family in Norwalk, we have to pass by Tacos Gavilan new location in Norwalk by Rosecrans because of their great delicious, tasty food. The place is huge, very spacious, very clean. The food superb, lots of variety of choices with our favorites from Super Chicken Quesedilla to Torta Asada and Burritos. The manager esp the staff exceptional. They are very courteous, pleasant to talk to, efficient & great cooks. I did not realized I left my phone at the restaurant, & after 2 hours found it safeguarded by the staff with my credit card & check & cash intact. I dined here last weekend, with my partner and her little sister. From walking in everything seemed fine except for noticing a few stares from the men workers. However nothing to cause alarm or exaggerate over. To note, I am a very noticeably gay presenting woman and i am frequently running into and getting weird looks from people especially men. This however doesn't normally bother me, BUT as I would order for my family, the worker taking my order would constantly smile to himself and look back at his male staff. Making me and my partner uncomfortable to say the least. There was nothing in either of our manners to indicate we were trying to be funny or cracking a joke. So instantly it felt as if we were the ones being laughed at. After we've received our food and sat to eat. I was faced away from their counter, but my partner was faced towards them and spoke her concerns of how they were acting. She said the men were bunched together staring at us and laughing. Whenever I would look over to see what she was referring to they would look away or just pretend to work. The part that made us the most uncomfortable was noticing that they wouldn't do that to other customers. I get people are entitled to their own opinions about people, however your work place is not one to express those especially when working with customers. Came through the drivethru at 630. Ordered the usual, 6 asada and 6 al pastor tacos, two sides of rice. Got to the window and a red flag ahould have gone off when the lady told me 12 tacos with beans. After correcting her, she took the beans out of the bag and replaced it with rice. I didnt think anything of it, assuming that the workers just grabbed the wrong styrofoam container. 20ish minutes later, i got home and after settling down, i opened the bag and found 6 chicken and 6 other tacos that were definitely not carne asada. We called the restaurant to tell them they gave us the wrong order and that we would be bringing tbe food back and the lady remembered me and asked for the receipt number. I drove back with the food the 20ish minutes and went into the store where the same lady checked the receipt and then verified the items. "Oh yeah you did not order this, this is chicken. The rest is right though, thats the carne asada. I'll tell you what, we'll have them make the al pastor tacos for you and even though the rest is right, I'll have them make new ones for you because it's cold." I should hope so, as it looked nothing like carne asada, and its almost an hour later. No apology, no offers of anything to make up for wasted time....and watching them make the tacos.....they used the same scooper to pick up all the meats. I would think that they would use different utensils to avoid cross contamination. Honestly....lousy experience.....i think she was trying to make it seem like she was doing me a favor instead of doing what's right. I'm thinking in hindsight that I should have just gone to Wendy's like I originally planned. This place was always filled with people when they first opened up, which was during COVID. The drive thru was always packed, but now it's a ghost town. With mistakes like this, it's no surprise. I was willing to deal with the chicken tacos, but after taking a good look at the "asada" we had to go back. I just hope that the other person who got my order wasn't on a restrictive diet, allergic to pork or was on a short lunch break or anything. They've only messed up once so they're very, very consistent and I commend them for it. Again I can't emphasize this enough: AMAZING STAFF AND FOOD!!!! I ordered through Postmates for the 2nd time and this is my go to taco place. There are not too many good taco places over here that deliver and they have always gotten my order right. They send plenty of salsa, lemons and onions on the side to make our tacos taste even better. Well I was definitely in need of some tacos. I always drive by this place due to my son's daycare is so close. I love the fact that it has a drive thru so it makes it so much easier to order. Let me just say that I have been to other Gavilan's and I have not been impressed as much as this one. The cleanliness just took me back. It was so clean and everything was individually wrapped for convenience and sanitary reason since covid came into our lives. I had 4 tacos de buche and it was cooked to my liking without no complain or face. Yes it wasnt busy to my suprise during lunch rush but that didnt stop them from keeping the place clean and or having great customer service. They make all orders to go so you have the ability to either dine in or just simply take it home. Well I dined in, and it was great. Constant cleaning, The freshness was always being checked by staff. The soda machine was constantly being wiped down to make sure there was no stickiness. My family's go-to spot for taco Tuesday! We get it to go and eat it at home, my favorite is their cabeza! Very tender and delicious, the tacos aren't very big but 2 is usually enough for me and I'll eat chips and salsa on the side. My parents are big fans of their lengua. The Al pastor and chorizo are also good! If you're looking for something bigger then can't go wrong with the cabeza burrito. They have green and red salsa, the red being hotter but I have to use both since I love the flavor of them equally. Don't forget to ask for grilled jalapeños if you want an extra kick! They are usually pretty spicy so sometimes I eat them and sometimes I don't, yesterday i decided to skip and glad I did because I was told they were hot.
