El Compa Seafood Restaurant price increase faded sign on one entry door. Failed to mark their menus with the correct pricing!

"Mariscos El Compa" is an old Mexican Seafood Restaurant in an industrial neighborhood in Caldwell, ID. We were given menus showing different prices than those we were actually charged! The server never advised us of the increase in food pricing! When we complained they showed us a faded sign, on one of their entrance doors, stating there had been an increase in prices. The food is definitely overpriced, for this establishment category. Grilled thin beef pieces, "carne asada " is a whooping $22. Their fried shrimp were overcooked and expensive, and ice tea was $5...all of this in a mediocre restaurant with the men's bathroom in disrepair. I am sure this price hike is unjustified and done in a sneaky manner, DO NOT patronized them!

OMG! Soooooooo delicious! We grew up in AZ and have been searching for Mexican food that meets the standards we grew up with and this place is that place for us! I got the fried shrimp with rice and beans and my husband got the smothered burrito and customer service was amazing the server was so nice to me the corona I had while waiting for food was coooolllldddd and everything was on point!

The first time here and I will definitely be back! Everything tasted fresh and homemade lots of great options for seafood and for non-seafood dining. It seemed like a busy neighborhood place as every table was filled! The Michelada was the best ever had!

First time in. I say it was okay. I was meeting w a friend, I had my 4 year nephew with me and they only had two tables with customers.. I waited to be seated like the signed said but after while my nephew grew inpatient so we sat at a booth. The server came after a minute or two got our drink order. I took my nephew to the bathroom they are pretty clean, not much of light in there it was a bit dark but it was ok.. My friend arrived, she got her drink we visited for a bit... We order our food the dish I order was I honestly I don't remember but it was so delicious I love the tasted of my food it was so good. My friend order tacos she loved them. The server got confused that she brought me some Tacos of shrimp and than fixed my order. She did say it was her first time. She was good. My nephew was killing flies was his hands he was Entertaining himself lol.. Over all the food was good the place was calm and the flies well its summer it's hard to keep them away. Our server did ok too.

I use to love this place but the last two times the service has been horrible. It's 9:15 we just left. We got there at 8:30 and the sign says they close at 9 while our waitress wasn't as rude as the last one it was still crappy. She passively aggressively let us know we were "lucky" to get there she was going to turn the open sign off. The table infront of us was getting the same "get out" vibes and even asked about it. The waitress said if its slow they close. IF its slow but several tables were turned away. Our food came out so quick but the ostones were not good at all. It's Thursday night so I know Gueros had live mariachi and the service is always amazing. I will never come back here. We left a good tip, we were kind despite the remarks urging us to leave but the service is just going downhill.

The woman with the hoops is beyond rude

I had a rude waitress. She is a bully and made it the worst experience. I love this place and the food is amazing, however I dread walking in and seeing this woman. I'm not sure how to add photos if I did I'd add a picture to show her. beware of this lady

From the amazing calamari appetizer, to the delicious huckleberry martini to the great variety of fish on the menu, to the perfect halibut meal and excellent coffee and doughnut dessert. The bar was hopping and lots of activity, and a fun vibe for sure. Our server, I didn't get his name, but he was wonderful and attentive. We also had a busboy assigned to the table, and he was, as he said, one day away from getting off of training. With that in mind, he had us passing water glasses so he could keep them full, which at this price point was a bit odd, but he was new. Super nice young man I will say! Started with Tableside Guacamole, and it was a bit hot, and they remade it without question, and I personally loved it! I then had the Tableside Caesar Salad, and sadly, it was no doubt the worst I have ever had, and I have had numerous. The lettuce was about 85% white vs the green and was knife-cut into such small pieces it was hard to get with your fork. The dressing, although made right there, had ZERO flavor! It was a Saturday night, but the tables were so close the back of my chair was constantly being knocked into and became annoying. Again, at this price point, they need to do a better job, I think. When the entrees got delivered, the server (not our waiter) actually handed me a scalding hot plate to pass, and I almost dropped it from the temperature! Another sign of poor training. My better half had the Maui Onion Soup and loved it. It was full of flavor and one of the better ones she had had, so that was great. I had their salmon, and sadly, again, it was without flavour. It was dry and overcooked, and even the sauce was unimpressive. That said, it looked amazing on the plate! A friend had the Macadamia Halibut with a similar experience. Another couple shared the Seafood Paella and said it was not prepared properly. I have never had it, so no idea. They indicated the rice was cooked separately, then added, and it should be prepared all together so the rice is infused with the fish flavors. I have no idea, but they seem to be experts! I have heard lots of mixed reviews since it opened, so I had to finally try myself. Was it a fun experience, no doubt, was it beautiful, no doubt, would I go back, I'm really not sure I would say that.

Our server, MJ, did a really great job taking care of us. She was nice, friendly, helpful, and attentive. Our daughter had the Unicorn sushi roll with a side of edamame, my wife had a bowl of clam chowder and the shrimp scampi, and I had the fish and chips (cod; they also offer salmon and halibut, but the halibut, which I would have liked, was double the price at $38). For dessert, we shared the key lime pie. My wife said the clam chowder was OK, but more potatoes than clams. She did like her scampi. Our daughter liked the sushi roll. And, I liked the beer battered cod with the tartar sauce, and their fries were nicely seasoned and fairly crispy ( a little crispier would have been nice). The key lime pie had a rougher texture; I like it more creamy. Still good, though. I liked the exterior of the building. Red brick, arched windows that have a Mediterranean feel, and an exterior staircase that gives a bit of an industrial vibe. I thought it would be a little more upscale inside, but it is more basic wood tables and booths. There is a patio area, and it looks like there is an upstairs patio or dining area as well. All in all, a good first experience. We will definitely return.

While the price point here is higher than a typical date night for us, our experiences have always been worth the price tag. The staff is attentive and offers great recommendations. The table side guacamole is a must. So good and they tailor it to your requested spice level. Be warned, it is enough guac to feed a table of 6. So good. The Firerock entree is a crowd pleaser, and tastes amazing. You can't beat the experience of it getting flambéed at your table. I've also tried various cocktails and have never been disappointed. Reservations are strongly recommended especially the weekend, but usually for the nicer months, most people go for the patio so reservations are mandatory for that. Indoors were pretty empty so you can probably get away with walking in, but for peace of mind, I would recommend a reservation. We went on a Saturday during mid May so people were celebrating Mother's Day and graduation, so we had to make a reservation a month in advance for that dinner service. We got the BBQ duck quesadilla, tableside guacamole, and the signature hot rock filet with a side of zucchini chips sprinkled with cheese. This was more than enough for 2 people as every dish is huge. The quesadilla is delicious, with a good amount of duck. Kind of similar experience to a BBQ chicken quesadilla, but fancier. Tableside guacamole is good - lots of guac but since we were seated outside with a beautiful lake view directly, there were steps so it was not possible to see the guacamole prepared tableside. The server should have mentioned it as we wanted to see the preparation, and we were never informed as such so the premium for the appetizer was not as worthwhile. The hot rock filet was good. I loved the fire show when they pour the mix of cognac peppercorn sauce. The steak was incredibly high quality - really juicy and not much tendon. This is the type of steak I have been seeking in many restaurants that fail to deliver. The zucchini chips side was good, a little flimsy on the batter, but nonetheless satisfying. We got cocktails that were icetinis - a glass with an ice shaped like the glass. They pour a small portion of the drink on the glass and left the rest in the cocktail shaker for us to pour gradually so that the drink is not as diluted, which is a good touch. Service can be improved - I understand the server is fairly new but there should be a minimal amount of experience to serve at such a high end restaurant? Some big misses I had were not giving shared plates until we asked, covering a bit of the show with the arm when pouring the fire cognac, and when requesting the check, he took a pause to place the receipt at the table but failed to see that he placed the check on top of some guac we dropped at the table so my credit cards after payment were incredibly sticky and oily. If people are dropping hundreds for a nice experience, I expected service to be better than that.
