We've rented homes from Tahoe Getaways and have a vacation rental managed by them. and they are by far the best rental management company we've worked with. Our first rental was a ski lease in a beautiful home located in Old Greenwood. The home was gorgeous, well maintained, but most importantly, the Tahoe Getaways team was amazing. We were new at signing a ski lease and Beth was so helpful and also patient as I asked a zillion questions about the rental home and the lease terms. We appreciated the touches and services that TG, as a professional management company, provided: a 24 hour on call agent (who responded immediately to an 8pm service call); advice on selecting the best home for our needs - we had three young children and wanted a child safe home that was spacious enough to invite up friends; and housekeeping service during our stay. We were so pleased with our experience, that when we eventually purchased a vacation home, we hired TG to manage it. We have now worked with them for over eight years and it has simply been a delight. A testament to owner Jim's management, is the tenure of his team. We've been interfacing with many of the same folks for years: Beth, Amber, Luke, Jesi, Alfonso, Sarah, Cynthia, Brian, Scott, Stephen - they've all been professional, responsive and wonderful to work with. This was the worst experience ever. From the staff at Tahoe Getaways to the pictures of the property located at 8726 Brockway Vista, Kings Beach. The staff is nice UNTIL they snag you for $ 16,000.00 plus for an old run down house that when you entered was dirty beyond belief. They do not visit the homes to make sure that they are in presentable condition and that the things in the houses are working properly. Our refrigerator was very dirty, and it froze all of our fresh food. The rest of the house was dirty beyond the normal "dirty". All these people want is "money". They do not care about how the property is working. All of the TV's were not working when we first arrived. They wasted our time making us try to fix them. I don't care if the house was $ 1,000.00 for the week, it was totally unacceptable. When we left, we were offered our money back for the cleaning and that was all. When I asked where it was, I was told that since I was going to do a review, they were worried that it could be bad publicity so therefore they were not going to give it back to us. They, Tahoe Getaways, and the homeowner, should be ashamed of themselves for putting this up for rent and for the way it was when we moved in. The pictures on their website show a different image. I was staying on the first floor of a two story + loft unit and, a few hours into my stay, I saw a mouse running out of the bedroom in which I was supposed to be sleeping and then saw it run into a closet. A second mouse then jumped out of my unzipped suitcase, at which point I did not feel comfortable staying on that floor of the home anymore. We called both Tahoe Getaways and Airbnb right after these incidents for assistance. By the time that either place got back to us, it was already late on Friday evening, so it was difficult and inconvenient to find another place to stay. Those of us meant to stay on the first floor in bedrooms had to find alternative sleeping arrangements. We also all had trouble sleeping knowing there were mice around. I was disappointed that Tahoe Getaways did not seem to believe our complaint and required us to provide pictures of the mice. We did not want to get close enough to these mice again to take pictures. We actually did end up seeing more mice again the next day and got pictures and videos then. Overall, the experience working with Tahoe Getaways and Airbnb was unpleasant to say the least. They seemed to bounce us back and forth between each other without providing any real solution. Tahoe Getaways did send pest control out on Saturday morning, which we appreciated, but when we saw mice again on Saturday night and reached out to the management company about the continuation of mice, they pushed back . We also found a pest control card from two weeks prior, indicating this was a known issue. We seem to have gotten some money back for the place (through Airbnb), which is also appreciated, but it is unfortunately way too little too late. I understand that mice can be a problem in Tahoe, but that doesn't mean customers don't deserve respect, immediate responses to these types of issues, and pest free properties. read more

Upon arrival, the house was dirty. There were cobwebs in the windows, used hair rollers with hair still attached in the bathroom vanities, the linens were soiled, stained, and ripped. There was "poop" on bedroom floor. We called and complained at once. Someone came over and wiped down the barbeque superficially. Cobwebs everywhere Master bedroom pillow stained and filthy. Used rollers with hair in master bathroom vanity, gross! Master bedroom linens, ripped and stained. Master bedroom blankets in the drawer as pictured. Clean?? Is this "poop" on the floor? Then we tried to move in. The first problem was the master bed. It is a Sleep Number bed with two twin air mattresses. It would not inflate. I located the RF sensors, but one was missing a battery and no remotes to control them were located anywhere in the house. I could not inflate the bed. I tried to download a mobile app to control it, but the bed was a 2013 model and the app was not available. They sent someone over, but he said he could not fix it. I slept on the couch. Next, I tried to watch a movie. The TV was connected to cable, but no internet. When inspected, the main HDMI cable from the receiver to the television was detached, so there was no way to use the audio-video system or even watch a Blu-ray player. There was no internet connection or any device to allow for any sort of streaming service. The amplifier had been cranked to maximum volume and left on, so cabinet was dangerously hot. According to the repair man, the internet went down with the previous renters, and they obviously went behind the cabinet and started pulling things to try and make it work. There is cable to access local stations but no internet manager. Again, the repairman said "why don't you use the Apple TV box" but there was none. Maybe the last renters took it. Without internet access there was no way to access any online networks even using my own accounts. In this day and age at $1000 per night, the TV should have been a smart TV. I should not have to travel with my own apple box or Roku box. So I slept on the couch reading my book. The only problem was that it was 90 degrees in the house and only one window in the entire house that had screens. There were several other lesser issues such as no broom or cleaning supplies to wipe down kitchen counters (we found large push broom in garage and used it), Water disconnected to the toilet in second bathroom (we reconnected), the sink was plugged, we fixed that also. Broken metal dish left lying on deck. They did come and remove it and maybe at one point it was used with TV? Loose chlorine tablets on the deck (brought to me by the two-year-old). 50 % of the blinds on the windows were nonfunctional. All in all, I do not feel this was a high-end premium rental as advertised. It was one of the most expensive homes on the site at $1000.00 per night. It did not deliver that product. Ski lease 2020-21 season. To be clear, they chose not to rent to me again, which I found pretty funny given the series of debacles. But from the day we met the rep to show us into the house to take inventory (after we had paid 5 months rent), we knew we were in for a ride - attitude and rude. There are some good, helpful folks - especially the maintenance staff and a few team members who actually tried to help when we went without heat for 4 days and had to leave due to a propane tank leak (they brought heaters). And when the antiquated fireplace billowed smoke - twice - into the house requiring the fire dept (brick had crumbled from the top into the flue, according the repairmen, but we were told it was user error). When calling for assistance on propane, energy or internet items (given account crossover complexity), 50% of the interactions were met with disdain and attitude. The funny part is we actually, honestly thought we were being totally reasonable and patient - at times frustrated with the lack of response and kindness - but the problems with the house were significant and impacted our ability to use the house. I will say the owner - who were never met - did approve some adjustments $ wise, but Tahoe Getaways as a management company was pretty poor. read more

Tahoe Getaways will not support any renter contract claims! Tahoe Getaways has a useful website, a lot of inventory, instructions for the house were clear, and they were prompt with service responses. However, for our winter rental, we had a washing machine not work the entire time, despite many calls with them explaining the situation. We also warned Tahoe Getaways about snow piled on the roof in particular against the chimney. They visited the house but said they couldn't do anything because it's a metal roof. Fast forward a couple months, the chimney started leaning because of the snow/ice weight pushing it, water is dripping constantly from ceiling, etc. In the end the owner took half of our security deposit despite no contractual obligation on our part to clear the roof of snow. We alerted Tahoe Getaways about the roof snow 2 months before the chimney had damage. I imagine Tahoe Getaways didn't tell the owner about our warnings, their site visit and doing nothing. Tahoe Getaways only cares about keeping the owner happy. read more

I had a terrible experience and will NEVER use them again. We are in a state wide shelter in place order, making it illegal for us to travel. Went to cancel booking over 2 months in advance and they insisted on me either paying the full amount due (another 5K) in order to re-book another week- without any guarantee bc of COVID that we could actually use it- or lose my $1200 deposit. We are repeat guests/customers of tahoe getaways and I was shocked by how poorly their 'customer service' treated me. We went through a similar experience with their direct competition, Tahoe Luxury Properties, who were quite gracious when we cancelled and refunded our deposit. It's a shame that TG is willing to lose a long term customer over a short term $1200 gain. Good luck. read more

I used this management company to secure a two week, high end luxury rental for my family of four this August. I made the reservation in February, 6 months in advance. Right before check in time, I received a call letting me know there were some problems with the rental. I was told there was a shattered window (no problem), and that I would not have use of the gourmet kitchen's two ovens. Huge problem. The entire reason I'm willing to pay a premium for a luxury rental with two large ovens is because I was staying for two weeks and I have a child with a gluten allergy. I cook almost all of our meals, and I prepare ahead of time and bring up most of our food. I was told that they placed a toaster oven on the counter to replace both ovens. (What???!) A toaster oven cannot cook a pork loin, a roast , let alone a roast and baked veggies or baked potatoes or any other side dish I brought up! I called a few days into my stay letting them know that I gave it my best, but they needed to get someone in here to fix this oven as I was going to be here for two weeks. I was told by the manager that the oven had been broken for some time and it needed to be entirely replaced and was on order. There was nothing they could do. Why wasn't I told prior to my stay? I rented the property six months in advance. I absolutely would have cancelled and easily secured another rental within that time frame , but they didn't want to lose my $11k so they just decided not to tell me. Fairly certain that this crosses the boundary of "shady" into something else . When I spoke to management again they seemed very sympathetic and understanding and said to just continue your stay or leave, but after you get home you can reach out to get a partial refund. I did. They offered me $400. $400 off $11k.... I trashed easily $400 in food that I had brought up and spent another $800+ going out to eat. In addition to the window being broken and ovens not working, the place had many, many areas of old dog urine that had been allowed to sit and never cleaned up. The office and the upstairs were the worst, as they smelled terrible and you could see the dark areas where the dog had used the bathroom. It was gross, and a simple carpet cleaning could've taken care of it. Still, not very "luxury" as advertised. I would never suggest securing a rental through this management company. read more

Wonderful time at Kings Beach in North Lake Tahoe. The property was excellent, well maintained, thoroughly stocked up, with many modern amenities. Very clean. We were there in mid September during the unfortunate fires south of South Lake Tahoe but were minimally affected by smoke. Between seasons we felt we had the lake to ourselves. The staff at tahoe getaways reached out to us in case we needed anything but we didn't have an occasion to contact them. I would definitely book this property with Tahoe Getaways again. read more

We have just stayed at a Tahoe Getaway rental for a fifth time (over the course of four years). As always, our visit was perfect. The cabin was immaculate (it always is!). It is well equipped, lovingly decorated and impeccably clean. Whenever there is an issue (cloudy hot tub, general questions...), we've always been able to reach someone quickly and any issues were resolved right away. We're so glad to have found this company. Their service charge seems also well below competitors. We'll definitely stick with them and are looking forward to many more visits! read more

I booked with Tahoe Getaways for a bachelorette party 3/16-3/18, at a beautiful home in Carnelian Bay. Due to the storm, I-80 was shut down Friday and Saturday, making the drive to Carnelian Bay from Sunnyvale impossible. I needed to cancel the reservation since we would be unable to make it to the cabin. The customer service understood the snow conditions were not safe for one of our passengers, but refused to give us a refund - citing a section in the contract stating that storms are not reason enough to cancel. Personally I think this clause is ridiculous as I cannot predict the weather, and there should be some flexibility shown when the conditions are outside of the guests/hosts control. The customer service rep suggested that we change the reservation from 3/16-3/18, to 3/17 - 3/19. This was just not possible for the group, which consisted of a chemo patient with an appointment Monday at Stanford, out of state visitors who needed to go back home, and those of us who did not ask for that day of work. The customer service rep just reiterated that they could not do anything for us and refused the refund. Thankfully airbnb refunded us, but this experience was so negative I would not book with Tahoe Getaways again. read more

I suggest you avoid Tahoe Getaways and rent from Tahoe Luxury Properties. Why? We had a problem with their property in Squaw Valley which unbeknown to us was next to the access road. Would have been nice for them to disclose this! The road noise and car lights shining into the bedrooms made sleeping next to impossible. In addition, the refrigerator was filthy and we had a grease fire with the bbq. There was no way they could remedy the noise and light situation so we made the tough decision to leave which effectively ruined our vacation. I spoke to them about a refund/adjustment and received the runaround and then zilch. And, we have rented from them in the past and have never caused any problems. There is an emerging theme from these reviews. You can have a great experience but if something goes haywire, Tahoe Getaways will hide behind contracts and not do the right thing. I was searching for a house on Airbnb for our annual Tahoe ski trip and randomly came across Tahoe Getaways listing and website. Their website is so much better and user-friendly compared to Airbnb. I decided to directly booked with Tahoe Getaways, which I am able to waive the so call platforms fee on Airbnb and save a few hundred dollars. Our group of friends is very happy with the house, it's a lakefront property that has a hot tub overlooking the gorgeous Tahoe. 8 of us are comfortable to stay in 5 bedrooms w/ 4 bathrooms. I had a couple of questions about the parking situation and the check-in process before the arrival. I called the office a number of times, they're very responsive and professional. Inside the house, there are clear instructions on all the home appliances/WiFi/Hot tub/etc. Tahoe Getaways even has an App if you rent a house from them. We've used Airbnb many times and Tahoe Getaways definitely does a way better job on check-in/instruction/listing/etc. On the day we checked out, they even accommodated us for a late check out because of no one's check in on the same date. In the future, I will definitely use this site again for our Tahoe trip. read more

Poor customer service. Was in contract to book a home with them and right off the batt I was met with hostility towards myself and my family. Being that it was my birthday 2 days prior to my trip, I was interrogated by the staff who were insisting my plans were to host a party. Maybe it's just me, but last time I checked families who are 60-80yrs old don't party. In addition, the staff requested documentation for my service animals - something that is strictly prohibited by ADA law. We ended up canceling the reservation in fear of the rest of the customer service being subpar during our actual planned stay. Message to staff: saying "I hope not to put you off" will do just that - put someone off. When dealing with high net worth individuals who are paying $600-1000+ per night for a rental, the customer service needs to not only suite the owner of the home, but the guests you intend to have visit. read more

Just got our Christmas rental cancelled due to COVID. Done via email, I haven't been able to contact a human despite trying for 4 days. Unlike other operators in Tahoe, Tahoe Getaways has decided to protect themselves and their homeowners, on the financial backs of the renters. We were offered no refund, just the option to re-rent the same house for the same number of days for the same or less cost (they pocket the difference, not us). I'm willing to share some of the burden of an awful situation, but this is way too much to ask. Will never use them again. read more

I was disappointed in the home I rented from Tahoe Getaways. I don't feel like I got what I paid for. We had 1 wash cloth for 3 bedrooms, no broom and the hot tub was powered off when we got there. We had to flip the circuit breaker 2 or 3 times to get the hot tub to heat up. It did not smell like it had been cleaned. So, by the 2nd night of our 3 day stay the hot tub was warm, but did not smell clean. They did bring wash cloths the 2nd day and a broom late afternoon. We also kept getting texts as to if we wanted to check early or check out late we could pay a fee. When the called to ask about my stay they said the hot tub was useable. They offered to compensate my dissatisfaction with a discount on next stay with them. They are always on the defense. We will not stay with them again. read more

As well as phoning twice today I received this response from another agent: Hi Jennifer, That's great news. You can either call us to book, or if you prefer you can book online at: West Court, http://www.tahoegetaways.com/Property/Vacation-Rental/194-WestCourt.aspx However, to clarify, the WEEKLY rate there would be $1630 plus tax and cleaning for a total of $2062 IF you needed something more affordable, we could also offer: Four Summits, http://www.tahoegetaways.com/Property/Vacation-Rental/162-FourSummits.aspx Affordable remodeled North Shore home features a hot tub and pool table, and allows well behaved dogs. Finally I heard from my original agent as follows: Hi Jennifer, I apologize, made an error and misread your dates and quoted you for a 3 night stay instead of a week long stay. Just returned from a fabulous family vacay at 365 Fairway Dr.(Fairway Favorite) through Tahoe Getaways. The house was imaculate and appointed with luxury amenities! The dishes, glassware, pans, serving dishes, etc. were nicer than what I have at home! No garage sale leftovers here. It truly feels like a home! Plenty of space for hanging around, playing cards, enjoying meals, watching movies. We had our 4 adult children with us. It was great to have a bathroom for each bedroom. The location was awesome for our summer visit. We walked to everything...lunch, fireworks, kayaking, bike rental. The only time we used the car was to pick up at the Reno airport. Loved the washer and dryer. Loved that the closets were stocked with beach towels, folding chairs, a raft, and they even had 2 bikes for our use. We cooked dinners on the bbq and enjoyed family time around the table. Such a fun place to have our family gather. We loved the house but also golfed, kayaked, biked and rented a boat for an afternoon. Caveat: take bug bands and bug spray to Tahoe. read more

Have been vacationing in Tahoe for the past 7 yrs., and, used this service provider several times without any problems. I was planning the next vacation for 2014, and, contacted them to book my reservation. Now, you would think they maintain some sort of records for future reference?? My past history indicates I come up on a Monday with my 2 girls, and, spend a week in the rental. I have explained this to them in the past and it was fine. Recently, I received a response that I will need to come on Sunday to Sunday as per the supervisor. As a manager myself, you tend to provide excellent customer service to good customers especially with the amount of dollars that is spent. In conclusion, they no longer need our business! NOT HONEST COMPANY AND RUDE SATFF . I had a house booked to clients of mine (10 people with seniors and children) and 1 day prior check in day, California went into lockdown due to COVID-19. Tahoe getaways send me an email at 7PM (Eastern time), less than 24 houra of the clients check in. Clients were coming from out of the country and were in a flight already without knowing anything. We also, as a wholesaler, didn't imagine that Tahoe Getaways would not honor the reservation for a private vacation home, considering all the ski resort and moutains remained open and another resorts were able to check in other clients of mine on the same arrival day. And considering that even though my clients were arriving from a trip aborad, they are California residents and would follow the estate restrictions. After TAHOE GETAWAYS gave me a lot of offensive excuses, they said that they WERE NOT going to honor the reservation and they WERE NOT going to refund the total amount paid to the reservation. They said that the policies were clear, in case of late cancelation, they would be refunding only a % of the total amount paid. Understand that at this point, my clients were at the front door of the house, snowing, kids and old people with them just waiting on instructions of what to do. They didnt have extra money to affort another hotel (which was around 8000USD, the least expensive for the time) and they planned that trip for months aehad. Of course we all underrstand the COVID situatuon and all we aksed was to have the full amount paid refunded, as ithe reservations was NOT cancelled because of the clients and this case TAHOE GETAWAYS didn't honor it. The policies were clear in case the clients cancelled, not the company. I am EXTREMELY disappointed because it is all great when all goes well, but at the first difficult situation, they literally ignored us as clients and also as human beings. After hours out in the cold, my clients had to go back home, spending money for an extra flight ticket for 10 people. Because my company is extrely correct and fair with all our dear clients, I refunded the total amount paid to my clients, even if our policies are also very strict for cancelation. But we all understand the times that we are going through. They NEVER admited that they should refund, they NEVER gave me a chance. So, as of today, i had a huge money loss, honoring my clients and diffcilt situations as i also had the same treatment from several other providers. TAHOE GETAWAYS were the ONLY company that didnt work with the clients, didnt honor the reservation and didnt refund the total amount, just a porcentage. So, i feel that they stole that money from me.They didnt use the house fot my clients, they even saved the money for the cleaning, etc... NOT AN HONEST COMPANY, NEVER WILL BUY AGAIN OR ANY OF MY OTHER SISTER COMPANIES that usually buy from them very often. I also want make it clear how UNHELPFUL these peope are, they were really nasty and rude treating me in my desparation not having where to put my clients and needing desperately the money to refund the clients as they were supposed to have their dream vacation. I contacted Tahoe Getaways about a specific area I had in mind for my 36th birthday with my family. I outlined my budget and Beth & Cynthia got me a great deal on a place in the exact location I wanted! Nice to know there are still nice hardworking people out there. My family has a beach rental in Santa Cruz county and have struggled to find great rental agencies! I will certainly use these guys again! read more
