Eh, this is certainly not my first tapas experience, and I've enjoyed some really great tapas in venues ranging from small bars to nice restaurants both in the US and abroad. This is not one of them. First, the good the vibe, the service, and the staff was excellent. The food was the biggest disappointment. The lamb had no taste and was not seasoned very well, the shrimp had no garlic taste, and was not seasoned very well, the potatoes were decent, but the oil needs to be changed more frequent. Bella had the chicken empanadas and loved them. I had a piece I had a bone in it. I told the manager about it and handed it to her. Her comment that it was strange because they broil their own chicken and it's boneless was strange to me.. Bella loved the empanada I did not. Overall, I just don't think the food was very good

    Individual charcuterie board
    Sambo N.

I feel like it's my job to call out beautiful things when I see them. I went during happy hour and got the "Individual Charcuterie Board" and omg what a thing of beauty. I have to laugh that they think this is meant for one person, as it is really suitable for 2-3. They have a good selection on their happy hour menu. I would highly recommend this place. I've enjoyed several things on their menu and everything has been delicious. This place is great if you're someone like me who experiments with low-carb diets. It's a cool vibe. Hispanic music plays in the background, it's not overly loud, just right. And the lighting is just right. Tons of wine options and local craft beer. This is a cool date night spot.

Restaurant Review: T'ahpas 529 - A Spanish Tapas Gem in Melrose 529 Franklin St, Melrose, MA 02176 T'ahpas 529 is bringing authentic Spanish flavors to the North Shore, serving up classic tapas, rich paellas, and indulgent desserts in a cozy, brick-lined atmosphere. Whether you're a seasoned tapas lover or a newcomer to Spanish cuisine, this spot has plenty to offer. Just make sure you come hungry! Charcuterie Board (8/10) A well-balanced assortment of cured meats and cheeses from New England's finest artisans, complemented by fig jam, olives, and spiced pecans. This board is perfect for sharing, offering a mix of savory, creamy, and nutty flavors in every bite. Dátiles (8/10) Bacon-wrapped medjool dates stuffed with marcona almonds and drizzled with a blue cheese aioli--a bold and unexpected flavor combination that works surprisingly well. Think of bacon-wrapped scallops but with a rich, sweet twist from the dates. Pan de Casa (9/10)Their warm rosemary focaccia is a simple but absolute must-order. Lightly crisp on the outside, soft on the inside, and topped with sea salt flakes and olive oil, it's the perfect bread to pair with all the other rich, saucy dishes. Gambas al Ajillo (8/10)These sautéed shrimp come swimming in a garlicky olive oil infused with dried guindilla peppers. They're tender, juicy, and perfectly cooked, with just a hint of heat that doesn't overpower the natural sweetness of the shrimp. Queso de Cabra (9/10)If you love goat cheese, this dish is for you! A panko-crusted, golden-fried ball of creamy goat cheese is paired with Pedro Ximénez honey, giving it a perfect balance of crunchy, creamy, tangy, and sweet flavors. One of the best bites of the night! Chicken Empanadas (8/10) Two crispy turnovers filled with seasoned chicken and served with a smoky chipotle aioli. While the filling was a bit dry, the aioli saved the dish by adding a much-needed creamy kick. Still fresh, flavorful, and worth a try. Croquetas de Jamón (8/10) Crispy bolitos of serrano ham served with a tangy, slightly spicy brava sauce. Simple, but an easy must-get--you really can't go wrong with. Frutti De Mare (8/10)This squid ink pasta dish with mussels, clams, shrimp, and calamari was the biggest surprise of the night! Squid ink can sometimes be overpowering, but this one had a perfectly balanced, subtly briny flavor that let the seafood shine. If you've been hesitant to try squid ink pasta, this is a great introduction! Paella Alicante (10/10) - The Star of the Night! If you order only one thing, make it the paella. This seafood-packed dish is filled with shrimp, calamari, clams, and mussels, all simmered in a deeply flavorful, saffron-infused rice. I don't know where else on the North Shore you can get paella this authentic and delicious--do not leave without trying this! Churrasquito (5/10)Unfortunately, this grilled minute steak with chimichurri was way too salty--a total salt bomb that overpowered the steak's natural flavors. The meat itself was decently cooked, but the excessive salt made it difficult to enjoy. I really wanted to love this one, but I'd skip it next time. Desserts: Churros (8/10)These crispy, golden-brown churros are dusted with cinnamon sugar and served with a warm hazelnut fudge sauce. They're light, not too oily, and perfectly crunchy on the outside with a soft center--a solid dessert choice for anyone with a sweet tooth. Pecan Tart (8/10) This house-made pecan tart topped with vanilla ice cream is like pecan pie in mini format, but even more buttery and indulgent. The crust was flaky, the filling rich and nutty, and the cold ice cream balanced out the sweetness beautifully. Final Thoughts: Food: 9/10 - Delicious, well-executed Spanish flavors, with the paella, queso de cabra, and squid ink pasta as must-tries. Ambiance: 7/10 - Cozy, brick-walled setting, perfect for date nights or intimate group dinners. Affordability: 7/10 - A little on the pricier side, but the quality and portion sizes justify the cost. T'ahpas 529 is a top-tier tapas spot in the North Shore, serving some of the best paella around. If you're a fan of Spanish food--or just great food in general--this place is absolutely worth a visit!

This is such a cute tapas place in Melrose. Perfect for a casual night or a date night. They have a pretty impressive bar and wine list. This was my second time at T'ahpas. Their menu is exactly what you would find in Barcelona. This time I was dining alone on a Wednesday night so I took a seat at the bar. I got the patatas bravas (classic), sirloin steak, and a queso board. The potato's were hot and crispy. The steak was amazing, smothered in garlic, perfect touch of cream. The cheese board was bigger than expected but hey I'm not complaining. The staff is also super nice. Definitely will be back!

Churro (there were 5 but we swooped in before we remembered to take a pic! :)

Great tapas place in Melrose MA, just off the Melrose Highlands commuter rail stop. We enjoyed dipping the focaccia bread into the spicy oil from the gambas. We also got the goat cheese balls in honey, crispy cauliflower and seafood paella. Everything came out quickly (except of course the paella which takes time to cook- so we asked to put that order in first while we perused the rest of the menu). Churros were great too. Our server Kiara was very accommodating, and the guitarist Rafael was terrific! All in all a very pleasant meal.

This place is top notch! Outstanding flavors and fantastic service. We ordered a bunch of dishes and enjoyed some drink specials during the week. Highly recommend and will definitely be coming back!

A really cute tapas spot in Melrose! I used to love coming here however, I feel like it's gone downhill sadly. I feel like prices have gone way up for okay-ish quality of tapas. Still better priced than some of the spots in Boston. I feel like the flavors of the tapas here start to blend similarly, however I wish they stuck with serving more traditional Spanish tapas. We had their pasta daily special and their Thai ribs - both just okay. We love the corn and patatas bravas!

    Chicken Empanada
    Roger C.

I was excited to try this tapas place from the Yelp reviews but ended up disappointed with the food quality at this place. The chicken empanadas were crispy on the outside (which I love!) but the shredded chicken tasted a bit off. I can't describe it exactly but it reminded me of chicken that had been cooked for a while and then refried in not so fresh oil. Neither of us could eat it. The Brussels sprouts and Spanish tortilla were ok. Nothing to write home about. The staff was very nice and friendly. I may consider returning another day to see if my experience was just a fluke

Old Fashion (with a nice rose ice cube!) + Passionfruit mojito (? -yummy but forgettable)
    Francisca W.

Made an online reservations for weekend lunch; was surprised that it was quite empty upon arrival. Usually an indoor diner but preferred outside in the after-effects of a pandemic; appreciate that it was available (reason we chose this place to begin with). Entered restaurant in the front and was told to loop around the block to the parking space-turned patio. Odd but ok. Interior decor is very nice; makes you feel like you're in a tapas-eating country. Only small inconvenience is that one has to loop around the block again from the outdoor area to the front of restaurant in order to use the restroom. Food: - the whiskey in Old Fashion is very smooth, my friend highly recommended it and it didn't disappoint. - Patata Bravas was ON POINT -- soooo good! - Burrata was not quite oozy as expected, but the plate was great overall with the flavor combo. - the waffle in the Chicken & Waffle a bit too soggy, but appreciate the savory flavors. - Churrasquisto would be the biggest letdown in the meal by comparison -- it was simply too well-done for quality beef, even at medium. Maybe it's a cultural difference in cuisines, but please don't do beef medium and up. If this beef really is Wagyu, then all I can say is that I'm sorry the cow sacrificed its life to become this. *sad face* Despite the hiccups, it was a fantastic meal overall. Service: - attentive and adequate - wait staff friendly and courteous - looks like they want to be there so it's a great plus. Price tag: - $130 for two people's brunch, but take away the 4 drinks (LOL) it'll bring you to $60-70 tab, which is a fair price range Would definitely be back if I'm in the area again.

    HUGE mussels

Came here last night for a nice romantic date night. We have been here a few times over the years and it is never a disappointment. We had many dishes and all were flavorful, unique, and tasty. The tomato bread was simple and light and fresh. The chorizo-stuffed mushrooms had the perfect kick. The charred cauliflower was almost too mild in taste but it was complex and the chili built subtly. The braised short ribs were our faves as it was so tender and the sauce was umami bomb. The burrata salad was good but wished it had more dressing. The mussels were the biggest I had ever seen and easily could have made a meal of just those lol. Unfortunately, the octopus was a huge miss. So overwhelming with its seasoning that we had one bit and that is all. And it was slightly overcooked. I had the naked and famous cocktail which was perfectly balanced, I do not like sweet or even slightly too sweet drinks and this was perfect. Be warned they have built-in 20% gratuity, which hubby and I don't mind but I just want people to know.

I've ordered take out from here before, but my first dine in experience was much better. I came on a Friday night and it was fairly packed. Fortunately, we had a reservation (highly recommend getting a reservation!). This place abides by the COVID-19 safety precautions so I felt safe eating here. All the tables were either separated by plexiglass dividers or at least 6 feet apart. My waitstaff were very attentive. We never had empty plates piling up at the table or ran out of water. Food was reasonably priced so we were able to try a good number of dishes. Here are my food reviews, ranked from most favorite to least favorite: Almejas ($13) Generous portion of clams cooked in delicious tomato sauce and pieces of smoked bacon. The smoked bacon was a welcoming addition. My only wish is that this dish came with bread to soak up all that tasty sauce! Churrasquito ($13) Perfectly cooked skirt steak so tender that it cuts like butter. The chimichurri sauce was flavorful and tangy so it paired well with the steak. Patatas Bravas ($8) Crispy on the outside, soft and fluffy on the inside. The bravas sauce gave the potatoes just the right amount of heat so it's not too spicy. Hongos Rellenos ($7) Mushrooms stuffed with chorizo, cheese, and breadcrumbs. They tasted a lot better than they looked. Very flavorful and the brie cheese made them creamy and decadent. Pez Espada ($15) Pan seared halibut with a mixed vegetables in a sherry wine sauce. If you like strong sherry wine sauce, you would like this. It was personally too alcoholic for my taste, but my friend liked it. Fish was cooked well though so I ate the part of the fish that didn't touch the sauce. Homemade Bread Knots ($4.95) We got this originally to dip into the tomato sauce from the clams dish. They were all right - fairly average and only came with two rolls so I wouldn't recommend it.

How is this braised short ribs with polenta?

Come Mother's Day and I am not a fan of going out on the actual day, but I did remember this place. We made a Saturday reservation, picked up my son from work, and headed over here. SO WORTH IT! I thought the spot was adorable and clearly well loved by locals and their own staff. You really get the feeling that all that work there really love the place. I like the menu items are not the "usual suspects" I see at most Tapas places, which are good but sometimes you want to shake things up. We got: Bolas de queso Patatas Aioli Croquetas De Jamon Croquetas De Verduras Solomillo De Ternera y Queso Cabrales Calamares Fritos Tabla de Quesos Pisto Manchego Albondigas De Cordero Iberico Peras Borrachas Torta De Chocolate All the menu items were flavorful and enjoyable. I think my favorite was the Croquetas De Jamon, if I had to choose just one item. We also decided to get two desserts - a pear dessert which seems to be their signature dish and the chocolate tort. While the pear was lovely, I was really in the mood for something chocolate so I enjoyed it more (but honestly cannot go wrong with either).

I enjoyed my staples for the night: Jamón Iberico, garlic Chicken; pollo al ajillo (a must), and a red sangria. The jamón is freshly cut to order with a nice drizzle of pure olive oil over top. The sangria is so refreshing with fresh fruit tasting like they just picked it themselves. The lovely bartender, Astrit, informed me the grapes are Grenache from Spain , which have a dryer, robust flavor compared to the sweeter red sangrias that make you regret your decisions the next morning and tastes better in my opinion. I'm usually more of a beer guy but this slaps! I've also had the white before and that also hits the Richter scale. Last but surely not least, the garlic chicken (pollo al Ajillo) is the best chicken I've ever had, hand to God. Spiced with everything nice and delicious oil and garlic that you deserve. Even on a first date, you'll be kissed after giving this to your significant other. This fine establishment is one of my favorites and I always am satisfied, leaving with a full belly. This isn't horrible for a tapas spot, but the taste of the entrees were just not worth it. That, and the amount of alcohol you get in most of the cocktails. So much ice and like 2 sips of drink. There's 1 drink with aperol and champagne that is big and you get the remainder of the small champagne as a side car though. We had 2 of the paellas and they were on the smaller side for paella. The flavor was meh and nothing really stood out. I had the steak frites and it was such a small portion of steak. Maybe 4 oz? And the char flavor was so overpowering. The chimichurri I was looking forward to was extremely mild in flavor. The fries were cooked nicely though. Our server was friendly but forgetful. She kept forgetting parts of our order and whether she had already done something or not. Was a bit odd. Overall, I won't be making an effort to come back here.

We walked into a warm, energetic space with dim lighting, an open dining room, and a constant buzz that makes it a great choice for a night out with friends or a date. The restaurant has a vibrant, social energy that encourages sharing and exploration, and the open layout adds to the sense of activity without feeling chaotic. Rather than ordering individual entrées, the experience is centered around sharing a variety of dishes, making each visit feel a little different depending on what you choose. The tapas are the highlight of the menu, with plenty of options that encourage trying a little bit of everything. The bacon-wrapped dates are one of the signature dishes, balancing sweet and savory flavors, while the patatas bravas, croquettes, and charcuterie boards are reliable choices to start the meal. If you are looking for something more substantial, the seafood paella and squid ink pasta stand out as excellent main dishes, offering rich flavors and generous portions that are easy to split between two or more people. The olive oil cake is also worth saving room for if you want to end the meal with dessert, and the overall progression of the meal works well with the tapas format. The drink menu is just as impressive as the food. Wine is the main focus, with an extensive list featuring Spanish and international selections, but the sangria and cocktails are equally popular. It is the kind of place where you can easily spend a couple of hours sharing plates while working your way through a few different drinks, and the beverage program is thoughtfully curated to match the style of the food. Service is one of the restaurant's strongest points. The staff are knowledgeable about both the menu and wine list, and dishes arrive steadily throughout the meal instead of all at once, creating a relaxed dining pace. The pacing allowed us to enjoy each dish without feeling rushed, and the team checked in at the right moments without hovering. The restaurant is consistently busy, especially on weekends, so reservations are highly recommended. Even with a reservation, there can occasionally be a short wait, and the lively atmosphere means the dining room can get quite loud during peak hours. The energy of the room is part of what makes the experience work, but it is worth keeping in mind if you are looking for a quieter dinner. Barcelona Wine Bar is one of the best places in Boston for Spanish-inspired tapas and wine. The combination of flavorful shareable dishes, a well-curated drink menu, attentive service, and vibrant atmosphere makes it an easy choice for group dinners, celebrations, or date nights. It offers a meal that feels both communal and polished, with a setting that encourages slowing down and enjoying the evening. Just be prepared for the energetic environment and plan ahead if you are visiting during the busiest times.

We visited Boqueria Boston on Father's Day and arrived to find the restaurant nearly empty. Despite that, the experience started poorly when the host refused to accommodate a simple request to sit near a TV so we could watch the FIFA match. After being seated, it took roughly 20 minutes just to be acknowledged. We ordered two bottled beers, a bottle of still water, and tap water. The tap water arrived within minutes, but the beers and bottled water took another 10+ minutes. The beers were served without glasses, and the bottled water was simply dropped on the table without being served. When ordering, we were informed that at least five menu items were unavailable, including the seafood paella we had specifically come to try. The explanation was that they were out of clams and mussels. After insisting they check with the kitchen, we were told they could prepare it without the clams, so we agreed. The pacing of the meal was baffling. Pimientos de Padrón arrived after about 15 minutes, but then another 20-25 minutes passed before the cheese board and salad appeared. The quality was disappointing throughout. The goat cheese tasted like a bulk food-service product, and the pan con tomate was overwhelmed by raw garlic. The gambas took roughly 45 minutes to arrive and came with only three tiny pieces of bread. We immediately ordered additional grilled bread and waited another 20 minutes for that. Throughout the meal, every inquiry about the delays was met with excuses, despite the restaurant being mostly empty and fully staffed. After waiting more than an hour for the paella, I finally requested the check. Miraculously, the paella appeared moments later. Unfortunately, it wasn't worth the wait. It was bland, lacked any depth of flavor, and was among the most forgettable paellas I've ever had. To make matters worse, no fresh plates or utensils were provided for the main course. Service remained consistently poor. Water glasses were never refilled. Different servers randomly dropped off dishes, yet nobody seemed interested in clearing empty plates. We eventually started stacking dirty dishes on a neighboring table ourselves before someone finally removed them. Our primary server informed us she was going on break and essentially disappeared for the remainder of the meal, only reappearing when it was time to present the check. The only employee who showed any accountability was an older gentleman who eventually stepped in, acknowledged the problems, and provided a 50% discount after realizing part of our order had never been rung in. While appreciated, the gesture came far too late to salvage the experience. Beyond the service issues, the operational details were concerning. The open kitchen made it easy to observe staff working without hairnets or hats, and employees were constantly entering and exiting the same restrooms used by guests, often carrying backpacks and personal belongings through the dining room. What makes this especially disappointing is that I've had much better experiences at Boqueria locations in New York. However, this visit reinforced what feels like a steady decline in the brand. The restaurant itself is beautiful. The concept is strong. The location is excellent. Unfortunately, the management and training appear to be severely lacking. With so many outstanding dining options in Boston's Seaport, I cannot recommend this location. Do yourself a favor and go elsewhere.

We ordered the following: - fish tacos (3) - flavor wise this fell flat for me. No punch of seasoning to the fish personally. - Birria tacos combo - fire combo. I just love birria style tacos. Highlight for me hot and well cooked beef, tender. - Birria chimichanga (2) this is hefty, i thought this was a good chimichanga, i would probably ask for extra sauce next go around, it got a bit dry without it. - carne asada enchiladas, the lady enjoyed this, carne was moist and tender. - pork belly & yuca loved the pork belly originally thought it was more like a chicharron dish but enjoyed this style , the yuca wasn't my jam. - tajin elote (2) love tajin elotes so no complaints! - churro espresso Great spot, great service.

This is what we ordered when we visited: - fish tacos (3) - Birria tacos combo - Birria chimichanga (2) - carne asada enchiladas - pork belly & yuca - tajin elote (2) - churro espresso martini Everything was very good! I would probably skip on the fish tacos next time just because it wasn't really my thing but everything else was tasty. The Birria tacos and Birria chimichanga were out of this world... my favorites out of everything we ordered. Very flavorful and generous portion sizes. Honestly we ordered way more than we could eat lol but they made for the best leftovers the next day. We were able to walk-in without reservations for a table of 3 & service is very quick and efficient!! Food came quick and pipin' hot! Would definitely come back again & I highly recommend. The decor is industrial with the stone, metal and wood, earth tones, very modern and yet feels cozy and warm with the combination of the colors, lighting and art. Great atmosphere for an elegant and elevated experience. We had the side room space which is really great for having a small to medium sized gathering of easily up to 50 people or so. There's ample seating at round tables and also a couple high tables to stand at. A long bar where all the food is served buffet style. There are restrooms just down the hall too so very convenient. There's cool wall art murals which make for a great backdrop and very artsy!! The food was really good too - charcuterie meats, cheese, fruit, meatballs, olives, eggplant caponata, hummus and crackers. The staff were friendly and were there to help with any questions and were happy to take our photos too. Overall a great time was had by all!

Noise. A lot of noise…read more From around 7:30 p.m., the music gets much louder. After that, people have to shout instead of talk. I'm concerned that being exposed to this level of noise every day could cause permanent hearing damage to the restaurant staff. The restaurant is very popular. Food: 3.5-4/5 Atmosphere (when it's quiet): 5/5 Atmosphere (when it's noisy): 1/5 Service: 3.5-4/5 Bartenders: 5+/5 The bartenders are experienced, and it really shows. The turnover of the waitstaff is much too high, including shift managers. Overall: Even people who enjoy loud music come to Barcelona to eat and have a conversation. Nightclub-level volume does not serve the dining experience. Sitting outside is great.
