My two friends and I stopped by Tai Pan Dim Sum for breakfast on Friday, 6/5/26, at 9:30 a.m. We were warmly greeted by a friendly waitress who invited us to choose our own table. We settled into a round table facing the fish tank, which made for a pleasant dining atmosphere. After being seated, we were each given a menu and served hot tea while we looked over the dim sum selections. We were especially excited to see chicken feet on the menu and ordered that along with Pork Hash, Pan-Fried Mochi Chives with Shrimp, Taro Gok, and Baked BBQ Crunchy Pork Buns. The chicken feet, were flavorful and savory, with the gelatinous texture that makes this dish so enjoyable and our favorite. The Taro Gok had a delicate, lacy exterior with a light crunch that gave way to a warm and delicious filling. The Pan-Fried Mochi Chives arrived piping hot, pleasantly chewy, and packed with fresh chive flavor in every bite. The pork hash was richly balanced. The mix of ground pork that was set in the doughy wrapper was ever so flavorful with a slightly sweet and savory taste. The Baked BBQ Crunchy Pork Bun was also a favorite. Fresh from the oven, the bun was sweet, pillowy, and lightly crisp on the outside. Inside, the char siu filling was perfectly balanced, sweet, savory, rich, and deeply satisfying. Our meal at Tai Pan Dim Sum definitely satisfied our dim sum cravings, especially our craving for chicken feet. The food, service, and atmosphere made for an enjoyable breakfast, and we look forward to returning to try more of their dim sum selections.

Decided to try again- the popular item here are the fish balls on lettuce- its a homey Cantonese style dish- comfort food- was tasty - the dim sum was standard- the reason for lacking stars is because the taro puff was fried in old oil- so it tasted like it- other than that - the dim sum is solid- Plus they have Malaysian stramed cake with layers of good ess- the way its supposed to be made!

SERVICE: Friendly and fast. Our group of 5 showed up without reservation so we waited a bit for available table. Waitress quick to clean and set table for us; provided jasmine tea in porcelain pot for self-serve in tea cups, iced water (upon request) in plastic tumblers, and checked on us for refills or came by when we waved for attention. FOOD: Dim sum delivered in steamer baskets. Food flavorful as prepared, so did not try condiments (soy sauce, Chinese mustard, chili oil) provided on table. Good-sized portions. Shrimp dumpling ($5.95 for 3), pork hash ($5.95 for 3), egg tart ($5.95 for 3), pan fried turnip cake ($6.50 for 3), beef chow fun with gravy ($15.95) - very tasty Chiu chow style half-moon dumpling ($5.95 for 3), beef ball ($6.50 for 3), scallop look fun ($8.50) - okay Stir-fried rice noodle with pork and cabbage appeared to be popular dish at many tables. Baked buns in wall case. AMBIANCE: Tight seating with round tables, so no traditional push-cart dim sum. Instead, order from 84-item bilingual Chinese-English menu with color photographs + specials listed on board above kitchen window. Entertaining to watch chefs creating dishes with wok hei (breath of wok) in open kitchen window, as well as waitresses in constant motion serving patrons! Group-friendly, all ages, predominantly Cantonese-speaking patrons. No frills: Casual with paper napkins and wooden chopsticks; fork upon request. Request containers to pack leftovers. Request key from cashier to access bathroom outside in Chinese Cultural Plaza. No parking validation.

One of the things I like is that at lunch they have hot regular dim sum cooked. So turnover time is mitigated. Makes things easier and food tastes fresher. Service courteous. Why do they have to tear down a center which houses variety of Chinese food?

Came here specifically for the crispy mochi carrot since I was already in the area and had been curious to try it. The outside had a nice crisp shell, while the inside was filled with a soft, custard-like center. Super cute presentation, but flavor-wise it was a bit underwhelming for me -- the sweetness was very mild and didn't quite stand out. Fun to try once, but not something I'd go out of my way for again. The restaurant itself was extremely busy with weekend dim sum crowds, but ordering was surprisingly efficient. I walked up to the cashier area, placed my order, and was in and out within just a few minutes, which was impressive given how packed it was.

How do you dim sum... After meeting up a new restaurant in the Chinese Cultural Plaza which isn't free parking though having parking is very convenient for the area since it was Sunday street parking is free and I was very lucky to find a stall very close by and after our gathering Nadine C mentioned this restaurant as we passed right by it that it had an adorable item that was shaped like a carrot and as we walked in the fully packed restaurant right there is a covered shelves was several plates of dim sum and there's the carrot...mochi carrot to be exact and it was just too adorable to pass up on and as I got that and also another pastry that looked like Pineapple Bun both was filled with custard. The bun was nice and light not too sweet with custard that was more thick than the usual thin that I'm used to and the carrot mochi is best described like a Jian dui as the mochi was much more firn and inside had a large cavity with a bit of custard and yes it tasted like it's fried. The vibe of the restaurant was very busy but the staff was very nice and helpful as we just wanted to a couple of items to go which is nice and affordable and a great option to take home. Thank you!

Haven't ate dim sum in a long time so decide to swing by for lunch. It was pretty busy but the food came out fast. I enjoyed the noodles better than the dim sum. The service here really depends on the waitress. Some very rude, while others extremely nice! Rude ones threw our take out boxes at us and walk away mid ordering. Food was good edible but I would not return. Ambiance is nothing special, typical Chinese restaurant vibes.

Here for the first time with my brother and niece. We were near Chinatown and wanting dim sum. Mei Sum was closed shockingly (it's Wednesday)! Desserts and a big Manapua are in the case on the wall , self-serve style. Our dim sum came out fairly quickly and it was all good. Normally you must park in the Chinatown cultural center, but we were lucky and got the last space on River Street side. We especially enjoyed custard tart (Dan Tan), which was just the right creamy, custard consistency, not heavily cornstarches as many places serve it. The food came out quickly after we ordered, and if you don't order right away, you will have to wait for the server to come back, which could take a while. All happy with our meal and service and will come here again!

Food here is awesome. Not sure why others gave low stars . I like it here , Easy parking. Prices are pretty reasonable, good service top quality, clean restaurant too. Only thing bathroom you have to go out side of the restaurant.

I really really liked my visit to Tai Pan Dim Sum! Actually came to the Chinese Cultural Center to have breakfast at Fook Lam only to be disappointed by a sign that said they would be closed on Tuesdays starting 1/16/2024 which was the day we went....bummers but it actually was a good thing because I got to try a new place. My breakfast companion steered me to Tai Pan and I have nothing but accolades for this visit. I forgot to take pictures of the bean curd seafood wraps, the CharSui Look fun and the Turnip cake and Taro cake but they were all worthy of a try. I was told the owner of this Dim Sum House used to be co-owner of Fook Lam until they split and he started this restaurant. The dishes as very similar. The only difference is there are no carts which is okay because service is fast and there's not room anyway. Soooo if you're down for DimSum don't be hesitant to try this place, I did and I'm very happy I did. Parking in the center parking structure was $2. Stopped to watch the Tai Chi workout, those participants are tough, I'm wondering if I can donate and get the shirt?

Dàjiā hǎo Chinatown celebrated its first Hawai'i Buddha Peace Festival. The outcome wasn't what I had expected but it's a beginning of hopefully something better and beautiful for the community. Let's all keep an eye and ears for that to come ;) I chose Tai Pan Dim Sum for lunch today. They didn't have much selection as I came late in the afternoon and they were only open till 3:00 pm. I had stuffed eggplant, chicken feet, black bean spareribs and shrimp dumplings. The food is tasty. It's even better if you top it off with the chili paste. I was greeted by the first waitress and said she was coming back to take my order but she didn't. A second waitress said the same thing but was held up with another customer. I stopped the third waitress and was finally able to place my order. Chinese restaurant is know to be a fast moving pace but I think that service can improve. While waiting for my order, I was able to observe and realize that a little cleaning and tidying is much needed from the kitchen to the counter to the table and to the display case where food is normally displayed. It was empty so I didn't think of taking a photo. I should have. I'll leave it up to those near the restaurant to try or not to try. Xièxiè

My auntie took my wife and I to this restaurant many years ago. Today, there was a line for their dim sum. Six people waiting outside the front door. I did a jaunt around China Town and then came back. The line was gone, and I picked up two orders of streamed pork hash. Good taste and good service. Enjoy

Back recently after a long break away. Forgot how much I enjoy this place. I had stopped coming when my mother stopped asking for her favorite food: lo bat gao. Food consistently delicious. There are a few favorite items they no longer carry. There are still a couple of items I have to go elsewhere to enjoy. Still, what they do have is basically really good. I love their new seafood dumpling bursting with filling! The reason have elevated my star review is because of the excellent service. These ladies working here @ Taipan are so kind yet efficient and hard working. They took care of our party with every attention to detail, even clearing our plates and baskets as soon as they emptied. I also noticed that while other dim sum restaurants continue to raise their prices, Taipan lags behind them just a wee bit. In today's competitive market one has to stay competitive! Believe I will be back again soon. Taipan continues to be a favorite takeout place! And yesterday it was a welcome dine in spot for myself and friends!

Lunch in Honolulu, Hawaii…read more.. I asked my sister what she wanted to eat for her birthday: Dimsum! I suggested that we go to this new location of Kapiolani Seafood Restaurant. She agreed! The covered parking lot is free! Just follow the signs and park in the designated numbered stalls. Inside, it was crowded and noisy! I wrote our name on the list and got called quickly! My sister wrote our order on the menu: shrimp dumplings, seaweed roll, deep fried taro puffs, shrimp and chive dumplings, mochi rice, pork-filled deep fried mochi, and custard tarts. Later, we added on an order of house noodles... they were thin, crisp, and tasty! Everything was delicious and beautifully presented! Service was efficient! There were different people delivering baskets and plates to our table. They just crossed off menu items on the printed list as they arrived. My sister and her husband were really happy with this meal! I was, too! Note: i even took home the leftover noodles! Yay!

The new location is only about a block away, with a much nicer, newer interior. Unfortunately, the food seems to have changed much more than the address We ordered four dishes: mochi rice, pork buns, siu mai, and chicken feet. Almost everything arrived cooler than it should have. The chicken feet and siu mai were warm rather than hot, while the pork buns were closer to cold. More importantly, it wasn't just a temperature problem. The chicken feet in particular tasted noticeably worse than before, lacking the flavors and spices we remembered. The mochi rice was the most normal of the four, but even that felt fairly unremarkable There was a table next to us that came in excited to have dimsum. And watching their reaction, they came to the same conclusion as us -- food was cold, and flavors were off. We went on a weekday, so it's possible the kitchen was different that day, but the drop in quality was hard to ignore. The restaurant wasn't busy, service was good, and prices seemed unchanged from our previous visits. The new space is a clear improvement, but based on this meal, the food unfortunately went in the opposite direction. We likely won't be coming back

Better late than never, but come too late and missed out on the good stuff?…read more Honolulu Seafood Restaurant is a sister restaurant to Kapiolani Seafood Restaurant. Located in Downtown in the same space where Yong Sing, Mandalay, and the short-lived Bourbon Street used to be. Inside feels and looks essentially the same as the prior restaurants. Huge, open, two levels. Would you believe there was once a time where the second floor was an option to sit because it was just that busy? Hours is basically 10am everyday till 3pm, then 5-930pm. Seems like the hours are geared towards Downtown workers. Where to park? 8am-5pm, Monday-Friday, park in the Ali'i Place Parking garage. Entrance is right past the restaurant. Only 75 cents per half hour and restaurant validates one dollar. After 5pm on weekdays, and 8-1am on weekends, park at Bishop Square Parking. Entrance is across from the restaurant, entrance from the left lane of Alakea. Cost is $1.50 with validation. The regular menu is exactly the same as Kapiolani Seafood Restaurant. However, the dim sum is not the case. It's much, much less. There's only 16 total, and 7 more on weekends only. It's essentially the bare basics (but no beef ball!). All the dim sum looks exactly the same as Kapiolani Seafood Restaurant, but everything was on the bland side and just felt like it was missing something. Steamed Spareribs was one note and meat was not as tender. Beef Look Funn was good. The look funn had perfect thinness and texture. If have this dish, how come cannot have steamed beef balls? Chicken Feet was good. Soft, tasty, and meaty. But just ate and felt one note. Pan Fried Shrimp and Chives Dumplings was pretty good. Pan fried very well. Generous amount of filling. Just on the bland side. Chicken Sticky Rice in Lotus Leaf was pretty good! Soft, moist mochi rice with a good amount of tasty filling. The Bean Curd Roll with Pork was probably the most flavorful dim sum of the meal. Jam-packed with tasty and flavorful filling. Overall, the dim sum was decent and almost similar to Kapiolani Seafood, but it was a touch on the bland side and a slight step below. Service was good. Friendly and attentive. Food came out pretty quick. Inside was cool, spacious, and comfortable. I want to come back on my lunch break! I don't mind dim sum'ing solo! Hopefully there'll be more dim sum choices. I remember seeing on social media they had some unique items only at this location. But I guess I'm too late! **I heard some news, maybe rumors, but the Kapiolani Seafood location might be forced to move due to that and the next lot being torn down for..... you guessed it, more condos! It might have an effect on the Honolulu location. We'll see.

There were a lot of homeless people on the streets in this part of town, but not too scary to walk during the day. We also parked on the street a few blocks away. There was the steamed tendon in curry sauce dish, which was okay for me -- but be warned that it has very strong curry taste! Some four decades later, I still love their baked manapuas, call it a childhood love and remembrance :) If you don't eat pork, no worries, they have a delicious curry chicken filling. If you're vegetarian, no worries either, they have an incredible sweet potato filling, among other options. Conveniently stamped on the bun and printed on the box so you know what is what. Another childhood favorite from Royal Kitchen is their rice cakes, bittermelon stirfry, and sweet and sour pigs feet. Don't forget, they have tasty jai at Chinese New Year and gau! For countless potlucks, this is the easiest to pre order Chinese Chicken Salad and chow fun by the tray. Lately, my go to pre order has been the Royal Kitchen fried rice and beef broccoli. Thank you for great food, great service, and a truly royal experience! Here's to many more years!

Big fan of this place. I drove over here just to get there fresh, warm manapuas! They were exactly…read morehow I remembered: soft, hot, delicately sweet, and well filled. I especially want to praise the light fluffiness of the bun, it really made well for whole snack. This place is a sure winner for authentic manapuas and dim sum snacks. My party also got a couple of pork hashes and those were just as good as their manapuas. They were real hardy, filling, and went especially well with their punchy sauce that came with it. Real strong, vivid flavor! Service was also very quick and easy: I was in and out of the place in less than 5 minutes. The only let down was that they were out of their rice cakes, which is one of my favorites from this place. Another thing I will say is that parking can be difficult to get at times, given that the area is a huge, popular Chinese food hub. You may have to look around for a couple minutes before securing a nearby parking spot. Aside from that, this place has all my praise!

Living on Maui, one of my favorite noodle dishes is chow fun…read more The child phone beef dish here made Maui chow look like dog poop. My girlfriend ordered the Singapore bitter melon doodle dish, and it was crazy fantastic. The melon was bitter...It was an odd flavor... But new to my pallete. Once I added hoisin sauce, it took it to the next level. I don't think I could go here every week, because the flavors would probably blend together... But once a month, 100% I am hitting this place. If you're in the area, you need to make it a point to come here. Service was on point.

FIRST time customer - Growing up only 2 blocks away from this location 70 years ago I vividly…read morerecall walking with my POPO and mother headed into Chinatown to spend the morning shopping at the open MARKET and after to have LUNCH at either Char Hun Sut and or Tin Tin - Our favorite order was soup'n noodles , a steaming HOT bowl of "Won Ton Mein" and or "Wor Won Ton Mein" - Mmmmm - After the KAPOLEI Chinese restaurant in KAPOLEI "closed" so abruptly and PERMANENTLY I was shocked and extremely UPSET since very few "old school" Chinese restaurants here on Oahu still cook the type of dishes that my CANTONESE pallet craves and savors - Still reeling from this loss and desperate to satisfy my hunger for just a DELICIOUS bowl of "Won Ton Mein" - So desperate for this specific cuisine I went on line searching "YELP" to search for a recommendation and came across this restaurant "Lam's Kitchen" - I drove from my home in EWA Beach (West Loch Fairways Townhomes) into Chinatown in the old RIVER STREET neighborhood hoping that this restaurant would have something that would satisfy my desperate craving for a great bowl of "Won Ton Mein". I arrived at noon and was very lucky to find a metered parking spot across from the restaurant on the very first try - As I entered I noticed that the room was very crowded and that here was only ONE open table so I sat down immediately and ordered the "Won Ton Mein" as the waitress approached me with a menu - I have to note that although this restaurant was located inside of a very old building the interior was a very sharp contrast - Everything appeared fresh and modern with very basic hand built picnic type bench seating and dining tables constructed of varnished raw wood (very spartan but practical and comfortable) - The bowl of soup was of average size and appeared very sparse with not much color - There was "NO" Pork Char Sui slices, only steaming hot clear chicken broth, a clump of thin Vermicelli white opaque noodles accompanied with a few small pieces of both chopped Mustard, Napa Cabbages and slivers of Green Onions - Extremely simple and basic. There were exactly "4" individual Won Ton that were filled with a tiny chunk of SHRIMP mixed into minced PORK HASH and regular spices (basic Soy sauce and Sesame Oil) - The "won ton PI" was very thin and light and the saimin noodles were made of the same Rice Flour mixture also - The broth was hot and savory but nothing special only because it was so "bland" to the taste. Although the restaurant was crowded to its Maximum Capacity within 15 minutes of my arrival it had practically "emptied itself out" with only myself a one other table of 6-dinners getting their food too. I will probably return to eat at this restaurant if and when I get another pressing urge to satisfy one of my insatiable cravings to drive all across Oahu from EWA Beach to Chinatown in the city of Honolulu . The "PLUS" about this visit is that it was clean and the service was average but not disappointingly "long" despite how busy and crowded the entire restaurant was when I first arrived
