This place is so well located right in Merrick Road in Massapequa, New York. It has parking that's shared with it's sister resturante Tai Show Hibachi. It gets packed here and is sometimes hard to find a spot. This use to be my go to sushi place until other place opened up close by like KASHI in Bellmore, New York on Merrick Road. This is still the go to location but only after ten as it's open late and Kashi closes at ten. The staff here are by far the most friendly people I have ever met in my life. They always remember you and seat you where you will be happy. They even have an awesome fish tank you can sit next too with beautiful fish in it. They have a sushi bar you can sit at to watch your sushi get made too. Even rooms that are private that seat four to eat authentically. But the interior needs some remodeling to get on scope with the other sushi places in the area popping up. Also the menu needs to be redone to compete with all the cool menu options at other places. But for the price this place can't be beat. I'll always keep this as sushi home base but I'm definitely venturing to a lot more places. read more

Not sure what happened to this once great South shore staple. Curiosity killed the cat, but complacency killed tai show. Long time sushi legends like John have been replaced by Juan, the sushi chefs only speak to each other in Spanish, the native tongue of Japan? The days of a hot towel and a smile have been replaced by a negative attitude and a scowl. Hot sake was watered down to the taste of luke warm bath water, and was immediately poured into a dirty glass. Water? By request only.. Standard offering of seaweed and cucumber salads to start the meal, probably the highlight of the dinning experience. Crispy salmon skin was ice cold, and tasted like a 50 year old Russian Prostitute, having gone a week without a shower. Sushi course... rice was very under seasoned, and over cooked to the point of almost paste. Salmon avocado, was not horrible! Salmon was fresh avocado was soft, only the rice disappointed. Eel avocado was drowned in eel sauce to mask the fact that there was no eel in the roll. Spicy tuna was, well, so bad I wish not to discus it. The manager pranced around the empty restaurant looking like flava flav circa 1995! Besides the fact that they are open late they have alot of other things going for them. For starters I have to mention the great staff that works here. They are some of the nicest people I've ever met and somehow still chipper late at night. Also, they have a great atmosphere. The chi in here is really on point. You can choose several different spots to sit and dine. Either at the bar, a table or in a special both with sliding doors if your wanting some more privacy. And of course we have the most important part, the food. Not only do they have sushi but an extensive menu of fish, meat and even habachi (you have to ask for the habachi menu, they don't just give it to you). Throw in some sake and you'll be having a fantastic late night. So next time you get a midnight sushi itch come give it a scratch at Thai Show. A friend took me for dinner at this little place 20 min away from my hotel and to my suprise it was one of the best Sushi places that I have been to in a very long time anywhere in the USA. Sushi and Roll options by the dozens. I could not belive how taste and full of fresh fish that this place had. The watress offered to pick for us and that would have been cool and like to be suprised but my friend does not eat any shell fish. So we ordered rolls called the Ken .l, the JR, and 2 others. I having been coming to this place for years with my family and I love it! My most recent experience was with their Lunch specials. I decided to take two of my friends who were visiting from Ireland here and we had such a wonderful time. They especially loved the sliding doors on the booths. Such a cool authentic touch! We all decided to go for the lunch special Bento Boxes, and at $14 a box it is a really great deal. I picked box B which had a choice of shrimp, chicken, beef or salmon teriyaki, choice of 2 apps, a California roll, rice and miso soup. I got the salmon teriyaki along with shumai and gyoza. All of the food was really tasty. Also, be warned it is a lot of food! We all had trouble finishing. Luckily we had my boyfriend there who came to the rescue and was able to help us finish all our food! The service is great too! Our waitress was lovely. Every single person I know that likes sushi enthusiastically recommends this place. Went in last week for my first taste of sushi, ever! Sat in a private booth with sliding Japanese style doors, which was cute and romantic, although a little inconvenient when we wanted our waitress's attention. The one thing I noticed that was mildly unpleasant was a slight layer of grime to the place... Fingerprints on the sliding doors to the booth, sticky table, and the faint odor of old soy sauce. It automatically detracted from the high-end experience I'd come in looking for. My husband ordered tempura pork skewers and miso soup for us to share as appetizers, along with a Singha for him and a plum wine for me. The pork was a little chewy, but the soup was garlicky and delicious. For the main course, we shared the Alaskan Maki and an Angela Roll, and my husband had an order of shrimp tempura all to himself. First things first: Everything seemed fresh and was pretty tasty. Who knew eel tasted like ham, or that tobiko snapped like Pop Rocks?! We rounded out the evening with EPIC fried green tea ice cream (easily the best part of the meal). The whole shebang came out to about $65 before tip, which was actually less than we'd anticipated spending. Overall, an enjoyable first sushi experience... or so it seemed. Within hours of returning home, I was clutching at my stomach in intense spasms of pain that lasted ALL NIGHT and into the mid morning. Literally, no sleep. I couldn't shake the taste/smell of that initial whiff of old soy sauce that had lingered in the background throughout the meal... even thinking about it now makes my stomach clench. I don't know if I just had a single bad experience, since I personally know so many people who regularly eat here and rave about it... It's Japanese - but it's not. It is actually run by a Chinese guy but the food is excellent. The place is always packed and the tables are in a little too tightly, but it is worth rubbing elbows with your neighbor to get the yummy stuff they have here. The sushi bar is on the small side and there are a few tatami rooms - but being in the neighborhood it is, the locals seem to think it is a place to take the kids so it almost impossible to get those rooms - they are always loaded with kids and families. Teeny bathrooms match the teeny tables and small scale everything else except the size of the rolls. The prices are average and parking seems to be better than the seating inside. read more

We went to Tai Show Sushi on Friday night 3/2/18 with 2 other couples. I've been to this sushi restaurant a few times but this is my first review, however, every experience has been amazing and each deserved 5 stars. I'm glad we were able to get a 7pm reservation because this place was packed when we got there and there was a steady wait for a table for a while. As usual, the waitresses were all super nice and friendly and continued to bring us drinks and sake throughout our meal. The pickled cucumbers that they put on the table are out of this world! I would've been happy just picking on those and doing shots of sake all night. On my continued quest to find soup dumpling on Long Island, I asked if they made them and the waitress said they do, so I ordered it as an appetizer. Unfortunately, what came out was a steamed dumpling. It was delicious but not what I'm looking for. For sushi each couple ordered 3 rolls and they all came out on a big boat and they put it right in the middle and everybody was able to try all of the different rolls. It was nice because I tried about 6 different rolls that I wouldn't normally order and found out that I liked certain things that I was hesitant to try. Tai Show has been in Massapequa forever and will hopefully remain here forever. The quality of the fish is good. I had no complaints regarding any of the sashimi or rolls. One thing which appeared odd was that all of the fish was already cut. I soon realized the reason for this is that the sushi chef is continuously prepping. This guy never took a break. He was constantly sharpening knives, making saucing, or doing some other prep-work. I bet the sushi bar is able to handle rushes with absolutely no problem. The service is very attentive too. The staff seemed concerned with making sure the customers had a great experience. The combo dinner for two was well worth the price. The calamari was a little chewy. The filet mignon & shrimp was excellent. Shrimp were a nice size and the filet mignon was very tender. The Rock & Roll suchi roll with eel, avocado and Caviar was a generous portion. The dinner comes with soup, salad and vegetables. The Hibachi rice is extra but worth it. Make sure you let them know if you are celebrating a birthday. They bring out a fruit platter with candles, sing Happy Birthday and take your photo. Ok, this place is excellent for fresh food, but as I said a few years ago it just doesn't hit the mark in my opinion. Again, food is so fresh and it is not going to disappoint you, but I am not impressed with the other facets of their menu. I feel a bit bad doing this but also need to drop them a star. Nothing has changed, and I think that is a disappointment. In particular, I asked for a Sake menu and they just don't have one! They have Hot Sake, and three different cold ones. Thats it! Its difficult to find sushi this good elsewhere. It's so unbelievably fresh, and I have not found one thing that I don't love here. I usually order the same every time: tuna tataki, Wayne roll, Valerie roll, and red bean fried ice cream. All of it- AMAZING! I've lately been trying to branch out with other various rolls, including the million dollar roll, which is also just great. The service is okay. Every once in a while our server will be rushed, but most of the time it's just fine. This is hands down the best sushi place in the area. Nothing compares in terms of freshness and quality.
