My favorite sushi restaurant anywhere! I have been eating here for years and it never disappoints. I moved out of the area and recently returned for a visit and was so excited that the quality of their food is still the same. Fish is always super fresh with lots of interesting specialty rolls to choose from. Their ginger dressing is second to none. The staff is very friendly and accommodating with excellent suggestions. The tatami rooms with the sliding doors makes for a great private space. Highly recommend! read more

As you can see Im a legit food critic. I've been to hundreds of sushi places all over the United States and I must say this is one of the best on Long Island. Great ambiance with the closed booths where you sit on the floor and take your shoes off and they close you in so you can binge eat in private. Last night my sushi came in a boat I really appreciated that. The fried banana dessert is phenomenal I highly Recommend it. The owner is very friendly and generous. He gave us multiple free refills of saki and soda. Overall tai show is quite the pleasant experience and I highly recommend it they will not disappoint! Oh and their open till 1am!! This place is such an awesome experience. You basically have a private table with sliding doors. You sit on a little cushion. It's wicked cute. The sushi and bento boxes are good. There is parking. The hibachi place is next door. It's right on the main road. Great place to stop for lunch and drinks. read more

I started going to Tai Show 6 years ago. At first it was one of the best sushi places I had ever been to. I love the private booths. Any excuse for me to sit barefoot and indianstyle lol. In recent years, though, there has been a decrease in quality. The service is still great don't get me wrong. but the food is not what it used to be. The avocado in my California roll wasn't a fresh green, firm piece of avocado but rather a tiny chuck of slowly turning brown avocado (yummmmmmmmmmmyyy!). Suffice to say I do not think I will be returning there anytime soon. read more

I genuinely really enjoyed this place. The sushi was good and the portions were rather large. The private booth with the sliding door was a nice experience that I've never had before. Sushi places have sprouted across Long Island quicker than weeds, many sharing an almost identical menu, a 3 foot sushi reach in fridge with the standard selection of salmon, cooked shrimp, tuna, and tilapia( which many places use as a substitute in sashimi for bass and snapper and even yellowtail). As a proprietor, one can follow the herd or stand above the crowd. Tai show chose the latter. The sushi bar seats around twelve, with the entire length of the bar adorned by refrigerated display glass stocked with glistening, freshly Vibrant portions of fish meat and shellfish. Care not for the bar? Try the cozy tables enclose behind sliding Japanese-esque doors. I sampled three items off the menu; tuna tataki, an oyster roll that was on special, miso soup, and sea urchin/uni sashimi. A fair litmus test for a reputable sushi joint. The seafood here is quality! Tuna, which the chef mentioned was bigeye tuna, had a clean finish, nice seed crust. All was smooth cruising but Now upon requesting Uni I was awaiting disappointment, as any time I order uni anywhere else I am informed that it is On the menu but not offered. Uh uh... Not in tAi show. If you're into this jewel of the sea, sashimi portion runs you $10 for about 2 oz. but holy $@?!, the sacs of roe were the size of my thumb and were unlike any I've had on the island, sure decadence. The chef mentioned that a few italian guys came in once and ordered it, recalling how it tasted just like the ones they would buy in Sicily and spread on bread as a snack. I am not a person who awards 5 stars lightly. Tai Show has consistently been in my opinion the best sushi/japanese restaurant in New York. I've been to the so called high end or boutique Japanese place in Manhattan and none of them can match Tai Show's sushi in freshness and presentation. You can simply not to any better in that regard. Are there more updated restaurants around? Sure, but in my opinion this is so much less important than food quality and service. In that regard you simply cannot do any better than Tai Show. Must haves - King Salmon, Spanish Mackerel when available. Any of the special rolls are amazing depending on your likes or dislikes. Dont leave without having a Saki Bomb. read more

This is my like 5th time on this place and I have never been disappointed, really good food.

I'm not well versed in sushi yet, but this is some of the freshest, tastiest I've ever had. Not only that, but there was something on the menu for every one of my non-sushi eating famiy members(wusses). The staff was incredibly helpful and patient with us as we displayed our lack of knowledge of Japanese cuisine. Oh, and If you can, get a booth. Each booth is self contained and you need to take your shoes off before entering. It makes it feel more "authentic" and also helps to cut off noise from other tables. I've had a ton of sushi in my day and this place has the BEST sushi. The second time I ate there I went with my girlfriend and we split an appetizer (spicy tuna salad) and six rolls between the two of us. Tuna salad was great. All it is is a pile of raw spicy tuna with fish eggs under cabbage (or something similar), but it tasted awesome. Out of the six rolls we got, Tai Show Roll was the best (probably the best piece of sushi I've ever eaten). Dont' remember what's in it, but I think it was avocado, tempura flakes, cucumber, crab, with spicy chipolte mayo. The only downside of the six rolls was that with the mango roll..half of it was great and the other half had overly sour mango. Out of the two dozen or so sushi places I've been to, this is the best. read more

This is actually some of the best sushi I have had on this island of long. The nigiri pieces were generous and fresh, we had some great toro, and an excellent yellowtail and scallion roll. The miso soup was good as well, and we had a shumai special that included a wasabi dumpling stuffed with shrimp and pork that was no joke. Beef Tataki. Perfectly prepared and presented. Unrivaled. Riverdance Roll - Emerald and exquisite. Michael Flatley eat your heart out. But have this roll first. Toro - to die for. Ten years later and this is still my go-to sushi stop on the South Shore. Service is friendly and efficient. Reservations are helpful if you don't want to wait. My preferred seating is at a table across from the sushi bar, but I've had many a delightful dinner at the bar. Meeting the boss' wife for a clandestine dinner? Reserve one of the private rooms and your reputations will remain intact. To be fair, I did hold back a star for the miniscule bathrooms. But you could always hold out and hop over to Starbucks across the street if you want a more spacious john. read more

I was introduced to this place a couple of years ago by a friend who lived near the area. We used to go in every now and then for some rolls and food at night. The decor and layout is very nice. Tables in the middle section while there are some traditional sit down booths that surround part of the dining area. Staff is very courteous and friendly. They constantly check in to make sure all is well and are attentive. I like the fact that they see open late on week nights (till 1am) as it does work better with scheduling on my end. At one point I became one of their super regulars coming in to eat quite often. The menu has a good mix of Japanese and some Chinese dishes. If you like dim sum, they do have har gow which is the steamed shrimp dumplings. Personal favorite dishes are the teriyaki combos and certain rolls. I kept ordering so much food for myself they wondered why I was always so hungry. I just told them I like to eat. Dessert options included tempura (fried) ice cream and mochi ice cream. Proper shootout to the owner which is a venerable man, the night lady who had a beer toast with me one time (apologies I forgot your name) and at night Bryan and Mark who all work very diligently. Although it has been quite some time since I have dined at this particular establishment I definitely recommend Tai Show to anyone who likes sushi and good Asian cuisine. read more

I usually wait for the food to come out to write my review but I'm just plain angry after this visit. Not bad sushi, not bad at all but I don't personally care for the place. A group of about 8 of my friends and myself were basically forced to leave the one time we went. We were in NO way being rowdy and we were almost the only ones there.... The reason we got to that point was because a friend visiting from Cali wanted to go somewhere and do sake bombs and get good sushi. Some of my friends have been here and said the sushi is good and it's nice and local. I must stress again that we were not being rowdy and we were ordering more than a fair share of sushi. We are a calm group just looking to have some fun. Well, the wait staff claimed that it was not a bar and was very rude to us upon ordering a second round of sake bombs. I would understand the claim if we were loud or out of control but we were not close to either. I would think a place that at the time was quite and had no business would enjoy any business especially with the prices we were paying for drinks and the amount of food we ordered. This was the one and only time I have visited because of how rude and unwarranted the claims against us were. This place is awesome. Really I'm just saying this because they have secret booth/dining options where you can sit behind a closed Japanese paper screen door! It gives a very intimate feel to the meal. The meal itself was pretty good. Not like the BEST I've ever had, but worth giving 4-stars too. I got my usual tester rolls: spicy tuna and spider rolls. I approve of their spider roll, still not the way I like it with a light batter but crunchyly delicious. Spicy tuna roll was delicious...had some spicy to it...and I believe crunchies! Stopped in here tonight after hearing so many good things about it. While the food was delicious (I ordered the veggie sushi, miso soup and salad w/ ginger dressing), all three of us felt that the food was really over priced (dinner entrees were around $20/ each). The parking is a bit tight (so I recommend getting there early), and while the place was busy, it didn't feel too "crowded". My only complaint is that they have too many items on the menu that I want to try, and I have yet to do so. I haven't had anything but the Tai Show Sushi here, but so far, my experiences have been quite pleasant. The offerings are very generously priced, as you get 8 pieces per order and everything is below $15, if I'm not mistaken. You can ask for little variations and they'll comply; I once asked for tempura flakes over my sushi and was extremely happy when I saw that they had not skimped out like other places have done so previously. Great service - probably the best service on Long island - Anywhere. Always packed. That translates into big turnover,hence,fresh fish! Love the Sushi! I'm here at least once a week. I love Tai Show and would totally recommend it! Their food is always fresh and delicious. They're very accommodating if you have any special requests. I don't eat fish so I can only speak for the vegetable rolls. However, my boyfriend always gets the sashimi and loves it. Also, I love their booths with the sliding doors! Dine or Ditch? Dine... I'm bringing my chopsticks and I'll meet you there! This is a pretty regular spot for me. My friend turned me on to the sashimi appetizer that comes in half an avocado with ponzu sauce and it's been my thing ever since. Honestly, it's all you need and it's $10. I've gotten other rolls and they've all been pretty good, but I've yet to find anything better than this app and I just get it as my meal along with a soup or seaweed salad. They also bring this cucumber snack before the meal which is awesome. I always look forward to that. And finally, the mints they give you after are delicious. I know it's a silly thing, but honestly, it's good enough in comparison to literally EVERYWHERE else that I'm noting it... so yeah, it's crazy, but it's true.
