    Mango Sticky Rice
    Ari M.

It's been unseasonably cool lately, which tends to put me in the mood for something warm and a little spicy: thus, Thai! I was visiting my friend in Napa and this restaurant had the dual benefit of being close to her place and near Whole Foods and Trader Joe's, so we could get dinner and grocery shop all in one go. We got there right at 5pm when they begin serving dinner and there were already people there picking up or making to-go orders which seemed like a good sign. I'll cut to the chase: this is a no-frills restaurant with decent food--nothing spectacular. To begin, we ordered thai teas and a papaya salad to split as a starter, which was fresh, crunchy, and had a nice amount of heat. I felt the portion of the curries was fair, but the curry itself was a bit thin. It wasn't the best Thai curry I have ever had, but also not the worst. We finished off with a mango sticky rice that had a deliciously ripe mango, though the rice itself, while a little dry, wasn't too sweet and overall the portion was generous and definitely enough to share. Now for some areas of improvement: our white tablecloth was stained despite, again, being the first pair to sit down for dinner service (the restaurant closes between 3:30pm-5pm if I recall correctly from a sign) and there were ants on the wall next to our table and subsequently on the table itself. I have eaten at much, much grungier restaurants so really the hygiene was not all that bad. However, despite there being only 3 tables in total, it seemed like the owner/employee was eager for us to leave? Before we had finished eating our curries he came over to ask about boxes and gave us the check before we could order dessert! This was a Thursday night, so I worry what the service is like when they're really full on a weekend. Would I eat here again? Idk. There are other Thai places in Napa I would want to try first. Everything was just fine.

Pineapple fried rice came with a cherry but not a single piece of pineapple.

Ordered pineapple fried rice and Tom kha gai for takeout . The pineapple fried rice had not a single piece of pineapple but had an array of other stuff but hardly any flavor. First time seeing a cherry in fried rice too. Tom Kha Gai was underwhelming, was hoping this was gonna be a simple hole in the wall with good food and it's just a hole a whole in a wall with no flavor. On to the next Thai place.

Very tasty stir fry and red curry with shrimp, full at lunch. Generous portions. Definitely definitely go back

Although I appreciate this place being one of the few options for Asian cuisine in the area, the food tasted so bland for my liking.

Stuffed Chicken Wings: aokay! Wish they had sticky rice to serve along side.

What a sweet little find. Located in a small strip mall on Trancas this unassuming spot is dishing out tasty Thai cookery all served with a welcoming smile. On a side note, this strip mall is surprisingly busy as at lunch time so parking can be a bit scarce, just be warned. Being new to Thai Kitchen I ordered a few different dishes to get a feel for the place. Please see below for the items I ordered along with some tasting notes. Thai Iced Tea: I loved on this tall glass of yum pretty hard, to the point of almost ordering a second one. Creamy and intensely flavored, this is a classic must have beverage. For some it might be too sweet, so order a glass of iced water so you may dilute to your liking. Stuffed Chicken Wings: really good. Making these is a laborious process of removing the meat and bones from the wing, all while not tearing the skin. The meat is mixed with glass noodles and other ingredients which are stuffed back into the wing, breaded and deep fried to perfection. My only wish is that they served sticky rice along side, Thai Kitchen doesn't offer sticky rice as an option. Thai BBQ Chicken: moist, juicy and flavorful. The dish came with a sweet and vinegary dipping sauce along with a steaming mound of fragrant rice. The sauce reminded me of Thai Original BBQ Restaurant in Las Vegas, so many delicious memories. Thai Kitchen does serve beer and wine so Im looking forward to having dinner there really soon. Sweet whites pair amazingly with spicy food, one of life's many little pleasures. Can't wait.

Crispy chicken fried rice - 10/10, chicken was juicy and super crispy, paired with two different sauces (1) some sort of creamy mayo aioli (2) sweet chili sauce; i personally preferred the sweet chili sauce. The rice itself was subtle, with a slight soy sauce flavor; definitely allowed the chicken to shine. Thai iced tea - 8/10, good thai tea. not too sweet, stronger on the tea side. They remind me every time I order, but as a vegetarian, we've all had that fish smell delivered to us at a Thai restaurant at least once (probably twice, more likely three times) in our eating lifetimes. It is such a relief to not have to worry about that here. Would I Come Back? Yes, when I'm in town, I make it a point to come here. Did I mention they don't use fish sauce!? Parking is is incredibly easy so that's never an issue. It's a shared parking lot with many stores and other restaurants. I typically go on a Sunday for lunch, and even with a party of 5, I haven't had to wait for a table. Seating capacity is probably 45-50 guests so if you're planning a large party, definitely best to call ahead and make a reservation. The Food: Roti & Yellow Curry ($14, Grade A+): Fried roti with a yellow curry dipping sauce. It's a super savory dish, and honestly, I should have had you at "fried." If you're wondering what roti is, think of it as a buttery, flaky, pan-fried flatbread. It's large enough appetizer to share with 3 people, but you're pushing your luck with 4. Pad Thai with Fried Tofu ($16, Grade A): I've had this dish 5 times now. To be completely transparent, it's the exact reason why I can't give Pearl Thai a full 5-star rating, purely because of consistency. The first time I got it, it was perfect. The second and third times, it had no sauce and was dry. The fourth time, I asked them to make it saucy, and they obliged to an almost soupy level. For this fifth time, I just ordered it straight up and zipped my lip on any alterations. As they say, the fifth time was a charm! When it's made with the perfect amount of sauce, this dish is excellent. The noodles have that exact texture you look for in a pad thai, and the egg gets that great scorch from the wok for an added layer of flavor. Also, the tofu has been incredibly fresh every single time. It never tastes slightly spoiled, which happens a lot in smaller towns that don't heavily support plant-based diets where tofu just sits in a fridge eagerly awaiting someone to order it. Mixed Vegetables ($14, Grade A): Sautéed wood ear mushrooms and mixed vegetables in a garlic soy sauce. If you've ever had Pad Pak, you already know this flavor profile. I really enjoyed it, but next time I'll ask for no carrots and maybe half the garlic. Overall, it's a perfect dish that absolutely requires steamed rice to soak up all that great flavor. Sweet Sticky Rice with Mango ($8, Grade A): The classic dessert we see at all Thai restaurants, but they serve it with purple sticky rice, making it a visually yummy dish. It's plenty of food to share between two people. Bottom Line: The service here is great and very friendly. It's a small, local shop with "Best in Town" awards highlighted on the walls. The environment is clean, and the food is served hot and arrives at the table quick. One Last Word: Don't leave here without ordering the roti with yellow curry for an appetizer. Pure savory goodness!
