I would give this place 5 stars if not for the awkward, pushy, up your butt service. I have been here 3 times and each time the staff literally asks for your order the minute you sit down,. When you ask for a few minutes to look over the menu, a different server comes to ask for your order. They also check on you during your meal too often in an annoying way. Not your run of the mill "cheap sushi" place. The "cheap sushi places" in NJ are a dime a dozen, and the funny thing is they aren't cheap either, but the sushi sure tastes like it. Taka is a well decorated place and the rolls are exceptional! I had the taka jumbo and fancy roll, and hubby had the sushi and sashimi roll. The "California roll" in Hubby's combo was good! We been coming here for the past year and a half. The sushi is always (with the exception of Saturdays and Sundays) fresh and quick to come. From the specials rolls, you can't go wrong with the Taka jumbo, the Phoenix and the Fancy roll. The sashimi is delightful and fresh as are the hand rolls. Be mindful in the check as they tend to sneak extra charges for extra avocado, and such. Service is great depending on the day and the waitress. Chloe usually takes good care of us and is very sweet and fast. But sometimes there are others that are not every friendly and would just take your order and leave. Overall Taka in summit is going to be sorely missed as we now move to Montclair. But we will be back for some great sushi as good food always do. read more

Taka Sushi is an excellent restaurant! The dishes are exquisite and the atmosphere is mellow. I ordered the 12 piece Sachimi and my cousin had Sushi. With our entrees came a bowl of Miso soup. Everything was perfectly fresh. My Sachimi was sssooo delish that I dream of returning to the Taka Sushi Restaurant again when I'm in Jersey. At this time it is BYOB so we brought a small 6 pack of Corona. Our waitress offered to cut the lime and she left the bottle opener with us at the table. Being that it's sushi in Summit, I guess my expectations shouldn't be that high... Nevertheless Taka Sushi is a cute restaurant that tries to be as authentic as possible with the atmosphere, decor, and open sushi bar in the back of the restaurant. I believe it's BYOB so +1 for that. We ordered 3 different rolls - California, spicy salmon, and spicy scallop. They were all good and freshly prepared - no real complaints there. My sister ordered the tempura udon. It was weird cause they served it separately. The udon itself lacked some flavoring in my opinion - didn't think it was salty enough. The tempura was quite good! I got the pork katsu lunch box. The katsu was alright...a bit dry. But the box is definitely a good deal! We've also gotten catering from Taka and they were super accommodating and let you pick kind of any combination of sashimi and sushi and put it on a nice large plate all pretty. So if you're hosting a party and want lots of sushi, this is a great place to order from. Overall if you're really craving some sushi and don't feel like leaving the comforts of Summit, then Taka Sushi is a safe bet for a good Japanese meal. read more

Despite what everyone else says, I think the prices are somewhat decent. Even more so since it's BYOB. My gf and I went last night. Service was really good and the sushi was ok. I have yet to experience a WOW sushi experience. I am by no means a sushi expert but I would definitely go back to this place. Cool ambiance, quick service and reasonable prices. This is my go-to sushi place in Summit. Overall the fish and rolls are fresh and good. This is a frequent stop for my family of four, and I can largely thank this place for getting my kids to eat (devourer) sushi. The atmosphere and service is OK. Complaints (and I'm reaching) (1) there is always a slight odor and (2) they don't serve milk at all. I've been here twice now since moving to the area. Their sushi is excellent, their hot food is so-so. I thought the service was good, not great but my table was always taken care of. I came with my parents and we all got bento boxes with sushi to share for an appetizer. I regret not ordering more sushi instead of the bento. I chose the negimaki as my entree and the pieces were a little too large to eat comfortably in one bite. The regular japanese style food is run of the mill, just what you would expect, and not terribly special. Every piece of sushi i tried however was heaven! I wish they had a lunch special option for 3 rolls, currently they only have a 2 roll maki special. Terrific sushi rolls, gracious service, comfortable surroundings make for a very enjoyable night out in Summit. The Pink Lady roll is outstanding, but I always laugh when I order it due to the silly name. The Angel and Phoenix rolls are excellent, as well, as are the uni and the spicy scallop hand roll. The simpler rolls are also delicious, in particular the eel and salmon skin rolls. Instead of orange segments with the bill, they give diners delicious chewy Japanese fruit gum. I liked this place. The interior design is gorgeous and spacious. The staff is very friendly. I was very curious about a small wooden contraption that sat next to the soy sauces on our table and debating about it for 5 minutes too long with my bf. Our waitress comes, gives us warm towels to freshen up with; she took the wooden contraption and opened it for us to place our used towels on to take away. I'm so easily amused. I ordered the chicken katsu bento which was okay. I wished I ordered the Chirashi. Maybe next time. My boyfriend had a bunch of sushi which I don't recall the individual names of, but they were tasty. The place is moderately expensive but nice to bring a date or even hang out (as per the annoying group of school girls next to us). I would come back here for dinner. Probably my favorite sushi restaurant of all time. The entire menu is amazing. I am always trying to try out some new options. Service is nice and sometimes naggy but I'd rather have that than be left alone. I love sitting along the right side wall because it's just so quiet and almost romantic, even on a platonic dinner-date! The food is great, the dessert is adorable, and yes the gum at the end is a true treat. I order take-out a lot from here. One time I didn't have cash nor a check-book so the delivery man called and they charged my card, fewf! its good to be a regular there. Just be sure to ask them for chopsticks and extra soy sauce. There have been a few times that they have forgot but its not THAT big of a deal. There is a liquor store next door so grab some wine or beer before heading over. In town in Springfield for business, I had my usual sushi craving in a new area I haven't been to. After checking some reviews and their menu (see Spicy Garlic Tuna), I decided to stop in. Got there just after 6:30pm on a Monday evening and it wasn't very crowded, but by the time I left at 7:30pm they were pretty full. 3 chefs behind the sushi bar were working non stop. They had mounds of tuna, salmon, and yellowtail like I've rarely seen, and the turnover seemed quick. I started with the Tuna Tataki, which was nicely seared and in ponzu and tasty. The Tako Su had a slightly sweet flavor to the vinegar, but still good. The Spicy Garlic Tuna was quite spicy, almost to the point of not knowing I was eating raw tuna. It was warm due to the sauce, and would have been well complemented by a beer, but I wasn't aware the place was BYOB. The Yellowtail Jalapeno was very good. The spicy tuna roll (yea, don't hate, some of us non-japanese like it) seemed just a little off.. Not sure if it was the rice, which seemed a little 'mushy', but still ok. Service was quick and friendly. I was the only one at the sushi bar, and the chef asked me a few times how things were. Overall, not a bad meal. All that with a miso to finish, and my bill was just over 44$. Remember, BYOB if you want anything alcoholic here! read more

For the area...good sushi. It's the only place we order from because there is nothing better. Not to say it is great but it does the job when we are on a sushi kick. The rolls are very good. The specialty rolls and sushi is delish as well. I haven't tried any of their hot food because, well it's a sushi joint! We usually order 5-6 rolls as well as the sunomono. We usually do take out but when we do dine-in the staff is indifferent. Definitely not very friendly but not out right rude. Food is good. If you are in the area and need a sushi fix go to Taka. Just ate here on New Years Eve last night. I haven't eaten here several times before when I lived in Summit but this has been my first time back in years. Service was quick, efficient and friendly. The atmosphere is very nice and it makes me wonder why I waited so long to come back. For dinner my friend and I stuck to sushi and split an assortment of rolls. My friends and I went here on a chilly night and decided to get teriyaki because the menu says "Teriyaki Dishes Served with Teriyaki Sauce on a sizzling skillet" and the sizzling skillet sounded so warming. Out come our plates, and they are just that - plates. No skillet, no sizzle. Just lukewarm food. When we tried to ask the waitress, she seemed baffled. The salmon was just meh. Order: 1 dragon roll $10.95 included miso soup and salad, 1 soda $1.75, tea (free), 1 maki lunch sp (2 orders of salmon roll ) $10.50. Taste: Average. Bland. Salad was very small, I think it was only lettuce, hard to tell because a large amount of a yellow (tasty) dressing was dumped in the middle. Just about as much dressing as salad. Atmosphere: Typical Japanese or Chinese restaurant feel. When we walked in I noticed the framed awards on the wall. Expected more. Girl behind the counter sat and read magazine the entire time we were there. No goodbye when we left, either. Service: Fast and good. Plates taken as soon as we finished. Would I go here again?
