Came here as a group of three on Easter Sunday. We were the first ones to be in for lunch, and the hostess/owner thanked us for coming in on a slow day. She was friendly and very efficient, getting us water and menus right away. We ordered quickly, sharing the veggie tempura as an appetizer. This came out very fast, as did all our mains. The veggie tempura was fine, but nothing amazing, could have done without ordering this. My husband and mother in law enjoyed their dishes (the yakisoba and bibimbab), while I liked my hwe dup bap. The fish was very fresh, and prices were decent. The restaurant is a little cold inside due to heavy air conditioning, and ambience feels outdated, but it is clean and pleasant. Other than being in a sketchy part of town, the food, service and overall ambiance was both delicious and positive. I took my family to Takamatsu on Father's Day and everyone commented on how nice everything was. The inside of the restaurant is older, but is clean, and the savory odors coming from the kitchen were enough to make us even hungrier than we were prior to walking in the door. The waitstaff was spot on, being both friendly and attentive. That means a lot to any dining experience, in my opinion. The food was delicious! We all (party of four) ordered different menu items and were very pleased with how tasty each and every bite turned out to be. We will be returning to Takamatsu in the very near future. read more

A must try spot!! My fiancé and I came in tonight for dinner and some drinks. The staff is so friendly and helpful! We started with some hot sake and Kirin Light for sake bombers. We decided to try the Bul Go Ki and the Samgyupsal from the Korean Barbecue menu. They started us off with some Gamjaguk (a warm broth with potatoes) and brought out all the side dishes for the barbecue. They provided white rice pots, Sprouts, Oi Muchim (or Oi kimchi, I'm not sure which one!) Mu Saengchae, Gamja Jorim, Yangbaechi Kimchi, and I believe bamboo shoots. We had the kitchen cook our meats instead of cooking them at the table. They said it is done much faster and the best way so we agreed! The meats came out sizzling like a plate of fajitas, and smelled amazing! The Bul Go Ki was an absolute win, so much so that we ate even the smallest left over bits of it. The Samgyupsal was served with a peppered sauce that I have never had before and it was great! We will probably try another meat next time we visit, but this did not disappoint in the least! The man hosting seemed to be the owner, and was very kind. He cracked a few jokes at us and was walking around constantly checking on everyone. My friends and I are often on a quest to find true mom and pop restaurant or hole in the walls and this really did it for us! They have Korean bbq booths but also other seating where you can order from a menu or ask them to cook the kbbq for you in the back if you don't want to grill it yourself. It has a lot of the go to Japanese and Korean meals you would expect, as well as a lot of authentic meals (I had a Korean tripe soup). The family running the restaurant was super friendly and genuine people. If you like Asian food and want a mom and pop experience, I'd give this place a go! There's an expansive menu of authentic Korean foods. I had whole yellow tail that I didn't care for. I always order fish when I eat out, but wouldn't I order this again. It tasted to fishy for me and lacked other balancing flavors. I should have ordered the fish in chili sauce. We also had a hot pot with beef: seemed a bit heavy to me. I'm always looking for a balance of acid, fat, salt, and heat. I enjoyed the condiments with rice the most. They served kimchi, pickled sprouts, fish, potatoes, and a few more. Great food, great service. I was born and raised in Hawaii, and this restaurant reminds me of "home." The food here is as good if not better than the Korean/Japanese restaurants in Hawaii. Takamatsu is the definition of the perfect whole in the wall restaurant. My boyfriend and I are regulars here and actually came here for our first date. He had never tried K-BBQ and had introduced him to a better way of living. Korean BBQ has definitely become more popular and have seen modern KBBQ restaurants open up, but Takamatsu hospitality makes you feel very home like. Nothing will beat an experience here than one of the more modern places. Plus, they don't have lettuce wraps! The servers are quick and friendly without prowling over your grill cooking your food. Which I don't appreciate from those other restaurants. I can cook my own meat thank you! The bulgolgi meat is always very tender and savorous. You can also never go wrong with the Kalbi. We order two plates and with the side dishes my boyfriend and I are stuffed. I've visited other places where we've been charged almost $80-$90 for the same thing. The ambiance is dim lighting romantic setting but casual. I have yet to try their sushi which I know will be delicious as well. read more

Loved this place. Great service and was felt welcomed. Food is good, and the BBQ tables were clean. We had to wait for for a bbq table which was fine but we were seated in a regular table and our orders were taken in advance (which was a good step to get our food on time when we made it to the bbq table) servers made sure our food was good and drinks were filled. Loved the Kirin beer of rose and as for food we got the Kalbi, bul go ki, and the deaji bul go ki. All the fixings that came with the mains were delicious and we went ahead and ordered a sashimi dish as well which was heavenly. One thing I'd like to mention was the ventilation, I don't think it was on, or it was but wasn't fast enough, as we left with all clothes smelling like bbq, but in my opinion it was worth it and will definitely come back. read more

Went there for lunch on a weekend. On weekends, even though they open at 11:00 on Saturdays and 12:00 on Sundays, they don't use the lunch menu, just the dinner. My friend ordered the bulgogi dolsot bibim bop and I ordered the spicy pork dolsot bibim bop. It comes with quite an assortment of small accompanying dishes (photo'd), which were quite tasty. The server was a short, blunt woman. Efficient and professional. Not all that friendly. I did like my dish. Yes, it was a bit on the spicy side. Spicy hot but not too awfully much. I tasted my friend's beef. It was tasty as well, tasting similar to some of the stir fry dishes I prepare. Cook rib-eye traditional style at Takamatsu! My son and I popped in to grab a bite. I had heard that they served Korean food and wanted to try their banchan or side dishes. I was surprised to find a grilling table. Tip: Minimum of 2 orders of barbecue to grill the meat yourself. So we ordered two orders of bulgogi or thinly sliced rib-eye steak. ($16.75 per order) Banchan: Napa cabbage kimchi, cucumber kimchi, fishcake with jalapeno, thinly julienne pickled radish, radish kimchi, greens, seasoned potato. When you grill bulgogi, season the grill with the raw onion and the garlic. Then, I usually spread pieces of mean on top of the onion and garlic. I like cooking it on a little higher heat to get that nice char. You can eat the cooked meat wrapped with green lettuce. I suggest adding a bit of gochujang sauce, napa cabbage kimchi or kimchi of choice, a piece of grilled onion or garlic. You can also eat your grilled meat with rice and other kimchi. My son and I enjoyed our meal very much. Our servers were very friendly. They were quick in filling our water glasses, and they were hospitable when we asked for more banchan as we devoured the tasty side dishes. read more

Second time here. It's an ok place in terms of cleanliness and service to come when in a Korean food pinch. I got the seafood stone bibimbap this time and was pleased. It was flavorful and piping hot till the last bite. The only downfall is that the water tastes horrible here. Also, the banchan was pretty salty. I know it's pickled and all but some items were just a bit too much to the point where I didn't want to eat it at all. Overall solid 3.5 stars. Parking is great. Finally came back after a lackluster first impression, this time for KBBQ! Things to know before hand: - A minimum order of two plates of meat will allow you to use the grill - Your clothes will smell after dining here - Probably one of the only places I know that does KBBQ in the Phoenix area Decided to have a post-study dinner with a friend and what better way to nom away and replenish ourselves with good ole BBQ. We ended up ordering the pork belly and marinated rib eye or thinly sliced sirloin (bulgogi). It came with rice per person, side dishes (banchan), dipping sauces for the meats, onions, garlic, chili slices and even lettuce (sang chu). I was so happy to finally find a place that had KBBQ with all the appropriate accompaniments! Good amount of food for two people to share, though I felt their side dishes were a bit underwhelming. I usually look forward to the Kim chi, bean sprouts, sliced fish cake and potato dishes but feel like their sides aren't top notch. Nonetheless, the bulgogi was marinated well and super flavorful and delicious. The pork belly was thick and cooked well, albeit being frozen. For those unsure how to have KBBQ, there's no wrong way ... though I usually have two strategies: eat the cooked meat with your rice and a bit of sauce/side dish to cut through the savoriness or add your cooked meat to your lettuce leaf, add garlic, chili slice, kimchi then wrap it all up and dip it in the soybean/chili paste! Absolute yum! The service here is quick to clear things away and refills on waters. It's also a little drab on the interior and can smell musty at times, but the KBBQ totally makes up for it! For $15 or so a person, the price is alright ... it's no KBBQ like back in California where it's all-you-can-it, but it'll do for Arizona. It will do. read more

First time at Takamatsu. Came here on a recommendation. Arrived at 6 on a Tuesday for dinner. There were five other tables full. The menu is a mix of Japanese and Korean. The Japanese was the sushi while the Korean was the BBQ and entrées. I had sushi for lunch, so... Between the three of us we ordered Pork Bulgolgi, Beef Kalbi, Bipimbap and two teas. The total came to $63 plus tip, which was a good deal. There was plenty of food. The Bipimbap was okay. The meat was a bit sparse but it was tender and moist. The egg was over cooked too. The Bulgolgi and Kalbi were excellent. They each had tons of flavorful, juicy meat served on a sizzling platter and lots of sides like pickled kimchi, boiled and sauced potatoes, pickled sprouts, fish cakes, etc. The Kalbi in particular was so tender you'd never know they were mostly collagen. I recommend Takamatsu for a fast, inexpensive flavorful and authentic Korean dinner. Try the BBQ menu! read more

Charged us $33 for the Kalbi, which was significantly more than the price listed on the menu, and unfortunately we did not realize it until after the payment was made. I am not sure if this was an honest mistake or a change in price that has not yet been reflected on the menu, but either way I find it to be unacceptable and unprofessional. What we received was also not NEARLY worth what we paid for it. The food itself was hit-or-miss. Too much of the "meat" was essentially marinated connective tissue. A good amount of it ended up in my garbage can. I had been craving Korean food for a good long while, and I really wanted to give this place a chance, but I honestly can not recommend anyone else to suffer through an experience like this. read more
